Says episode 1 by mistake I think

Sav

Lets go💅🏽

1 again?

Adriana

2x this week!!!! 🤩🤩 yay! I feel like episode 2 is where everything really starts to hit emotionally, especially seeing everything from Shirley’s perspective. It’s not just continuing the story, it’s showing how each sibling carries the same past in completely different ways. The contrast between Nell’s wedding and the morgue scenes really stood out to me. At the wedding, Shirley is helping Nell get ready, doing her makeup, making her feel beautiful, like she’s stepping into her life. Then later she’s doing her makeup again, but this time Nell is dead, and she’s the one closing her eyes instead of watching them light up. It’s the same hands, the same care, but now it’s about preparing her for death instead of life. That’s what made it feel so dark to me, like Shirley is trying to recreate a moment she can never get back, but in the worst possible way. And with Luke at the wedding, you can tell Shirley is torn. She cares about him, but she also cares about Nell and her day. When she tells him he can’t stay, it doesn’t feel like she’s being cold, it feels like she’s reached her limit. She’s tried to help him over and over, getting him into rehab, supporting him, and he keeps relapsing. So when he shows up high, even if his intentions were good, it still feels like a disrespect to Nell and everything that moment is supposed to be. That’s why that scene feels so tense. The five kittens also felt really symbolic to me. It connects to what their mom used to say about disease, but it also feels like a quiet reflection of the five siblings. Something that looks innocent, but there’s something wrong underneath, even if no one fully says it. And the ending with the “forever home” light blinking twice gave me chills. It felt like a callback to what their mom said about the porch light blinking twice meaning it’s time to come home. It’s like the house is still calling them back in its own way. 🥲

Becca Davidson

John Paul

Brady

23:06 Cannon getting scared by a statue lmfao

Jack

Should we react to Haunting of Bly Manor after this? It popped up on Netflix after we started this

Jack

Totally didn’t notice but McKay had said it

Ella

Yes, please!! I know my opinion may be unpopular, but I like it just as much if not more than the Haunting of Hill House!

E L

no

Osiris704

Never seen it but I’m open to it if yall watch

Maeverly

The way I ran when I saw the notif pop up!! Each episode gets better and better as you go on and learn bits and pieces of an intertwined story from so many POVs that wraps up so beautifully. Literally on the edge of my seat for episodes 5-10.

Anya

Nana_44

Hii anyaaa!! Did you try the show?

Anya

angerina

YEESSSS PLLSSSS i prefer bly manor over hill house but they're both so amazing

jblakk

After the laker game....i needed this lol

jblakk

Midnight mass is the best Mike Flanagan show tho!

Sav

YES

Osiris704

@jblakk Would love to see them react to this as well! I can already see them having really good outro discussions

Rawaby 1204

Mckay’s acting being scared when Carter startled him was one of the biggest reactions he gave in the whole channel lol what a great friend ! watching the second episode makes me think that Cannon might be more scaredy cat than Carter , he was freaking out even about the mom’s hair 😂 meanwhile Mckay seems to have the fun of his life watching the show , glad you guys are enjoying it

izykyzi

All the actors in this show really nail it man 😮‍💨

KenpachiKam

my goat reactors reacting to my goat show! (goat single season show)... been waiting for this one and genuinely never thought it would come. You guys will appreciate it so much. Eps 4-6 are are a comparable 3 episode run to AoT Szn3 16-18...... okay maybe not that iconic. But legit one of the best 3 episode stretches in all of TV I swear. Enjoy the show lads. You'll miss it when its over. Mike Flanagan - the creator of this series is truly a the goat of modern horror storytelling. He has some other notable series that followed this but Hill House is definitely his best.

Grenadoxy

Hyped, what an evening gift

KenpachiKam

I am a HUGE Mike Flanagan fan and as ive mentioned in other comments, Hill House is one of my favorites OAT... that being said, I think Bly Manor doesn't live up to the hype of Hill House. I do not think it is an essential watch and there's other shows I think should take precedence over it. Yall do you of course but lowk a trust me moment. IF ANYTHING - Midnight Mass (another flanagan show) FAR surpasses Bly Manor.

Marsuvies Black

I agree they never look like themself in the caskets better to remember them alive.

