kate

Mona

Testing my patience huh

Mona

Thanks bros

Ko_Kuma

LMAO i were about to write that; let’s be grateful they didn’t skip the week, plus the next episode (my favourite) will come quicker !!

eiden

NO CANNON IS DIABOLICAL

Romang

i second this lol i would love a cannon solo reaction just for this ep cause it’s so good

Mona

NO CANNON FOMO

el

Wait, I just realized something crazy—my three favorite dramas, Reply 1988, My Mister, and When Life Gives You Tangerines, all have these weird coincidences 😭 First, they’re the top 3 highest-rated Korean dramas of all time on IMDb: When Life Gives You Tangerines: 9.2 My Mister: 9.0 Reply 1988: 9.0 IU (the female lead in When Life Gives You Tangerines) is also the lead in My Mister. Meanwhile, Park Bo-gum (the male lead in When Life Gives You Tangerines) is the male lead in Reply 1988 😭✨ It really feels like fate lol.

Anya

26:58 Carter can't watch because of Yeong-beom's mom but McKay can't watch because of the eating sounds 😂😂

DonDuh103

Holy crap you guys drop so many episodes today hope yall enjoying everything and aren’t overwhelmed with trying to keep the schedule straight. I really appreciate how much yall care and hopefully the ones who complain weren’t too load this time around about skipped episodes due to the fact yall are human and shit happens! Thank you and we miss Cannon.

bondbond53

My heart broke for him so much

RZL

It's funny you guys felt so bad for him. This episode actually cemented my dislike for him. Other than saying mom repeatedly and then backing down when she talked over him a little bit, and getting up to help ladle the soup only after Gwan-sik begged him, the guy took no action to defend or show that he was on Geum-young's side. Even a few episodes ago, all he did was stuff his face with noodles when some of her friends were talking badly about her behind her back whereas Picasso defended her when his gf/ex gf insulted her. The episodes leading up to and including this one show the fundamental difference between him and Gwan-sik/Picasso. They are willing to take action and he is not. He is sweet but spineless, and just let his mom mistreat Geum-young 24/7. I'm sorry to say that at the end of the episode I only saw him as a coward and a bit pathetic for saying he'll cut off his family, he was never going to do that.

Lamya

Ahh I love this episode I wish cannon was here ): , but I hope he’s having a good time 😔😊

M

s/k

He warms her feet, to show he’s a kind, gentle and loving man like her father, but wasn’t strong enough to stand up for her against his family. That’s when geumyeong realised he wasn’t the right person she was meant to be with. He priorities his mother’s happiness over hers and his own…

Anya

So disappointed in Yeong-beom I always liked him because he was similar to Gwan-sik. He's super sweet and loves Geum-myeong but he never took any action! Wish he had grown a spine and fought harder for Geum-myeong like Gwan-sik did for Ae-sun! Wish he broke free from his mom's control! Status and wealth do not ensure happiness so I like how they added the flash forward with the aging montage. Because of her constant interference in her son's life she condemned them both to a lonely life filled with regret! Her new daughter in law is her karma!

˗ˏˋ Manayer ʚ ˖𓍢ִ໋🪷✧˚

Yeah, exactly! I liked him at first, but he never really stepped up like Gwan-sik. And like Geumyeong said, he tries to be nice to everyone, but that just doesn’t work in their situation. So honestly, I’m glad she didn’t end up with him.

Cannon Andrus

Maybe I should huck a solo to this 🤔

floo

Yess u should

Romang

i mean… the question is, DID yeong-beom really try? yeah, he voiced displeasure at his mother’s words and actions, but did he really DO anything with significant impact besides interjecting with “mother!” angrily? the thing is, he didn’t really do enough to truly protect geum-myeong from his family like gwan-sik did for ae-sun. he’s so preoccupied with trying to please everybody, or trying not to make anyone TOO upset, which makes him unable to fully be on geum-myeong’s side the way he should be. not to say he’s not a sympathetic character— it’s definitely hard not to feel bad for him— but at the same time, there comes a point where he also becomes the maker of his own misery. in the flash forward, we see that his breakup with geum-myeong didn’t serve as the wake-up call it should’ve been. he could’ve taken this as a lesson, grown as a person and learned how to stand up to his mother and break free from her to take control of his own happiness, but he didn’t. one could argue that it’s because he’s a product of his environment but look at gwan-sik, who is a direct foil to that. gwan-sik was able to go against the status quo and stand up for his wife in a time where it would’ve even HARDER to do so, when societal and patriarchal standards were even MORE oppressive than they were during the 90s. yes, yeong-beom is a nice guy…. but that’s it, which is the problem. that being said, it is very sad.

isa

please do

floo

Not related but whats McKay's ideal type girl ? Sorry just curious🤣

isa

I find it so interesting how you guys felt so bad for him. In my previous watches I guess I only considered how it played out from Geum Myeong's pov. But that's just what I love about this show, how it showcases similar life experiences and how differently they play out depending on the person. For Gwan Sik, it makes sense he stepped up for Ae Sun because she ultimately was the most important part of his life. Even though Yeom Beom did love Geum Myeong, he was obviously inclined to favor his mother because that's how he had always lived, being passive and living used to her antics. It is sad, but I think it's realistic.

McKay Carter

Probably the one on that pfp

McKay Carter

I mean we aren’t heartless 😂 of course he didn’t do as much as Gwan-Sik, but it was still a really unfortunate situation for him with how vile his mother was. He was still a kid who was never taught the right way which is sad

McKay Carter

2 GEKS OUT OF TOWN IN ONE WEEK WE ARE SORRY 😭

McKay Carter

I think we need to relax on him a bit, he was by no means perfect but I think it’s a miracle he was a kind person after seeing the kind of people his parents were

McKay Carter

Yeah a very realistic situation, this show articulated it perfectly which is so impressive

Jones

👋🏾Hey loved the episode just wanted to mention one small thing with the audio is a bit uneven. The quality itself is good ,but sometimes McKay and Jack are harder to hear. So I turn the volume up, and then Cannon and Carter come through much louder. Not a huge deal, just wanted to mention it in case it’s an easy fix. With all respect. Other than that, everything has been great. I really appreciated y’all’s perspective on their relationship because it gave me a sense of empathy I didn’t have when I first watched it. Like someone else mentioned, I kept comparing Gwansik and the first love to each other. And obviously no one can really compare.

Anya

McKay Mukbang 👀

Carter D. Andrus

These comments are….interesting to say the least.

Tivy

Sorry I haven’t watched this yet so I don’t know the Geks’ exact takes, but I’ve been reading the comments and I honestly think both sides can exist at once. I completely agree with everything people are saying about Yeong-beom — he WAS spineless, he didn’t truly stand up for Geum-myeong, and at the end of the day he just wasn’t the partner she needed, so they were never going to work. But at the same time, I do think it’s valid to feel bad for him depending on why. If it’s about the way he was raised and the kind of control his mom has over him, then yeah his situation is actually really sad and explains a lot about why he turned out the way he did. It doesn’t excuse his actions at all, and Geum-myeong did absolutely nothing wrong (she chose herself and her family, and she owed him nothing), but I don’t think he was ever meant to be a villain either. His story just feels more tragic than anything, like he lost the person he loved because he couldn’t break out of the life he was stuck in the same way Gwan-sik did. I’ll come back with more thoughts once I actually watch this lol, but that’s just how I see it going in.

