netflix lighting 🤮🤮🤮

Kite

JoLen

This show was not needed and it doesn’t look good. That being said, I’m interested in 2 things: how it does things different (for better or for worse), and how they adapt things from the books that didn’t major in the movie. If we get the giant squid, Winky, Peeves, every quidditch game, etc., it’ll be interesting. That being said, I will be going Luffy method for this show

Toska Water

For me remakes should be created 20 years after the last movie was made.

E

agreed.

Rice

Def not needed but, I'm looking forward to seeing this

DietCocaine

no shit still has netflix lighting

Kite

not even 15 minutes and there's already racist comments

Kite

I think the og actors don't want to be involved because of all of the terrible things JK Rowling has said

Ceci

and what do you mean by that?

Ceci

lol remove yourself from here. we dont tolerate hateful comments.

Sean Carroll

What terrible things exactly?

Sage

There’s been like 3 spidermen since the first movie and no one complains

Sage

This is much needed. It’ll be a way better adaptation. By the end there will be the half that prefers the movies and the other half that prefers the show

Kite

if this guy isn't banned it would be really questionable

Ceci

I honestly don't have a problem with the show but I also think its because I'm not as attached or a big fan of harry potter even tho I've seen all the movies. I think its amazing that they're making this and I do hope that it comes out great. The poor kids are already getting hate because people can't let go of the original cast and so I'm wishing the best for the actors.

Camille Angelica TV

I watched the movies first and LOVED them. Then, I read the books and LOVED it even more. And for years, I've been listening to the audiobooks at least once a year (stephen fry version!), and now, I'm listening to the full cast versions. I also played hogwarts legacy. I'm probably one of the few that is open (slightly excited/anxious) to the series. At the end of the day, I just want more HP content and immerse myself to the magic, so I'll take what I can. I just hope they stay true to the books. Re: the teaser - I like it. Though it felt slightly darker/mature for the first book vs magical. Anyways, happy that the geks are giving this a try! Let's cross all our fingers and toes they do it justice.

Sage

Cry harder😂

Darrell Henry

If this is a hit HBO will do a proper game of thrones remake in a decade. There’s so much from the books they left out so that’s a silver lining.

Toska Water

I'm not complaining?? Carter just comment that 15 years still feels new to him and I just wanted to say that I think 20 years is a good time gap to make a remake.

Sage

That’s what I say about every remake whether it’s a movie or tv show. Why does it matter? Some people act like the fbi is gonna bust in their house and confiscate all their Harry Potter dvds and wipe it off the face of earth😂😂

Mitch

We 100% could use a remake. The movies cut out like 30-40% of the content from the books. Harry Potter definitely deserves a faithful adaptation that doesn’t skip anything and HBO is the best possible place to adapt it. That being said some of the casting are kinda baffling (snape being race swapped adds such a weird racial dynamic between him and James along with the rest of the marauders) Everything about snape is gonna have this racist undertone to it like harry being sussed and off put by him and he just so happens to be the only black professor in Hogwarts. Also casting John Lithgow as Dumbledore is so wild since he’s literally 80… HBO wants this to be a 10ish year series like idk what they were thinking with that choice.

Amdar

Hey Geks, I really like almost all of your content. I'm happy to be part of your community, even if I'm not a very vocal member. I understand that it's okay for content creators to stay out of politics and other sensitive topics in order to avoid dividing their community or sparking heated discussions among a wide range of viewers. However, if parts of your community start posting hateful comments like the ones I just saw in this comment section, I believe it is your responsibility to moderate them so that your community remains inclusive and a safe space. In short: In a world where hate seems to be growing everywhere, it is even more important to keep it out of safe spaces. Why am I writing this? Because I hope you will take action. Whether that means moderating those comments or making a statement against such views, it would show that your community is meant to stay inclusive. Otherwise, this might be the end of my journey with Geks’ Patreon. It is very important to me to have safe spaces to escape from reality. If I don't feel that here, I will look for it elsewhere. Thank you for taking the time to read my otherwise non-vocal opinion.

Sunny

This trailer looks really really good. I'm just nervous about how they are going to go with the show - like I want them to stick to the books, and the movies, and just go in depth with everything. I don't need and don't want them to add stuff that wasn't there before to make the show "more interesting" or something like that. Still don`t know how to feel about Snape suddenly being portrayed black - in this show, it is just unnecessary. Imagine Harry Potter being Indian, Ron has not his famous red hair and Hermoine has a buzz Cut.....these are not how the Books describe them so not Original.

Roxun

Didn't realize her number 1 fan was in here, replying to every comment that triggers them. You can believe in whatever you want, but nobody who disagrees with you is going to change their mind because you start spamming.

No Tap

Forget all the negative comments on both sides. Just like Hogwarts Legacy it will be a complete hit.

No Tap

I always thought if they were going to go the diversity route they should just make Ron’s family Indian. Would make a lot more sense given the families role in the series and the legacy of the British empire.

Trae Young Supremacist

excited for this. already in the trailer u can tell they are taking more inspo from the books than the films did and with a full season for each book they will be able to flesh it out. a lot of top executives and producers are involved and jk Rowling says she likes it so i have high hopes. also great the younger generation will have their own harry potter, this is as much for them as it is for us who grew up with the movies.

