The entire point of Hordys "nothing" is that he isnt justified... If hordy had any sort of justification then that just means humans are ultimately wrong. But that isnt true. Both sides have people who are just bad and are continuing the issues on their own.

I still really appreciate how Oda chose to represent this type of.... mindset with Hody. I know he's not a popular character or villain but I think they nailed it with him. To me he is well written, for what he represents

Great end discussion! I liked your comments about not allowing yourself to sit in negative emotions, even if you are in the right. I think that's a difficult thing to master, especially if the offending person is not someone you care about. But at the end of the day, whether it's someone you care about or not, it's better for your own mental well being to set boundaries and stand up for yourself/others but also not let some of these things ruin the rest of your day either. There needs to be a balance. Again not always easy to do!

Guys just watch the Remake if you want...I think a lot of people are against it because it does cut a lot of details but why not watch at least one episode... beware once you see the new animation it's kind of hard to go back to the old animation. On a side note you guys are lucky to have options, I mean I caught up with one piece when this arc began and had to wait every week for an episode. Fishmen Island is the the first remake due to how bad the pacing is, if am not mistaken this is when the anime caught up with the manga.

To me, Hody is a great representation of blind inherited hatred, which makes him a somewhat tragic villain. Hatred begets hatred and throughout generations it only becomes more hallow and aimless, and Hody became the "vessel" of that hatred that he himself did not experience. Hody is not a very complex or in-depth character himself, but I think that's the point Oda was going for, that it could have been any random fishman who grew up hearing about all the cruel/evil things humans have done to them for centuries.

Yeah these past 2-3 batches of the FMI Plaza fights are the weakest part of the arc aside from Luffy's Conqueror's, the Strawhats showing off, and some of the thematic dialogue. I do think you guys will enjoy the rest of the arc though, EP 565 onwards has some really great stuff.

I think Fishman Island suffers from being directly after the timeskip, there seems to be an obsession with showing off each straw hats new found strength immediately. It really drags out a lot of these episodes when we cut between 10 characters fighting a punching bag enemy but never getting a conclusion to any of the fights. I understand the need to show the progression but if the straw hats are just leagues above their enemies then why is it taking so many episodes for them to defeat the commanders. The fight started ages ago and not one commander has fallen yet and none of the straw hats have struggled. The material and world building in Fishman is really good but it's dragged down by these drawn out fights that take away from the actual substance.

I'm gonna say this as someone who only knows about Toei's DBZ and OP projects (they obviously had other shows airing), I think we're running into the era of DB Battle of Gods production. So that probably messed with pacing and animation of this arc (and later of course with Resurrection F and DBS). Modern OP only has such good animation now cause the team had a staff change. So a different series director, Toei outsources animators now and they go through a different compositing production team (the fishman island remake look)

The one logical flaw I had in all of fishman island. If noah will fall if that guy dies or passes out.... why is Shirahoshi swimming straight up.... swim at an angle so the boat doesn't fall directly on the island... my goodness.

Anime is a different medium to manga. (Which you like more depends on taste). Some of the best anime were not 100% replica adaptations of the manga. Toei had many different OP directors over the years... this one is definitely not my favorite. Butchered it in my opinion. But the anime industry has really improved so much over the yrs, I am rlly looking forward to the wit remake... but I wonder if they will adjust the music/soundtrack... cuz its one of my favorite things in OP anime.

#1 manga or not depends on taste. Objectively for a story this big Oda has minimal plot holes, consistency, massive world building, story isn't forcefully drawn out, massive character base that doesn't feel forgotten. But theres so much subjective factors that make or break a work (ie. Art, themes, size, humor). Im actually excited for you guys to read some manga in your alone time and discover this massive untapped genre! Personally after 18 years, very few stories stay with me with the same intensity, but I managed to fall in love the more I read/watch OP.

Anyway i love the Prince's speech because it hits on an important aspect of turning a blind eye because they're doing the thing you can't or won't do. Hordy and them are Arlong were literally attacking humans and Jimbei, the royal family, and all normie fishmen were turning a blind eye to it because they also felt hurt and angry could justify their feelings while also keep their moral high ground. Since the fishman district is like the slums basically. This is a world building arc, it's reminding you that everything is not always honky dory it's a continuation of sabaody and arlong park in a way. This arc also sets up story components very well.

Hody is a representation of the end result of all the racism and hate toward humans. They have no reason to hate them, they were not enslaved, discriminated against, hurt in any way by them. They were simply raised from birth to hate them due to the environment they grew up in, the exact thing Otohime was trying to stop, she didn't want the next generation to inherit this prejudice but it was too late they already had.

Didnt seem like an issue in the manga. I truly believe that its mainly the pacing and the art that drags this arc to hell. Even One Pace feels like 0.5x cause even when Toei adapts canon material, it plays in slow motion.