Michael H

I think this show has the best child actors I’ve seen in media. The adults are great too, but it’s unusual to see so many child actors in a cast all be this good.

Michael H

We got a glimpse of Carter’s original dance moves during that opening

GBuckets

Nah they're right, there is a jump scare in this show that will get you HARD. I'm not going to say what episode it will be in, I want this information to keep you on edge the whole time you watch this.

Melizé

Molto Bene!

Michael H

Peeling back another layer of the Jack onion: big One Tree Hill fan. Dude caught that Nathan popup in 0.13 seconds.

Nasty

Feel like the show is focused too much on present time then the past. Would be much better to actually witness alot more of the actual decently scary stuff then just some cheap jumpscares here and there.

Michael H

Weakest episode in the bunch, in my opinion. Still solid, but every episode after this one is just ridiculously good.

Dreamknight942

Love this series, the theme gets me every time

Arctic_stark

I haven't seen either Bly Manor or Midnight Mass, so I'll watch whatever you guys pick.

Arctic_stark

The interesting thing about the way this show is set up is that for about 99% of the spooky stuff you see, you could use Steve's interpretation from Episode 1 to describe it. That there isn't any supernatural stuff going on and these people are just seeing what they subconsciously want to see, or that it's their trauma manifesting.

Jessica

I know they are so good!!

jaki

Not sure if i misunderstood your comment, but a lot of the focus on the present and the past is really about showing how the trauma from Hill House affects the characters as adults. The past scenes aren’t just for scares, they give context and emotional depth. I think the show is more focused on storytelling than just trying to be scary. The quick jump scares are just a way to keep tension, like most horror media, but the heart of the story is really in the characters. Just let it breathe. 🙏

Jessica

don’t focus on the ghosts in the background it’s like you said more of a second watch thing, the show is so detailed and honestly I notice more stuff for every watch

Jessica

The most tragic parallel: Shirley doing Nell’s makeup for her wedding and then using that wedding pic to do her makeup for the funeral 💔

StandedJosh

Jack saying open caskets are "really hit or miss" is so funny to me

Mia Malvik ⚞ • ⚟

Idk, in my opinion the show is really not scary. It's just super good storytelling which is why it's so highly rated. Horror is way more than just cheap jumpscares

Mia Malvik ⚞ • ⚟

I gotta make a comment about the lighting because having it right in your faces looks so uncomfortable 😭 A lil tip, the best (and correct) way to light something is to have it bounce off a surface like a wall or the ceiling onto the subject. If you have it pointed at the ceiling over you it'll diffuse the harsh shadows and also not blind you, while still giving enough light. It's a difficult thing to set up but it's worth experimenting with in my opinion

Jengit

McKay saying why don’t you close your eyes and then you‘d be Daredevil, has to be the most diabolical thing I have heard all week 😂😭

LuvStarburst

I'm home from being out, and its 340am, and I guess that's a perfect time for me to watch this episode. I vote for horror movies or shows you guys decide to watch, and use some lights you can dim to make it a little darker for the aesthetic.

Yannick Schwarz

LISTEN TO THIS MAN! The director peaked here

T.Yaseen

I need answers lmao, The father is sus how did he know Nell was dead, and why is he refusing to tell his kids what happened with their mom

Chayma

What I love about this show is that it’s not just a horror show here to make you jump out of your seat, the storytelling and build up is excellent and they know how to keep you on the edge of your seat

Vlad Blue

As someone who gets migraines, they can happen fast and out of nowhere. Also, different people have different triggers for migraines. On top of that when you get one, having a child yelling right next to you is painful and you probably will lash out. Migraines are/can be crippling. I had to drive with one once and am happy I made it home. I am also starting to think they might be missing things in the show, but I could be wrong. I'm not going to tell them anything. I have my suspicions but, eh. I'm just here to watch them get scared.