Tivy

We would all tune in!

Lamya

Yes pls!! , justice for tangerines it’s been tough in this series everything happened lol

Carter D. Andrus

I’m glad to at least see some semblance of sympathy isa!

RZL

I get it, he wasn't taught the right way, but he isn't a kid, they are both in their early to mid 20s. He just never took action, that's the main thing. It's just that I felt much worse for Geum-young & her family. Especially at the end of the episode when the breakup took a year because he tried to hold on for so long which was understandable, but also selfish with some of the things he said. That took away what little sympathy/pity I had left, but I do agree it was very sad. I want to make it clear I don't mean to change your mind or imply your pov is invalid, it's just that the whole episode basically was upsetting to watch so I had to comment lol

Tivy

That’s true, McKay. Everything you said @RZL is totally true and I agree with, but it’s not like Yeong-beom is a villain. I think it’s okay to still feel bad for him while still criticizing and acknowledging the areas where he fell short.

McKay Carter

Yeah I think the criticism is valid it just seems like we are getting a weird rep for sympathizing his situation

isa

exactly! I also think his character 's life could serve as an example/display of an unfortunate but real cultural aspect of classism present between korean families. I'm not korean, but that's how it comes across.

Sarah Lim

As someone living in Korea, I just want to share my two cents. Of course there are always people who don’t follow traditions, but the majority still do, especially when it comes to marriage. One thing I’ve noticed a lot is how many couples end up breaking up because their families don’t approve of the relationship or the other person’s background. Like Geumyeong, these situations are often tied to family status or how “stable” the partner seems. For example, with Youngbum’s mom, she clearly sees marriage as a way to maintain or even upgrade their family’s status. That mindset isn’t rare. A big reason family approval matters so much is because marriage here is often seen as a union between two families, not just two individuals. At the same time, not every family is as extreme as Youngbum’s. The show definitely exaggerates things, but the overall situation itself is still pretty common. Also, the whole “marriage market” in Korea can be rough. A lot of people focus on checking boxes: education, job, family background, rather than actual connection. Some people even get married after only meeting a few times. It’s also really common to use matchmaking services that connect you with people who match a certain “level” or status, which kind of reinforces that system even more.

윤서 최

There are so many couples broke up due to their parents. I have 8 close friends and 2 of them experienced it while marriage preparation. This happens a lot if one of the family is wealthy and parents supported a lot to their kids, and the other is not. But I guess it's became more open minded now than past.

Tivy

I agree. Like I said, I haven’t gotten to watching this yet (I will soon trust lol), but if all y’all said and expressed is that you feel bad for him in a way, then I don’t see the issue 🤷‍♀️

RZL

I can see how my very first sentence may sound, I'm very sorry about that. Never meant to imply anything like that, was too in the moment and that's my bad.

Jack

Yeah we mostly just feel bad because why a horrible mother to have and what a stupid situation to have to deal with. His mother was a monster and it definitely wouldn’t be easy for him to stand against her given that he definitely feels indebted to her for everything in his life. I know Gwan-sik is the bar we wanted him to live up to which is a high bar to strive to. I get what has been said that he is sweet but has a no spine, he may not have been able to marry Geum-myeong but he deserved better than being married to some girl he probably didn’t love just because his mom wanted it to happen. He deserved better given that he was a sweet guy and was obviously striving to be better than his parents, that’s a hard cycle to break

Carter D. Andrus

Great comment Tivy! Bro is actually just a consequence of his stupid parents who loved her so much and no matter how much he loved her, he couldn’t be the one for her which for him is heartbreaking. Everything about geum myeong goes without saying and there’s a severe lack of nuance going on from his perspective

Lamya

Give us a update if u gonna do it or not pls (:

Jack

Idk if he prioritizes his mother happiness but that’s a hard barrier to break given that he feels indebted to his mom and this is probably the first time in his life has had to stand up to her. He maybe didn’t deserve Geum-myeong but he deserved better than marrying some random who his mom was happy with. And yes sadly he didn’t have the will to break that cycle

Anya

Do it Cannon! I wanna see you crash out 😂

Lamya

I love how active the geks in the comments in this ep!☺️

Jack

Yeah he didn’t have the same grit as Gwan-sik which makes more sense given his upbringing and connection to his mother. I wonder if he loved his wife in the future or not, didn’t seem like it

Mim

With Geum-yeong and Mr Weak Hero, I think the tragedy of it all is sometimes it's the right person, but the wrong time, the wrong environment and a very different upbringing. This specific plot is interesting because I relate with Geumyeong as a woman, wanting to find someone who prioritises me and centres me, but I also relate to Weak Hero fella because unfortunately I have parents who are VERY particular about who I date and are vocal about it too. Been fighting them back but sometimes it's exhausting too! Don't blame the lad for giving up and giving in, at least he wasn't cruel enough to force Geumyeong to stay with him, or gaslight her into being with him.

Carter D. Andrus

I won’t lie, I find it absolutely shocking that somehow we are in the negative minority feeling bad for someone who is a product of vile horrible parents.

Carter D. Andrus

Love this perspective mim thank you for sharing. It’s sad that apparently feeling bad for someone in his position/yours is so rare in that regard

Tivy

Exactly Isa! I really like how you brought up the classism side of it because that’s such a big part of why he is the way he is. That’s honestly why he feels so tragic to me. Not because he was a perfect guy, but because he wasn’t a bad one either, just someone shaped by that environment who ended up being… disappointing lol. He could love her, but not enough to go against everything he was raised in, and that’s what cost him. He couldn’t do what Gwan-sik did. That’s the contrast I love between these two first-loves and how the story tells it.

Anya

I agree Jack! That's why I'm more disappointed than angry with him. His upbringing definitely played a role that's why I wish he broke free. His mom though is a rat and I blame her the most. She got her karma though because she has to live on eggshells with his wife that she was happy with! I don't think Yeong-Beom loves his wife. His mom mentioned his drinking and he's coming home late. They both suffered because of her.

Tivy

Thank you Carter! I agree that his situation is heartbreaking, especially knowing how much he did love her, but I think that’s where the nuance comes in which we can probably all agree on. He’s not a bad person, he just kept choosing the easier route instead of the right one. Like you can see how his parents shaped him, but at the end of the day those moments where he stayed quiet are what cost him. He couldn’t do what Gwan-sik did, but I think that contrast is really beautiful storytelling.

isa

the point of his character kinda gets lost in the story when people try to paint him as a villain who did not give Geum Myeong her happy ending, which is obviously not the point at all.

Mim

Of course, believe it or not in this situation I find myself closer to Geumyeong's position right now lmao. However, in the past I have found myself in weak hero man's shoes too. I did fight back but not everyone has the will to do so which is understable. We need to have the ability to look at things from a nuanced perspective although it's natural for us to take the side of the character we see ourselves in 😅

Tivy

I agree Jack! And I completely agree with you too Anya! Disappointment is the perfect word. He simply just wasn’t the one 🤷‍♀️ doesn’t make him evil though, which a lot of people make him out to be. You can be a flawed character but still be tragic and feel bad for them in some aspects. Seeing the mom get her karma in that sequence was so satisfying.

