Carter, those videos where the PNG is chasing a person that you mentioned are sometimes in the Backrooms, so if they remind you of this, it's because they're from what this film was based on. The game is usually Garry's Mod, and I noticed the doors in this film use the same sounds from Garry's Mod, or rather Half Life 2, which Garry's Mod shares a game engine with (insert nerd emoji).

Damn I'm kinda surprised you guys hadn't heard about what the Backrooms is before watching this. If you didn't already know the director Kane Parsons (hes 21 years old) made found footage of the Backrooms based on the already existing internet lore and uploaded them to youtube when he was super young. He also made Attack on Titan historical footage, which captures the events of the rumbling from a live action WW2 kind of perspective.

It's left entirely open-ended. It's also ironic that he can enter and leave the Backrooms freely, but he cannot enter or leave his own home freely.

If you think about it, the way they ended the movie is very smart. The backrooms are very asymmetrical so why would they make the movie symmetrical? That's why the movie started with Clark then it ended so quickly and continued with Mary. It's like she was always the main character but are any of them the main character? Everything is just hazy and asymmetrical, it feels like a disturbed mental state. I really enjoyed this from so many aspects.

My third watch through because of this reaction, and the biggest thing that I’ve noticed, not on specifically this watch, but from rewatching this after seeing it the first time, it gets a lot better imo. The reason I feel like obsession out did this movie is because it’s more relatable and a more realistic theme, of romance vs love and consequences of misinterpreting them, compared to backrooms. For one the context makes it more niche, but I feel the themes in this movie, I would argue are deeper, but not really, more just less relatable because not many people think about it, which is shown since most of the time they are talked about in some form, the psychiatrist is speaking. Those monologues of her voice with shots playing in the background was some of the most important dialogue within the film, and never caught it till the second watch through, and it made the experience a lot better for me. It had been a very long time, years, since I’ve been to the movie theater, and both those movies going 3 times between the two have made me want to start doing it more often.

Geks, have any of you seen Requiem for a Dream? It’s one of the best, if not the greatest psychological drama/horror movies of all time and in the top 100 movies of all time. It’s not new but it is a must watch. Your reactions to that would be amazing, recorded or not. It has probably the most recognizable score of all time. Fun fact: An orchestral variation of the theme Lux Aeterna was re-arranged and titled "Requiem for a Tower used in the theatrical teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Although the videos made by Kane Parsons on youtube are more horror you guys should definitely check it out. A lot of people were complaining about the more psychological elements but I really liked it, it wasn't a cliche monster movie and I liked the deep dive into the psyches of both Clarke and Mary. Also there is a LOT more to see with the backrooms, I loved the christmas tree room but that's not even the creepiest place, liminal spaces are my roman empire lol.

i think its a manifestation of the subconscious. I wrote down a dream the other night and i was suprised at how similar dream landscapes are. a very destinct feature of dreams is that you see faces distorted. like the idea of a face. same with everything else realy. so i think the backrooms is kinda a depiction of it. Also Clarks first description of himself was that he hurts people. So it makes sense that the backrooms remembered him as a violent character.

Kane Parsons was 16 years old in high school cooking up short found footage horrer films on YouTube, little did he know how much they would blow up, amazing seeing how far his imagination got him. I hope this motivates more aspiring young directors who might not have the drive or confidence in making their dreams a reality. So much passion and talent being ignored by greedy corporate scumbags

There are plenty of people who find hiding within their subconscious to be the best & safest option vs actually examining their own biases & finding other ways to function, especially in relation to others. A lot of self centered people only seek therapy when huge life altering changes occur (like marriages ending) to find advice, but often still don't really want that advice. I haven't looked to deep into the writers intentions or anything yet, but I saw that for sure. It seemed like metaphors & interpretations for MH in general to me, with Clark being ultimately swallowed by his own struggle, while she realizes in the end that she'll never get the answer to how to save people, and neither will Phil, who represents the industry itself that tries to investigate & prod both professionals & their clientele for these neuroscietific answers to consciousness itself. So her at the end as one of the entities was in Phils layers of consciousness. But she is free from her backrooms because she accepts the ultimate inability to control both understandings & outcomes of consciousness.

I LOVE liminal space, uncanny horror, and cosmic horror. Without a doubt my favorite genre of horror. The backrooms and all its spinoffs/expansions (like the poolrooms) is so captivating to me, so I was really really looking forward to this movie, and I'm really happy you guys watched it (and enjoyed it). Some information about the movie for y'all: Kane Parsons/Pixels was 19 when he started directing this film (he also made the first found-footage blender videos back in 2022). They build over 30,000sq feet of backrooms for the movie, and the cast and crew would sometimes get lost in them. In the movie universe, the Backrooms works as a living MRI machine, scanning the brains of people who enter it (or just hang around the portals), Because Jack was living in the store, the Backrooms was scanning his brain and memories. It's implied that there was a doorway in Mary's old house, which is what caused her mother to become insane. Also, in the credits Captain Clark (monster) is listed as "The lifeform," implying it's an actual living creature, unlike the still-life (Barbara, Wheelchair guy, Mary at the end, etc). This is also supported by the fact that he actually bleeds, unlike the still-life which are made of the white stuff. In the original 4chan post, the backrooms are described to be as big as 600 million square miles (look up backrooms compared to earth). The backrooms and similar liminal spaces are SUCH cool spaces. oh also, this movie used a mix of practical sets and blender (Kane made the blender footage and also some of the music for the film, you can find it on Spotify), so some of the scenes (like the found-footage sequences) are made in blender by him