No Tap

10 years from now if Lithgow passes away they will just use AI to replace him.

No Tap

Never going to happen, a one to one retelling of ASOIAF can never be made in the current climate.

Darrell Henry

Yes it could. The book has less SA than the show. I’m not sure what else wouldn’t fly.

November2

I am so excited for the show

Caleb

React to dune pt 3 trailer aswell if use havent seen

No Tap

#NotMyNimbus2000

Golden Pants

I don't have a horse in this race in terms of the whole Snape being black thing, I think people are taking it way too seriously, but I hate when people try to force creators to do their bidding with petty ultimatums, so if this guy unsubscribes I'ma buy two more subscriptions to make up for it.

November2

New Harry Potter actor looks like Daniel Radcliffe’s son

Amdar

No — disagreement isn’t the issue. Disrespect is.

Justin ⟢

Maybe it's me, but the music and lighting didn't capture the 'magic' of HP at all personally. It's probably my overwhelming bias for the original movie series though. Looks great nonetheless.

Sam M

It's extremely disrespectful to try to manipulate and drag creators into the mud for whatever pet issue you’re upset about is

No Tap

GOT was produced in the mid-2000’s arguably towards the end of the cultural period where some of the aspects could be put to screen. And it cannot be denied that they show benefitted at the time by being written by chuds.

Danny Moore

I am just not feeling Hagrid from the trailer.

Amdar

I wasn’t threatening anything — I was explaining my personal boundaries as a supporter. Everyone decides for themselves what kind of community they want to be part of. And again, this isn’t about politics, it’s about keeping discussions respectful.

Mal

This was definitely wanted by many fans of the books who were dissatisfied by the cuts and changes the movies made

Darrell Henry

Game of Thrones aired between 2011-2019

Ceci

You can say whatever you want but you should be respectful about it. You’re going about it the wrong way.

Fujiie

I said i hope the boys react to this after watching it yesterday. So glad you guys did. Im so hyped for this. Christmas cant come any sooner 😭

Amdar

You keep reframing what I said into something I didn’t say. I’ve been consistent: disagreement is fine, disrespect isn’t.

𝕯𝖎𝖆𝖓𝖆 𖤐

@terror squad you are a terrible human being count ur days. You too @sean mf weirdo

Connor O'Hara

Commenting this before I've seen the trailer. I don't think this series is really necessary but if they're going to do it I hope there's big differences between the original movies and this. I'm hopeful that it looks good but I don't know a single thing about it. Will update after watching the trailer with the Geks. Edit: The series looks good but the sets don't really look better than the movies. It looks like they're trying to look the same as the movies. I hope the characters are represented well but this didn't inspire a lot of hope. It'll probably be decently made but I just don't see a reason to make this still. Hope I'm wrong.

Jack

We will take action, we were just made aware of the comment, so don’t worry! We don’t want that kind of stuff in our community

Justin ⟢

Yeah definitely a questionable choice on that casting. The connotations associated with his character will be unnecessarily inflated, especially the backstory with James. Just unfortunate and very avoidable.

keyla

I’m actually so excited to see it be more like the books the movies didn’t do the characters justice especially Ron

ShadowCat

👎👎👎👎

Angela

Sameee I watched the og movie trailer afterwards and it felt so much more whimsical and charming, and let’s not forget their iconic theme song! So nostalgic ✨

No Tap

James Potter shaking in his boots rn

Josh

3:43: "A New HBO Original Series". Looking forward to seeing how "original" it is. The sets looked good to me. I don't know much about the cast as a whole which is sometimes a good thing. Gives me the opportunity to discover new favorites. The first episode's not for another 9 months so it's too early to form any real opinion.

GonzoTheGreat

The great thing about a remake: Even if it sucks, the original still exists

C2-H5-OH

The first couple of books are magical and whimsical, like the first time entering the wonderland. The third book is the turning point, and then it gets progressively darker. The makers here have completely missed out on the whimsical. Broccoli haircut on Malfoy, Snape being black, and most important IMO is that Hagrid doesn't remotely feel like Hagrid. I cannot remember a single time when a modern day remake of an old, beloved IP where the makers inserted their own ideology into it while ignoring the source material was a success. All this said, I love all you Geks and appreciate how you have consumed content from a variety of countries and still were very sensitive. Whatever your politics may be, you clearly have made an effort to keep them out of your content creation (very effectively IMO), and this is something I, and maybe others also here, HIGHLY appreciate. The reason I mention this is because I think interacting more with this show and posting reactions of it will drag you into this world you have clearly intentionally stayed far away from.

Fujiie

I wish my 2yr old son was old enough to understand. It would of been full circle moment. as a kid i loved reading the books then later on watching the movies with friends it really was my childhood. Ima try and not compare and just enjoy it as a kid watching it again for the first time.

Tiara Tyler

I'm hyped for this, while the first 2 movies do a good job of being mostly accurate to the books, the later movies start leaving out more and more. Especially Movie 4 and up. The Goblet of Fire movie was 2.5 hrs, and the book has a 20 hr reading time! The show has the chance to do what the movies couldn't do because of run time. And I for one, cant wait to see it all. As someone who saw the movies first I never knew they left out SO much haha.