Anya

We really missed out on Cannon sharing his perspective. I can see him getting heated in the outro discussion and in the comments! CannonRage🍿😂

Tivy

We need a Cannon reaction video! He’s done it before, he missed watching the highest rated MHA episode so he uploaded his own little solo reaction to it lol. So lwk he should do it again 👀

Tivy

I love how invested the Geks are in discussing this episode lol. I’m sure some of it is because of the reaction in the comments, but this episode really does sneak up on you with how good it is. It’s tragic, but the way it presents everything and adds that perspective is done really, really well. I’m excited for next Wednesday! The next two episodes are also sooo good ☺️

Carter D. Andrus

I think if you come away from this episode and don’t feel for Yeong bum, you are entirely missing the point of what the show is trying to tell you. What I love about this show is how real it is from ALL perspectives, children parents male and female and the hardships they face just trying to make it through life. I think that this is perfectly encapsulated by the final shot of his mom growing old never smiling again after getting her way when he married someone she approves of and being so horrible to Yeong Bum Geum Myeong and Ae Sun. The show is quite literally frowning on her actions. This show has shown the good and the bad that comes from the old Korean culture, and this is part of it. He loves her so much but he has been raised as his mother’s “masterpiece” so she says, and can never be the one for her because he is incapable due to how he was raised. Not everyone can be perfect like Gwan Sik, and I would guess that this was added because it is still relevant today. He is the product of a horrible way of being raised and him and the entire point of his character deserves more positive reception.

uriuuu

This drama does such a great job at characterization and acknowledging the faults/strengths within each and every character that I'm never surprised when there's this much discourse😂 it truly goes to show just how well crafted and realistic these relationships are that everyone in the comments has differing opinions. I seriously admired what Geumyoung said about how she knew they'd hate each other if they ever got married. Even though her own heart was breaking while saying that, she still had the strength to do what was right for both of them. I love hearing your guys' thoughts and I hope you keep going down the kdrama rabbit hole (although tangerines kinda is the best of the best). There are so many series out there you guys would enjoy and you really have only hit the tip of the iceberg. Good night and thanks for putting a smile on my face today👍

Tivy

Yes Jack! Well explained. Can’t argue with that haha

Tivy

I love this omg!

maya

AYYY time to lock in omg

Lamya

4 days until the next episode 😌 so close

Anya

If he can do it for anime he can do it for this! 😤

Stephanie

The mother in law actress did a phenomenal job depicting a typical controlling asian MIL. The character she portrayed is really insufferable. Wished I could see more works from her but sadly, this series was her last one. RIP Kang Myung Joo.

Tivy

EXACTLYYY! And honestly after all this show has been through we deserve the extra content lol

mini

youngbeom and geummyeong's final goodbye scene is one of my very favorite scenes in the second half of the show, and i'm so happy you guys got to see it... the acting and the dialogue is so strong (and obviously so depressing) cannon solo reaction is a need!!

Papermaker

Are we ever going to get naruto shippuden opening reactions?

Cielo Eunice

Why am I crying, this is the 100th time I’m watching this. Lol

Tivy

Okay I need to stop replying to all the comments and actually get to watching this lol. Will be back soon!

Anya

Holy shibal no show has ever been this cursed before so I say we deserve it 😂

Anya

Everyone is so passionate about this episode. 😂 I like reading all the different perspectives whether you agree or not.

Cielo Eunice

yeongbeom is goated too, not his fault he was born into that disgusting family. and let’s not compare him to gwan-sik because it’s a different generation! Bottomline he loved GeumMyeong soooo much. He did everything he could. They both loved each other.. it was just not a fated pair, they weren’t meant to be

Anya

No you come back! Who am I going to talk to now? 😞

Anya

Great comments Tivy!! We love Yeong-beom but his inaction and staying quiet is what cost him his chance at happiness!

Suhaila Reigns

Day 10 of asking for Bloodhounds season 2

Tivy

Real! I’m liking all the comments, even the ones I don’t fully agree with. Everyone is making such great points I can’t help it 😅

Tivy

I will be back very soon 😉

Tivy

Yesss thank you Anya! 🫶

Anya

You're such a great friend! I'm just playin tho so take your time I'm going out TGIF haha so have a great weekend Tivy!! Borahae 💜🫰

Rainbow Lynn

Am i asking too much for wanting to see Cannon react to this episode??🙏 Especially after how he reacted to previous eps

Hannah Lee

At the time (and to some extent still today), marriage in Korea was often seen as a union between families rather than just individuals. The fact that the guy’s father was a vice minister in a government department meant that he could typically have been matched with the daughter of a conglomerates' relatives or influential family. That likely made the opposition even stronger. Especially if his department was about economy, construction, law... if it was education, welfare, etc, may not.

Hannah Lee

Whenever I watch this episode, I listen IU's "Love wins all". Then my feeling gets better haha. I also feel sorry for Yeong-beom.

Maplecakes

Hope you guys check out Reply 1988 where it has similar vibes but more on the humor side but still has it’s emotional moments

kate

omg yes i really hope they do at some point (maybe once they finish tangerines?? 👀)

Mari

ngl i am living for the heated comments here 😆. Everyone is so tuned in and seeing others perspective also widens mine. When I initially watched this episode, all i felt for yeongbeom was pity. He, unfortunately, has parents who are arrogant. But nonetheless, he did grow up into should a good person. Kinda sucks to have a family like that tho.

Hannah Lee

Young-beom's mom is really good actress. That's all I can say lol. Also, I'm excited for the next episode. It's one of my favorites.

Rainbow Lynn

No, Youngbeom should've defended Geumyeong and Geumyeong's parents more, but he couldn't. Even in the parents' meeting he stays silent and it took Gwansik to urge him. Geumyeong was right, he's nice to everyone, and let the others fight for themselves, not taking risks for himself. Park Toto is different. Koreans kept saying, he defended Geumyeong right away when his GF insulted Geummyeong. Youngbeom on contrast only snatched noodles from Geummyeong's college friend, not able to defend verbally. Yeongbeom marrying to someone his mother wishes proves it. He can't act on his will. He just lets his mother do it for him...

el

The different between Yoengboom and Gwansik is Youngboom is a good son, and Gwansik is a good husband. Yoengboom take no action. And Gwansik take action.

