Guess watching the first OP paid off lmao. Having it play in the background adds this neat thematic callback and closure to the finale, with Joseph taking down the mask’s creator, the catalyst that in a way started this whole story. Absolute cinema. The ending felt sadder for me than the first part's finale. Watching Jonathan die was sad and in contrast everyone involved here got a happy ending but witnessing the old guard disappear with Erina and the iconic Speedwagon's death, can't lie it made my heart hurt a little. Add to that goated Stroheim dying so quickly after these events... it's so beautifully bittersweet. All delivered with the perfect amount of comedy too. Can't wait for what's to come next. The Jojo journey has only just begun👮

I don't think this is a spoiler to say that Part 3 is kinda the part that like, made Jojo what it is. All of them build on what came before, but Part 3 does mark a turning point- not that that subtracts from anything you've experienced in Part 1 and Part 2.

After finishing the first season double feature with parts 1 and 2, the boys have acquired the taste for JoJo. You're in a for an entire journey, because every single part of the series is genuinely so distinct that they might as well be their own thing. For a series that's been published in Shonen Jump since 1986 and continues running until TODAY, it's not only been keeping up but has often been ahead of it's time conceptually. For reference the first chapter of One Piece (1997 -- the first episode of the anime would come in 1999) came out smack dab in the middle of Part 5's manga publication (1995-1999); and I consider that part to be one of the peaks of the battle shonen genre in it's entire history.

icl the whole end fight with joseph and kars was mainly what made me drop jojos the first time (got like 10 eps in part 3) , his hand just being shot up by the volcano exactly to kars neck and that being what gets him didnt hit for me at all 😭 but on this rewatch its for sure a little better and the way everything else resolved after was nice , going to keep watching along with geks and itll maybe convert me (really mostly intrigued to watch parts 4 and 5) , the rewatch for the most part has been fun 😌

I think having the deciding strike be a simple "gotcha" like we had already seen countless times from Joseph instead of the thematic payoff we got would have been slightly disappointing. Against a God mere intellect isn't enough. Joseph couldn't beat him like he usually does (by planning everything meticulously) but he beat him by having this almost divinely inspired idea of taking up the red stone of Aya, allowing for the earth do to it's job. Kars sought to rise above nature, kars got banned from the earth by the earth itself for his hubris.

That is precisely the running gag. The author isn't trying to make Joseph's tricks seem grounded here. Ofc the show adds it's own comedic spin to it, cause it's jojo, so it pushes Joseph's arm into the atmosphere right into Kars's throat. Which is stupid and funny but in line with the tone of the part. But yes the arm being shot up into the sky is also part of this twist of fate. And everything I've explained here is literally what the show itself tells us. This isn't even a matter of interpretation; it's stated outright in the final two episodes. We've already talked about this on Discord, actually. I remember the discussion, and I basically said the same thing back then. I'll repost my message here: "The whole point of the fights in Part 2 is Joseph’s “ass-pulls”. The grenades in Straizo’s scarf in episode 2 are a perfect example of that, and even Hamon itself is built on a series of asspull-like moments because the inner workings of the power are ambiguous. It’s intentional, the appeal comes from how absurd, creative, and self-aware it is, while still remaining internally consistent. Now, the finale between Kars and Joseph ends through what could initially look like a chain of fortunate coincidences, if it weren't for the narrator and Joseph themselves adding meaning to those events. The meaning being that Kars has gotten too powerful to be defeated by anything or anyone in the world, so the world itself effectively removes him. A major theme at play here is fate, in a way that strongly recalls Greek mythology. The idea of a character with excessive hubris being punished by the gods, nature, or destiny is also a recurring motif in both Greek and biblical mythology (Prometheus, Icarus...). That’s exactly the idea Araki wanted to evoke here, which is substantiated by the fact that Kars is not simply killed, but subjected to a form of tragic irony: he achieves the very immortality he sought, and that “reward” becomes his punishment. This outcome is only possible because of the powers he acquired. It’s a clear case of tragic irony. He can't die and so he has to stay in this state of limbo for all of eternity." Of course, there's never a literal divine entity shown punishing Kars. Instead, it's the narrator who frames the events in those terms, almost as though he's interpreting them for the audience. And that's very likely what Araki was aiming for: a conclusion that remains ambiguous within the world of the story, just as real-life events can be interpreted as dumb luck or meaningful, while simultaneously elevating Jojo's trademark absurdity into something mythological and heroic.
