Lore peak is here🚬

Adder180

The one piece community will be back, I have been lurking a lot more during this arc but the in between arc moments are always peak

Dasha

early peak

Lorenzo

I VOTE YES FOR JACK TO PAUSE ONE PIECE

JT

Fishman just isn’t it for me. It’s hard to even rewatch lol but it’s almost over 🤩

Papa

The community will probably be back after the next arc.

r2d2adam

I’ve been thinking this too, but everyone eventually blind reacting would be Cinema

Spideycain

yeah this arc was trash might be bottom 3 frfr i just like the lore at the end that's it

Xen0n

Very excited to get to the next arc

C2-H5-OH

Prepare youselves for the community flooding back in for the next arcs (Jack help them!!)

C2-H5-OH

This might be controversial, but perhaps you can make a poll of the most looked-forward-to shows you guys are watching and posting, and the winners get a higher drop rate.

C2-H5-OH

Arc rating is pretty normal, but you have got to remember that they are ALL important cumulatively. Every lore drop adds to the previous one, which sounds normal, but then you remember this show has 1136 episodes right now

Mitch

Pissman island is EASILY BOTTOM 3 like not really a debate tbh. No joke this is the only arc so far that I haven’t rewatched will yall because i physically don’t care in the slightest. The only reactions I watched were the fisher tiger backstory (peak fiction)

C2-H5-OH

All I can say about the musical pieces in this show is, well, I'll leave it to Jack to decide

sil 🧸ྀི

it’s not a bottom 3 arc not even bottom 5 tbh

Enma

Jack what episode are you on? If you are still on that same arc, then I would say you should at least finish it since you are very close to the end and then stop. But if you wanted to catch up, I'd say just read the manga (its faster and would be more beneficial in the long run) and wait to watch the anime with the guys.

Zaraiz Khan

"look at your list" - THEN LOOK AT MY LIST lmfaoaoooo cannon not playing i love it

Sasha Ruple

I love parts of Fishman Island, but I'd much rather only ever reread rather than rewatch.

ashton does nothing

THE ONE PIECE COMMUNITY IS REAL ( im sorry im just bad at interacting with posts)

C2-H5-OH

Subs are a bit janky, so quick correction: It's Big Mom, not Big Mam. Big for sure though

C2-H5-OH

Now you know who Joyboy is, and that he was important enough that his apology was carved on a poneglyph. A promise from 800 years ago to make amends

wanira 11

Trust Cannon, you have not yet seen the biggest lore piece by a long shot

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

Jack is on episode 1024... IM SO CONFLICTEDDD! On one hand, I rlllyyyy wanna see jack witness peak for the first time. On the other hand, asking him to wait another 3 years before continuing is crazy... and if he gets spoiled, that would break my heart. 😭 (they're getting harder and harder to avoid).

C2-H5-OH

I see you Cannon, trying to strawman Jack. But alas you forgot that Jack has no enemies

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

FI anime is not my favorite, but im enjoying watching u guys experience it! And personally connecting dots backwards lol (its like an Easter egg hunt). I will die on the hill that OP rewatches always get better the further along

C2-H5-OH

The answer is no, you haven't yet seen the best of lorepiece yet in the animated episodes. As Rayleigh said, it will all make sense one day

Tr3v1nat0r

There is so much lore piece waiting for you guys in the future

Xen0n

not saying this part of the arc is bad

Syllas

A lot of scenes in the anime are stretched out just to fill the time and reach the episode length without catching up too quick to the manga.. One Piece doesn't have many traditional filler episodes.. their "fillers" are the moments when scenes are stretched out much longer than they should be without anything actually happening. This is why they are remaking it, to reduce all those moments where they just filled the time to reach the episode length.

Harrison Hird

i would say the manga definitely still has "slower" sections but they are exadurated a lot by the anime. manga one piece is not paced like aot or vinland partly due to the disparity in length of the series compared to these as u mentioned. but it IS ALOT better than the anime, it flows better and feels alot less jarring and imo falls nicely into the middle ground where it has relaxed/slower paced sections similar to parts of Vinland season 2 where the writing takes its time to breathe rather than come to a complete crawl like in the anime. its made worse by the fact that the scenes toei extends are usually single panels of things oda purposely makes less significant on the page or they are fight scenes that toei pads out with poorly choreographed insignificant moments. As for if the anime "made" the manga i would say the recent explosion in one pieces popularity is due to toei stepping up the animation alot in the last 5 years which just brings more attention to the series. However there can be no doubt that the success of one piece is due to the manga. no other story would be this popular with this toei adaptation. it is massively carried by the source material.

Tj Etgen

Just commenting to show you guys I'm happy to be a part of the journey. I told myself that I would never ever spend money on a patrion since I already pay for youtube. But just watching you guys on there wasn't enough support for how much you guys help better my week so here we are.

sil 🧸ྀི

favorite lorepiece is luffy having roger’s hat 🌝🫶🏻⚡️✨😭

Mal

Cannon makes a great point in the outro about the slop having its place. To answer Carters question the pacing does struggle at points in the manga too but the slop is infinitely shorter, it doesn’t overstay its welcome like it often does in the anime due to the pacing. The balance is so much better and the great stuff shines through even more. The manga is a top 3 manga of all time

Enma

The one piece is a black screen. When looking close at it, you will see nothing but your own image. In the end, we are all the One Piece 🥹🥹 Goatda you did it again

Connor Devoto

Manga is extremely well paced. It gets a bit difficult after you catch up and have to read weekly. Which I did during post Marineford lol

Enma

A chunk of the community will return by the next arc, and then the rest will follow in the arc after.

J3

Unpopular opinion but I think the Geks should revert back to the old schedule hence why the op community have been slacking on these posts!

Harrison Hird

imo Cannon is right but id add a little more. I think the reason one piece is able to have such slow moments and still have such high highs is partly like cannon mentioned because the contrast actualy makes them feel more significant but also its all about how oda structures his writing. Oda writes one piece for the BIG moments he is much more focused on hitting a home run in the climax of arcs and in the big story moments than he is on having a consistent story, this is why people say that WHEN ONE PIECE PEAKS it peaks the highest. Oda has always poured his soul into all the important moments that make one piece one piece, this imo is why one piece is slower and less consistent than it could be because he actively focuses much more of his time/effort on certain parts of the story.

sarkiki

I think lore is anything that helps to expand and deepen the world. I like the stuff that's not advancing the plot but gives more context to the characters, as well as the lore about the mysteries of the world.

WallusBitikus

To me what makes One Piece so special is that it feels like you are also on a adventure with the Straw Hats. Finding out about the world of One Piece along with them as they grow and explore the world. Thats what makes it so special and why i dont find myself bored even with the pacing sometimes. I just relax and savor each episode for what it is just like luffy, the fun isnt the end of the journey its finding joy throughout the adventure. And the complex history, powers, and mystery are the cherry on top.

Kurofi

‘He’s gonna die bro’ LMAOOO 😭 Watching Attack on Titan as your first anime really traumatized y’all. Now anytime a character seems important to the main character or starts getting emotional development, your immediate reaction is ‘yeah they’re dead’ 💀

Poragami

Why exactly are we watching One Piece again instead of One Pace?