Tivy

37:21 — Ugh it hurts seeing Ae-sun having to hold back her true frustration :( She’s doing it for the sake of Geum-myeong, but I hate seeing our goated mom getting walked all over

floo

Fair enough 🤣😏

czennieluvie

It's so interesting that I've never seen anyone have the perspectives you guys have. I think it's fair to feel bad for Yeongbom and his situation. It is a super cool parallel, as they are completely a product of their upbringing and parents. For me personally, I of course felt bad for Yeongbom but honestly, I felt worse for Geumyoung. I mean they were together for 7 years, she has had his parents, mom in particular, berating her, her family, and everything that matters to her, and due to how Korean culture works, she didn't go against it. Yeongbom, at the end of the day, as Geumyoung says, is a 'sweet son'. The most he ever did to support Geumyoung against the berating was to stand up during the in-law meeting and yell 'stop' every time his mother said something vile to his girlfriend/fiance. She would be marrying into this type of family, one where she would get treated just like her mom, but instead of Gwansik helping flip the table, Yeongbom would continue to say 'stop' and get up to do something for Geumyoung. But from what we've seen, his mother would tell him to sit down, and he would do so, just like how he didn't have the conviction to stay after Ae-sun told him to just sit down. He isn't a bad guy by any means. I feel for him, he is in an impossible situation, but imagining being in Geumyoung's place makes me feel like vomiting with how disgusting it would be, especially due to how important filial piety and respect for elders are so entrenched in Korean society. She and her parents were already getting treated like trash, and she wasn't in their family yet. Again, I do feel so bad for Yeongbom, but it's like the scenario of how you would order the most important people of your life: mother, wife, and daughter. I'm not saying there's a right answer, but most people would put wife and daughter over mother and Yeongbom wasn't and wouldn't do that for Geumyoung

czennieluvie

Sorry for the long message, I just got so invested in the comments and reaction discourse!

yearlywise

3 am and school’s absolutely destroying both my meal and sleep schedule but!!! It’s ok I have gek reactions to keep me alive

yearlywise

Beyond the debate going on the comments, god. Geummyoung’s one line during their breakup still gets me. “Of course I like you, but I like me too.” It’s such a simple and yet obvious fact, but I haven’t been able to prioritize myself in the same way in my own relationships. I hope I can like myself the way she does some day.

Rebecca

Carter constantly looking at the camera makes me feel like Im watching the office lmao

Mona

Gosh this was tough to watch. Literally shaking out of frustration from Geum Myeong and Aesun holding back and fighting with each other and yes very sad for Yeong beom he was so sweet he couldn’t flip the table for her. He couldn’t cut off his family and he couldn’t let go of Geum myeong. Really he didn’t want to hurt anyone but ended hurting the most at the end. 😭 they’re all such good actors Also RIP to yeong beom’s mom actress, Kang Myung Joo, she died of breast cancer on feb 27, 2025. This was her last kdrama. I don’t think she got to see the rest of the show while it was still airing. 😔

Mona

With V from BTS!!! 🤩

Rebecca

Wow, i can't believe that. She was so young

Mona

Cannon please!!! Defend your boy Yeong beom!!

Mona

Yes she was 54! Such a good actress.

Tivy

I finally finished the reaction, and I think I realized the reason why some people were so quick to react to you guys feeling bad for Yeong-beom comes from a similar place as earlier episodes, when some viewers felt like Ae-sun was being misunderstood while Gwan-sik was being praised. I don’t think you guys misunderstand Geum-myeong at all — you clearly got why she ended things and you weren’t blaming her for choosing herself. But I do think, as men, you might naturally connect a bit more with the male character’s pain, while a lot of women watching connect more immediately with Geum-myeong’s frustration and exhaustion. To us, it’s not just “he loved her and got dealt a bad hand,” it’s also seven years of her enduring his family, his mom disrespecting her and her parents, and him only ever pushing back in small ways without truly choosing her when it mattered. So I think some people may have taken your sympathy as you walking back the valid criticism of him, even though that’s not at all what you meant. You clearly felt awful for both of them, not JUST Yeong-beom, which I think some people ignored. Both can be true: Yeong-beom is tragic and worth feeling bad for, but Geum-myeong still owed him nothing, and leaving him was the right choice.

Mona

Guys i’m not trying to make the same joke again… but the camera was out off focus the whole time lol like that luffy looking extra crispy HD 4K etc and u guys blurry 😔 so ig i didn’t see ur tears. Unless i’m going blind or yall are tricking me and nobody has noticed/ mentioned it lol.

Hannah Lee

I really like your reaction videos.

Mona

Its 12:57am and i just finished watching 🤓

Rebecca

My friend's in the process of getting married right now but she had to go through it too throughout her whole relationship. Luckily the MIL is in Korea now and they're gonna travel to do a wedding there, but they'll primarily live in the US, with a timezone to keep some boundaries lol

Carter D. Andrus

See I think you’re right. I just think it’s crazy to paint him as some bad guy, and at the end of the day regardless of who you feel more bad for you feel bad for them both

Mona

Yeah thats a bar. I’m taking notes from her while McKay taking pick up lines from Mr. Toto. 😭

Tivy

This is just me offering some perspective! Your guys thoughts and feelings are so true, and I don’t think they’re uncommon either. I just think people misunderstood where you were coming from.

Carter D. Andrus

The whole point that we’re making is that he’s a product of his mom and that it’s really sad

Mona

Ngl im hella biased I prefer Yeong beom’s actor > Toto 😭 him and IU looked so good together.

Rebecca

nah i love that starved artist look lmaooo

Mona

My first time reacting to this eps i was on Geum Myeong’s side of the story. I think because i can relate to her the most out of all the characters being the eldest daughter of a immigrant family. I can’t see myself marrying into a family that will steal me from my parents or a family that will treat my parents wrong. Not that i ignored Yeong beom’s character but seeing it with you guys (also cuz this is like my 5th time watching this ep lol) i sympathize with him more like she said he’s really just a sweet guy, but being nice to everyone wasn’t going to work out in this situation. Especially being raised by his mother, the same way Geum Myeong was raised to stand up for herself, Yeong beom was raised to respect and obey his mother. So it was really a tense dynamic.

Mona

😭noo i couldn’t recognize him at first what the helly where did his dimples go

Tivy

same Rebecca lollll

Mona

Guys Yeong Beom was just a soft boy and his mom was tiger ok. 😔

Rebecca

honestly it's crazy how different he looks but RAHH give it to me hahaha

Mona

😤this episode was so intense i almost forgot i was mad at yall for posting late. Lol just kidding lowkey.

Mona

🤣🤣

Mona

HAHAH ME. its ok tho 🫂

Mona

I agree with u. But is kinda random to ask in this post.

Mona

Unless we get another joke from the universe.

Mona

OKAY CARTER. 😅 jk go off! I love that ur invested

Tivy

Yeong-beom and Geum-myeong are the definition of “love isn’t enough.” They loved each other, but love without action, without choosing each other when it matters, just isn’t enough to sustain a relationship. You can care for someone deeply and still not be right for each other. It’s so sad, but I’m happy they chose to discuss it. Not everyone ends up with their first love like Ae-sun 🤷‍♀️

Tivy

I love when Ae-sun tells Yeong-beom’s mom she may have lifted the boulder off her own chest, but she placed it onto her son’s. It’s such a perfect way to sum up the damage she caused. She thought she was protecting him by pushing him toward wealth and status, but really she was just forcing her own pride and expectations onto his life. And the flash-forward shows that she technically gets what she wanted (he marries into the “right” kind of family) but Yeong-beom is miserable, distant from her, and full of regret. She was the only one smiling at his wedding. As sad as it is, it’s also satisfying to see that she couldn’t escape the consequences either. She ruined his happiness trying to control his life, and ended up trapped in that misery right along with him.

