Well, they skipped the whooooole Luffy actually wrestling with Caesar, with Caesar going from cocky to intimidated only after he realized he's still being overpowered even after turning Luffy's hands white. Instead, they skipped directly to Caesar crying suddenly?? and Luffy beating him with his hands white outta nowhere from one scene to another. Appreciate One Pace, but bad cuts this time for a scene that doesn't even last long. Og was much cooler and impactful, this one didn't even make sense, even Cannon was confused. Hope there won't be such unnecessary cuts for the next arc, Imma choose to trust One Pace ig...

The problem with the perception that Luffy needed effort in wrestling Cesar in order to beat him is that as an anime watcher, you actually think Luffy struggled a little there. Your perception of Luffy's strenght is thus skewed by the anime. The fact is Luffy didn't struggle at all. Cesar simply is nowhere near his level. Sure, the build up of Cesar whining and threatening Luffy before that happens is better in the original anime version, but Luffy wrestling Cesar was in no way a canonical experience. I for one don't like not having a clear sense of how strong Luffy is because the animators make him struggle for longer than he should be. And they do that a lot. In that sense, the manga version (meaning one pace) is almost always better in my opinion. With fight scenes, anyway.

That was actually perfect. That is exactly how it went down in the manga. There is absolutely no power struggle in the manga, he just blasts him away in one panel like we see here in One Pace. They actually cooked in my opinion. This is a classic example of Toei stretching out fights in the anime, which make Luffy look way weaker than he actually is. They did it with the Hody fight as well.

Rayanh and Faradyn, that's a very fair point! I completely agree that it's best for Luffy to not 'struggle' against someone like Caesar. What truly bothered me is that the scenes were too out of nowhere. The Caesar crying and Luffy's hands being white. I wish they had taken the few extra seconds to put in that context, otherwise the cuts look way too obvious. I think they could have just shown Luffy's hands actually touching Caesar's, then his hands turning white, the realization on Caesar's face, and voila. Cutting all the screaming and extra talk was good tho.

"nothing is great about it" yet it introduced us properly to the new world and showed the new status of several characters like law, smoker, doflamingo, aokiji etc, who we hadn't seen since then and also provided a ton of lore surrounding the island itself, Vegapunks old lab, "joker" and so on. it was literally a good/strong enough arc to set up the next 500 episodes of the series and every fan boys favorite arc, Wano. (Which stands on the shoulders of punk hazard and the next few arcs) I'm convinced if you don't like this arc you are watching for the wrong reasons like to see hype fights OR you just really hate the pacing which is fair but if that's the case there are MANY worse paced and longer arcs.

@pudding, I hear you, but looking back at the manga, the One Pace cut was essentially 1 to 1 with the manga. I just blame Toei for doing a bad job and One Pace did what it could with their bad material to make it fit haha. That being said, I don't condone a lot of One Pace's cuts. They definitely make it a more jarring experience in my opinion than is necessary a lot of the time. But I am at least very happy about how they handle Luffy's power scaling. The Gek's would 100% of thought Luffy is weaker than he is if they'd watched the Toei version.

Yeah the cuts are a bit rough, but One Pace keeps out the 1 minute of power struggle between Luffy and Caeser which is important to show Luffy blowing him away instantly, and it cuts out a whole lot of running scenes from this batch of episodes.

@Luker there's the signature One Piece "if you don't like this, it's because [insert something that makes my opinion more valid than yours]". You could've just stated why you like the arc without that part. And no matter how much the online fans try to dismiss it, hype fights are a valid reason to watch One Piece seeing as how One Piece is a shonen where every major arc is settled with a battle/series of battles.

We cant know for sure if Law had better haki really.... BUT NO! You dont need better haki to use fruit powers on someone. Having better haki can protect you to some degree, but Vergo is not nearly strong enough to just ignore someones Devil fruit powers

Can confirm that Vergo and Monet are both dead. That explosion was building D which is where Vergo's chopped body was, and Monet is dead after having her heart stabbed by Caeser.