TripleJ

This isn't the music, it's just trailer placeholder, thankfully. Hans Zimmer and his team haven't recorded yet. Also the first 2 movies were shot on 35mm and they went digital after that which i'm not sure might have something to do with the change in cinematography, along with a new director, because after Azkaban everything got darker and progressively gets duller through each movie. The UK is generally pretty dull and gloomy, and I think it fits the start of book 1 perfectly with the urban setting, but I think they'll add some more colour once at Hogwarts

TripleJ

Honestly for some of the books its more than 30-40% lmao

Ben Everest

Dracos actor was real good in Lord of the Flies, Jacks characters kinda like Malfoy so can see him killing it in this

Ben Everest

What is this comment section far out

TripleJ

hbo lighting* aka the uk is fuckin dull and gloomy

Arsheley

Is agenda black characters not being only side characters who gets 2 lines at most like back in the day??

.

They are not trying to look the same as the movies at all. What are you on about?

.

This is a TEASER focusing on Harry himself. There'll be a TRAILER when we are closer to the release of episodes. Think about everything that wasn't in this teaser. It only scratched the surface.

.

Me included. I still love the movies but I've always wished for a TV adaptation. So much was cut from the movies

Caleb

I think u have to seperate them, appreciate the old, and embrace the new, this could be just as good if u stop yourself from comparing what u already know and love

Sean Carroll

They watched the Harry Potter movies about 2 years ago with brig so they haven’t stayed away from this world

TripleJ

The first 2 movies adapt the books pretty well as they're much shorter, but stuff really goes off the rail with cutting content after, especially GOF, OOTP and HBP. Thankfully even in this trailer there's some stuff from the book that we didn't get to see in the movie Black hagrid would have been a better choice, since the original is so iconic with the voice and look, honestly they've barely changed his look in comparison to most other characters here, and if hagrid was some big 8 foot unc i don't think anyone would care, it's just a bad choice of character to swap race since Snape has an explicit physical description, and it introduces a few questionable racial undertones, although I think overstated by many fans - Snape is a blood purist even as a kid and him and all his boys do go and join the Wizard KKK, he's not exactly a saint😂 But also I feel that Alan Rickman's performance is so iconic that they completely wanted to change it up as to not look like they were just copying his take on the role. But at the same time even then I have problems with Alan Rickmans performance. Particularly that he's conventionally attractive (same goes for the new guy) aswell as his portrayal is a bit more calm and stoic and shows more restraint in the movies as opposed to book snape who is more immature and cruel, also the fact he was way too old, james and lily are 21 when they die, so in book 1 snape is meant to 31 yet looks in his 50s/60s with Rickman. Honestly I hope them making him a bit more immature and nasty like book Snape will take away a bit from the racial undertones that could be implied with a black Snape, also hope tha they show his childhood and that he was a blood purist as a teen and all him and his friends became Death Eater's later. They kinda overglazed movie snape ngl. As far as acting goes I have no qualms, the new Snape is an incredible actor, with a shit load of recognition both on and off stage for his acting ability. I don't think acting will be a problem at worst there's just some weird undertones. He does look pretty cool though, just not in an overly Snape-ish way. Apart from Snape and maybe Hagrid though the casting is pretty incredible, Petunia and Vernon are so much more accurate, same goes for Hermione, and I love that they're actually showing how nasty Petunia is to Harry. Hopefully they don't make Ron seem dumb like the movies and give a bunch of his smart lines to Hermione. I'm mostly excited for Ginny in later seasons, they absolutely destroyed her character in the movies, and her book character is awesome in comparison.

Sean Carroll

Why is she a terrible person

Sean Carroll

Yeah it’s sad that kids are getting hate. Saw people calling the new hermione actress ugly and it just disgusted me. She’s like 10 years old and people are looking at her that way already.

Sean Carroll

Huh??? What did I say other then ask a question

Angela

The og teaser also only showed short clips of Harry and everyone else but was still able to capture the whimsical vibes but either way, I’m looking forward to seeing what the new adaptation brings! Anyway now I’m definitely in the mood to play hogwarts legacy tonight 🤭

Caraxes🐐DT

Definitely hype for this and imo we need it for sure because the movies cut out so much important stuff but now with it being a show they can do so much more either way the story. Sad we just finna get the hate comments for the kids and snape being black smh he even said he already got death threats for being casted.

C2-H5-OH

I meant staying away from polarizing content, which the OG movies are not.

Caraxes🐐DT

Only weirdos will make Harry not trusting him and Neville being afraid a race thing tbh

Enma

Well said. The hate is actually insane and its the same lame shit every time. And similar to what you said, they always view poc characters as decorations to be sprinkled on in the background with no lines or presence. Which then they just use that to make the argument of "Look, don't you see the diversity? 7 out of 150 characters arent white! You are actually the racist one!" or some bs.

Jeremy

can you guys watch Dune plz

Mack

Yeah he’s meant to be white not black

Dasha

I am very sceptical about this sorry😭 the only actors I like are Hermione and McGonagall

Synyster

Yesss it’s so good!!!