Mona

I’ll forgive u if u tear up the next eps 🥹

Mona

This was the perfect ragebait episode for him lol

Tivy

I genuinely loved the post-discussion you guys had for this! Some of the comments had me thinking you were about to glaze Yeong-beom for 20 minutes, but nah you touched on everything. You have a great understanding of the episode, it just seems like you naturally empathized a bit more with Yeong-beom, while many others leaned more toward Geum-myeong. But that doesn’t mean we don’t all feel bad for both of them lol, it’s just a difference in perspective. Anyways thank you for the great reaction and discussion, see everyone back here next week! 🍊

Rubyjane

wow, what an episode. Loved the discussion

I’m gonna go insane 💀

Korean here! Honestly I don’t think the collective stance on marriages has shifted all that much lol… like although ppl like Youngbeom’s mom are most certainly on the extreme side, the general sentiment about economically “similar” families forming a union through marriage is relatively intact. I think part of the reason your empathy for Youngbeom got so much pushback from the comments this week is bc a lot of us (esp those of us from Asian cultures) have experienced firsthand how men like him have hurt their partners by refusing to meaningfully stand up for them. Personally, I *do* understand where he’s coming from and he does have my sympathy re: how he was raised and just how much his mom did a number on his priorities, but I still don’t think he handled the marriage process very well :/ the fact that Geummyoung endured his fam’s disrespect for as long as she did is a testament to the strength of her love for him. I always enjoy you guys’ reactions !! This is probably the second time I’ve mentioned this buuuuut if you ever want to branch out into the sageuk (period drama) world in the future, I highly recommend Mr Sunshine as a starting point! It’s not a traditional sageuk by any means but the cinematography is top notch, the actors are goated, and imo it’s the best show Kim Eunsook has ever written (other stuff she’s done include Descendants of the Sun, Goblin, and The Glory)

Rubyjane

me too, i was afraid to start watching it.

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

Don’t joke like that unless you actually intend to do it 🙈 The Tangerines’ audience are already suffering enough as it is. We only get one episode a week, no matter how much we beg for two, and now instead of giving us a double upload after a couple of days’ delay, we got a reaction without you 😩

Noha⁷

i don't like him, i just can't get over the fact he has NO backbone

Mayma

Pleaaaaaaaaaase

Noha⁷

i don't like yeong-beom at all. i think he's a joke and if i hear him say eomma one more time i swear

s/k

I agree. He tried to fight for their love and wanted the relationship to work, but he wasn’t brave enough to stand up for her. His mother controlled his life, prioritizing her own wishes over his happiness—and in the end, it cost him everything and left his mother miserable for the rest of her life. He’s a tragic character, shaped by his upbringing but never able to rise above it.

Rainbow Lynn

Yeah I get it too 😢. He lived his whole childhood with a mom like that, like he forever owes his mom. So when the moment arrives where he should defend himself or other ppl, he can't. Even when Geummyeong AND Aesun defended him, that that's his life, he can't outlive it 😢

Rainbow Lynn

We feel for that too. Too bad that when other characters, like Aesun and Geummyeong defend Youngbeom, in front of his Mom and Him, basically saying "you're gonna make your son's life miserable", "it's Youngbeom's life not yours". A year of breaking up, with Geummyeong telling him to stand up for himself. Yet Youngbeom still fails to see that and let Mom lead for him for decades more, and yeah it's sad... Geummyeong tried to put sense on him for yearssss, but in the end he's still beyond saving. He still asked "what should I do" while breaking up.

Noha⁷

my opinion on yeong-beom might be harsh but i feel like i can kinda relate. even though his mum is on the extreme side, i can definitely understand the overbearingness that yeong-beom experiences to a degree (im coming from an african culture rather than an asian one but i do think there's similarities). but i really can't get over how he NEVER stood up and even backed up Geum-myeong once. like all he said was eomma. I think he's naturally a soft and nice person so he would struggle to pushback but the constant disrespect that geum-myeong, gwansik and aesun was going through was hard to see. That scene at the dinner table just cemented how much i dislike him. even gwansik was telling him to stand up and would it have really killed him to spoon the damn rice.

Rainbow Lynn

Saying "if you die, then I die" loudly in front of hospital staffs, who works daily to keep people alive is... Crazy. He should be more considerate on his surroundings. Screaming his heart out while Geummyeong needs resting...

Daniella

Ah i call this the ragebait episode of the show, I don't even think i can watch this in full again honestly, i've never wanted to whoop someone so badly as yeong-beom's mother. Such an evil witch of a woman but amazing acting to get everyone this triggered

Daniella

This is the first time i cried over a break-up scene, like i really felt how sad it is knowing you're saying goodbye to someone who you thought would be in your life forever, it hurt when Geum-myeong said he was her best friend. I felt so bad for Yeong-beom like that's his family at the end of the day despite his mother being such a rat. But i do agree with the comments saying he never really stuck up for Geum-myeong, he's a very nice guy but you can't make everyone happy and he needed to deal it with that appropriately rather than trying to accomodate because in actuality everyone is uncomfortable. But again it's a hard situation, and as we saw in the future he continued to accomodate for his mother's terrible behaviour until he was truly miserable.

Daniella

Oh i didn't know that! RIP to her she truly was incredible for her last work 😢

Of course, these days it’s generally accepted that choosing who to marry is entirely up to the individuals involved. Still, Korean society has long been influenced by Confucian values, with a strong emphasis on being dutiful&devoted to parents, family lineage, and patriarchal family structures. Because those traditions have such deep roots, things have changed over time, but probably not as quickly as in more individualistic places like the U.S. Also, the strong family-centered mindset you see across a lot of Asian cultures is still very much there. When it works in a positive way, it can be really supportive like the relationship between Aesun and Geummyeong. But when it goes too far, it can turn into something like Yeongbeom’s mom’s attitude, where it’s basically “your life is my life,” and that starts to override personal choice. This kind of dynamic can be even stronger when money is involved, since financial power can make it easier to control someone’s decisions. Since the world has changed, if someone’s mom act like that in 2026, he has to be the son of Samsung. But in 1990s, well it’s kinda common to have ppl like Yeongbeom’s mom, provided that there's classism gap.

Hopefully not my friend...(finger's crossed)

PLEAAAASE CANNON

Tivy

As much as I’ve been commenting about how I feel for Yeong-beom, mannn do I relate to Geum-myeong here. If someone who was supposed to be my future life partner just sat there while his mom shamelessly disrespected me and my family to my face, and all he could manage was snapping a couple times and saying a weak “eomma” every few seconds, I’d be like, “Bro what are you doing? Defend me!” 😭 She’s honestly better than me because I would’ve lost it. I’m glad he loved her, and I do think he’s a nice guy despite how he was raised, but love alone is not going to cut it if you can’t actually stand up for the person you’re choosing to build a life with.