- It was cool and interesting, but nothing actually great in those early introductions, imo. - Seeing characters again is nice, but cameos don’t automatically make an arc good. - Yeah… you really don’t wanna hear my Wano takes lol. Yeah, I hate the pacing, but even the manga pacing isn’t that much better with the canon plot lines. It’s just constant running around and characters who exist to do almost nothing. No, I don’t care about hype fights. I’m a plot‑first guy. And the plot here is super basic. Sure, it’s a setup arc, but it feels like Oda wasn’t even trying. We’ve seen him write insane setup arcs before. Water 7 proves he can. It's literally because it's just a very weak narrative compared to other arcs. Almost every side plot is mid, and the main plot is just okay imo. The good parts are like 20–40% of the arc. The rest is just slow, messy, unnecessary, weak, and kinda boring. Also, I’m not a hater. I love One Piece. I just dislike some of the choices Oda made. I criticize it because I actually care about the story and want it to be good.

The fact that they're both smiling and completely at peace with sacrificing their lives for Doflamingo says a lot about the kind of relationship they had with him imo, and Monet telling him that he's gonna be the one who becomes King of the pirates... cinema🚬

Baby 5 has a pure heart🥹well partly anyways. Also as always end of the arc is really great and that Monet's final scene was really quite powerful. Makes me wonder if One Piece has some stakes after all🤔 Sadly it rarely contains any of our main characters. Yes the pacing is really dragging down the whole show's value but if some fans have been watching this since 1999 week after week it must be quite the epic feeling. I genuinely don't understand why they changed it to seasonal anime. Maybe to gain the larpers into the fandom more easily🙄 those 1999 fans must be pissed af.

Man this has been such a great rewatch, besides pacing, there's genuinely a lot of outstanding or just cool moments for a lot of the crew. Ussop glazing Luffy and standing on business, Zoro telling Luffy to lock in and destroying Monet with Tashigi, Nami stepping up for the children and Chopper's dedication to curing them are all great displays of their character traits that were sorely missed in FMI. I can't wait for Dressrosa, from here on out there's no arc long slogs like in the previous arc (so long as you're still using the guide ofc), and I'm sure there's gonna be some major switch ups in the arc rankings soon.

A rival of Vegapunk kidnapping kids to do experiments "for the govt", selling drugs and gas to a giant system connecting Doffy and a yonko. Reintroducing Law, Smoker and Tashigi into the story, Luffy and Law forming an alliance like Kid and the others, we're finally starting to make moves and progress through the journey. Oda revisiting some of the straw hats, introducing stuff that will pay off much later, expanding the lore, introducing the new world, introducing Doflamingo and teasing interesting dynamics with his crew. Better villains, better side villains that are smart, efficient and don't overstay on screen, better fights, really cool use of devil fruits, like Law and Caesar. Can we compare the gap between the yeti cool brothers, Monet and Vergo and almost all the cast of CP9 and their fights? Or the judge with three heads at Enies lobby, or Wanze, or many others? Caesar having one of the best designs for a villain to this day in OP imo, some good aura farming for our guys, better writing to separate the straw hats and let them shine. An improvement in the overall structure of an arc, a very cool setting, some good humor imo, solid plot. This is what represents Punk Hazard to me, a solid, short, efficient arc and 4/10 is crazy considering that makes it easily one of the worst arcs in OP, but hey I respect it, to each their own.

@Luker Lmao where did I ever say I only care about hype fights??? I literally praised Water 7, which has basically no hype fights and is pure plot with multiple insane storylines. And no, I didn’t ignore your points. I just don’t think those things automatically make the arc great. Some parts are good, but most of PH is a drag for me. You can think it’s great, but I don’t. Maybe I just have high standards because I know how good Oda can be, and this arc is way below that level. Yeah, 4/10 is harsh, but that’s genuinely how I feel about it. I could maybe go up to a 6/10 at most. For me it’s a mid arc with a few great moments. It does its job as setup, but it also overstays its welcome by A LOT.

This is probably the worst One Pace episode I've seen so far. the cuts were terrible and the pacing was so off-putting. This is why I'm ultimately against One Pace, what you think should be better pacing is actually worse than just watching the show as intended. One Piece pacing at its worse is still better than One Pace.