Kim 555

Reminds me of when my grandma died and my father drive an hour for the funeral. I thought it would just be the burial but my father went to the hospital. I was so nervous and then we went to the ER to say goodbye before she gets buried. Idk, maybe I didn’t like seeing my grandma all gray/blue and lifeless. It was traumatizing

Daniella

In slight defence of the parents, i think it’s a given that kids have very active imaginations. The kids aren’t showing constant signs of distress, like for the most part they’re all having fun and chilling. Apart from the occasional weird situation that can be explained away due to it being an old house. The only reason why it feels annoying and like they aren’t “listening” is because we know to some degree the kids are telling the truth and there is definitely something weird going on. On top of that it’s not like they planned to stay in the house forever, they were meant to move. But i understand i would also be out of there with the speed lol. Anyways, glad you guys have loads of questions, the mystery elements are so good!

assaub

Ngl wish people hadn't told them about the background ghosts, it's way cooler if people start to notice them organically and when they're told about them people tend to spend their time trying to spot ghosts instead of just focusing on the show.

assaub

Bly isn't as good as this one imo, it's also not a sequel, same writer and a lot of the same actors though. Still worth watching for sure. Any more Flanagan is a good decision. Midnight Mass is his best work imo

pineapplegreg

Cannon are you inside my brain? That Becky G song you were singing at the beginning of the episode has been on repeat for the last week. I came across TikTok last week that reminded me of it's exsistance.. what a weird/funny coincidence

Penn

I hope i understand the ending better this time around with a rewatch cause i remember what happens but not the why...I think most of yalls questions will be answered though! I really like how they present this show though...its like horror thriller

Sav

Carter playing Kevin G, iconic🤣🤣

Mo

I think small-medium details are being missed because you guys are talking over them and not deeping what's being said. Not a dig though because lol you wouldn't know what comes back around and what doesn't but just something to keep in mind

Chelsea Kaufman

This show isn't just about 'scary stuff', which I think is really important to remember. It's about grief, trauma, family, memory and loss. So many things. What I love most about Mike Flannagan's horror shows is he blends horror with heart so well. He crafts these stories that really touch you, make you feel deeply, on top of all the spooky stuff going on.

Nana_44

What I’m saying! I feel like an addict rn all I want is this lol

sil 🧸ྀི

the casting director COOKED with the younger + older versions

Jessica

It’s been one day since you posted this but it feels like forever I’m having withdrawal 😭 I want more

mina

is it weird that it's giving me dark vibes? the mystery of it!!

Itzel

Just finished watching PEAK, I actually underestimated how good this show was gonna be😭

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

“It’s maybe a hot take, but I don’t like seeing people in their caskets.” — What? I think the real hot take is when people act like that’s normal or even helpful. Especially when you’re a kid or a teenager — that can be a really traumatic experience! I remember my grandfather’s funeral, when I was told to look in the coffin to say goodbye to him, but I refused to do it. Sorry, but I’d much rather remember him alive, and I definitely didn’t want to see him dead. I was 18 then, and I’m 31 now and still think I made the right decision!

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

It’s been 7–8 years since I watched this show, but I still remembered all the scenes in this episode where Shirley was “fixing” Nellie’s body so vividly, because they left such a strong impression on me in the most disturbing and unsettling way.

HTTeddy

A note on Migraines. They can quite LITERALLY knock you on your ass. They can come out of nowhere and can even cause nausea. Common symptoms are sensitivity to light, sound and smell.

Cyn

Yes, some of us also see colors and my best friend loses half her vision. I think a lot of people don't really know how severe migraines can get

Cyn

I can't lie I've personally found it helpful for processing and was appreciative at my most recent funeral that I did. Idk, but seeing them cements the reality of the loss in a way. It is true that they don't look like themselves in life, animated, but I'd also say that's the point. It really settles the feeling that they've moved on. That's just me though. I imagine everyone's experience is different.

Michelle

dang i didnt even realize this was already posted

Michelle

so excited to see it

Veronica

So excited for yall to watch this show. I hope one day you can get to midnight mass.

TheSauceGuy

Is it just me, or do the sisters sort of blend together? Like, I didn't even realize there were three of them for a while, I thought there were only two lol. Maybe I was just too tired in the first episode.

Sav

I wish🤣 I love that Kevin G as well

Arthur Fields

Don't try to spot all the hidden ghosts. Just enjoy the episodes and when finished with the series, let the YT video show you where all the ghosts were. It amazed me to learn that there were a few ghosts RIGHT THERE IN THE SCENE and I didn't even notice. It creeped me out.

Ninja Hunter

Again everytime I see this show I'm always down for a rewatch, so good!