Rainbow Lynn

Idk but something tells me that Youngbeom loves Geummyeong only for himself, not for Geummyeong too. Yeah it's due to his upbringing. Geummyeong protested numerous times, for him to fight for her esp when his mom insulted GY and her family over and over again, yet Youngbeom's replies are only "do you have to say that", "have you tried living with me", like it's just about him and his feelings. He keeps ignoring the main issue.

Anya

I think people are more upset with Yeong-beom because he's the one standing still. Yeong-beom and Geum-myeong were together for seven years. A year passed after that dinner debacle and nothing changed! She became a different person around his mom and her parents stayed quiet and endured her constant disrespect and condescending attitude. That's not okay! She loved him sm but broke up with him because she loved and respected herself too. Yes his mom is shitty but Yeong-beom is ultimately responsible for his inaction. It's not gonna be easy but "nothing worth fighting for is easy"! He stood still and was afraid to fight back which is sad. Let me be clear he is not a villain! It is okay to feel bad for him! He represents a tragic and flawed character who couldn't break free from his chains and got a shitty ending. The writers did a phenomenal job highlighting the challenges of class and filial piety. Yeong-beom's character acts as a parallel to Gwan-sik on how similar love can have different outcomes due to the inability to challenge and break free from societal expectations. That's why this show is so good because it's so realistic and many can resonate with it!

Anya

I swear we fighting once we get outside

Anya

They're seriously missing out!

Anya

gahdamn Noha 😭

Anya

Yeong-beom > Picasso 🫣

Tivy

FOR REAL like I’m smiling now but I won’t be later just you wait 😃🙂

Tivy

I 100% agree with you Anya, you explained both sides perfectly. I’m glad the Geks at least understood Geum-myeong and didn’t blame her for choosing herself, because that would’ve been missing the point. I do think though that as a group of guys watching, they maybe naturally empathized a little more with Yeong-beom’s side of the tragedy? Just a thought since the Geks have mentioned previously relating closer to characters as men. Either way, the writers did an amazing job!

Anya

Yeah I don't see it as a gender thing. I would say the same thing if the roles were reversed. I didn't like how Ae-sun treated Gwan-sik harshly when they were young and now I don't like how Yeong-beom is not standing up for Geum-myeong. I empathize more with whoever is being treated shitty. No one is right or wrong in the comments we all just think differently and that's okay as long as we're being respectful.

Anya

Smiling with crazy eyes mhm just you wait 😃

Anya

We need IU Killing Voice & Love wins all after this watch! We need some brightness!

Tivy

Totally fair, I get what you mean. I don’t think it’s only a gender thing either, and I agree that it ultimately comes down to who’s being treated unfairly. I just meant it more in the same way the Geks themselves said earlier that they related to Gwan-sik more as men, so I wondered if a similar thing might be happening here where they naturally felt Yeong-beom’s tragedy a little more deeply. Not that men can’t understand Geum-myeong or women can’t feel for Yeong-beom, because obviously both are true. Sociologically I just think sometimes lived perspective can make certain parts hit differently for different viewers. But yeah I fully agree that no one is really “right” or “wrong” here as long as people are being respectful lol

Tivy

LMAO

Noha⁷

ok reading the comments i do look like a hater 😂 but i did try to see his side initially but he just never really developed as time went on so i just ended up disliking him. but i do love the actor

I think that bit was lost in translation for u lol. In Korean that scene + the nurse’s reaction is really funny LMAO

Miitei

He is going to crash out so bad lol

Miitei

Yeong-beom is really a tragic character. I know a lot of people hate him for not standing up to his mother and I've seen the comparison with Guan sik, the thing is his upbringing compared to Guan sik is different. His mother is such a narcissist she even call her own child her "masterpiece" what parent call their child like that unironically??? The poor guy doesn't really knows how to stand up to her, I've seen with my own eyes how difficult is to get away from a relationship based in control and Yeong beom was literally born in one with his narcissist of a mother. I feel bad for both of them, but Yeong beom definitely deserved better for his future.

aicrylic

imagining cannon watching this episode on his own is so funny

DonDuh103

Dude Cannon would have lost his mind this episode! He should give us a solo upload if possible if he hasn’t already watched it.

DonDuh103

The Korean culture is crazy I wonder if it’s still like this? Also that definitely was the kill shot! Hit her so hard it made her son’s future a cannon event! Unchangeable🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

DonDuh103

Ae-sun hit her with a poetic bullet that made Yeom Byeong mother cause her son's future an unchangeable canon event😭😂😭

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

Is there a reason for using a reboot version of My Love by My Side. I hope so🥲 Okay I guess I was a bit too impatient😆

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

My cortisol was about medium at its highest but maybe I'm too used to these Korean family inequalities through k-dramas. Okay I take it back damn it🧘‍♂️

Kids owe absolutely nothing to their parents. If I ever get kids I will try my hardest to remember this always.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

Funny you said Rebecca. Clearly that is her name but it is also funnily a bit of a reference to Welcome to Waikiki where Kim Seon Ho acts😆

Hannah Lee

Probably still not as much as in S.K though. That's for sure.

Hannah Lee

I think Youngbeom was a very realistic and well-written character. He grew up under his mother’s overprotection, and because of that, he never really learned how to express his emotions in a healthy way. That’s probably why his feelings often came out in bursts, and he could come across as inconsiderate at times. At his core, though, he seemed like a gentle and sensitive person. He likely grew up obediently following his mother’s wishes, and only began to develop his own sense of self through the relationship in college. But at the same time, he didn’t seem like someone who could completely break away from the way he was raised. Personally, I also feel sorry for his son. Growing up with parents who didn’t get along, he had plenty of toys, but must not have much time with either parent. It seemed like the kind of environment where a child is materially provided for, but emotionally neglected.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

Very original looking top 3😆 Well it's all a matter of preference anyway🤝 I think Tangerines might be going to my top 3 or at least 5 but My Mister felt a bit like nothing. The car was funny though. And not a bad show but it wasn't meant for me I guess.

Rainbow Lynn

I love the nurse's cameo! That situation is funny and annoying at the same time to me. Sick people were resting in that room too.

Bob

nah its just uneducated mother in laws getting power trips cause they didnt get the opportunities the younger woman is getting.

Surrey96

Nah, Yeong-bum barely even tried. It's his own fault. He didn't stand up to his mom or fight for his girl - just a weak “mom, stop, blah blah…” and that was it. Even Gwan-sik's mom wasn't even that rude

Surrey96

Nah, Yeong-bum barely even tried. It's his fault. Didn’t stand up to his mom or fight for his girl - just a weak “mom, stop blah blah…” and that was it. If a guy won’t stand up for you before marriage, that’s a red flag. Better to walk away, cus it won't get any better

gaby

what culture are you talking about. the pre marriage preparations?

Noha⁷

you'd be surprised. this happens in a lot more cultures than you think. it might seem crazy from your perspective (im guessing you're coming from a more western culture where they tend to have more individualistic valves sorry if im wrong) but I always think it's more nuanced than that.

Noha⁷

still haven't watched FoE yet, i have not got ball knowledge 😔

el

Yes. It really depends on personal taste. For me, My Mister stands out because it's the deepest drama I've ever watched, honestly even deeper than when life gives you tangerine.