Synyster

Rage bait better lol 😂

Mack

How?

Mack

Damn fr

Sanket Balia

The level of hate is unjustified but race swapping for dei usually is always a complete train wreck especially when its on a major character

Juu

Honestly if we can get a full TV length max budget HBO/Game of Thrones quality harry potter series that adapts ALL of the books without cutting stuff like the movies, I'm all for it. I would have killed for this as a kid and anyone who can grow up with this is going to enjoy it so much. I hope they do a great job, the quality and budget is definitely there with HBO.

Martina

I have read all the books countless times already and, don't get me wrong, I love the movies for nostalgic reasons, I grew up with Harry Potter and the movies will always have a special place in my heart, BUT they don't do the books justice at all... I just have to admit that. The books are PACKED with details, so many stories that aren't even MENTIONED in the films, plot twists and characters that aren't even there. So honestly? I'm stoked for the new generation of HP fans that they're getting a series adaptation, and I think the trailer looks great. It weirdly gives off more 90s vibes than the movies and I can't wait to see how everything turns out.

kuza

i never get pointless redos

kuza

and also animated things into live action not a fan of either

Coen

Its a big pass for me

High Village

god this trailer was so ass.. I just dont get it you have so much potential with this world do somtehing about the creation of hogwarts or previous generations at the school or whatever, aint nobody asked for a reboot of the same shit x)

Jonas Teigen

This is a parody movie right😐

corLeonis

im actually excited for this

Etain

the coloring of the new trailer is just so damn dark and lack the whimsical coloring of the original. Like this isn't the prisoner of azakaban. If you guys see those video comparisons of the overall look between the two...it is a very stark difference

leah

Trailer looks kinda fire tbh

Nic ☦︎

long time hp fan here, i was first introduced to the books many years ago and love the movies as well and got to say was extremely excited for this initially when they announced this because they said it would be more book accurate and would obviousley include more stuff with characters, scenes, sub-plots etc, that the movies just were not able to pack in because of the runtime but this trailer made me very sceptical. seeing them race-swap one of the most pivotal characters in the series is literally such a betrayal of the source material. He’s described repeatedly in the books as having sallow, pale skin, greasy black hair, and that menacing look that’s instantly recognisable and tied directly to his personality, half-blood backstory, Marauders rivalry, and powerful redemption arc. It’s not some minor detail; it’s mentioned constantly from Book 1 onward. If they were truly delivering the book-accurate version they hyped with all the cut sub-plots, house-elf scenes, full Triwizard Tournament politics, and extra Marauders flashbacks why start by rewriting the one character whose appearance is core to the text? The movies already nailed it with Alan Rickman, this just kills any trust I had and feels like they’re throwing canon out the window the second it doesn’t fit the Hollywood checklist. I’m still holding out a tiny bit of hope the series course-corrects, but the trailer has me bracing for more “updates” that have nothing to do with Rowling’s words and everything to do with ticking boxes. Sad to see a beloved franchise go this route.

1804

Authors' actions and what they say do matter I fear... especially if it's constant... I don't doubt the IP will be succesful, but I personally won't indulge in this any longer

relyct

Unfortunately, not going to watch the series nor your reaction to it, as I don't feel comfortable supporting R*wlings in any way. As much as I dislike the undertones of the casting of Snape (love the actor himself) I don't want to read 100 comments on how he's black (and that's negative) everytime. Like yea. We can see. Hope you have fun anyway with it!

No Tap

That has nothing to do with when the show was initially produced which set the groundwork for what the show was going to consider acceptable.

Hype

I mean the last movie came out in 2011 so that's already 15 years ago. And the first movie which this season is adapting, came out in 2001 making it 25 years ago. That's a decent amount of time between adaptations. As someone who read the book multiple times, I love the movies for what they were but they cut out so much of my favorite stuff. I get why, some of it is hard to do in a movie but can be done in a show. All the lore stuff they didn't do in the 6th movie would be great in a slower paced show.

Daniella

The OG movies are my childhood like i've watched them every year without fail. To me this show this feels like a waste, i know the movies skipped some stuff from the books and it seems like they've put in a lot of effort for this. But to me it just feels like another cash grab for nostalgia sake, plus at least from the trailer anyway, it lacks that whimsical feeling the og philosopher's stone had. Idk we'll see but it's so funny this feels like a live action remake even though the movies are live action lol

Nic ☦︎

Pretty ironic since your the one threatening someone here…

Sophia

The blatant racism in the comments packaged as “my opinion” is honestly not surprising. Bringing real world race issues into a fantasy with dragons and magic is honestly just stupidity… guess what, black people can be villains without it being reduced the their skin color, I know shocking right? Just because you can’t see past your biases and stereotypes, it doesn’t mean that’s reality for everyone. And also, the movies and books are not going anywhere, you don’t like this adaptation, you don’t have to watch it. But if you can’t enjoy it, no one can right?

relyct

Thank you for saying that Amdar! I thought I was going crazy with all these comments for a minute. Also glad the Geks are agreeing <3

Tyler

its one of the biggest franchises of all time? of course people are gonna be excited for it

Sasha Ruple

Yeah, that's why I said I don't understand the hype. It's an overrated book series written by a hack.