Marcus

Cannon’s point is totally valid and fair. I wouldn’t spend too much time trying to spot every ghost in every scene because you might miss crucial dialogue. I like Carter’s idea of maybe trying to find all the ghosts on a second watch. On the first watch, just enjoy the wild ride and the absolute masterpiece that is The Haunting of Hill House.

Dittobynewjeans

you guys are probably expecting horror elements that you see in a typical horror film. yes, it is considered a horror but the real “haunting” isn’t the house, it’s the trauma that follows them long after they leave. the ghosts are just how it chooses to show it. so don’t expect much horror except for the atmosphere and the dark themes the show explores. just prepare to sob a lot.

Jenna Woginrich

It's not just you. Everyone I watch this as a reaction also skips theo in the flashbacks when this starts, classic middle gay kid lost in the mix haha. But was impressed the guys here even mentioned her name before the club scene. So they picked up on three!

LuvStarburst

Another night out for Easter, which was great, but why am I watching this at night? Can't wait to get jump-scared with this headset I'm wearing. The music and everything really set the tone, but I'm only getting jump-scared when it happens to you 4.

Ellie

OMG please also watch The Haunting of Bly Manor after this! Its a seperate story altogether but same creators of the show and some of the same cast. (Personally I kind of prefer it but love Hill house too!)

SoloMio

One reaction channel learned about the ghosts hiding and they spend their ENTIRE reaction looking for them and missed the show and its meaning. So thanks for nothing to people who tip off reactors. I quit that patreon and didn't finish the show because the reactors were like a dog after you say squirrel.

isa

I'd never watch horror on my own, I can't handle scary things, wish there were subtitles for your commentary too so I can mute the audio and not be jumpscared lol

SoloMio

It is infinitely better for reactors to be tipped off about nothing. Just let them have their experience. And us enjoying that.

SoloMio

Best one in the outro and not done while dialogue is going on. They are already missing stuff which minimizes reaction quality.

isa

Shirley's actress also plays Esme in Twilight

ryejett

I cannot believe it's taken me this many rewatches to realize why those kittns died

S Moonchild⁷

I am hiding the screen every time I get creeped out, but dad's voice changing freaked me out. I also didn't see the 2 ghost faces in this episode. I hope I won't have nightmares. In my culture cats are considered animals who suck all bad energy. If a cat dies inside a house suddenly, it is considered that she took negativity from the house, if it happens multiple time, there is smt wrong with the house

Tealhiid

What doesn't help is that they probably put most of their money into the house, so it's not that easy to just pick up and leave

Sera Duke

There's a point at which, if one continues to adopt cats in such circumstances, one may see it not as adoption, but more as feeding cats to the House. (I know you meant Shirl's kitties, but I stand by my point lol)

Sera Duke

(Summary: Excited ramble about where else the cast can be seen elsewhere.) And her younger self is used again as a young Madeline Usher in another Netflix series -- "Fall of the House of Usher." You'll see Theo and Liv there, too -- but tbh House of Usher was not my fave, so I wasn't paying AS close attention. Steve is Dario something something-- one of Dani's lovers in from GoT, and I'm sorry he's still hot; Luke shows an ability to KILL IT with a character who is a complete 180 in "The Haunting of Bly Manor" Adult Theo and Adult Nell (Victoria Pedretti please marry me yesterday) have roles in "Bly Manor" as well. Oh! Also Hugh. You know, different people, but it's lovely to see the actors. Even Poppy pops up. And I THINK it was Poppy who was the prodigal sister in "Absentia" You'll see Theo, Leigh, Mr. and Mrs. Dudley in Midnight Mass. Theo (sorry I'm so bad at most actors' real names) is Mrs. Mike Flanagan, and she shows up in one of his films, "Hush" which is a TAUT fucking thriller. ...so that's enough gushing. Did I miss anyone?

Sera Duke

That is a GREAT episode of TV. Theo is a fucking bad-ass with so many layers, and she does it so well. Her acting is OFF the charts. But ep 3 up against The Bent Neck Lady, Two Storms, and Silence Lay Steadily? Mmm, idk gotta pick Two Storms for both acting and technical mastery.

DonDuh103

Got to find the panda 🐼?

DonDuh103

Who said are the kittens gonna come out her mouth!!!!
