Taken from a random tumblr post I found, as I was also super confused about the sword of Luck & Pluck too: “Luck & Pluck” is an old phrase that basically refers to the difference between the people who effortlessly obtain what they want through good fortune or illegitimate means (Luck) and the people who have to make their way in life through hard efforts (Pluck). Dio tried to cheat his way to fortune, and then later discovered how to become immortal by coincidence, so he represents LUCK. Jojo has to suffer many trials and hardships in life in order to bring about a resolution, so he represents PLUCK. This is why Bruford says to "bear this with you in your future".

Can y'all react to the outro too? The images on the outro change and tell a story progressively over each ep. Don't want you to miss anything haha everything is thought out in this series and music is a big part and inspiration for the mangaka which you'll see overtime.

There's plenty of vampire stuff that came out prior to this, including vampire anime in the 80s prior to this. Also if you're just talking about anime in general it goes way back. There was Astro Boy all the way back in 1963 that was the first major anime series. One of these days I would love for you guys to watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) which I still love and think is great to this day. I think the three movies work like a mecha Star Wars trilogy and even watched them again a few years back and still love them.

Dragonball and Jojo actually are considered to be the two founding fathers of modern shonen here in Japan. DB laid the groundwork for power scaling type series where the MC needs to level and the latter was the archetype for series with unique powers by character where they use cleverness to win. Most battle shonen are some blend of both. A lot of the authors of the shonen considered classics today like HunterxHunter, FMA and Bleach directly cite Araki (the author of Jojo) as their inspiration. Crazy thing is, he’s still continuing Jojo to this day decades after those series became legends in their own right.

It did not adapt the full story of Part 3 but it is still beloved by the older Jojo communities. it does mean courage but pluck also means the action of pulling something out (example: plucking feathers from a bird, plucking flowers) anyways in this context it's definitely courage and bravery

I don't know about USA anime history, but at least in LatAm anime was huge even in the 70's-80's before Dragon Ball, like my mom and dad used to talk about Mazinger Z, Candy Candy, Heydi, etc. I think Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya, in our case, were the ones that set "this is Japanese animation" in our minds and started to make that distinction from other cartoons.

Backround info on pluck: "Horatio Alger, Jr. was an author around the time Jonathon would have been alive and did a series of books called Luck and Pluck. All of these stories had a general theme of the rags to riches narrative. Generally the protagonist would go from a humble beginning to a middle class or higher lifestyle through hard work, determination, courage, and honesty. Other characters rely on quick wits and luck and are often seen as a cheat in some way. Luck and Pluck represent the different methods. Dio represents Luck in the way that by chance Dario tried to rob George's carriage providing Dio with a way to obtain riches through murder and deceit. Jonathan on the other hand represents Pluck in the way that he needs to succeed through hardships and trials that test his will and determination having all of his family and wealth "plucked" away from him." This is from a Reddit thread so no idea if its 100%, but i saw this mentioned multiple times so yeah good enough for me.