Shiki

Pause the whole show and read the manga. Let jack keep going 🤣

Sasha Ruple

The pacing of the manga is generally really good. Sometimes it moves too fast, and there might be a couple arcs where it drags a little, but 95% of the time I'm personally happy with the pacing

bog

Carter's face when Cannon says "its whitney houston", might be the funniest thing I've ever seen.💀😬

Zaraiz Khan

i usually want to back up jack, cuz yall gang up on him. but at the end he was completely talking out of his ass lol

Andrew

I think it's actually just the second half of this arc that really loses people. It's the length plus the fact that once the main conflict part starts it just doesn't have that one piece spark

Snatchen

great outro!! was locked in for it like you where for Lore Piece.

Hansen

I’m here cannon

Snatchen

I think the anime for sure played a big role in making one piece as big as it is. Animation and espacially music where so genius at times.

Seb

What episode is he even on?

Nick K

I think Fishman Island is a great arc, and the only real issue I have with it is the time spent on Hordy's fodder underlings. Those fights are literally the a Straw Hat member one shotting them, yet they cut to and away from them over and over and drag them out. What should be like a minute per underling total got stretched out way too far over multiple episodes and just kills momentum. Also I've got other stuff going on and that I'm also trying to catch up on so I was behind on uploads for a bit, and when that's the case I'm less likely to comment

Nic ☦︎

you have literally only seen like 10% of all the lore in one piece so far and post time skip is the point of one piece that the show really goes in to the lore aspects of the world etc.

Spoons

Ya one piece is a different type of story than AoT or Vinland Saga so it’s hard to compare. Those are finite narratives that build to an end. One Piece is more like a modern Odyssey where every island or saga is its own self contained epic. But I think what makes one piece so special is its way to include an extremely good overarching narrative as well. The best of one piece is when Oda balances the two.

Thanatos

Fishman is probably the least liked arc due to its execution. It has a good message but there’s a reason why it was one of the only arcs that was remastered during the weekly run of the show. In regards to your guys larger point, I think due to the length of the show and the up and down quality of it, one piece becomes less of a show a more of a lifestyle in a way. It mirrors life in that it’s not always great but when it is, it hits highs like nothing else. Watching the show is like a journey on its own mirroring the straw hats journey through the grand line. And just like their journey, not every journey is always great to experience. There are going to be rough patches but there’s always light at the end of the next tunnel or an oasis over the hill. That parallel experience, with the straw hats and the viewers, creates that attachment that you see so many one piece fans have. Like cannon said, other shorter shows that are consistently good become the Oasis themselves (AoT), enjoyable while they’re here but can be slowly forgotten or replaced by another Oasis in the future. In a world of chaos and uncertainty, One Piece is the constant journey, always present. As you leave the desolate valley that is Fishman island on the way to future mountain peaks, enjoy the journey for one day it will end. That is why people say One Piece is not long enough. They don’t want their journey to end.

Spoons

The manga definitely has its slow chapters, but the time commitment is just different. A chapter takes maybe 5 minutes vs 20 for an episode, so when you’re binging you hit the peaks a lot faster. I’ve never been a weekly reader so I can’t speak to how the slow stretches feel in real time, but I know there are times when it’s slower

Daniella

"It's Whitney Houston" actually out of pocket for that i can't 😭💀

Seb

im all caught up with one piece and i have no idea what the one piece actually is lol

Hansen

Idk how the Wit remake will be without the iconic music

Thanatos

In terms of anime impact on the popularity, I think it’s 3 reasons or major aspects that contributed the most. Bleach and Naruto anime’s ending, COVID, and the quality of the arcs. One Piece was already the best selling manga before the anime reached its popular arcs. Especially in the days when bleach and Naruto were running concurrently and One Piece were in their slower moments, it was never peak popularity due to the competition among the big 3. For the longest One Piece was only really popular in Japan where Naruto was King in the west with Dragon Ball. It wasn’t until the Bleach anime ended (2012) is where I saw more of a gradual rise in One Piece. From my understanding of the anime community, that gave them the opportunity to prioritize other big anime. Naruto gained in some popularity but when that ended (2017), it was evident that One Piece would blow up as the last standing of the big 3 in the west. I don’t think One Piece hit the heights that know now until Covid when people had nothing better to do than to catch up to one piece. Without having to split attention with the other big 3 anime and with the industry shift from long running to seasonal, it allowed one piece to dominate during slow seasons in the anime community. AoT might be there, JJK might be there but those season ended eventually while One Piece just kept the conversation chugging along. The last piece of the puzzle, in my opinion, was just an explosive arc that nearly everyone could fall behind or gush over. I’m not going to spoil arc details but let’s just say we got there. The live action was just the cherry on top.

DonDuh103

Geks I love one piece and Fish man in my top 5 but it is 5th I love fish man yall just don’t get it. Also i haven’t left here every drop commenting.

esme

yarr was mostly lurking during fishman but no moreee!!!!!! my ult arc is sooooo near 💃🏻

Maj

Love a long outro, need some theory crafting ones soon

esme

"im the biggest syrup village defender now" still not over this makes me so happyyyy 🤭

Mr. John Kagurabachi

In the manga, the Japanese kanji they use for big mom is “苦楚飲ろ” which means: “Big Fatass Chungus Mom 67” That would be the her real name in authentic Japanese but stupid idiot localcizers changed it to “Big Mom” What an absolute downgrade!

Mr. John Kagurabachi

IMO this arc and the next one is slow, after that it’s peak after peak after peak after peak after peak 🔥🔥🔥 Similar to water7 into Ennies lobby into Sabaody into marine ford type shit. GET HYPED

DonDuh103

Don’t want to drop names cause they haven’t seen. Also why I don’t explain too much about why certain arcs we have seen are so good do to like foreshadowing.

DonDuh103

#1? #2 Alabasta #3Water 7 #4 Sky Piea #fish man

Enma

I believe that each arc in the manga is good, some are obviously better than others, how you measure that is your own opinion. The past 5 arcs of current one piece have been awesome in my opinion. There are stretches in these in arcs (and arcs before that) where it is not super exciting and can be difficult to get through, keep in mind there is only one chapter a week and sometimes you gotta wait two weeks in between multiple chapters of this stretch, so it makes it feel more sluggish. However it is not nearly as long or as painful as it is in the anime, which adds a bunch of fluff and makes you feel suicidal. There have been some instances that you guys have felt that went on too long or was not necessary or was bad, because in reality those moments were just a panel or two of that chapter. On the other side, there have been several stretches in the past like 150 chapters where you literally breeze through it because the content is so enjoyable and great, that worst part is when it ends and you have to wait another week or maybe two. So in a sense, these lock in moments are more frequent in manga and lowest parts are not that bad because its not exaggerated or drawn out like it is in the anime.