Gigi

Can we try to be a bit more positive in the comment sections? There's been a lot of negativity lately, and it's pretty wild to leave hateful comments in a community you literally PAY to be part of. If you don't like the show or if it's somehow too much for you, just don't watch it. No one is forcing you to be here, and most people aren't interested in reading constant complaints and racist remarks. The Geks said they'd address it, but if they see this: I'm sorry it's getting so toxic. A lot of us are actually here because we enjoy the content and want to support what you're building.

jared

Wow I had no idea they were doing this, I'm stoked to see how it goes; I got started reading with Harry Potter, it was coming out as I grew up; I read and reread the books so many times and found so much comfort and security in them; while there are elements of the movies I definitely appreciate, I have always felt like they lacked the qualities I most loved from the books; they probably couldn't have been captured in movie form. Excited to see what they can do in this format.

Dub_quinn

As a Harry Potter fan I hope it does well, but you just never know with remakes how authentically they'll follow the books. So that makes me nervous. Same thing if they ever touch Lord of the Rings. I just don't know if we need this many remakes when I would've loved a prequel to Harry Potter to follow Sirius or someone else around, or maybe even be at another school but in the same universe. I'm excited for it and also dreading it since the OG cast already did so well. But so glad it's on your radar too Geks! I'll probably watch as a fan tho, but everything they do is kinda in the shadow of the original since this is coming out so close in time, we needed another decade or more to pass for jokes, editing, cgi to feel too old lol. Like Pink Panther's remake was a 40 year gap or so which worked

Frosty

excited for this cause the movies were terrible. i didnt get to watch them as a kid so watching them as an adult for the first time was ROUGH

DietCocaine

Bro if you think that’s racist you gotta get out more ngl. You should be banned for being cringe about a tame joke

astra

@Enrique if this is true it makes me really sad. I love the Geks and their reactions/commentary. Watching along with them has honestly helped me get through some pretty challenging times. However, seeing racist and queerphobic comments (in this comment section but also for some of their other shows) is making it difficult to feel welcome in this community 🥲

DietCocaine

Yeah probably won’t be that big of a deal the only weird thing is why they race swapped a character explicitly stated to have pale skin. If they wanted to race swapped some characters why not just choose the ones who aren’t described as white

JBVI

Who are you to judge?

Sean Carroll

What’s she done that’s so bad

Sasha Ruple

I'm stating my opinion. But if you want the words of someone eminently qualified, Ursula K LeGuin sums it up quite nicely.

Dee

Omg I can’t wait to watch this! I don’t give a fuck 🙂‍↕️

Mufufu

I just like movie 1 and 2 XD, not saying the others one are bad

TripleJ

yes protect the poor billionaire, she really needs it

TripleJ

Its not really the same shit though tbh, after first 2 books almost 50-60% of every book's content was cut, there's so much lore to expand on and so much extra shit that people who just watched the movies (a large majority let's be honest) have no idea about. Also in general there's huge parts of the movies which sucked and absolutely destroyed certain characters and stupid filler scenes (looking at you, half blood prince)

Caraxes🐐DT

He black now…yall will get over it

JBVI

A quite ignorant view, probably a ragebait but i respect your opinion. The target audience of the books is for teens, so there’s no point in evaluating this work as some kind of philosophical masterpiece of high literature. What matters is that it resonates with readers, and Rowling has succeeded in this more than any other author in history. That is why it is a work of great quality—in terms of its value, not even in literary terms.

No Tap

The forces of Lucifer are trying to tear her down

Sasha Ruple

It's not ragebait. Harry Potter is overhyped. I love books that aren't 'literary masterpieces,' I just think we should move on from this one. People obsessing over a reboot of a somewhat decent kids' book series that ended within living memory. Read more stories, write more stories. What does Harry Potter inspire in people? What values does it cultivate? I don't see anything worth your time there, personally.

Kite

I wasn't talking about you, the comment I responded was deleted

JBVI

So what I like about it is the portrayal of the love between Harry and his parents and his coming to terms with death and loss. The idea is that instead of running from death like Voldemort, the real strength comes from just accepting it as a part of life. What really protects Harry isn't some complex spell but the love - his mom loving him enough to die for him. He figures out that even though his parents are gone, their love is still hardwired into who he is. The idea is that love is way stronger than death, and the people we lose never actually leave us.

Jacob McLaughlin

She hasn’t done anything bad these people are just bitter and hateful

Jv1300

Just wrapped up 15 years ago lol

Cannon Andrus

We always implement our rules when we’re informed that somebody breaks them, and I personally feel like our community is mostly safe. I don’t like the fear mongering in this comment, if you want to leave then you’re free to do so!

Cannon Andrus

We see our comments more than any other creator so Idk where Enrique’s comment is coming from 🤣🤣🤣

GreetswithJudgement

Reads thread. “DELETRIUS MAXIMUS!” Greets said calmly.

