子供の時は何にも考えずに漫画を読み進めていたけど、大人になると魚人島の出来事は色々と考えさせられるんだよね。 当時、コアラやフィッシャータイガーの過去の出来事は分かりやすくもどかしさを感じていたけど、 「差別」というものはもっともっと根深い問題で、大人になればなるほど解決の仕方さえ思い浮かばない現実世界でも難しい出来事だと分かって来ます。 尾田先生は解決策を示しているわけではなくて、この問題の愚かさを再認識させることと、目指すべき世界の1つの選択肢を示したかったのだと思います。 ノアの方舟や占いの結果をはじめとして、魚人島にはまだまだ謎が多いです。世間では批判する人も多い魚人島編だけど、人が不満や物足りなさを感じる物語の時は大体まだ伏線が残されているのがワンピースです。 きっとまたここに戻って来ると思うので、楽しみに先の行方を待ちましょう！！！

I really love the message of this arc and I really love the conversation in the end pertaining to prejudice and racism. Some people learn to hate others by their parents which is why Otohime says we shouldn't pass our hate to our children. At the end of the day we are human. we make mistakes and sometimes it’s hard to be open minded because we have our own beliefs but I agree with cannon. being close minded is like a curse. I like to believe I'm open minded but I know I have my own beliefs, morals etc. that makes me think one way or another. I believe we should all love one another. We all have the same red blood. I also love the ending of the episode. I remember watching this for the first time and falling more in love with one piece. I cant wait for the next 2 arcs. I hope you guys love it as well.

I absolutely love the narration during the blood transfusion. Hatred and fear has caused so much pain for fishmen and humans, but when we let go of our biases and differences, we remember we all bleed red at the end of the day. It's not like some humans and fishmen will suddenly stop hating each other or the celestial dragons will stop being rats but this blood tranfusion is one small step towards a hope for peace, which is what Otohime and Fisher Tiger died for. Let Oda cook 🙂‍↕️

I always get a little choked up during the blood transfusion scene. It's such a beautiful culmination of the themes of this arc, as well as the journeys the characters have been on to get to this point. I freakin love Jimbei and this scene is such a full circle moment for him. His and Luffy's friendship is everything to me. I can't wait for the next few episodes!!

I would like to clarify something because it seems a lot of people are confused about this, there are sea BEASTS like the one in the beginning who ate shank's arm, like moo-moo or like the ones we've seen on calm belt and all through grand line, and sea KINGS like the ones Shiraoshi summoned, who are are significantly bigger and have a consciousness

dude I hadnt watched that blood transfusion scene since I started one piece yeeeears ago. I forgot how beautiful of a moment it is, I cried so much, might be one of my favorites. I feel like some of the themes of this arc in general really set the tone for the rest of post timeskip, this moment especially.

I think it's pretty realistic that the fishmen hesitated to donate blood, because even if they wanted Luffy to defeat Hody, that doesn’t instantly undo a lifetime of beliefs and social conditioning. Recognizing that humans can be good is one thing, but acting on that by breaking a long-standing taboo is a completely different one. You can also see that it’s only the adults who hesitate, while the children are already willing to help, which shows how much of it is learned over time rather than natural And if Jinbe hadn’t stepped in first I believe someone else would've eventually found the courage to do it, but for plot purpose and for a beautiful bonding moment it had to be Jinbe

It's easy to sit there and say you would give blood in that moment, I really appreciate Cannon's take away from that moment. In that moment could you confidently say that you would be the person to step forward and break a long established taboo? Would you be willing to put yourself out there for someone who has done good but isn't connected to you personally? I think in the moment not a lot of people would. But all it takes is one person to step forward and others will follow as we have seen in history. I also think it's important to note the child that called out his dad for having the same blood. The child that isn't conditioned into the lifelong prejudice saw no issue with donating blood. Very introspective reaction from Cannon.

I agree Jack it’s random. One time 9 years ago, I was at my university’s library at like 3am on the computer level and these dudes were just watching one piece, funnily enough the episode that’ll be in your next batch to post , and it felt random as frick for me. I think it’s odd for us because we got into one piece before it blew up in the west but for the other Geks they just view it as mainstream so they’re playing it down to you lol.

Now we're pretty much at the end of the arc, I can say that I enjoyed it a lot more then I was expecting to. I think a lot of it did have to do with how we got to watch it with One Pace. I thought I'd maybe end up liking 3 moments I remembered, but I actually enjoyed a lot more then that. I really like the blood transfusion scene, that was the first thing I remembered when we got to this arc, it nicely wraps up all the themes of not letting the hate of the past determine the present, just as Otohime was preaching. Also I didn't even remember Red Hawk being in this arc that was such a nice suprise for me too. Where this arc falls short for me are the main antagonists of this arc that are, yes used as vehicles to demonstrate inherited racism, but in that respect we don't/didn't see any of the impact that racism has over Fishmen like we did in Fisher Tigers backstory. I think someone like Tiger would have made a fantastic villain for this arc, but instead we get Whody Jones and the Nobody pirates who are literally just racist drug addicts that hold a grudge for 0 purpose, so how are we meant to give a fuck about them? That mixed with the length of this arc, and the very heavy themes being contrasted with really cringe; perverted humor (mostly Vander Decken) makes this arc one of my least favourites in the entire show. However I'm very much looking forward to the next arc, I'll try not to set expectations but I think besides the classic pacing issues we really get back on track.

This arc definitely gets the brain turning. The message about not having prejudice towards a group based only on the few members of that group is so good. I remember some other reactors mentioned to really take the message to heart we shouldn't say we hate celestial dragons as a group, cause technically there's a chance that at least one of them is good

It was so rare to meet a fan in the wild (heck, even OP wasnt my favorite in the beginning either). The cartoon allegations were so prominent and everybody loved bleach and naruto more

I feel like the fishmen still being on the fence about donating their blood to Luffy is sadly pretty realistic. Despite all the evidence before their eyes that humans can be good, people tend to cling to their fears and prejudices. It's a pretty hard thing to get rid of, especially if you have been targeted so much by that same type of people. But that's what makes the scene with Jimbei stepping up to give his blood so beautiful, he is the one to take the first step to bridge that gap and to show to fishmen a way to a brighter future, a path towards the sun as Oda put it

When the big 3 was going strong OP was treated like the neglected step child in the west (at least in europe). A handful of people saw the light, but gosh, bleach and naruto fans were so high and mighty and obnoxious about it. Now I'm not gonna defend one piece fans either since the tables had turned, but it was rough to even be an anime fan back in the 2000s.