Murasaki

I have friends who only read the manga and friends who switched to the manga because of the terrible anime pacing. Now none of them watch the anime anymore, even though the animation quality is insane. Manga is a completely different experience. One reason is, as Jack said, the medium itself carries a lot of information per page. For example, this party is only 4 pages in the manga, which you only need 1 or 2 minutes to read, but in the anime it takes more than 10 minutes. Secondly, I think there is psychological reason that the readers can control the reading pace. If something’s interesting, they can read it carefully; if not, just skim and get the idea. But when watching the anime, you only take what’s given. If the pacing is off or the content is boring but you still have to sit and focus, it can make you feel anxious or irritable. And for you guys as reactors who can't even 1.25x or skip repetitive scenes, it would be even tougher. Then the overall experience of the story would be totally different.

Murasaki

I am very hyped for all future arcs but I need One Pace if only 4 episodes a week.

1804

the real reason Luffy was going to destroy FMI was because they ended up celebrating them as heroes lmao

Tj Etgen

Hardly makes up for the days upon days you've made for me lmao. Onto new things now!

1804

18:46 It took me so off guard, till this day I remember this shot of Robin... Probably the worst it gets

Ante

Peak outro guys. On Cannons question about lore: Subjective, but I would say the best lore is yet to come for sure and I don't think it's particularly close. The quality of the LorePiece mystery is something I feel Oda has managed extremely well. His connecting and sprinkling of all these pieces and the way he connects them to form a plot that grows with the show (Joy Boy, Void Century, yadayada) is peak imo. Every one is conditioned now to get hype at the end of arcs to see what side content/lore/world updates Oda will drop next. Easily my favorite part of the show and something OP does better than almost anything else I have watched. On manga pacing: Whenever I got tired of Anime pacing I would switch to the manga. Jack hit the nail on the head here: A mermaid singing for 2-4 panels or a page is nothing; it doesn't even register as an annoyance. In the anime especially when Toei is padding for time, the same scene can be really grating. Same thing with character reactions and running: in the manga you can process these quite quickly and its completly fine, but then you look at the anime and it's dragged out to all hell. On the other hand, the anime can (and does) elevate the big moments above the manga with creative sound, direction, etc. On One Piece consistency: I agree with Cannon here. The slop does make the highs feel better and One Piece is definitely designed around being a show that you follow throughout the year - constantly running every week instead of on and off. Because it's set up this way, OP can get a way with some things that other shows can't. I feel like if JJK came back after 2 years and dropped 15 episodes of straight gags and tomfoolery there would be riots in the streets. With One Piece, its everpresent, so the show just keeps churning out the episodes. Even if you don't vibe with something coming out today, everyone has their pet characters, factions, locations, side stories that they swear by, so eventually you catch wind of some stuff you're interested in coming into the spotlight and then your hooked for another couple of years. At least that was my experience.

Leonardo Alves

I’m still loving it ❤️ pls dont stop! You would regret

esme

everything cannon said >>>> also lore piece hasn't even started yet not even close

1804

They're following the guide that someone did for them

DonDuh103

Guys its the friends😂😂😂

DonDuh103

Cannon is Mattew McConaughey yelling at the rest of the Geks in the 5th dimension🤣🤣🤣🤣

Daniella

I feel like one piece is the only show that truly works with the amount of episodes it has. Like there’s a certain charm in the longevity of it. I caught up last year and I really felt appreciative of how much of a journey this show is and yes it's long and there is slop but it makes me love the peaks more. I don't know whether i'm making much sense lol but there are certain episodes that really make you feel the weight of the adventure, it should be shorter of course, but idk like when the og anime ends i'm gonna be such a mess cause we've all been on this long journey with Luffy and the crew (i can’t imagine how it will be for ppl who have been watching since the beginning). And when they reach their destination so will we cause it's the end of the show…anyways great outro discussion i’m trying to say i agree with Cannon :)

1way

Peak

1way

I’m still here since day one

1804

And we finally know one of the ancient weapons!! Man, I remember back then when the reactions started... how long it has been

Nick K

Also you guys are about 12 episodes away, from being halfway to where the show is currently at (1163) which is crazy to think about. Everything you've watched, is only half. But that isn't even halfway to being done because obviously it's still going. There is so much more to see and learn.

Carlos

Sorry bud but I’m in the bleach community now😩 jk I just I have no comment for this arc fr it was over stretched and mid and mid animation but that’s not really a problem to me. lore was great tho if ykyk

DonDuh103

Naruto and One Piece has the same structure, but Naruto pacing was always yap sesh or flash back spam. With One Piece they yep too much that do random scene that had comedic memes and showed the characters personality a lot of which made it feel more engaging. Like everyone says these days we wish they could give us a lot more of pre-time skip vibe crew moments.

Tom

Not sure it will take 3 years, at current pace if they are One Pacing post timeskip, which I imagine most of it they will, it will take them about a year. If One Pacing next arc it is going to be like 5 weeks, the arc after 13 weeks, then it's the question if they keep One Pacing beyond that point or not.

1way

Can’t wait for next arc!!

Beetlejuice

Jack was indeed saying a bunch of hooey lol No one knows what the one piece is…yet Just a taste of the lore iceberg for you boys today

Tom

Carter, the manga rarely has the frustrating/boring chapters in an arc. I can only think of a handful of moments in the series, such as mid thriller bark and perhaps sections of fishman island. The reality is a certain amount of an arc will just feel 'thin' instead; either mildly entertaining or seeming inconsequential. You just breeze through it all since there is nothing to chew on. Thankful reading the manga is lightning fast so you are only spending seconds and at most minutes on these scenes, and the boring sections of the story tend to be inconsequential plotlines that we spend more than a few minutes on. Since the anime extends most of these scenes you take fun momentary gags or plots like LRLL, or the chef sea train fight that fly bye in the manga and become boring messes in the anime. In reality 75-80% of an arc will be 'LOCK IN' to some extent or another, the rest just being inoffensive thin gruel, that I do think could be improved and doesn't benefit the series by providing the series with contrast imo. The biggest difference however is binge reading as opposed to weekly, this is where One Piece can become unengaging. While there will always be something to talk about each chapter, when most of a chapter is thin, it does just mean you move on after spending 5-10 mins reading the chapter per week, and since the thin chapters and the most hype chapters tend to cluster together in the 'set up' and 'pay off' sections of every arc, it does mean over the year how interested the fan base is in discussing one piece varies massively. However you've seen One Pace and that is far closer to what it feels like to read the manga as opposed to watching the OG anime, only difference is how much better Oda's art is and how good he is directing your feelings with his panelling; which is something hard to explain to a non-manga reader. The closest comparison is imagine if all of One Piece was amazingly animated all the time. So no it isn't 'LOCK IN' Piece all the time while reading the manga, but it does feel like that WAY more often, and the weaker moments feel more forgettable than frustrating.

Promanex(Alex)

Question if we have half man half cow in the real world or like half man half chicken would you eat them?

Tom

True but they are skipping filler tho

Spoons

The One Piece manga has pretty much always been HUGE in Japan. I think what made its popularity explode in the West is the upgrade in animation/fights that Toei made around 5-6 years ago. So the anime definitely has a lot of impact on its popularity.