Andrew Sung

There is always going to be a culture difference between our Gek fam and Koreans. They don't judge nor do we (as a Korean), but at the least we can represent other opinions and ideas. This community of speaking your mind and thoughts, without judgement or contempt is why I love this community. Love the Tangerine watch, LIETERALLY waiting every Wednesday. Thank you everyone and Gek for the amazing times always.

Andrew Sung

I always wanted to say that the entire time they were saying "difference in class", though that is so true in this situation, someone who is a part of said "class" (aka the son), still trying to be with her and fix the issues without really "trying", in the sense of understanding her situation and acting upon those issues, really isn't much different then saying "I love you" but not really willing to love the person and adapt accordingly. He tried, for sure, but only because he realized that something was wrong cause clearly how his parents are treating him and his fiancé is clearly wrong, but in Korea at that time, that was how it was. The men of the family had every right to treat and approach the wife's family in that manner, that they had a "one up" on them because they were taking the wife form her family to theirs. In 2026 we clearly see that that is not true and wrong in the sense that Korean's were applying.

Deji Jan

which is why she’s saying he’s a gentle child or something. like he’s actually a very nice person, and naive the way a child is, but not mature and strong enough to show up where it matters, so in the end he ends up hurting everyone

Deji Jan

when ae sun gave her daughter the full bowl of food, i started crying and just never stopped for the rest of this episode lol @25:20 another thing, ae sun and gwan shik kept saying they didn’t really talk back to the boy’s parents bc they didn’t want to ruin their daughter’s chances at this marriage or give that family another reason to treat her horribly during the marriage, it’s obviously real, but i also felt like they got intimidated by them, by the class difference. like the way gwan shik shook the other father’s hands, with BOTH his hands, and one hand underneath his. almost unconsciously, like he knew his ‘place’

Rebecca

I think it’s the added bonus of it being during every awkward moment lmao

Hannah Lee

Just one thing, he used the both hands to cover his injured finger not because of his place. That was his consideration not to embarrass people. Now people tends to reveal their disability or scars more freely, but it wasn't at that time.

Clay

Gots to do it

Clay

This was for sure the most realistic and heart wrenching break up I’ve ever seen on TV

Anya

Well said I agree!

Anya

Noha you have to watch it I love Flower of Evil!!!

Noha⁷

I will! It’s on my list

KimmyKim

Life goes on for the living, and Yeong Beom died that dayy😭

KimmyKim

I love how this was a good flip side to the motherly devotion we've seen throughout the show so far. Same theme, but flipped with Yeong-Beom's mom showing how dark that devotion can get. Also completely unrelated, but Carter gets more Bradlynn-coded everyday and I love to see it! ☺️

DonDuh103

I don’t think it’s like crazy bad thing. But just the fact that Ae-sun family has to basically be treated like dirt just due to the other mother where maybe most of the time these type of marital cultures don’t have bad blood to each other and it’s more happy and exciting. Also yes im from America so not familiar with how is gos in other countries.

Noha⁷

no of course in this case the way geum-myeong and everyone gets treated is just shitty and disgusting. most of the time it's a super fun and happy event but sometimes this could be the consequence because of how the culture is. (i dont think i explained that great but hopefully you kinda get what i mean)

May Lin

I am not Korean, but coming from an East Asian background, I can confirm some of our older generations actually prefer male over female, to the extent that daughter-in-laws and the youngest female children are usually last to eat at a family gathering. These days, it’s not as common, but for my parents generation, and during my early childhood, I was always told to not eat until everyone else has taken a bite being the youngest of the family (based on seniority and also being a female member). It pains me to say this, but I don’t think this is at all exaggerated, especially for the 1990s. It might come as a major cultural shock, but it is sadly true. Obviously, not all families are like this, but it’s also not uncommon.

DonDuh103

Thanks for the context makes more sense.

25:00 — “She went through the same things and still found love and happiness.” Yes, but you’re missing one important thing, Jack: not every man deserves a girl who has to “go through all that” because of him. Gwan-sik is a very rare case! 26:10 I don’t get how “they are making this show in Korea” and “they made it like this on purpose” are connected. What were you trying to say, Carter? But it was funny watching you guys writhing in agony (metaphorically speaking) during the pre-wedding meeting 😅😅

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

When McKay grabbed the sword at 37:58, I couldn’t help but burst out laughing 😂😂😂😂 And when Carter said “Cortisol is through the roof” at 39:03 — that sent me hahaha

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

29:40 — “Honestly, I feel so bad for him.” My first reaction to this was anger, to be honest. But I cooled down and remembered that from the start you tend to understand the guy’s perspective first (which is understandable, given that you’re male). I will still share all the notes I made throughout this whole wedding situation, but my emotions will change a bit in the process. I don’t get “I feel so bad for him” at that particular moment of the episode, because Geum-myeong is the one the audience should feel bad for the most. She’s the one who was humiliated and disrespected countless times by his parents. “He’s stuck between a rock and a hard place.” — Sorry, but if you can’t act like a grown man and protect your girlfriend/future wife — even from your parents — you shouldn’t be getting married. Be a “rock” somewhere else. And “he tried” is a lame excuse. He didn’t try hard enough if this behavior continued after all those years of dating. 30:52 — “You didn’t mess up, bro.” Seriously? Is your bar for men THAT low, McKay? I’m surprised — and not in a good way 😔 But you probably just have more sympathy for men than I do, and that’s fair. Am I the only one who thinks this? (After reading the comment section: thank God I wasn’t alone on this take — it was actually a pretty popular one!) The boyfriend needs to grow a spine and stop being just a “sweet boy,” because everyone around him uses that as an excuse for him to tolerate his family’s horrible behavior. I know respect for parents is a big thing in Korea, but there have to be limits. P.S. Okay, he did more in the scene at his apartment when his mother broke in. But I still think Geum-myeong is in a much more difficult position, and she tolerated all of this shit for far too long. That said, I did feel sorry for him when his unhinged, narcissistic mother shouted: “You owe 80% of your life to me. You are my pride! My life!” People like that shouldn’t have children at all 🙈 That flash-forward scene was both satisfying and depressing at the same time.

