Steely Dan is his actual name, referencing the band "Steely Dan" (any NL heads in chat). The Stone of Aja from part 2 was also the name of one of their albums, "Aja". He was given the localized name of "Dan of Steel" which references "Man of Steel" or otherwise known as Superman. Originally the localized name was "Rubber Soul" which is of course named after the Beatles album "Rubber Soul".

I do understand that you guys (Geks) have a lot of shows to watch, and also not just watch but include the discussion after each episode so it takes time, but I do agree with people suggesting you to do the 2 part episodes together, because that is better pacing for you all too. It will feel a lot slower and dragged out if you do them separate, especially in the middle part of Part 3.

@peachy He "officially" came back in 2022 if I remember correctly, it's just humanly impossible for him to do weekly chapters with his health condition :( But I'm so proud of him coming back every single time tbh. Idc how long he takes as long as he's taking care of himself and gets to tell the story the way he envisioned it!

There's maybe like, 24-30 ish episodes of anime that's been written/published so far, with the last manga releasing in 2024, and the next one later this month. It's gonna be a while before we get more anime, and even if we do, it will be MANY more years after that until we get more again

Hey Geks, I know a lot of people are asking for double drops but Im gunna be real, you should watch it however you want. I watched Part 3 on release where they dropped episodes weekly. It's really not that bad, and its interesting to hear your theories and thoughts about how the battle is going to end. Whats most important isnt about watching a show "the optimal way," its not a League game with an optimised build, its a tv show for your enjoyment. Jojo's is a journey, not a sprint, and part 7 isnt going to be finished for a really long time. Just take your time and enjoy the ride.

With everyone saying part 3 drags it seems like we hate part 3 lol. Personally I thought pt3 got better as it went on and enjoyed it overall. I'm curious to see which part will be your favourites after you've finished part 6 since it's unlikely you'll all agree on the same part being the best

They gon’ learn soon enough lmao. I think they are the only reaction channel I’ve seen that do single drops for 2-3part fights for jojos and it’s obvious why it’s not as enjoyable (for many of us) that way.

P3 is fire. The beginning has some issues (carried by the comedy and craziness though but the fights are a little lacking) but starting with J Geil, the show starts getting better and better and the last 14 episodes are perhaps one of the best final stretches not only from Jojo but manga in general. The pacing itself is fine really. It's a 3-4 scans an episode adaptation. And the part is not more fillery than part 4, definitely not. The lack of story progression is the biggest issue for people I think, and that's definitely understandable but all the rest is there to compensate for that.

One extra episode, while that'd be great it wouldn't be groundbreaking either so I don't think it's worth complaining about it that much. 3 episodes is already amazing, they do 4 episodes a week of Bleach, which seems to generate more engagement.

They say the actual names out loud, the subtitles say the localized name but if you listen to their voices and don't just read then you'll know the real names. It's annoying but to act like it's impossible while reading is funny, plenty of other reaction channels have done it just pay more attention.

Hm that's where I don't relate. For me ep 18-48 were pretty consistently enjoyable with some more peaks leading up to finale. I grew up on a lot of great monster-of-the-week shows so its a structure I don't mind, I also don't see it as repetitive since the stands are so different. But I understand why people don't like that format, it's just something I associate with some fun shows I've watched

Yeah I struggle to understand why people find so much issue with the episodic monster-of-the-week format for part 3 tbh. Has no one ever enjoyed watching episodic shows where you know by the end we'll have come back to the initial situation? Simpsons, Cartoon Network, South Park, Nickelodeon cartoons, Rick and Morty, Smiling Friends to cite some of the biggest cartoons. Or even whodunit shows? Even animes like Gundam, Conan, Gintama,... But even that put aside, as I've said I agree about story progression, it's the part that has the least of that, but the thing that bothers me the most with that criticism is.. (SPOILERS AHEAD) . . . ...that future parts also have that same monster-of-the-week formula. That's just the identity of Jojo and part 3 isn't even special for that. If you have a specific issue with this format then how do you even like Jojo after part 3 to begin with? One thing I even prefer about this part in comparison to its successors is how self-aware it is of that formula it introduces. Something you don't really see in future parts. The amount of meta-jokes thrown all the time, the part parodies kitsch horror movies just as much as it parodies many different types of episodic shows like Fist of the North Star, whodunits and even cartoons like Looney Tunes with Oingo and Bongo. It's sad that so many people just overlook that. So yeah imo the biggest issue people have with it is definitely the lack of story progression, which is an understandable reproach but like you said Tangent, all the rest is so good and creative that you don't even care about the plot staying stuck at "we're moving towards DIO" for so long. The show makes it pretty explicit that the journey will matter more than the destination itself pretty early on.

It is more understandable for Bleach and OP, because they have so many episodes, but for JJBA it makes more sense to do the double part episodes in one because its better to experience it in this way. I don't want them to complain later that it dragged and was slow in the middle, when they could have easily avoided it. This part is one of my favourite and I want them to experience it in a better way.