Nonos

Think I heard a drake stray lmao. Maneesh on the beat shabang 😂 idc it’s a banger tho fr mann lmao

Hugh

Im sorry yall the community will come back prolly mid next arc to after the next arc

charlie

Big Mam is a mistranslation

SavDog23

18:48 I'll never forget this hilarious Robin frame lmao

Darren J

Jack doesn’t have any idea what the one piece is. Idk what all that yapping was 😂

Kurofi

Totally agree with Canon on how the “slop” works in the anime’s favor. Great points there! But the mangas pacing is def better than the anime’s

Sari-chan

If I remember right, Oda would like us, OP fans, to see it as a journey, with ups and downs, like a piece of life, but on a boat. Not everyday is thrilling, it is just organic. Random days are plenty and some are exceptional.

Scarlowi

I agree with Cannon's take about one piece benefitting from some slow parts or having more episodes. One pace and probably wit remake will never be better than the original one piece anime. More episodes builds the hype and makes big moments more impactful. One pace is also so poorly done, it ruins the flow and cuts parts that are peak that may not be manga canon but are ANIME canon which were made as continuity of the anime. It makes sense to watch all of the anime canon because that is what you are watching, you aren't reading the manga. You wouldn't skip parts of the live action because it isn't 1:1. The anime is an adaptation of the manga and it is its own thing. Toei does have some actual "pacing" issues but the extra things they add are usually better for the show. Sometimes the pacing is bad in the anime because its bad in the manga. One pace should be used as a tool for rewatching not to experience something for the first time. I've seen some reactions with one pace later that completely remove absolute peak moments.

SavDog23

29:47 Sihouette Piece Is Real 😂

cozo

the best lore piece you guys have seen is robins backstory imo

sammy

jack stop lying bro u do not know what the one piece is

JevCor

the one piece is friendship

sammy

the friends we made along the way 🥹😭

Hugh

The manga does have “slop” but toie just pads this slop to make them unbearable example that buggy thing in marineford, the manga had that plot in it but toie just made it worse, however i think the “slop” you guys refer to some of us enjoy it like its funny to us but not to some, so the question is do you watch one piece for the peaks or do you love the inbetween, even tho they struggle even tho its easy to hate it and it definitely sucks a lot nobody likes it but thats just one piece and as a caught up person it really does make me love it soo much more because with no spoilers i think one piece has many transitions in how its portrayed and thats whats makes it reach higher levels of storytelling arc after arc but sometimes you lose somethings.

charlie

No i have personally never felt that with the manga but I know many people have but those people aren't built for reading weekly and I don't mean that in a negative way

cozo

peak outro

sammy

carter i’ve read the whole manga and the only part ive felt was slow is the start of thriller bark and maybe a little bit in impel down, but like it is not even comparable to the anime also because I can speed read the parts I don’t like as much, but in the anime they just mix in so much padding and filler so for mckay’s metaphor it’s like eating steak and then going to mcdonald’s for a couple hours then straight back to that juicy steak and then lore piece feels like buttery lobster, honestly if WIT manages to capture the feeling of the manga with the emotional peaks with the music of the toei anime then that would be the perfect adaptation, there are a lot of episodes of the toei one piece that I like more than oda’s chapters but it’s not consistent enough to compete with the manga, atleast for me

cozo

i would take 20 bount arcs if it meant the pacing was always good 💀

charlie

I truly feel like every arc in post time skip gets better than the last

Nonos

Yeah the one piece manga does occasionally have like mid chapters or some lows but since it’s manga u can just get through it and read it quickly lol. Since the medium of anime has its own pacing that you can’t control besides flat out fast forwarding, that mid just feels so long and dragged. At least, that’s how it feels from my perspective since I’ve read and watched the anime.

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Imagine One Piece but with perfect pacing. That’s what the manga is. The ussop vs mole rat baseball in Alabasta was boring? Guess what, you just read it faster. The lore is interesting? Guess what you read it slower. That might sound really dumb but that’s how it is IMO. I will say the anime and the music makes the vibes better but just imagine a world of Anime One Piece with perfect pacing. It would be the best show ever created right? That’s how the manga feels for me.

SavDog23

Cannon makes a great point in the outro. My take is a bit different, but I'd say Romanticism and Absurdism are the two core philosophies of One Piece, and they serve as the story's foundation. Oda loves aspects of absurdism and having fun in his story, writing goofy/wacky/absurd characters, designs, islands, subplots, yet it all fits within his world and doesn't feel out of place. Whether you think those moments are great or slop is subjective, the majority of One Piece fans enjoy it, however Toei's pacing does have a negative effect for these moments and make it feel dragged out in the anime. Oda's writing is not flawless, but he writes the story in this unqiue way because it makes the deeper plots and heavier emotional moments hit so much harder. Without the unseriousness, One Piece would never have become as popular as it is imo. Oda still loves his absurdism even in current One Piece, so you either choose to embrace it or have to struggle through 1000+ episodes and basically reject a core philosophy/aspect of the story.

Nonos

All that yap to say “I don’t actually know what it is” 😂🥀

TKoopa

No spoilers but episode 1070 and 1071 have the best lore

Mdgk

The manga is always peak. The average rating of the latest 50 chapters is probably 9.5/10.

SavDog23

Peak comment.

Marcus D

Jack, just a suggestion for watching one piece on your own, if I may. Just finish wano and stop there. So much happens in Wano that’ll make you appreciate this current rewatch so much more and for the fact that youre in the middle of it. Then you’ll still have 2 full anime arcs to watch blind with the boys.

JevCor

To the outro, I don't really vibe with the one piece anime, I actually didn't much like the series and kept dropping it for months at a time. I finally decided to read the manga about 4 months ago and caught up so quickly, its just so much better, something about one piece just doesn't transfer well to anime for me.

