All hail Ulf the Targaryen

No Tap

Helaena stepping up to Rhaenyra was my favorite scene of the episode

DonDuh103

Otto should have been king

jblakk

The blueballing (pun intended) of us Daeron stans continues! This episode was great for my nerd taste. I could watch 8 hours of kings landing decision making and table talks lol PS: Yall shouldnt have to explain your otto take. He was good TV even if hes a bad guy. Yall were the same with Joffery. Despite their evil, you miss them a little. They were cinema.

saida

i just finished the greatest england match i have ever watched and i am EXHAUSTED!!! no clue what goes on in this episode (haven’t watched it yet) but something tells me ulf is acting up…. it’s coming home kiddos, FOOTBALL’S COMING HOME!!! okay, night night!

Bob

jojo not happening?

Ana

I can miss Joffrey but Otto never eeeeyuck

Anya

"I didn't expect this peace" oh sweet summer child

Anya

I love Cannon's hype for Daeron lol Helaena and Daeron are the only greens I like! Interesting theories btw haha

ItsyaboyJABBER

Emma D’arcy supremacy. Like such an amazing actor

Marsuvies Black

Joffrey is way worse at least Otto was a smart.

Ana

Did my comment get hidden? I didn’t say anything 😭😭

Anya

In the book Rhaenyra did legitimize Alyn and Addam

Amna

UMMM THAT'S NOT MY CORLYS. So basically in the books, Alyn and Addam were legitimized BEFORE jace dies and he actually convinces rhaenyra to legitimize them so this isn't even an issue in the books. Corlys also never had an issue with rhaenyra's son and has always accepted them as his grandsons. He was deeply saddened by both Lucerys and Jace dying.

Warsame

A day in a life of Rhaneyra Tageryen ✌🏾💀

Amna

"Will you blame me only for what men have done" now alicient be so for real

Jack

Indeed

Anya

I thought yall knew Daeron was the one behind Ormund the first time we saw him 😭

Amna

"You killed my father" Its almost like he went against the king's words and committed treason. Mind you, Otto killed lords who refused to bend the knee to Aegon and decided to keep their oath. Wasn't alicient's whole deal going to dragonstone and talking to Rhaenyra was that she would hand over Aegon?? Why is she surprised that Rhaenyra wants to kill him

Jack

Uhh guess it’s a double drop tomorrow

Tyler

Just give Emma all the awards! I know I’m probably in the minority but I wish we got more episodes like this, for me the political game going on and the dozens of moving pieces is just as interesting as dragon fights

Jack

Bruhhhh what????? I get that it’s good drama but why make us mad at Rhaenyra when the source material was the opposite

Jack

That is so lame

Jack

We knew it wasn’t truly peace

Jack

We haven’t touched the comments, dunno what’s going on with your comment

Jack

The guys were saying oh that’s Daeron, I didn’t say anything because idk what he looks like, so idk 🤷‍♂️

Ana

Because unfortunately Jack they screwed a lot of the material in season 2 and they are playing catch up now

Ana

Yeah I didn’t think you guys did. So weird lol but it was super long comment but I’m not retyping all that again 😭😭😂😂

Amna

Actually, the dragons in asoiaf do bring good and are a positive thing. They can be used for bad depending on their riders but the dragons themselves have a positive effect in the world. See this is why I wished David and Dan included the magic in GOT and how the dragons being gone affected their world negatively😭 dany bringing them back awakened the magic in asoiaf and it's super important

DonDuh103

The Game Of Rats beings🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀

DonDuh103

I think they call that kind of meal Ratatouille😭😭

Amna

"I hope she wins an emmy" SAME CANNON! Emma has been killing it😮‍💨

DonDuh103

Also Jack and Carter are locked in👏👏👏

luiel

Day 18 of asking studio gek to react to epic the musical

Amna

SEE THIS IS WHY SOME CHANGES SHOULDN'T BE MADE. Jace going against Rhaenyra's orders and the council allowing it resulted in her not having a council in King's Landing.....that never happens in the books. Some of these changes simply don't make sense.

Anya

Beautiful shot at the end with Rhaenyra and the Hightower banners burning. Her eyes and mindset conveys fire and blood to me. Sad though because she's trying her best to be peaceful but you can see the paranoia and mistrust growing. Heavy is the crown!

McKay Carter

I guess sometimes they don’t go through? That’s so weird

Anya

JAAACCKK you don't even know the half of it! 😭😭 they changed so much!

Anya

Yes one of you said it!

