Y'know sometimes I think I am too judgmental of newer shows. But I've been rewatching a ton of my old favourites, and now with TWD on here. I feel like the dialogue diff is just so clear! If I had to think about it I'd say maybe there is more reliance nowadays on shock factor and clippable moments, but dialogue is still king imo. Just listening to Dale myself and bouncing from "This isn't Disneyland Dale!" to "F*ck maybe he's right". If a show can grip me from start to finish with just dialogue it's an insta-fave. I can enjoy shows with the other stuff as well, but my hall of fame are all yap fests. Usually when I start to feel like this, that means its time to rewatch The Wire.

The moral discussion is fascinating and both sides are correct. Keeping your humanity is important but you also have to acclimate to the new world. There has to be a balance. I like how they used Dale and Carl. Dale represents the old world and is compassionate. Carl is becoming a pragmatist in this new world and what the next generation can become.

Carl's realistic though. Kids are naturally curious, and everyone is trying to keep him sheltered from the ugly stuff, he was always going to look for it on his own, eventually. Especially after losing Sophia. He has no peers now, he spends a lot of time on his own. Definitely needs some better adult supervision tho

I gotta say, morality and humanity are big themes in this show but people are using their own frame of reference a lot. Is it fair to compare our idea of morality where we live in a modern, civilized society, with the morality of Amazon tribes, for example, where essentials are food, water and shelter? I think the people in this show belong to the latter, and surely in a new world order where you are literally fighting for your survival, living day-to-day, morality is bound to warp A LOT. I think people often judge the choices and actions of the characters using the morality of today as a reference, instead of judging them as products of their immediate environment. Therefore, I think I might be the only person to dislike Dale cuz he just doesn't seem to get it lol

R.I.P. Dale. You were one of my favorites when the show was airing. In the comics, he survives until season 5, but the actor playing him wanted to be killed off after AMC fired his friend, who was the original showrunner. In the comics, Dale and Andrea have a different kind of relationship. The show more or less has father/daughter vibes, but in the comics they get together and even adopt some kids who were in the original Antlanta group.

Idk, I have 2 different sets of earbuds I use, and they’re both quiet. The only time I can hear them well is when I’m on my pc with my gaming headphones. Yea, I have seen a couple of seasons of the show and it really falls off a cliff later. Think i stopped after season 5 or something. Pretty big writing issues and it just seamed like they have unlimited ammo in the show at all times. You would think they would be alot more alert after everything that has happened but no. Not a single person on guard duty on night time it seams. More fences, traps etc

The issue is that their reactions are often WAYYYY louder than the show/movie, so I turn them up to hear the show/movie too, but my ears bleed profusely (joke) if they yell. It's more of a balancing issue to me than it being too quiet imo. It's not like I can't just turn it up or anything for them specifically.

Carl is definitely partially at fault, but that walker could've been antagonized enough to free itself by any person or animal nearby that got its attention. Also, the fact that the cow was being eaten without ANYONE noticing throughout the latter portion of the day is kinda crazy. Should the cows not be kept somewhere safer at night? They clearly don't have enough effort being put into monitoring the land, however vast it may be.

Dale's tirade is nice and all, but so annoyingly over-idealistic and removed from the practical reality they're living in. I do like how his character, an old man in his last days, represents the dying remnants of civilization and the "old world", which is very blatant this episode with his speech and then death. He lives a lot longer in the comics though. Ends up in a relationship with Andrea rather than being her father figure. I heard they killed him off early because of a behind-the-scenes dispute with the showrunners.

Carl and Sophie are their humanity, part of it died with Sophie showing unjust world and the part that was left is slowly changing. We think children don't notice anything, but he sees it all, all stress, discussions, arguments, death. And they are not doing their job in protecting that innocence. Carl being for death shows how bad the group is turning to be. Some might argue we don't need humanity in that world, Carl's progression shows what that world does to people. I remember Dale, after 10 years, I wished he knew they didn't kill Randall.

Dale had a solid argument but unfortunately it’s outdated in the world that they have. The old world that they knew IS dead, this new world IS survival of the fittest. You have to play by new rules in the new world just like everybody who isn’t you is doing. You can still have morals but they can be used as weaknesses. You have to adapt but also find a line you won’t cross. Dale said if they kill him, there is no civilization and that doesn’t make any sense because execution has been a part of civilization since the very beginning. I understand that Dale was trying to hold onto the old way of thinking but in these circumstances the old way could get you and everyone you care about killed. You can’t take chances anymore. Given everything we learned about Randall and what he did, executing him was the right call.

Just an FYI the reason Randall told Daryl that story about the teen girls and their dad at the beginning because he was trying to 'tempt' Daryl basically, because that's the kind of group they are. He thought because of how Daryl looks, etc that maybe he's that way too. When he saw that Daryl wasn't having it, he hurried up and said that he didn't do anything (I'd bet the whole farm he did), because Randall grossly misjudged Daryl's character and moral code. Ya, I get it Randall's 'a kid' according to Dale, but not THAT much of a kid, he's around 21-22 (Maggie and Glenn's age) and he certainly could be dangerous. He didn't HAVE to stay with that bad group but he chose to until they ditched him. ************ I love Dale and how he wants to remain good and just, but he really is too blind to holding on the the ways of the 'old world'. You can NOT do things now they way you used to. Some chances can not be taken, some risks are too great. There are less than half the population of humans left in the world, you HAVE to look out for your own group. It's amazing you see how quickly, with one real taste of new 'real world' Hershel accepted it, adapted, and could handle it. But Dale couldnt, didn't want to, doesn't matter. That overly-moral thinking in the new world can get good people killed and leave your group in a bad place.

I honestly put more blame for Carl on LORI. She just never, ,ever watches him. Hes a naturally mischievous kid and there's no other kids to play with, no tv or games or school or anything to occupy him. Kids will find ways to get into trouble when very bored and unsupervised. Rick is busy out 'being the leader' and doing things around the farm, its his 'job' now. Lori's job is still basically what it was before the fall, housework/domestic stuff. So cooking, cleaning, etc AND that includes taking care of Carl and KEEPING AN EYE ON HIM and knowing where he's at. She also never enforces when she tells him to go in the house, then he turns up where he isn't supposed to be, she never yells or punishes him, she just ignores it. Lori does a ton of work around the place for the group, she does. But she is not the best mother. She loves Carl but she cannot handle doing anything else and watching him at the same time (and she's having another kid now sheesh). I don't know why Rick doesn't get on her about this. It's his kid and he needs to feel confident that when he's out doing his 'work', his kid is going to be properly looked after. He really needs to give Lori hell about that. (There's implications in the comic that Lori had this problem even before the apocalypse, if I remember right.)

daryl saying "your boys trying to take this farm" The guys were requesting to stay in the farm multiple times. Sometimes I feel like it was added for plot sign. Carl annoyed me this episode, losing a whole weapon with a magazine when it's already scarce and that zombie coming back and killing dale, who was such a great character with his dialogues