Nrock23

It’s big mom lol

yoshithesushi

As someone born and raised in japan, and watching one piece at like 9am on sunday, imagine how frustrating it is to watch certain episodes. Also consider that there is a commercial break between the midcard, it can really ruin the momentum of a moment. But i think it is important to remember, anime during this time, is designed for traditional broadcasting, and is different compared to Western media. For fishman island, one piece aired at 9:30am EVERY SUNDAY from October 2, 2011 to December 23, 2012. That with limited source material, tv broadcasting scheduling, and having hit a specific time length, Toei has incorporated a lot of different things to accommodate to those requirements, at the expense at the pacing of the show, or adding multiple recap moments. If remember the enies lobby correctly, there are like 6 episodes worth of recap/filler of the strawhat backstories, at the height of the the arc. So yeah imagine watching that arc live in Japan every week only to get a filler episode... It is unfortunate that i think the pacing has put off one piece for a lot of different people. But with hindsight, I think complaining about the pacing is honestly a bit dumb, when you consider that Toei followed the traditional weekly anime structure that you see in more older animes that were being aired in the 90's and early 2000s. Consider animes like long form animes like Doraemon or kureyon shin-chan. Both are anime adaptation of the manga counterpart, with doraemon airing two 10 min length segments, into a 30min televised broadcast since 1981 until 2005 btw. Kureyon shin-chan aired since 1992, with three shorts into one 25 ish long episode. Obviously not all of it is straight sourced from the manga, but has a lot of anime original stuff that you wont see in the manga, because these studios need to fill a quota at the end of the day. But these studios have been following the format of producing animes for a VERY long time, more than i think most people consider. But anime has changed so much with the way we consume it, plus with it reaching more a global audience. Now we have shows that conform to more Western style media, where each episode doesnt have to be designed for TV broadcasting services anymore. And with the switch from weekly to seasonal with help one piece with the pacing a little. so i think, yes one piece as an anime is not perfect. It has pacing issues and yes it has too much fanservice and too much goon bait. But since the manga was brought up in the discussion, the anime has so much going for it, that you will never get from just reading the manga. Despite Toei getting flack for reusing sound effects, it has also given us some of the best sound tracks all time imo. The anime has always done a good job with emphasizing emotionally intense moments with music, anime direction, scene cutting, and overall design, that you will never experience by reading just the manga. I think the merry example is really good, because i think Toei went above and beyond in adapting that scene. So enjoy the rest of the journey, some parts are going to be long and difficult to get through. Other moments will have you right at the edge of your seats. Not everything has to be perfect all the time, just like life. Also can i just add, that one piece in general is just so japanese humor coded. Not to be "oh you won't get it because you just arent japanese" but esp the humor in pre time skip, is heavily reliant on japanese gags, like the crocus DON moments. Langauge, translations and cultural differences are always going to be tricky, because certain scenes will make NO sense to westerners, since its rooted in japanese humor. I wish i could think of better examples right now, but one I actually remember is a filler scene that is removed with the one pace adaption from the brook introduction scene. The strawhats chooses who goes to explore the haunted boat using kujibiki (drawing sticks like a lottery game) which was a common way of deciding on groups in japan.

ahmad

The manga does have pacing issues at times but it's nowhere near as bad/often as the anime. You can also read through arcs faster if you're enjoying them less.

ahmad

+1

ahmad

I kinda knew what he meant but he struggled to convey it to them lol

wanira 11

They do because a lot of them build on eachother, for example the next arc is a major set up arc for a lot of arcs after that

SavDog23

For the Manga or Anime blowing up question. One Piece manga started in 1997 and was the highest selling manga for 2000-2004, 2007-2018 and once again in 2025. The King of Manga. The anime always had popularity but it's worst production era was 2011-2017 and was largely carried by Oda's amazing story. The anime's popularity really boomed in 2019 when the production was completely overhauled and the visual quality improved to be one of the best in the anime industry, which was crazy for a weekly show. Covid lockdowns also gave people plenty of time to watch/read the series, and the Live Action only boosted that popularity even more, to now where One Piece is literally everywhere and is arguably the #1 story/experience of our generation.

ahmad

I believe in the WIT Piece, i just wish we were getting more than 50 chapters adapted

Sophia

I love that Luffy and Zoro define “hero” the exact same way, 20 episodes apart, in completely different conversations, where the other wasn’t present. I love their relationship, they seem so different on the surface, but they share the same soul. 15/10 character dynamic

Ashu Bhai

Lore piece never ends , Zehahaha zehha..hahhahha ,zehhahhahha

NathSSB

The manga from my experience is consistently good, does have some dips (like thriller bark). But id say cannons experience is actually how I feel with the manga rn. I actually feel so dull to the peak that whenever there is like an 8 or 7 out of 10 chapter It feels bad, but I know the chapter is objectively good if that makes sense.

Ashu Bhai

Ha ha Manga goes like that fast. U can keep reading & be curious to turn the page around.

Ashu Bhai

54:50 - A show of 1200 ep can't be just constant peak. But the thing One piece always do as u continuing to move forward u will realise - "Those are not peak at first glance Glow in when u look backward after catching up. It just give full meaning to one piece & makes it complete. The World buliding looks much more profound" - just know this & keep going

Ashu Bhai

56:00 - Obv becoz those are extremely fast paced compared To one piece & it's due to the nature of the show . What one piece does is actual world Buliding (at it's finest) all the other show u named wrapped up things at 5- 10% of total one piece run time . The margin is that huge.

John D. Acebes

reading manga is a superior experience if you care for time invested. Action sequences are as fast as you can flip a page. I am a ride and die for One Piece's story, but the anime does make it harder to digest at times. Animation will improve again at some point, but I predict pacing is going to be a constant discussion. Not that I personally mind. It doesn't help when whimsy is not something yall seem to fancy. Not that's a bad thing. Personal preferences

Good conversation at the end

Niko

The manga would definitely not be as popular without the anime, and the manga does in fact have some snooze fest chapters - they are just further and fewer between thanks to toei and the bad pacing. The manga is definitely more concentrated goodness but it still has its 'Sanji Noodle Guy Train Fight' moments that are inevitable in one piece

KenpachiKam

One Piece fell off the map with fishmen ahahha. I cant lie i was so locked in for everythng thus far... but after you get impel down into marineford theres just no part of me that needed to see Fishmen arc again ahahaha. When youve watched 1000+ episodes of a show its easy to not rewatch one of the lower tier arcs.

mina

watching this after cooking for eid is like a reward 🥹

Thanks Geks! I really like how Hordy ended. Feels like a real outcome to a villain

It’s Big Mom. Big mam is a mistranslation they’ll fix later on. Mamma is just what she is referred to by her crew.

Here is my thoughts as both a manga reader and anime watcher. Firstly I do think there is slow chapters in the manga but much less so than the scenes in the anime. For example the average chapter per episode in most anime is 2-3 chapters while in one piece the average is 0.7-1 chapter. I think the anime hits better in some instances especially emotional ones simply because of the music in the background and some extra scenes they can add during those moments. But I do absolutely think the manga was the main reason for its success and its still a way better medium. You can pace yourself in the manga a lot of the time and its more consistent. If you were to look up the ratings on myanimelist website (or most others) it's an 8.7 in the anime and a 9.22 in the manga which I think already shows the significant difference pacing makes. It goes from top 54 anime to a top 4 manga. I do think the anime boosted its popularity by a significant margin but as for most early shonen series they all suffer from pacing/animation and other long term formats that most series can't make it with. When it comes to manga readers I see them often having skypiea or fishman island rated way higher than most anime watchers because toei butchered them while trying to avoid catching up to the anime. This is why the remake is so anticipated. One pace can help but it makes transitions seem weird and can cut out some of the anime only comedy. Side note- I really do like cannons analogy, i still think it can hold in the manga somewhat but in terms of slice of life moments that still are enjoyable. Similarly I think one of One Piece's main messages is romanticism or intense emotion/adventure in an individuals subjective experience are more meaningful than complex logic, authority and conformity. It's funny because i think this partially aligns with what cannon is saying especially with the idea most people now are so used to getting the cream of the crop that they forget what makes it special. This is why most fans say one piece is about the journey not the destination, its about being there in the moment. Sorry for the long rant lol.