Lexi Browning

Never apologize for being the smartest in the room. Rhaenyra shouldn’t have killed Otto

Amna

Just a reminder, Rhaenyra's sons are legally legitimate. Many don't understand this 🫩

kami

I loved this episode just the good old political game

Anya

Damn Jack why you gotta mention episode 3 at the end 😔 yes it's inevitable and it hurts so much more if you watch the clone wars 💔😭

Amna

Guys grrm has released lore books! We've been telling you to watch history and lore on youtube😭

Zess

He still cares about them, he's just calling Rhaenyra out for her hypocrisy.

Jones

This is completely unrelated to this show but are y’all done with extraordinary attorney woo? I don’t mean to be dramatic about it. I’ve just watched people drop shows before without saying anything. So are y’all or is the schedule changing and it’s no biggie?

Luna

Are y’all still continuing attorney woo

BipolarKitten

The sound design of this episode is chef's kiss

aya

Alicent being so dumb 😭😭 What was she expecting? She literally sacrificed her whole family and only asked for mercy for herself, Helaena, and Jaehaera

Arctic_stark

There are lore books for this series. Ya'll should get your hands on a copy of The World of Ice and Fire. It has descriptions for all the different places on Essos, and other continents as well. It also has a history of each of the different regions of Westeros, starting from all the way back in the Dawn Age before Men reached Westeros.

Dani

I think this genuinely one of the best episodes of hotd so far. The entire episode felt like a panic attack. Incredible writing and directing.

Alan

Dude I’m 30 minutes in and my cortisol has been spiked this whole episode what a nightmare

Lothbrok

This show has become so garbage lmao

SammiewiththebigT

Yeah, lmao. I was about to say. Joffrey was way worse than Otto and he is missed?

Arctic_stark

I am surprised that Daemon’s suggestion didn’t get more attention or interest from Rhaenyra. He goes a little overboard talking about Yi-Ti, but it’s not unreasonable to extract tribute from the Triarchy for all the damage decades of war in the Stepstones and now destroying the Velaryon fleet have cost. Send a message that six dragons will show up to each of the Tyrosh, Lys and Myr if there isn’t regular tribute as reparations for the next 20 years or something. Similarly Pentos was already wanting to make Daemon a lord there for his protection. Guarantee them the Iron Throne’s protection in exchange for money.

Ace

Rhaenyra didn’t legitimize Corlys’ sons right away because she didn’t even have the kingdom yet. She hadn’t even been crowned, and everything was still a mess with the claims, the war, and everyone challenging her rule. The very first thing a new queen is going to do isn’t legitimize bastards. That would be a terrible first royal decree. So I actually think she was right to wait. Also, Corlys calling Rhaenyra’s sons bastards is incredibly hypocritical considering he has bastards of his own. The difference is that Rhaenyra’s children were acknowledged by Laenor and by the king, while Corlys only acknowledged his own sons at the very end. That sudden switch in his attitude feels really weird.

Ace

the Alicent/Rhaenyra relationship is honestly starting to annoy me. Alicent acts like she’s in a position to lecture the queen when so much of this situation exists because of her own choices. At this point, I really think their relationship needs to come to an end because it’s just going in circles.

S K

When exactly did u get that he hates her sons in this ep?? He calls them something that he calls his own sons, he says he accepted them when he didn’t need to, I think u need to watch it again

S K

There’s no real source material it’s just a maesters interpretation of what happened in that worlds history, yes it’s an easy out for the show but that’s what was intended, the show would be the canon for once

jed d'angelo

Jack that guy is from Andor. Hes Casian’s friend the big dude who takes care of Marv when Casian has to run away.

saida

mckay you hater!!!! we shall see :))

S K

If they didn’t kill Otto none of this would’ve happened as they could’ve tortured the location of the gold out of him

Mitch

Horrible bait

Afra

So glad to be back!!

Daniella

I think this is one of my favourite episodes i love what they’re doing with Rhaenyra and her psyche, Emma Darcy is absolutely killing it. I love people calling them Emmy Darcy 🤣

Daniella

To play devil’s advocate about Corlys and Rhaenyra, if she did legitimise Alyn and especially Addam what’s to stop Ulf and Hugh from asking her to legitimise them too? Obviously they have no highborn father asking her to do this but they’re related to her by blood, Hugh is her first cousin removed and Ulf is supposedly Daemon’s half-brother. Again she could easily say no, but both of them have dragons which do play into the politics of it all. Once you start legitimising bastards, claims to the throne become very messy and it’s what Jace essentially warned her about in s2. I do think Rhaenyra should do it out of good faith but also i think Corlys is pushing for this because of his legacy and his house name dying out. Tbh if she lost him as an ally it wouldn’t mean much power wise because he has nothing left, but she did it in the books so the hesitation is unnecessary.