@JeanJean I couldn't agree with you more, you said what I had in my mind. Something I also feel is that people just love to compare parts, which is fine but that is not how you tell whether a part is good or not. JJBA always builds on the previous parts to make the next part even better and that is something we don't see often and that is the reason why it is so good, but to downplay and underrate parts that came before is just a way some people in this community hype up next parts, even though there is no need for it, because it is so good anyways. Just look at Part 1 &2, Part 1 is criminally undermined and Part 2 is just forgotten after the stands were introduced. But individually these parts are so good, most of the people I see who watch it for the first time loves it. And in case of Part 3 the main story not moving forward is the only issue, monster-of-the-week format is something that was necessary to understand how stands work and how versatile they are, if they just skipped it the finale of this part wouldn't be as impactful and amazing as it was, people would not have as much information about the stands before the final 10-15 episodes.

its not that its necessarily bad. even if p3 is formulaic, it always finds a way to be unique and surprising. i can't say i had an easy time predicting p3; thats what made it fun enough for me to keep watching it. but we cant lie to ourselves and act like it isnt a bit tiring at times. at some points, the whole reason for this journey (jotaro's mother) felt like a background detail (SPOILERS AHEAD !!!!!!!), like when they met the first d'arby brother and jotaro was like, "i'm betting her life because she'll die if i don't beat him anyways," i was like, oh shit yeah this whole journey was FOR HER and some other parts DO have that same format. particularly in the first half of p4 and pretty much all of p5. but it didnt feel like it was dragging in p4 because of the partial slice of life, run-of-the-mill vibe of morioh. it just felt like a sidequest that i was happy to watch. and for p5, i did get a TINY bit tired of that format, but it felt more tight-knit than p3 AND i feel like araki had a fuller, better grasp of what he could do with stands i feel like critique should always be welcome :D but each and every part is amazing in its own way, and shouldnt be compared to each other no one is asking to skip to the end of p3. we're asking for two parters to be seen in one sitting

Journey more than destination perfectly describes pt3, I think a lot of people were very eager for them to fight dio, but if you go in knowing the structure you just gotta be there for the ride. Some great cartoons, and also some live action like doctor who, early supernatural and buffy were like this. People are already itching for pt4 when theres so many fun eps in pt3 to look forward to! I think we should let the geks decide if it drags, if they think it drags then theyll think the same with double drops anyway

I'm not doubting that everyone saying it drags feels that way, but episodes that I did find tiring were because episode itself was boring, not because I cared about story progression. Evidently I don't have opinions that represent the majority though, it's just if they think it drags with 3 drops a week, they'll probably still think it drags with 4 drops or even if they binged it Also I didn't expect so many long replies under my comment haha, but I appreciate your and everyone's thoughts

Agreed that the narrative structure of Jojo's isn't always the most "sensible" or cohesive lol, but def has some of the most entertaining characters and creative fights in all of anime. The best is still to come 😁

@thorfinn I never really felt tired personally. On my first watch I was definitely expecting more plot so I felt a little underwhelmed, and it took me a second watch to really appreciate what they were going for. But even on my first watch, I wouldn't say I ever really felt tired of it. I wanted something more but it still kept me hooked and entertained all the way. SPOILERS The catalyst for the part being a simple MacGuffin, an excuse for fights and situations in a new environment, is almost a reoccurring thing in all of Jojo in my eyes. Part 4 has this overarching quest for the arrow but they're more of a vector for more stand fights than anything else. Even when Kira is announced we still get many more filler fights before the 5 final Kira-focused episodes. Until then the kira plot barely moves and the way it moves isn't particularly interesting either. Rohan's investigation isn't exciting and Kira's father isn't interesting either. Same for part 5 in a way, the drugs and Giorno's goal are never really expanded upon, they are just a McGuffin to give us ruthless stand fights through Italy. The difference is once again that they do give us more story progression and twists but despite that they remain quite detached from what the episodes actually deliver. All parts are quite similar in that sense. There's never any deep lore about the arrows, Diavolo, Kira. Diavolo does have a flashback but his appearance, his existence, is unexplained. There's no compelling story progression that pertains to some deeper story elements of Jojo. All the lore the different parts introduce feel disjointed and improvised by Araki to provide some cool character moments, situations and fights. And I guess this is just a matter of taste cause whereas part 4 kept you hooked with the slice of life aspect, part 3 kept me hooked because of the life-or-death situations and the comedy. whereas to me part 4 which was much more chill kinda bored me at some points. There's several fights in part 4 I never really want to rewatch for example (the Yukako - Koichi relationship episode, superfly and mikitaka come to mind) whereas even the most awful episodes like strength have some nice DIO scenes in them and some cool scenes on the boat. Part 5 was quite good all the way, I just wished they'd have given us more comedy and character interactions the same way part 3 did. Critique is welcome ofc but that doesn't mean I have to agree with said critiques. In this case it's not even necessarily about disagreeing but about the fact most critiques aimed at part 3 aren't part 3 specific at all imo. The one critique that would be part 3 specific is that it lacks plot and twists more than any other part, and it can make the whole journey feel more repetitive than the others, which I definitely see some truth in. Whether you like it despite that or dislike it because of that is a matter of taste.

This fight kinda bugs me because all Jotaro has to do is restrain Dan with Star Platinum in a way that basically binds him to the ground and doesn't allow him any freedom of movement. Stat Platinum is extremely precise so he could hold him down with just the right pressure to restrict his movements without applying any pressure to him. Basically using Star Platinum's body like human handcuffs. Also he could worst case break Dan's fingers to keep him in line. It would give excruciating pain to Joseph, but it wouldn't actually injure him since his hands are fake.
