I thought this was some brainrot thing as well, then immediately changed my mind when I first watched with the Geks. Anime was the weird at one point until everyone got a bit more open minded, so how hard could it be for you to acknowledge it better? You don't have to like it cause everyone's got different taste, of course. But there's a reason this show got netflix's budgeting and a movie coming out.

The fact that when Pomni said "i'll buy you a beer", the npc repeated "make the right choice" instead of responding like a normal human would cause he wasn't programmed to respond so he defaulted and before when he said "i'll draw a face on myself so you can me apart from the OTHER npc's" instead of saying "the npc's". Absolutely diabolical from Caine because he knows deep down they want to leave and played with their hopes with this

From my perspective, Jax was laughing so hysterically because he felt guilty about pressing the button choosing to keep everyone essentially imprisoned. The images we saw seemed like his past which he was having a panic attack over plus when Zooble asked him whether he has anyone waiting for him on the outside, he hesitated. To find out it was an adventure and he was right alleviated his guilt but also made him pissed because this adventure messed with his head and made him think he did a terrible thing. I'm excited for the next episode...the last one for now sadly 😭

something interesting I've seen only 1 reactor get is the chineese room having more meaning beyong a "dumb joke" by caine. Its also really interesting that kinger found it funny. "The chineese room is a thought experiment arguing that computers, despite running sophisticated programs, simulate understanding rather than possessing true comprehension." basically you insert a word or sentence in chineese into the room and it gives you one back. But inside the room is just a guy who doesnt know chineese, but has a book that tells him what to reply, basically if you see x, write y. So while its giving responses, and the people outside the room think its a room that truly understands them, on the inside its just following orders.

Fun fact: Zach Hadel voiced one of the fish at the beginning! The main reason I didn't think they'd actually leave and it was fake was that I knew there were two episodes left and didn't think they'd both be in the "real world" 😂 2nd clue was how sympathetic Abel was for Caine, saying he wouldn't be able to leave with them and that he was a prisoner too, bc it was really just Caine speaking through Abel. Other little clues- there is a bee doodled on the sheet Abel showed them of the plan (I recommend taking a closer look at all the details on that page👀) and Abel got a lot of details wrong in his "flashbacks" like a computer would of it was recreating a moment. But it was definitely a well planned out adventure, we can see that NPC watching them in the background going back several episodes.

this is prolly the best episode of the series so far, jax almost abstracting and having that moment at the end is peak. I feel like digital circus is really doing something profound with this concept of abstracting, its a message I feel like is really important right now. but in general this show gives me major plato’s allegory of the cave vibes, y’all should look that up too along with the chinese room thought experiment!

If Caine really didn't really want them to bring Kinger along, he would have made it possible. Caine tells us this was his most thought out and well planned adventure he had been cooking up for a while. It was psychologically sadistic in ways that requires them to have been there long enough that despite their suspicion and doubts, they wouldn't be able to resist. Telling them to exclude Kinger was part of the plot to make it feel more real. He let them bring Kinger along and gave them 2 buttons that were never gonna work. He didn't control Jax. Either way, he would have congratulated them for pressing the right button, or acted sad and hurt that they wanted to leave for pressing the wrong button. Which would have the same psychological impact on the residents. Nothing would change except Caine's performance to the choice.
