History is an extension of God’s will. It’s our chance to learn. 2 episodes is all grown up Jolenta had, and managed to live rent free in my head ever since I watched it for the first time. I’ve always had my own thoughts but the the way she put so much of what I felt into words really got to me. With eloquent whispers she came and went. Deeply human and intelectually honest, one of my favorite characters of all time.

I know you guys have had hopes on Nowak changing sides but I don't think he would do it, even for his daughter. In my opinion, Nowak not realizing Jolenta is alive at that moment is the best choice, not only because Jolenta already said that would have been the worst, but Nowak would have captured and killed her I feel like. We already know his faith and belief takes precedent over everything, imagine him finding out that the daughter he thought was dead had actually dedicated 25 years of her life to "heresy" and is working torwards the theory to be know by many more, he would be pissed and killed her for it as a punishment.

She is one of my favourite female characters of all time. Every word she said had its weight in gold. I could listen to her talk any day, same with Makio Koudai from Ikoku Nikki, if you don't know that anime, I would highly recommend to watch it, its really good.

I really like how the show uses Draka to give us an insight on everyone's perspectives. Every conversation she had in this episode was really good. I love that she asks so many questions, it always leads to beautiful dialogues. I can't believe we'll be done with Orb next Friday 🥺 having said that though, I am VERY excited about the upcoming episodes. One of them rivals ep 3 and 14 for favorite episode of the show and I cannot wait to watch your reaction ❤️

I remember in the manga there’s a panel where Jolenta’s eyes widened before she dropped the torch. She definitely recognized Nowak but didn’t hesitate for a second.

I just want to say that Jolenta's episodes were the ones that inspired me the most....they way she thinks it makes me also think about life.... I do believe that despite the tragic stories for each character there's a meaning, each person is equally important for the future? Idk but it make me cry for a bit.

This rewatch made me love her even more! Adult Jolenta didn't get as much screentime as you'd want, but every second is at least worth its weight in gold. I also think the previous MCs were building blocks of a theme that culminates in everything Jolenta represents and talks about.

I can relate to anyone on the couch who felt frustrated by the missed encounter. The show is pretty brutal in that it'll never give you anything just for narrative satisfaction, and I love that, but it's still very frustrating lol. The way Carter framed it is a great change in perspective! If you love Jolenta, this was the best and most peaceful way her encounter could have gone. RIP.

I agree it's a better choice for the story to have him not truly reunite with her again, at least it carries more weight. But I REALLY disagree that Nowak would capture and kill Jolenta, even with the bombshell realization that she had become the thing he dedicated his life to snuffing out, both out of duty and spite. I think he had dedicated himself and adhered to the institution of the church and its doctrines so extremely BECAUSE preserving the status quo would guarantee that his beloved daughter would live in a stable world. Her well-being was always THE most important thing for him and everything else was a means to that end. I think this was illustrated in the scene where he initially reprimanded her for sacrilege, severely but entirely reflexively, and then his 'real' thoughts and feelings showed that nothing could ever be more important than comforting his distressed child, as he said and did.

Jolenta's death shows that for her it is not about her life, but her convictions, what she lived for. Novak, since the moment he met Rafal, has been confused on why heretics never disappear. It is for that exact reason. They do not wish to stay alive just to stay alive, they live for something greater that continues inspiring the next generations even through their own demise..

Jolenta's sacrifice was her way of taking full agency of her future. She'd spent her life being controlled, overlooked, tortured (or worse)... This story highlights that fighting for a cause sometimes requires a sacrifice. It's tragic, but also a beautiful demonstration of Jolenta's love for her cause; and the love of sparring herself and father from having a truly terrible reunion... could never end well, one of them must die.