Spidey

100%

Judleart - Julie DL

I want you to catch up so bad hahaha man so much to come

cozo

might be 3 full anime arcs by the time they catch up ngl 💀

Spidey

Also about Cannon and his connection to One Piece even in its slower moments compared to Naruto, I think the reason the slice of life sections feel less annoying in One Piece comes down mainly to the comedy and worldbuilding. In both series I think the manga is significantly better than the anime, but One Piece’s slower moments are easier to sit through because Oda makes almost everything feel connected to the larger world, themes, or future payoffs. Even when the Straw Hats are just messing around on the ship or interacting with random side characters, those scenes usually build character dynamics, expand the culture of an island or foreshadow future events. For example: absurd characters like buggy, bon clay, mr 3 and many more come back into the story in a more meaningful way. I think alot of one piece fans like myself can watch the strawhats do anything and enjoy it simply because of how much we like the main group. The comedy also helps break up the pacing because the crew chemistry is one of the core appeals of the series. One Piece the slower moments often feel like part of the adventure itself. I think that is why people say One Piece is about the journey.

farkzzy

very well said

Shiv NiceGuy

After you guys catch up to the anime, would you be willing to catch up to the manga and then react to the chapters weekly as they drop? I think it will be awesome because the whole world gets to experience them weekly at the same and Its getting to the climax of the story so nows the best time to read it weekly.

Janice W

Personally I agree with Cannon's point but the thing is the anime does pad too long, specifically for when something has already been shown once. Like when we start at scene A, cut to scene B and when we return back to scene A, the same thing is happening and nothing has changed. Which is clearly a sign of the anime not having enough material to continue so they basically spam the same panel. Where Cannon's point stands is that Oda already includes some goofy gags and slice of life/down time contrasting against lore piece which is why the story is so long. So when the anime extends the gags to fill for time, it kinda becomes unbalanced

Janice W

NO I AGREE WITH JACK, I think past a certain point (and some people with the biggest and wrinkliest of brains with their early theories) you get a gist of what the one piece might be and it would be fitting for the story. BUT it's not confirmed or anything

Janice W

Also just to add like other people have been saying, the anime does deserve its props! I won't give context but there was a scene in the manga that just filled me with so much joy when reading it, then the anime counterpart of it made me so emotional instead. The music, the voice acting and just the interpretation the anime takes with some of its scenes is really amazing. It feels so special to be able see the same scene in an entirely different light just by changing the medium

Kylie

Great closing discussion guys! I totally agree with Canon’s take. It’s like Carter said back in Marineford: “it’s like we’re being rewarded.” I do think the more breathing room between peaks, the more we get to build up to that point. I feel that payoff every time this show has me on the edge of my seat, and I do think I’ll remember them better because this show doesn’t rush or overstimulate me before I can process what’s happened

Kylie

One day you guys too will say “there’s not enough one piece”

Kae D. en

I’ll bet my house jack doesn’t know what the one piece is

SanjA1800

I paused One Piece 2 years ago when I was 10 episodes into this arc because i was bored to tears. It had its moments but i never really connected with the inhabitants of this island and the evil villain was definitely one of the weakest. Decided to restart One Piece from the beginning with your reactions because i didnt want to restart on freaking Fishman Island. And finally here I am at the end of this arc and ready to move on. Its been fun rewatching OP with you guys you even made this arc bearable. The lore drop in this batch was peak though. Excited for whatever comes next.

Kae D. en

Lore piece genuinely has not started. You guys are still within the confines of shiganshina, not even inside wall Maria yet. We’re still in the prologue

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

Nice stats! I also think the popularity boom was different in Japan vs the rest of the world.

Reefat Bakht

My comments on the outro: I think the lore DEFINITELY gets better, in fact, I love the pre time skip so much because of what it does to set up the story, the humour, vibes and how rewatchable it is (for me). But the post time skip gets the benefit of perfectly building ontop of the lore to create insanely interesting ideas and theories. As well as that, the most consistent thing about post time skip is that the lore feels important and well done. Oda definitely hasn't lost it in that department. I would also say that the latest arcs are probably the best and most lore-filled arcs. As a fan of lore piece, I'm genuinely eating so good. The only negative is that it really makes me care so much less for the humorous and fillery scenes. I just want to get past it. Pros and cons. I'm absolutely sure you boys will like the latest arcs especially because you've been trying to piece together story and seeing it come together will hit.

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

After watching for 18 years, the end will probably feel like a part of my life was torn away lmao.

Reefat Bakht

About the manga vs anime. I think with big emotional moments, such as in Marineford, or in Enies Lobby, the anime definitely takes it. It's just so special. But, seeing as Oda is completely in control of the manga, and it's his writing that we all love, even when it's wacky or unnecessary, I find that the manga tells the better story, bad pacing or not, it just feels like it all makes sense. Weirdly, looking back on arcs in the anime, the story beats make a lot of sense. But watching through it feels like hell at the worst points. But in the manga, it never feels like hell, just wacky and random at points, until it comes together to make sense in the way Oda always does. I guess you will probably have less trust issues and less frustration reading the manga for sure. But also, less satisfaction or shock at when the story turns into a meaningful moment as it does in the anime. I've been anime only for years and I absolutely love it. I only started the manga when I caught up at a point, but eventually dropped it because even though it was so much better paced and so interesting, I became sad at the fact the story was going by so quickly and I wanted more time with the characters and to see the world come alive, so I just stopped and waited a few years so I could watch the anime blind again and discover big reveals with the anime. However, one of these days I'm going to fully read the manga start to finish and I'm pretty confident it will become my favourite thing ever.

Jawid

Attack on Titan is incredible, but it never feels like a journey you're actually on. One Piece's slow parts make the world feel huge and real. When nothing happens for a few episodes, you just exist with the crew. That downtime is annoying, but it's also why the crew starts to feel like actual friends. You can't get that from a show that's all gas and no brakes. A perfectly paced show keeps you excited. One Piece makes you feel like you lived it.

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

The only justice I will give toei is the fact that I think they love OP and oda too. Evidenced by the filler/non canon that actually has good characterization and sometimes story arcs (they understand the character and world). Gosh even some non cannon episodes are better than super badly paced padded cannon episodes (g8, usopp vs daddy, ace backstory, Fan letter?). OP non-canon is way better than Naruto or bleach filler

StanleyMurkle

Honestly idk where id rank fmi out of every arc but for post ts i think its the worse

StanleyMurkle

Or tied at the bottom w another arc

Marcus D

It was a good yap, stand proud.

EIIDD MUBARAK 🎉🎉

Niko

Lore Piece hasn’t even STARTED yet

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

I like FI as a story, but its missing the crew dynamics, humor and crazy antics that I loved in pre-timeskip

forthwanderer

regarding what carter said, the manga is quicker and snappier and conveyed in a way that is much more to the point to where you don't really have time to like tap your foot over how long certain moments drag out. i'd say thats the biggest advantage the manga has but also its all coming from Oda, he's drawing and writing all of it. its the purest version of the story you can get, the anime can have better highs sometimes but the manga is just an overall smoother experience. I would even recommend reading one of the older one piece arcs, like skypeia, that arc made me feel things in the manga that the anime just couldn't do.