TheBookerDeWitt

Lord Ormund gave me frosted tips, mi-lord

Lothbrok

Not bait buddy

Amna

Why are we acting like him calling rhaenyra's sons that is normal or acceptable?? Especially in front of other people in the castle. She's Queen now, what he said was essentially treason

Ante

They had that one brown-haired kid with Ormund mean mugging the camera in episode 1, so as soon as I saw the blondie this episode, I was like that's not Daeron. Even more so when they refused to speak. Surprised a good few people didn't suspect anything until the end.

jblakk

Oh brother not the "IN THE BOOKS" stuff again. Yall need to stop telling show onlies this propoganda especially when youre going to be biased about giving the information. If you read Fire&Blood you should know why theyre making this change. Plus like SK said, Corlys doesnt hate Rhanyras sons. Before calling Luce a bastard he said he STILL made him his heir showing that them being bastards didnt matter.

Amna

How is it biased lol? It's literally what happened. She DID legitimize them. "Not the in the books stuff" lol this is a adaption. People are going to compare if the adaption is bad💀 Not you repeating another comment🤓 either way like I responded to SK, he's essentially committing treason by calling her sons bastards in public in front of the court. It would be different if it was a private conversation but even then. Is not like Rhaenyra denied legitimizing them, she just wants to delay until things are more organized

jblakk

No one said it wasnt treason. SK and I are just saying it doesnt mean he hates Rhaes kids like you falsely complained about. Speaking of treason (Dont read the rest Jack & Show onlies) Corlys ends up committing treason by telling Addam to flee after Rhaenyra gets paranoid. So you see, when you have to adapt a fictional history book into an actual narrative theres this thing called forshadowing and build up that you must do. And so this is the forshadowing to Rhaenyra and Corlys eventual friction and betrayal. In the books they use words like Corlys petitioned, and that Rhaenyra "complied". Its vague. So although she does legitimatize them, its vague enough where its possible that her doing so wasnt so smooth, and in the show she can still do it, its only been one episode. Additionally, in another post below you complain about the change of Rhae leaving her council at dragonstone. SURELY you know why the book made that change. SURELY you know what type of consequences that could happen and surely you know what its forshadowing. Just because a change is made doesnt make it bad. TV and Books are different and they have different narrative needs. Without these changes the final act will have people saying, "why did they betray her?"...no one will be confused about that now. So in conclusion, my point is you telling show onlies every minor change in the books compared to the show can confuse them especially when your reason for bringing up the difference is your own false understanding of Corlys as a character. You took this change as making corlys worse and a bad person who committed treason when in reality it made him more human and a man who is willing to risk it all to fix his mistake of being an absent father.

Sock

Really because it actually made me mad

Sock

Booo Mexico should've won😔

No Tap

I couldn't care less, seeing Heleana actually behave somewhat like a normal human/character was enough for me.

julian

They speak too formal in this show for me GOT knew the balance but here its too much.

Warsame

y’all are way too soft on Rhaenyra 😭. She’s the queen. People keep saying, “She’s stressed” or “read the room, okay?? Isn’t this the position she’s been fighting for this whole time? DO YOUR JOB And the Corlys situation made no sense to me. Jace and Luke are dead, so why does it even matter now if they were “true” Velaryons or not? Corlys literally said his bloodline would die out, but Joffrey is still the heir and will take the tageryen namne also Baela and Rhaena are tageryens in blod and name So what dose coryls have except alyen and Adam he’s putting he’s own house in the first place Finally like is Brother did in season 1 Also, taking all the nobles’ money was such a bad move. You’re literally giving rich and powerful people a reason to turn against you. When Aemond, Aegon, Daeron, and Ormund show up, who do you think those lords are gonna support? The queen who took everything from them and left them with rats, or the side that let them keep their wealth?

Sock

Off topic but will y'all be watching Obsession?

Coconut

No jojo?

