Ive seen articles saying that its both based on a true story and not based on a true story so i never know which article to believe. There aren't really any credible sources like coming from the directors or writers, I can find stating its forsure based on a true story. The show doesn't directly credit anyones lives or mentions any books so it makes me believe its not based on a true story! But from what ive read on *if* it really was based on a true story it is *loosely* based on that couple that you mentioned lives. The girl lost her mother young and had to take care of her siblings, becoming a diver herself. Eventually marrying a fellow diver who ends up being a super supportive and caring husband and father of their three kids for the rest of their lives.

Gwan-sik and Ae-sun have to be some of the best characters of all time. They might not be the kind of insanely complexly written characters people typically bring up when talking about the goats, but I think that’s exactly what makes them so special. They’re just deeply human. Their love, flaws, sacrifices, and all the small moments feel so real that they end up feeling more complex than a lot of characters with bigger, more dramatic arcs. A lot of great characters are memorable because they’re extraordinary. Gwan-sik and Ae-sun are memorable because they remind us of ordinary people we’ve loved, known, or even been ourselves. That’s what makes them unforgettable.

Guys the scene where everyone was being so unkind and cold towards Aesun at the hospital STUCK WITH ME. We do NOT TREAT OUR ELDERS WITH ENOUGH PATIENCE!! The same people who helped our world be easy for us to live in, and now we live in that same world that is so fast paced that we can't seem to slow down for them. Those who are old, or unwell, or disabled. I work in healthcare so sometimes I understand it's tough when we are overwhelmed with things to do, too many patients to see and there's an elderly person who just can't understand something or wants to have a chat but I don't have a lot of time. All it takes is a smile at least, and my elderly patients understand immediately that I am busy and trying. So even if you are busy, no matter what industry you are in, smile at our elders!!!!

I was actually shocked when y'all dropped the first episode that you picked this show lol. What a journey it's been. . Like y'all said, actually spreading it out allowed the characters to sit with you more and grow more attached as the weeks went by. Some shows are meant for those dopamine hits and people look for instant gratification but this is not really one of those. I really don't get emotional consuming media but I teared up quite a bit watching this last episode. We're all here trying to live our best lives but Gwan-sik and Ae-sun definitely did. Y'all might be looking for some lighter shows so wouldn't be surprised to see you pick up one of those commonly recommended that you mentioned in the video. I'll just throw two more titles in the ring, my favorite and second favorite kdramas of all time: Misaeng and Be Melodramatic.

Like the others are saying, if you want to watch a similar slice of life drama, Reply 1988 is a banger But if you want to watch more IU with the same director as WLGYT, then My Mister is the show for you. Personally like My Mister the most - was my favorite drama before this came out. The main actor was in Parasite (the rich dad). Unfortunately, he's no longer with us.

What an amazing series, such a great episode and an amazing reaction! I can’t believe I was almost going to miss out on such a great drama if you hadn’t decided to react to it. I hope the next series will be Extraordinary Attorney Woo or Twinkling Watermelon. I know you’re comfortable with uploading one episode per week, but I really hope you could make it two episodes a week. Four months to finish 16 episodes feels very long, especially since there are so many dramas people are excited to see your reactions to. If you continue at this pace, you’ll probably only finish around 3 dramas a year.

10:29 – “She is 37 now?” — Yep, that’s the power of Asian genes, Cannon 😅 Many Koreans look incredibly young even in their 40s! “I love seeing them live their life” – Me too! Though it’s kind of sad that they only get to do that in their 50s and 60s 😩 31:48 – “Dude, she wants to go to China and all this stuff with him” — Cannon was so relatable in his frustration 😭😭 Carter and Cannon both fighting back tears at 33:09 was relatable too! 47:13 – “THIS IS HORRIBLE!” — Once again, I completely agree. I was writing this comment while crying nonstop for a good 20 minutes at that point. “In our next life I will keep five, no, ten promises” — That line absolutely broke me. Carter felt it too at 55:11! 59:28 – “She needs to smile even if it’s impossible” – I was sobbing along with all the characters 😭😭😭 It’s genuinely impossible not to cry during Gwan-sik’s final moments… “Thank you, honey. You’ve lived a good life. A truly great life.” – Carter is a mess, and I’m a mess too 😭😭😭

Honestly, I was sure Cannon would be the one crying the most, but surprisingly it was Carter! Every time I looked at his face, he was basically my reflection — just more restrained. Halfway through the episode, I gave up, went to find a handkerchief, and spent the rest of the time blowing my nose and wiping away constant tears. “It’s gonna be the most beautiful show I ever see” – I think many of us feel the same way! I’m watching it with you guys, but I’d heard so many great things about “When Life Gives You Tangerines” ever since it aired. I kept stopping myself from watching it because I knew it would be heartbreaking and emotionally exhausting, and my reality was already tough enough. But when you suddenly started reacting to it, I took it as a sign that the time had finally come! I’m honestly shocked that I’ve managed to wait every week instead of watching ahead on my own. Though that’s probably because I know I’d cry during almost every episode, so I don’t feel the need to rush. And the plot twist that Ae-sun’s mother was reincarnated and literally became the publisher of her poetry book was so touching and heartwarming! They even brought that storyline full circle 😭😭😭 Overall, I bawled my eyes out for about an hour out of this hour-and-twenty-minute episode. Pure torture, but meaningful torture indeed!

P. S. Even When Life Gives You Tangerines couldn’t break McKay and make him cry. Honestly, if this show couldn’t do it, I don’t think anything ever will. At this point we may have to accept that seeing McKay openly crying on camera is simply a pipe dream.

Twinkling Watermelon would be SUCH a fun one to watch next. It’s a slight tonal shift from WLGYT, being lighthearted, funny, and wholesome. It can be a little cheesy at times because it really leans into the comedy, but that’s part of its charm. The concept is unique, the character dynamics are amazing, and the message at the heart of the story is so well done. There’s a reason it’s so highly praised. Plus you’d get to see some familiar faces that I know you guys already love 🤭

I’m so grateful to everyone who recommended this show and the GEKs for picking it up. I’m not into slice-of-life, so this isn’t the type of show I would normally watch, but I’m so glad I did. This journey was both emotionally exhausting and healing. There were so many themes that resonated with me, I cried every episode (glad it was only once I week). The resilience of these characters and the love they had for each other was so inspiring and beautiful. I’m going to miss them.