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

This outro was goated but also rlly made me laugh 🤣. I love watching u guys bicker. ALSO irregardless of how others feel, I love your yaps Jack. More yaps from all of the geks pls 💜. The analysis/debates and reflections feed my soul

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

TLDR In my opinion, the OP boom in the west was due to the mid 2010 global increase in anime audience (anime's now cool), the dying manga industry in JP + Covid. Slight timeline deep dive onto the industry: Anime was niche even in Japan. Fans are called otakus and HEAVILY bullied/prejudiced. Low audience = anime not profitable on its own. The only way to watch was TV in japan (and illegal stream sites that you only know through word of mouth). The goal of anime adaptations was to promote manga sales + merchandise profits. Thats why old long running animes like naruto, OP and bleach are the way that they are-- based on the idea that watchers will move onto the manga + provide fan service. (Naruto manga >>> anime). Overtime, JP manga industry is dying (just like the global book industry dying). Sometime in mid 2010, streaming + social media makes anime popular and easily accessible. Anime is cool (all of the sudden) = big global audience = Anime is now also profitable on its own + merchandising. Shift in anime production quality and goals One piece's growth over time: In JP OP was always popular with anime fans because the humor is very Japanese. But in the west, 90's early 2000's where anime was not cool, OP looking childish made it even harder to like--> even anime fans made fun of us. That's why we ever only heard about Bleach, Naruto and DBZ. Covid + modern animation + nothing else to watch + social media FOMO = western popularity boom. Covid is a big one b/c the time commitment is one of the biggest factors for most Anime watchers not liking/starting OP Ps. personally I love anime, but manga as a form is different and unbeatable, and I love the One piece manga

Milochocodrink (Zoro's wife)

This. I love a lot of shows for what they are, but OP is the only one that feels like an adventure I'm a part of.

kuza

amazing post discussion, really just gets me even more excited for when yall are fully caught up and can speak all about theories and watch videos on that sort of stuff 😌

kuza

the conversation at the end is really interesting regarding the pacing and comparing things like AOT to one piece because both of those shows are literally my number 1 , i could put either or at my 1 because to me AOT is like the perfect show, or pretty much as close to perfect as you can get , but as for one piece im so much more engrossed into the show/manga and the love i have for one piece is genuinely beyond almost anything and maybe the length has a lot to do with it being that the JOURNEY is one of the most magical things about one piece and the evergrowing story just continues to captivate me, both ACTUAL peak

kuza

!!!

kuza

so true, anime u are pretty much forced to endure some parts but in manga as you said u can really just read faster 😭😭

kuza

the byproduct of this peak story oda has wrote 😙

Keanu

Jack is just talking straight nonsense, there is no consensus on what the one piece is, there are lots of theories sure but to say "everyone would think the same as me" is just wrong

Keanu

"I know what the one piece is! Let me explain... I know its real and I know the details in the show surrounding it and we are going to find it!"

Keanu

Haha the post episode discussion/ arguments are escalating, can't wait till you guys get some more lore drops, it'll make it even juicier. We are just scratching the surface

Keanu

To Cannon and Carter's point about the slow moments or the moments that take you out of it making the peaks better. I recently rewatched Alabasta using one pace after watching it OG the first time. I can confidently say that I was not as immersed using the sped up/ refined version. It cut so many moments like the crew hanging out in the desert while Ace watched that added to the atmosphere but ultimately wasn't needed for the grander plot. This is meant to be a story following Luffy's journey and life, life is not always fast paced or perfect. Now don't get me wrong, the fight portion of this arc in particular is terribly done in my opinion. Way too drawn out with little substance. But during the party scene, a scene that could have been cut shorter by maybe 5 minutes, you were all smiling ear to ear at the fun and goofiness.

greyxwaren

i could’ve canceled my subscription and waited until you guys finished FMI BUT IM HERE FOR THE JOURNEY!!

Keanu

Sorry for the spam comments but the post discussion was really interesting. I think AOT and one piece serve different purposes and I think Cannon is correct. AOT is a very refined, focused story whereas one piece is chaotic and goes on tangents at every island. But I think that's the beauty of one piece, is not knowing what will come next, the mystery, the surprise and the adventure. That's what the show is about, both actually cover similar themes in relation to finding freedom but one piece doesn't focus on the end goal at pretty much any point. Luffy is a pirate for the adventure and the freedom and has declined knowing what the one piece is as not to jeopardize that adventure. I feel like Luffy and Eren both have very different views and ideals when it comes to freedom. Eren strives for it, he makes an active effort to chase it and the plot follows him in that direction. Luffy's idea of freedom is being able to do whatever he wants and that may change on any given day depending on where he is. He has no desire to topple the oppressive world government, he fights for his friends and makes enemies based off that. The length of one piece is a testament to the adventure, it fits with it's main character, every day and every island is a different story, it makes the world feel real and also makes the end goal feel fulfilling. So to summarize, both great shows, but very different approach, if AOT was long it wouldn't be as good, if One Piece was short it wouldn't feel as adventurous.

louis10969

Hear me out but the best way to find out about the manga is you all start reading it NOW 🔥🔥🔥

Ante

@cozo And what a beautiful 3-arcs those would be.

Ante

Needless to say, if WIT manages to deliver the narrative without these godforsaken pacing issues, they will have a big hit on their hands. The world is not ready for One Piece unchained with AOT level direction. I honestly wouldn't mind the same treatment for Naruto/Bleach tbh. Give all the pillars of the anime community the JJK treatment. Imagine the Soul Society arc in 2026.

cozo

one piece is already one of the biggest franchises oat and is literally guaranteed to only go up from here 💀 it will be unstoppable

Pretty Soul

500+ episodes is literally just the prologue. Fish-Man Island is the transitional phase meant for adjustment, but now the snowball effect will be in motion.

esme

"the length of one piece is the testament to the adventure" exactly 🙂‍↕️

Dut

The problem with fishman island is watching it without one pace it’s 46 episodes with about 15 good episodes max it’s just when you go from the peak of marine ford to this it feels VERY slow and boring

Jonas Teigen

Yeah, it’s a bottom‑three arc; even the lore, themes, and backstories aren’t enough to pull it out of the grave

Chris Schwirz

Really great discussion at the end. I think it’s just a combo of cannons premise with carters question. In my experience the manga does have bad pacing sometimes but it’s just nowhere near as bad. For example the wanze ramen fight is like a couple episodes in the anime. That’s 40 mins of your time. In the manga it’s 1 chapter so it’s 12 minutes of your time tops. In terms of story progression that’s still a drag in the story but in the anime it’s just genuinely more real time paying attention. That’s why McKays steak vs dog food analogy makes sense in the anime but in the manga it’s more true to cannons premise. More digestible

Marcus D

Manga propelled the peak of one piece in Japan but for the rest of the world it’s definitely the anime. But if not for the manga sensation it was in Japan, idk if the world would have caught on with the anime like it has now.

Promanex(Alex)

Yo Cannon gets it man, I also feel like Oda puts in random stuff and slow points on purpose not only to forshadow things in a funny way also to slow things down so when the show gets serious it’s extra lock in because of the comparison. In fact Oda does it with his character even, the strawhats most of the time are unserious and just fools around but when they starts getting serious you will get that shock factor and like woah damn Luffy or Sanji is kinda locked in right now

Wickerx Nanana

Jack, what are you talking about, nobody knows what the One Piece is, not even the biggest theory crafters on YouTube. You can ONLY assume what it COULD be, based off whats so far in the story. Stop making weird stuff up please. Just say it's your made up theory, stop saying the word "I know" because nobody does, except Oda and his assistance. the ONLY thing we know from what Oda said many years ago is that it's a physical object, even then it's very vague so, stop giving the boys weird answers.