Nana_44

Yes I want them to watch it so bad lol! It’s literally so popular rn and most reaction channels have seen it, so I’m waiting on them 🤣

saida

they literally had everything stacked for them and against england. too bad they didn’t have jude bellingham 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Nomaan

Dany and her dragons are literally seen as saviours by the slaves and the red priests across all over essos in the books especially. Can’t wait for her to visit Volantis in TWOW

charlie

Loved the sound design in this episode

Kaykay

doubtful, he was in a dungeon for a while, if Alicent or even Orwyle didn't know I would be pressed to believe that Otto would know, or am I missing something?

Amna

Idk why you're posting spoilers because I know what happens in the books🫩 "falsely accused" this is a fictional character💀 corlys is ambitious and self interested in the books, I just did not like how they decided to do that scene when it wasn't an issue in the books. Jace convinces her, matter of the fact is she did legitimize them. That's not me showing bias🫩 People are allowed to dislike an adaption the same way people are allowed to like it. If you like it, that's fine, I did not. Reasons are given in the books for their betrayal. I don't understand why people can't accept the fact that her being a woman was enough for people to go against her. It's also interesting how you guys have no problem with changes and bad writing when it comes to Rhaenyra but got forbid the same happens with tg characters. "Every minor change" i pointed out one or two changes and you're losing your mind lol. I'm providing some context and the geks don't seem to mind it, idk why you're completely losing it just because I provided the actual canon context. Like my bad for having a different opinion and pov than yours. In conclusion, i understood perfectly corlys' point but it's still hypocritical and wrong of him to yell and humilliate rhaenyra in public about the children he happily claimed before because he had a personal interest in them, one of which died defending his fleet

Anya

Saida representing her beans on toast

Amna

I BLAME D&D

Anya

You're banned Ana! 😂

Anya

Same! I thought one of them would call him out as an imposter because I remember one of them saying the brown haired kid was Daeron. Ig they were just guessing last time.

Anya

Yess that's Brasso!

Anya

Her character pmo and so far her scenes makes no sense to me like it's just being added in to include her

saida

alwaysssss anya!!!! 🫘 🍞!!!

TheSauceGuy

City of the Winged Men mentioned!

TheSauceGuy

Vaemond was killed for what Corlys said, but Corlys has every right to be pissed.

TheSauceGuy

Cannon, I don't think Ormund is a dual-wielder (I really hope not). I imagine it's just a rondel dagger to be used against armored opponents. Daggers were incredibly useful in grapples, which happened often. Also, Arthur Dayne being a dual-wielder in the show was goofy imo, as it's really just not practical. In tHe bOoKs, he wields his house's ancestral greatsword, Dawn. It is said to be forged from the metal of a fallen star and is on par with or superior to Valyrian Steel, while being as "pale as milkglass." Unlike many other house's swords, Dawn isn't handed down to each heir. It can only be wielded by a knight of House Dayne who has been deemed worthy. The show made Dawn appear as a regular longsword.

TheSauceGuy

Oh Geks, there's only one more season after this one! S4 will probably be insane if this season ends where I think it will.

Zess

She didnt take their money, she took their food they stole from the common people during the blockade.

Warsame

The outcome well still Be the same food or money

Zess

I disagree with Corlys losing most of his power so its not a big loss if hes gone. He still is a commander of an entire navy force, and his family is still alive with the name and it's history. Is he weakened? Absolutely, but he's lost a building and some heirs, while having illegitimate ones available with one being a dragon rider. Grandfather to 2 more dragon riders as well. It would be horrible optics to betray such a loyal and well respected family whos had your back and sacrifice so much to get you back on your throne, while also being deeply entwined with your own family by blood. Who would be loyal to you after seeing all that play out? lol his castle can be rebuilt, he definitely has plenty left in name alone and so much more.

Zess

Your interpretation is correct Kay, he definitely wouldnt know being locked in a dungeon for who knows how long lol

Zess

I dont know why people are confused with him calling them bastards, he's literally pointing out her hypocrisy in the situation lol he's obviously aware his 2 sons are bastards? He's pointing out to her that he's done everything shes wanted with her bastard sons, being a caring grandfather and approving of the marriages between the 2 families, fully aware those kids were not his own son's. He's legitimized them himself, and pointing out to Rhaenyra that she has been in the same situation, but isnt willing to do it for him after he gave her his all and being in such a damaged and desperate situation. To him, she's basically written the death of his family name by not giving him assurance, even if delayed.

Ace

Him lashing out like that felt really out of character. I completely understand Corlys’ feelings, but I thought he would be a bit more aware of the situation and understand Rhaenyra’s position. Legitimizing them right away would have been a huge mistake, especially considering everything she’s dealing with. That being said, I really hope she still does it eventually because Corlys’ children deserve it. It’s just his reaction immediately shouting and lashing out that felt very sudden and out of character for him.

jrnoodles

Thanks Geks! This episode was so stressful, so much so I found myself not enjoying it! It was so dreadful! Also, holy Emma D'arcy is beautiful in this episode.