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

I’m honestly glad Geum-myeong and her first boyfriend didn’t get married after all. It obviously sucks for him, yes, but she definitely would have had a miserable life if that wedding had happened. His parents wouldn’t have changed, and it would’ve been ongoing hell — and eventually their love would’ve faded, leaving nothing behind. I totally agree with Geum-myeong’s words after their breakup: “Everyone is unhappy and frustrated while you keep acting nice.” And when she later said, “I do love you deeply. But I love myself deeply too.” — I gave a standing ovation! That’s the healthiest approach to life, in my opinion. I was glad, but I was still crying during the last scene. It was heartbreaking… 💔 He’s not a bad guy at all, but he’s weak, unfortunately. And it cost him the love of his life. Honestly, this was the hardest episode for me to watch — even harder than episode 6. Because there, it was an accident, but here it was all the result of people consciously choosing to be cruel. And yeah, it’s a harsh reality that sometimes love between two young people just isn’t enough…

Taanvi Garg

I've been an OG studio gek fan since your attack on titan reactions haha! I'm so glad you're enjoying this show. I bet you have a lineup of other reactions lined up but I just wanted to comment some recommendations that I know all of you would like based on your likes so far. For cinema gek, future kdramas I think you'd like are: TWINKLING WATERMELON: This is an excellent next watch, especially after this emotionally charged series. It's light, funny, interesting and has a great plot line. The first episode might be a bit confusing but it gets really really good from episode 2. It's a slice of life slash time travel plot, with disability rep, great music, action, mystery and a romance subplot. It has Weak Hero baku and suho's actors starring as the main characters, and it really focuses on the relationship between a son and father, and the plot is adjacent to back to the future vibes! STUDY GROUP: This is a total crack kdrama. It's focused on action and friendship. It has really out of this world overpowered action sequences, which almost seem supernatural because of how unrealistic they are but that's what makes it HILARIOUS. Think of this like Weak Hero class, if there was no angst. This would also be a great next watch coming down from something like When Life gives you tangerines. I think you'd be just laughing at how wholesome and silly the main characters are in this! For cinema gek, Bollywood reactions: ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA: Roughly translates to "You won't get to live twice", I think this is a great watch considering your last Bollywood reaction was Dhurandhar which was so bloody and gory. ZNMD is a movie centred around three friends who go to Europe on a life changing Bachelors trip. It has AMAZING humor, a great plot line for each friend, a romance subplot but it's mostly focused on self discovery and the trio's friendship. It's a REALLY FUN watch, and one of the most popular and beloved Bollywood movies out there. For K-POP gek, I think it's high time you check out some popular titles by IU, who is the actress playing both Ae-sun and Geum-young. She's crazyyyyy talented in acting, and also a fabulous K-pop artist, with one of the most consistently successful and large discography in the scene. Would HIGHLY recommend her as the next watch for that channel! I want to do a shameless plug and also request Stray Kids - I think you'd guys would enjoy their recent music videos titled DO IT and DIVINE (both have music videos!). I personally also love the bsides DOMINO, VENOM, and FREEZE (all of these have super cool music videos). I would be soooo happy if you could react to that too hehe❤

Taanvi Garg

I think the key difference between the two couples Aesun/Gwanshik and Geumyoung/Yeongyeom boils down to the both the gendered counterparts and generational differences reflected in their relationships. For the males, Gwankshik is a rare gem of a man, who did stand up for his future wife in the most difficult situations consistently. He did revolutionary things, like sitting at the women's table, always putting his wife and kids first, even at the expense of his family. He showed his unconditional love through actions, not just words. Meanwhile, Yeongyum was, as Geumyoung said "just a sweet boy". He was unfailingly nice but that made him painfully neutral. He consistently failed to support Geumyoung or protect her from her mother-in-law's cruelty. His attempts to defend her were half hearted at best, like saying "Mother!" but not really following that with a reprimand or explicit instruction to leave/stop, and clearly any attempt he made was not effective because Geumyoung continued to suffer throughout the two years she was engaged to him. He wanted to be nice, both to his mother, and his fiancée, but that wishy washy sentiment did more harm and only frustrated both women. And although he did say in the end that he would cut off his family, he came to this decision too late and only due to the fact that Geumyoung was going to finally break it off with him. He didn't reach this decision from the get go, like Gwankshik, and while he did love Geumyoung with the same passion as Gwankshik loved Aesun, he failed to embody that "Steelheart" persona, i.e. he could not provide Geumyoung with stability or support or be her "rock". Geumyoung would be fighting the battle all on her own. The second difference was in the women. Aesun had no one. She was orphaned at 10, and really had no adult to support her or show her love (her uncle, stepdad, grandmother - all had been harsh to her while she grew up). She soon realised that the only one to show her unconditional love and support was Gwankshik, and thus, it makes sense why she latched on to him, despite his prejudiced family. Besides, with the way Gwankshik had always been unfailingly strong and on her side, she knew she could weather any storm. HOWEVER. Geumyoung grew up very differently. She was shown love and support since birth by both her parents. While they may not be rich, they never failed to give her everything and more. Growing up so beloved and even going to college and being a working woman, gave Geumyoung a much higher self esteem and a much greater financial independence than Aesun ever had. She didn't need Yeongyum the way Aesun needed Gwankshik for survival. Geumyoung simply wanted him and loved him, and wished to marry him, but when push came to shove, and the mother-in-law refused to correct her ways, even going so far as to treat Geumyoung's mother in such a harsh manner, Geumyoung decided to choose herself over love. Aesun would have never done this, because she was never taught to love yourself the way Geumyoung was taught. Geumyoung's choice may seem painful, and even hard to understand, but she ultimately chose the healthiest thing for herself. Like she says to Yeongyum's mum, "this is his life!", this too is HER life. She cannot spend it in a family where she is ostracised, hated, belittled and abused. No matter how much Yeongyum loves her, SHE loves HERSELF too much to intentionally put herself in this scenario. This is the essence of what her parents taught her.

The thing to think about with Yeongbeom is that yes! He's a great guy and yes, he loves Guem, and she loves him. But he only chased her down and realized he needed to change after she officially broke up with him. He raised his voice at his mother, but still ended up letting his mom yell and belittle her and her parents. He only stood up to ladle the rice soup after Gwansik egged him to stand up. Let his mother call her hometown and its customs embarrassing. He knew that his mother would try to pick a fight with Aesun at that dinner, yet still didn't say anything strong enough to his mom for her to back down. This fight with the mother-in-law was just the final straw, unfortunately, for Guem. After you put up with so much, you have to realize you need to take a step back and stop letting yourself get hurt from hoping that things would have magically been different by that point.

I feel like jumping from 2025 to 1994 like that is a pretty witty way to show the time shift. They start with the 2021 remake of My Love By My Side by Davichi, then switch to the original version(1991) as the timeline goes back. It’s like a fun detail for the viewers who were watching in 2025.

he’s absolutely NOT the villain at all! and honestly the audience is definitely meant to feel bad for him. the tragedy/sad reality of it is that sometimes love alone just isn’t enough to sustain a relationship, it’s so much more complex than that

Unfortunately it's gonna be tomorrow the 12 episodes..

I don't think him pursuing her for one year after she broke up with him was goated at all.....if anything that was a huge red flag

Damn, I cried watching their breakup. It hits way too close to home - I know exactly how they feel. Sometimes you can love someone deeply and truly want to be with them, but it still just doesn’t work out. He’s a great guy, and I honestly don’t understand people who try to say otherwise. It’s simply impossible for both of them to be happy in the situation they’re in

You guys should watch Twinkling Watermelon. Suho and Baku are in it. And it's not the typical depressing story. There is sadness here and there but mostly happy vibes.

Yeah, I noticed that he was indifferent just like his father. He said nothing at the dinner table and only barked once for them to pipe down while they were arguing in the car. He was never decisive or displayed any personal principles that he adhered to like any of the other men in the show, not just gwang-sik. In similar ways, both father and son only cared about their own comfort and demanded harmony rather than nurtured it.