Elijah

I haven’t read the books personally but ik anyone who has says there is a lot left out so I’m excited to see what’s new

Dub_quinn

I did feel the intensity more than the whimsical, I hope that's not how the whole show will feel

No Tap

no point in arguing with someone anti-Harry Potter. They would be # 1 stans if it was Harriet Potter and Harry Granger in the remake.

SHDW Replayz

Yeah I won't be watching this just out of spite for the same reason I don't watch a lot of other stuff that has been coming out recently like the new little mermaid. I do love harry potter but not to the point where I'll ignore something stupid like that, I guess maybe I can try and convince myself it's separate and shouldn't be considered the same but it's really annoying when they change races and stuff for no reason especially on such a massive character and I can tell that this is gonna have a bunch of stuff in it from IRL like lbgt or something, I'm gay myself but I don't need it in my harry potter 🫷

SHDW Replayz

Just my initial thoughts perhaps I'll end up watching a few episodes

Sasha Ruple

I genuinely don't know what you're talking about no tap. Are you saying I would like Harry potter if they gender swapped the characters? THAT'S ragebait lmao

SHDW Replayz

If they start deciding what is allowed here in relation to comments then they're picking a side which in this case is something they should never do, it's just comments and they don't matter so if they did what you said which is terrible advice they slowly start only getting viewers from one side and limit their audience for no reason

Chayma

And again : I do NOT like JK Rowling, this woman is everything I hate but people should have limits when it comes to expressing dislikes, or criticism

Xoul

Watching this definitely made me feel emotional/teary just thinking about the original and how I wish they could have done this with THAT perfect cast/crew. I see the potential but the dark vibe has me hoping it's not as dramatic as it looks. The movies bring me happiness, comfort, strength even in the dark moments so I hope this new series can bring that out as well for the new viewers. The actors of the past era had a gentle yet strong dignified aura, as the legends that I didnt even know they were, without even speaking many words, RIP 🧙‍♀️🧙‍♂️

Mitchel

Exactly why are they making this? That’s literally the same as the movies. What’s the point of that?

Arsheley

They are NOT the same just on the trailer alone a person who has read the book can see the are going in deep with the details. I love the movies but they are not even half of what’s in the books, especially the Goblet of fire movie. Just try to give it a chance there’s a possibility of you genuinely enjoying it, do not let nostalgia ruin what could be a great experience.

Arsheley

Parading for homophonic aholes won’t make them think people like you and me deserve to live btw. I hope you free yourself from the shackles

Sari-chan

i know what Carter means when he says "just 15 years" It is not even a generation... But as a reader there is maybe a way for the series to be closer to the original book and bring interesting perspectives that were missing in the blockbuster movies.

Matt C

I know that with a tv show you can flesh things out more and that’s good. But it can also be bad, with more time theres more possibility for added filler/fluff. Plus when you factor in having to wait weekly, I could see people possibly getting bored mid way through. Who knows tho maybe it will be paced well 🤷‍♂️

M1GZ

Crazy too watch HBO make a show that appeases literally NO ONE one sides pissed about race swaps one sides hates it because trans stuff and the people in the middle are calling it completely unnecessary I don’t see how this show goes past a season or two if I’m being honest.

No Tap

that one friend who is too woke

mari_b

I can't deny that it made my chest ache w/nostalgia but I won't be watching the series. I have the books and the movies and don't need to further support this especially when I know how hateful jkr is.

No Tap

Would James Potter have joined the EDL? Many are asking...

M1GZ

Amen

Tom

Took me a minute to work out what you meant by this lol

a_daichi

I personally won’t be watching but the trailer looked pretty good.

Chayma

If not being hateful or spitting violent speeches, is what you mean by woke, then I’m more than happy to be the woke friend

Dale Tucker

lmao this is going to be a hate watch 😂

Riksu

Don’t remember the last time I’ve seen your comment section be so disgustingly negative and filled with hate so I thought I’d share why I’m personally very excited for this show: I grew up with Harry Potter. I was one of those kids lining up on the midnight release of every book. My mother would read the books to my sister and I multiple times over. Us re-reading the books was akin to how TV shows are binge-watched these days. We would make wands out of chopsticks, we would create what we pretended was potions from Moon Sand, we would make real papyrus out of paper by soaking it in water for days and then used real quills to write our schoolwork on them. We’d take our ”wands” with us during particularly foggy or dark days and pretend we were hunting for dark wizards or dementors. We even had our own Marauder names and Animagi forms. Do we need a readaptation? Not necessarily, but I’m personally so hyped to see this world brought to life in a way the movies never quite did. I get that people might have some arguably reasonable worries about the show and the series as a whole, but it’s sad to see the series that shaped so much of my childhood be reduced to dumb politics and hateful internet rhetoric. But in the end, nothing and no one can take away my deep love for Harry Potter and I couldn’t be more excited to - for a short while at least - become a child again and check my mailbox every day for my still somehow missing letter from Hogwarts.