Anya

SAIDAAA USA IS OUT 😭 I'm gonna root for England now 😂

S K

I believe u are missing something didn’t he say him and tyland would split the gold in like s1 e9

S K

He’s literally the one who took it he said so in 1x9

Madison

I loved the focus on Rhaenyra

Daniella

I just meant in the short-term his army has depleted and the triarchy sacked his castle, most likely taking everything Corlys had. We don't know how much he's actually lost so I can't say for sure whether he still has anything left to contribute in terms of resources, but i agree that the Velaryons are Rhaenyra's greatest allies and it would very silly of her not do this for him because in the long-term it will backfire especially as the war isn't over yet and there's no other major house backing her apart from the Starks.

Jenny D

This was such a great episode. You can really feel the anxiety and paranoia that Rhanerya is feeling. I had a feeling that the kid was not really Daeron. I assume they took his dragon, but I can also see Daemon not worrying about it because Tessarion is still young. The rate dinner scene was gross, but it was great. It sucks to piss off the nobles but to hoard food while others are starving is not right. Reminded me of CoVID and when people were hoarding stuff. I get your point about Otto. He played his character well, but he also was a big factor in putting the realm in this state. Excited for the next episode!

saida

JOIN USSSS!! commiserations only to you, mckay can suck it :)

S Moonchild⁷

Why is it so sad to see another Queen go into madness of some sorts. I knew Rhaenyra wasn't dealt the best cards, but should all women go crazy when they are in power in this reality.

Delmeezy

we need to see more of the walking dead, i can't wait to see yall's reaction to the later seasons it gets soo good.

This is Daniel

I think Rhanerya didn't grant titles to Corlys' children, because she knows how powerful the Valaryon name is. Tradition goes a long way and King's Landing feels too unstable for a perceived instability within the monarchy.

TheIronSuitor

GUUUYYSYSYYS@@@@@!!!! He's From Good Luck Chuck!!!!!! OMG ITS HIM!!!!!! LORD MANDERY GUY

Avital Lockhart

HEAVY IS THE CROWN 52:30 Carter read my mind my god LOL

Avital Lockhart

She couldn't bear sleeping in the bed that her father died on... ugh so sad

Avital Lockhart

I think she is right. She will do it later, whats the rush now, when everything is boiling?

Anya

Idk if you read the book but it's one of many changes I don't like. Based on the changes they made and where the story is going I can see why they did it. (I will not elaborate to avoid spoilers) With these changes in the show yes Rhaenyra is right not to legitimize them until she cements herself as queen.

Yhwach

Rhaenyra is just as terrible if not more as Aegon. The Dance happened because both were terrible.

Sari-chan

Being royalty seems like hell. The best you can hope for is being married to other Houses just for strategy, but you may just be killed by your own family, and be hated just for being born in that family.

Sari-chan

I wish Rhaenyra would not explain herself. She is the Queen. She should have waited to get crowned and legitimized before dealing with other issues.

Amna

The dance happened because they didn't want to see a woman on the throne and committed treason by going against the king's words and then usurping. AND then kinslaying and throwing a feast celebrating their nephew's death. Rhaenyra def made mistakes and is a flawed character but let's actually be so for real. The dance doesn't happen if Rhaenyra wasn't a woman.

Amna

Their legitimacy is never questioned by the King, Laenor, Corlys or Daemon. This makes it treason to question their legitimacy. If one of them came forward to question it then that would cause an issue but since none of them do, it makes them legally legitimate.

astra

Just a small fyi that Emma D’arcy is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns :)

Dreamknight942

Did she really step up? Or just say something because she didn’t understand the ramifications of what she was saying? I think she said it innocently

Dreamknight942

Not right away at least. More bargaining power as a living prisoner

Elle

We were robbed 💔💔💔

Etain

This episode reminds me of Mayor Mamdani of NYC. He is Rhaenyra. Fighting for the smallfolk and in turn upsetting the rich

Avital Lockhart

I read it and stopped in the middle, it was so different that i got a bit lost trying to compare it. i'll finish it when show is over.

Brett

Nah, I don't care, Jack is sus. I watched this episode before and knew rats were given and he guessed it like that, nahhh. JK, love you Jack
