If we are gonna get into specifics, anything not written by Oda is technically "non-canon". The novels that are approved by Oda but are technically labeled as "soft-canon". Anyways I find the whole canon/non-canon debates pretty wack. If it has the official One Piece logo on it then it's a part of the universe to me (unless it's literally breaks the manga canon).

I honestly take these drops for granted sometimes, its insane that we are in post time skip now and there is still SOO much stuff left to be explained, introduced, and fully fleshed out, like even after 500+ episodes you guys still know literally nothing. The anime has a tons of problems, and as a diehard fan I'll be the first to admit this and I also agree with a lot of the criticisms. Nevertheless this series gives me so much joy and seeing you guys love it as well is such an awesome experience. It gets me so excited when Tuesdays and Thursdays roll around. I know this is overstated, but you guys should keep truly enjoying the moment.

Maybe I'm a minority in this opinion but I really don't think it matters what's "canon" and what's not. Already the anime experience is very different from the manga experience, I think it's fair to just consider fan letter as part of the overall anime experience for One Piece IMO.

I love the song that played around 9 mins in ep 523 called "Priestess Maya". The shots of sunlight dancing throughout the Sunny and on the crew while the song played were so amazing too. Top 5 One Piece songs for me. It's such a beautiful song, that I'm having a hard time describing my emotions. It has like this very calm, and reminiscent or nostalgic feeling with a subtlety of sadness to it. Similar to the emotions you feel after completing a long journey and taking a look back and remembering every moment, good and bad. We are also now leaving the "Old World" otherwise known as "Paradise" and entering the "New World". This of course has a double meaning. The Straw Hats are leaving their past selves behind; the weaker, naive and inexperienced versions of themselves. The versions that were also afflicted with suffering and trauma. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are completely new people but they have definitely changed. After being brutally beaten and faced with their own weaknesses, they had to become stronger, more cautious, and less reckless. So entering the New World is a fresh start in a way. They aren't just leaving their old selves behind, but also the world that they knew. This is why I think the placement of the song is so perfect. I recently learned of a Portuguese word that best describes this. The word is "saudade" and I understand theres no accurate translation so I apologize to any native speakers. What I found online was "Saudade may be felt towards people and things whose whereabouts are unknown, such as old ways and sayings; a lost lover who is sadly missed; a faraway place where one was raised; loved ones who have died; feelings and stimuli one used to have; and the faded, yet golden memories of youth." It's a complex and indescribably powerful feeling. And I think thats what the song with the scene of them going deeper into the sea means to me. Each beam of sunlight reflected on each Straw Hat represents saudade, its every memories, every experience, every smile, every loss, every mistake, every laugh, every tear etc that they've had in their "past life" that they will continue to carry on as they go towards the darkness and uncertainty of the New World.

My biggest issue with the remake is that it doesn't let a scene breathe at all. The cuts are too jarring. In an effort to change bad pacing, the remake has bad pacing for the opposite reason. This is One Piece, not Code Geass

Fan Letter is canon because it's in the novels. Just like how Ace has his own novel about how he was as a new pirate. Zoro will also have a novel about what happened before we first met him. They will also be animating another novel about the female characters

So I don’t mind him theorizing sometimes bc in some cases, he’s also like the boys and still have no idea to a mystery. There’s so many mysteries in this show, I think there’s no harm in him having a say. I think he knows by now when to not say too much or when to talk bc he is too genuinely curious. I wouldn’t want him to be completely silent all the time in these post discussions

If Jack implies things like not knowing something or not remembering a character he is giving away information. He is past episode 1000 and if he is theorising about things then he’s telling everyone they aren’t going to learn anything about that theory in the next 500 episodes. It ruins the experience, this isn’t his reaction so he should respect the mystery. I can’t speak to much to avoid spoilers but the fact is that Jack has more context than the others, giving opinions or thoughts indirectly spoils things. Like when he says he doesn’t remember a character, he’s telling everyone that they aren’t important. Please don’t encourage this behaviour as Jack has been notorious for spoiling shows and never seems to learn. Especially in a show as big as one piece I’m seeing more and more that he is having trouble remembering what they have seen and what they haven’t (Roger having the straw hat just in this batch). All it takes is one slip up and a lapse in memory and he could spoil something.

The amount of complaining about the pacing of this arc is insane, sure would one pace or the remastered version be a little better but I'm assuming as massive one piece fans we all watched this arc and kept watching well beyond this. Let them enjoy the arcs and make their own opinions, who knows maybe they won't hate the pacing as much as others. I liked this arc when I watched it OG and liked it still remastered on my last rewatch. I mean if One Piece the show has taught us anything it is to enjoy the journey and not be in a rush to get to the end.

This seems like it might be an unpopular opinion, but Fishman Island is one of my absolute favorite arcs. Yeah it has some pacing issues but so does the rest of the show yet it’s still my favorite show. FI is just an epic underwater pirate adventure, the only arc of its kind! Peak world building, storytelling etc. Just wanted to include a little hype bc I really hope you guys like it

I've heard that Mangaka originally is advised story plot or characters by editors. and always there are assistants to help them creating so no one make it by themselves. I always see this take and it never made sense to me. It just sounds like "ignore everything bad about half a chapter per episode, we are one piece, we love one piece" like u can love something to death and still criticize it. Judging by how the arcs they like the least had some of the worst pacing ever, their comments about "Edge Piece" and their dislike for the toei anime only joke bits like the buggy mess these last few arcs just shows that alot of their issues would be fixed by a version with better pacing and no toei filler. "Enjoy the journey" definetly but one pace was never about rushing through the story, its about going through it like oda intended so thats another thing that does not add up in my head. It straight up sounds like stockholm syndrome sometimes

Matt, I actually completely agree, I did watch that arc at like 6 episodes a time so the pacing never really felt bad to me but yeah at a two-episode pace we will definitely feel it more.

Constantly criticizing about what version they're watching isn't going to do anything but make them enjoy it less.