Wickerx Nanana

If you are scared that you are running out of PEAK One Piece lore, don't be, because theres infinite more of them to come.

Shaun V

18:45 reminds me of Carter's infamous "Why is it so HD rn?" lmao

SanjA1800

Omg I've heard people say there's some pacing issues in coming arcs but your comment tells me there's more peak to make up for it. Aight im seated and strapped in.

__Blank__

This is facts🤣. I Died when he asked did we reach the peak of lore piece, whole time he hasn’t even really seen anything crazy yet. It’s LITERALLY like a whole different show rewatching while being caught up, especially to the manga.

OpMan

this arc so buns just cant wait till yall get past this

Gexy Chen

But next arc is not any better lol

WE ARE SO BACK

DaniP

You guys should read a few fishman island chapters love to see how it plays!

Kayanolive

Anime took a B Tier Arc and turned it into a D Tier shitfest

Crogadile

we are lurking for the better islands I'd imagine - you'll see you'll see >:)

Kayanolive

Toei is doing the exact same thing to the next few arcs btw, this is the dark age of the one piece anime (which is sad cause this is where lorepiece explodes)

Kayanolive

I mean yeah if FMI came out today it would have been 20 episodes instead of 52 or whatever. They gotta watch a comparison or better read the chapters they watches this batch. The pacing issues are so bad that i feel like u wont believe it until u read the manga urself

Kae D. en

Yeah I laughed too 😭

Faradyn

This is for McKay, Cannon, and Carter, Jack has no idea what the One Piece is lmao.

Faradyn

The manga's pacing is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the anime. Most of the anime's pacing issues are a result of Toei trying not to catch up to the manga while remaining a weekly released anime. Obviously there are parts of the real story that drag or aren't as exciting, but that isn't the same as how the anime stalls out scenes to fill the standard episode time. Not entirely sure why it got so much worse post timeskip though, since it was always airing alongside the manga. I agree with Cannon on the point about needing the down moments to fully appreciate the peaks and I think that the story intentionally aims to do this with the post-arc lore chapters and stuff like that. The anime just exacerbates the issue. It's been interesting rewatching Fishman Island with you guys with One Pace, since I was able to get a better feel of the plot without the slog of the pacing. I think the reason that Fishman Island isn't that beloved is because there isn't really any stakes/danger because we just whoop the villains + the villains are intentionally hollow and not very interesting. There is obviously a lot of great social commentary and there really are villains like Hody in the real world where it's just generational blind hatred, so it's cool that he portrayed that. I think it's just the mix of it being such a long arc + the not very engaging or suspenseful opponents that causes it to feel so boring. Lastly, I am not sure why Jack is being so vague and waffling about Lore Piece. Lore Piece hasn't even begun boys. He does NOT know what the One Piece is haha.

Harrison Hird

if this doesnt get featured in gek news then studio gek will lose all credibility

TrueCrisp

I've been absent these last few drops but I think I'm back now !!

Zach D Law

The manga is great, the lore piece is still amazing there. No filler either, I look forward to the chapter drops every week now that I’m caught up on the manga!

Zach D Law

If anyone else is caught up on the manga, id love to talk about the most recent chapters outside this comment section

Zach D Law

The anime probably helped propel it to its heights. But the manga has been the number one selling manga in the world for like a decade now.

I think it’s a bottom 3 arc.. 😭 It’s still my favorite anime, but overall, it wasn’t great. Lmao

i think jack should complete his current wano act and then wait for you guys. for the anime and manga comparision i personally am mostly manga only and just watch the highlight of the current episodes or am rewatching with some reactors to find stuff i missed or have a new opinion on because of context. the manga has less drought of good stuff but i personally dont like fights in the manga and there are sometimes a few slower chapters but mostly the manga has nearly no bad chapters compared to the anime where there are some skippable non filler episodes

16 pages stretch out for 20 min

The pacing in the manga has never been an issue, it was always toeis one piece with terrible pacing. “One pace” itself is edited to follow the pacing of the manga.

I think the anime made one piece blow up more than the manga did, not discounting how popular the manga has always been, but for me I would have never picked up one piece if there was never an anime for it, and now I’m so caught up on the anime that I’ve been reading the manga just so I don’t get spoiled online. No other show has ever made me want to go read the manga.

Honestly Jack is way closer to the One Piece than yall are to him. Lol

Canon: Finally! Yes, some substance! Robin: Canon: Holy, what the? That was amazing timing hahaha

52:46 Very late to this convo i hope Carter still sees this but: YES! Atleast 90% of the time. Thats why some ppl (me included) are so annoyed at Toei and scream about One Pace so much. I like this analogy, lets say u want someone to try this very tasty cherry juice, and after alot of convincing they end up trying it but u find out its heavily diluted with water. Yes its cherry juice and ur happy they tried it but it being diluted changes the taste and makes it way less flavorful.

Kayanolive

Cannon's point works way better if we apply it to real life rather then something we choose to "waste" our free time with. The better a show is the better. Jujutsu Kaisen has been straight gas for example and i think thats good, their slower episodes were still super juicy.

Kayanolive

1:02:26 Well yes they are switchting to a seasonal model but they will still only animate 1 chapter per episode, which has been pretty much what one piece is doing for years already. (Yes they went with 0.5 chapters for ages but still) The standard still is 2-4 chapters so Toei still isnt willing to give One Piece proper pacing even after going seasonal.

Smdh. I hate how they try to make up for it too by over animating a special move in a fight or drawing out a gag for too long too

I know I'm late, but as someone who has been reading the manga for over 10 year, the slop isn't as bad. Like there aren't really moments that I'm like this is so boring I don't care. But there are times when certain things are dragged on for too long and you wonder how much longer it will last. That's part of the reason I started just binging the manga 2 or 3 times a year. Another reason is all the breaks Oda takes for his health plus holidays. I'll say that for sure, the lows in the anime are lower. You aren't going to get super cringe moments in it like the singing fish woman, or other corny parts of the parties. Or the moments where they stay on the same frame for too long with nothing happening and there's no tension either. A lot of those things are at the point now where its not done artistically, but to fill time instead. I couldn't agree more with McKay when he said he would turn the TV off if someone walked in the room lmao.

Szonin

The manga is very well paced but weekly readers still find a way to complain about stuff all the time.

Szonin

Why would they do that? Arlong was also a practical costume.

Jeff

the manga is definitely paced properly. I would say that maybe sometimes a bit dialogue heavy. I think it could be a good way for you guys too see is to pick a few consecutive scenes in an arc that were not great in the anime and see the manga equivalent.

Chérie

My question has always been ''what are they even going to for Brook's skeleton?!😭'' I don't think it's going to look that great. Passable but not great.

corLeonis