Tom

I'm happy for you; but if there is such a popular negative will against a project there's normally a lot of valid reasons why so many people feel that way. So I would argue that your tone as a defender of the show should be more understanding and persuasive than castigating others by calling their opinions 'disgusting' if you want to open a pleasant conversation

saida

so random, but hearing carter call brig "our previous member" was triggering as an enhypen fan (only kpoppers get me, ignore this comment everyone else). clearly have heeseung and enhypen on the mind, sorry 😅😅

saida

gonna be so honest, watching this trailer emphasised how completely unneeded this reboot was. like in the history of reboots, i can't think of one more unnecessary. and this is in NO WAY targeted at the actors, it's just the truth.

saida

it's the fact that the movies are STILL so relevant to pop-culture and those of us who grew on them still feel connected to their portrayal.

Riksu

Oh I’m not against valid criticism at all. You can have solid reasonings as to why you’re either for or against something without being hateful. The people I’m calling disgustingly negative are those who only see comment sections as an opportunity to scream their hate into the void instead of actual productive discourse. If you take offense to that then I don’t know what to tell you. Watch the show, don’t watch show. Boycott it if that’s what you feel like doing. But what I’ve seen in this comment section and many others talking about the show isn’t mostly valid reasoning but an outlet for racism, hate, death threats and much more.

codesterr

just a fun fact, one piece manga sales are about 85 million copies away from overtaking harry potter sales. obviously its way more chapters and still ongoing but its still kinda cool

Sari-chan

Of course, the existence of the series does not negate the impact of the movies.

saida

i’m so sorry, i didn’t finish reading your comment when i replied 😭😭. you’re right, the show gives book readers a chance to see a more faithful adaptation—i hope they do them justice in the ways the later movies didn’t.

Sari-chan

Yea, it could be worth a watch!

saida

that being said, as someone who loves reading amazing stories only to watch them get butchered on screen, i’ve grown used to expecting book adaptations to fall short on expectations. in this regard, ignoring all the other discourse and in hoping that the showrunners have the intention to be more faithful to the books in mind, i wish this show success!

Nobody

Woke is basically someone who is awake to see what horrors are happening and you are not happy to stay asleep and ignore it. The person that keeps trying to justify their racism in the comments would be considered "Sleeper"

N8

I will say this is for the kids nowadays..that’s my opinion. This isn’t for all of us who grew up on the OG Harry Potter movies. This is terrible. I’ll watch the first episode but I know it’s going to end up being trash. It reminds me of the office spinoff series “the paper”. I watched two episodes and stopped. It’s terrible.

Heretic Rawdog

Never cared to watch the remake until I saw the trailer! Its hitting nostalgia but I'm also excited to see new energy and ideas. Now I'm hyped all of a sudden to binge this. The movies really did leave a lot of subplots out which gave the book world that much more depth.

Dale Cooper

They are really striking while the iron is cold and uncaring.

Sean Carroll

What’s so hateful about her?

TheSauceGuy

I'm glad they went with "Philosopher's Stone" this time lol.

Sean Carroll

What’s she done that’s so hateful

Alexander

As someone who's never seen a single Harry potter movie I'm happy I get to see a new version in a tv series form

J

Google it

Michael H

It feels exactly like the movie, but…less colorful? No strong opinions on this either way. Will wait for word of mouth.

Ichigoat

Sean pls fuck off

Caleb

No😭

mini

I actually love the trio casting! Surprisingly the casting for the adult cast is what's hard for me to adjust to, which I didn't expect!

Mitchel

Sorry I am not gonna watch it because I dont want to support the author, especially when she wants to use the money she makes with this series for something bad

Rawaby 1204

As a Harry Potter fan i wasn’t feeling it and i do think it would be much better if it was some kind of spin off or sequel for the second generation or maybe something like Fantastic Beasts which I enjoyed a lot , but hearing that it’s gonna be a long series (I heard it’s 7seasons) i do want to be more open to it so i can enjoy it more ..

Arctic_stark

Geks, I felt like you did for a while about this show but I eventually accepted that this show isnt being made for me, its being made for a new generation of kids. Cannon mentioned that you'd have been excited if this show came out before the movies, but for kids today this will be true. This show will be the way a whole generation experiences Harry Potter for the first time. Children's tales like Alice in Wonderland get remade every 20-30 years and I think Harry Potter is the modern day equivalent. I think its also important to adjust expectations. This is a TV series afterall. The Harry Potter movies had ridiculous casting, they basically hired the absolute best British actors of the 20th century in one series lol. We had the likes of Alan Rickman, Helena Bonham Carter, Ralph Fiennes and Gary Oldman acting together in a children's fantasy. Actors like Kenneth Branagh and David Tennant kept appearing. The equivalent of this would be if this show went out and got Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and such to sign up. Its just not going to happen for a tv show. Its also why the music seems pretty generic. When you're making a big budget movie you can go get John Williams, the guy who did the background score for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, to give you an epic theme. Cant do that for a show. Overall I think the series wont have the highs of the movies because the talent involved wont be as good, but it probably wont have the lows either. It'll be a more consistent story. Hopefully that shines in the later seasons because as a book reader I can admit that the later books aren't adapted well.

Jack

👀

Jenny D

I definitely have mixed feelings. I agree that it is a big risk. I will definitely watch it . I think they did a good job with the original trio casting. The adults I look a lot younger than the OG adults. I will have an open mind though. I think they would have been better off doing the next generation or a spin-off.

neko

One piece also contains 15x more volumes than harry potter. Manga and novel copies shouldn't be compared 1 to 1 but it's still impressive.

Nrock23

It’s Hans Zimmer. He’s gonna cook with the music as always

Rawaby 1204

Yeah i believe it’s seven books as well

Rawaby 1204

10 is a lot … it has to be really successful or they will cut it short

Enma

"Previous member" 😢😢

Hype

In the books the adults are super young. Lily and James were like 21 when they died, not in their 30s like they look in the movies. Which means Sirius should only be 34.. Same with Snape but he was in like his late 40s.

Hype

Music is by Hans Zimmer and his company. Not exactly a no name.

Jenny D

I did know they were younger. It's just kinda odd

McKay Carter

I think this is the weirdest comment section in Gek history

Cannon Andrus

Yep I agree. We didn’t ask for this 😞

Jeff

Oh no what happened😅

Arsheley

I agree with you 😫 I’m just gonna pirate it

Jeff

Definitely an OG Harry Potter fan. Grew up with it, very nostalgic part of my life. I am curious to see where this goes and also have been in shock seeing the news and stories out there about how aggressive people can get about things. Trailer looks great, looks like its gonna be a quality production. Can't help but compare to the OG movies just because the characters nearly look like a different identical version of what we know. Obviously its going to have a more modern approach, but only seems that way because we aren't kids anymore of this age. Kids that watch this will feel how we felt with the movies. I hope it does well for everyone involved. OG actors were goated. Can't ever be replaced in my mind, but open to see what this new take brings us.❤️

Jeff

The OG cast of adults were so goated. Fingers crossed the new cast pulls it off!

Caraxes🐐DT

I have no doubt it’ll be very successful tbh but yea 10 a lot…I think it could be done tho

Rebecca

lmaoo yall engenes are going through it rn, ive seen the tiktoks and i feel for yall

Matt Haloostock

Hans is a legend. The original music is so iconic though, its hard to compare the two. I'm sure that Hans will still do well though.

sweety

Very unsure about this but will watch it with the community. 🖤

saida

it’s bleak in engene town rn!! but we’re also trending number one in korea and in a bunch of other countries, it’s not over yet!!!!

bigdog

looks like harry potter lol just strange why they remake it so early since it came out

Zachary Provenzano

same here same here ill probably watch it with my mom when it comes out :)

studiogek

We are here to watch and talk about a show. If you are going to comment divisive or contentious things and detract from this community then your comment will be deleted and you will be potentially banned!

Dasha

he's not sasha it's just 4 of them on that one

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

Dasha do we have different patreons then because I just checked out and there is Brig too. But I just realized that maybe you mean the One Piece poster?

Ninjinzo

i agree with Cannon. I think it's unnecessary to do a remake. I also agree that they should've just adapted new content like james or Harry's kids etc.

sweety

Cannon's "What is that?" near the end of the trailer was perfect 😂 Like I still wonder about what that is now and then

Anna

I think HP movie fans are hesitant but HP book fans are very excited for a more faithful adaptation. Hans Zimmer is doing the score so I think the music will be amazing too

Anna

They’ve said his score wasn’t used for the trailer so it’ll be a surprise what the music ends up being!

Anna

In regards to Cannons question, Daniel has said he is excited! He said there have been three spider man iterations in his life and that he would personally like to introduce his kids to a version of HP that isn’t him which I thought was funny. He’s always been a class act and has had nothing but good things to say so far

sweety

Feeling it'll be impossible to top Chris Columbus's adaptations and John Williams's music. The two of them make magical movies, like Home Alone and these ones, literal core memories for children 🖤

Anna

This is exactly me!! Stephen Fry is a favorite but really enjoying the full cast versions so far as well. Audiobook 1-3 Hermione is the HBO Hermione if you didn’t know ☺️ so we get a peek at what her Hermione will be like!

Camille Angelica TV

*high five* and yes, I knew! Full cast version is sooo good. Not just the cast but the quality as well. I would be walking my dog, listening to it and there has been a few times I had to look back/around because the effects sound so real haha

Ashley K

I think having James/Lily's story and Harry's kids as spinoffs would be great content in the future, and I don't doubt they've already started considering it.

Ashley K

I'm very excited to see the book adaptation! Hans Zimmer doing the music will only make it even better!

Aid

We shouldn’t support channels that are supporting this show, jk Rowling doesn’t have an “opinion” she’s actively prejudice, which is bad enough if she’s minding her own business, but she’s not, the proceeds from this are going to fund anti lgbt legislation in the uk, I live in the uk and I’m trans, we shouldn’t have to live in fear, so your either transphobic supporting this or your not and your decent human beings!

Aid

Transphobic things!

EmlovesOP

wait really didn't know this

Aid

Yes she’s using the proceeds from this show to fund organisations that aim to “remove trans people from public life” i have no idea where the humanity in people has gone who do know this and still support the show

Alli

I read the cursed child, and dont understand why they dont adapt that and other spin off stuff. As someone who didnt read the books, and have a hard time going back to read something I already have so many spoilers for, I am excited to see how much more detail we get. Excited, and as long as I can get the other actors faces out of my head and just let myself get immersed, I am sure I will enjoy
