I just finished 5x10 so I think this is good therapy after the depression maximus. Based on the caption I guess Anita Max Vynn is here to save me.

The pacing issues and not that many likeable characters in my opinion

Kayanolive

1:51 say that again mckay?

Hansen

holy early drop

jack-o-nami-swaaan

Watching more episodes per session will definitely help with the pacing.

kuza

bro kinemon is pains VA im actually ashamed im only now noticing that...

Camden

Doffy is such a great villain! I firmly believe that Dressrosa pacing is not as bad as some people say. It has some rough parts for sure, but people who call it “unwatchable” are out of their minds. That being said, for sure take advantage of the One Pace/OG hybrid you guys have been using.

kuza

DO U SEE THIS COAT

Pudding

Doffy has my favorite laugh in One Piece

sil 🧸ྀི

i love when really powerful characters are like "i didn't come here to fight YOU so im gonna leave" to other powerful characters lmaoo we can see this with doffy and aokiji obviously but also reminded me of hawkeye when shanks arrived to marineford + blackbeard also didn't want to fight shanks right then hahaha

Seb

wano isn’t actually paced out that bad. it’s just got a lot of stuff going on. Dressrosa is just paced very poorly

Nash

Lmaooo doffy was gonna kill smoker even when Aokiji pulled up😭

kuza

aura clashes

Maj

Doflamingo got the best theme in the show, you know what time it is when that shit starts playing

Pudding

Doflamingo is my favorite villain in One Piece, too much aura

Enma

Man oh man, as someone who's been a big fan of the 76ers for the past 1 day 2 hours 56 minutes and 42 seconds, its finally happening. No more throwing seasons to get picks anymore. No more watching all of our good and young players get injured or traded for a bag of chips. We did it. We trusted the process and now we have been rewarded. Chip season baby!! And hey Ben Simmons, we're good bro, Lebron is here.

kuza

momonosuke living my dream

Lowkii

By what Doflamingo means Strawhat is Normal Pirate Unlike Law means Law is a Warlord so he is protected by Navy and Government, So it is understandable that smoker doesn't wanna give him up but he refused to give up Strawhats that is direct breech of agreement and contract.

Pudding

When you think about it, most if not all pirate ships that go to the New World, are most likely equipped with a bunch of technology, similar to Coup de Burst, in order to escape the harsh weather conditions. Interesting. All those ships must be super intricate, or have devil fruit users that can do something useful in all circumstances.

Pudding

34:40 uhm, excuse me? I'm making that my new wallpaper wth

Nrock23

Only 6 more arcs till they are caught up LMAO

Tamar | Sanji’s Attorney

I’m currently in the middle of wano rn and in my opinion the pacing hasn’t been an issue at all. Then again, I didn’t really have an issue with dessrosa either so it’s safe to say I’d watch anything if I like it enough

Camden

Momonosuke is Mckay inserted into one piece

beannie

Aokiji piece, your time has come

bigdog

Great episodes woooowowowoowowow

Tony

One Pace to the rescue

Sara ˚˖𓍢ִ໋❀

Same. I thought Wano was perfectly fine...it also helped that the animation was BEAUTIFUL

Tom

You're underestimating One Paced Dressrosa, cooks hard and early

Tom

That isn't what he meant, he's referring to their past

Tom

You need to refamiliarize yourself with it, I've seen it twice and it is near unwatchable

Lorenzo

Nah franky I see the fit. The JKLMNOPQ shirt, so tuff

Chris Schwirz

I’ll be a voice of positivity on the pacing post timeskip. Dressrosa is the worst but it’s really because of the usual one piece we’re running to the next place problem. Going forward after that it gets progressively better. I would say wano isn’t even bad pacing i think one piece is just a denser story in general.

Chris Schwirz

One pace is gonna fix things for sure as well

mina

there should be a mini one piece week for dressrosa 👀👀👀

Kayanolive

17:02 okay wtf was up with sanjis body there lmao

E

Same it’s still one of the best aura moments in one piece 🥶

Enma

Aokiji and Akainu both wanted to be the Fleet Admiral. They had differing views/interpretations of justice and how it should be implemented within the navy. So they fought to determine who would lead. (and no you dont have to fight for the position) Aokiji's form of justice is called "Lazy Justice". As we seen he is very laid back and calm, but he is also very observant and careful. His form of justice is slow and deliberate, evaluating the problem and allowing matters to solve by themselves. It's also flexible as it learns and adapts with further context and extenuated circumstances. Aokiji also questions the judgement and morality of his fellow soldiers and of the higher ups. He has a nuanced view of the world and how justice should play its role in it. He feels more of like an observer, and he only participates when it is necessary. Akainu's form of justice is called "Absolute Justice" (or "Thorough Justice"). Akainu is a serious, rigid, and heavy-handed man who rules with an iron fist. His worldview is a lot more black and white; there is no mercy, no compromise, and no hesitation. Those who break the law or oppose the world government are an evil that must be destroyed no matter the cost. He is incredibly dutiful to his role and view of justice that he will sacrifice anything or anyone to maintain order. He is apathetic and unquestioning, a perfect soldier. A great example of both of these views are best represented in Robin's backstory, the destruction and genocide of Ohara. Aokiji was horrified by the actions the Marines took against the people of Ohara. Which might be the reason he saved Robin or maybe because she was a little girl who lost everything and everyone. Either way, he disobeyed orders and did what he believed to be right. Akainu, on the other hand, shown no emotions and did what he was told to a tee. He destroyed a rescue ship that was carrying civilians, on the off chance that a single Oharan researcher was onboard. I think he said that it was a necessary sacrifice to ensure evil did not escape (or something like that). Because of their standing, these two admirals were the obvious candidates to lead. The former Fleet Admiral, Sengoku (along with Garp probably too), recommended and supported Aokiji due to their close relationship and shared philosophy. Sengoku saw that Aokiji was rational and merciful, and Aokiji was deeply respected by the lower ranks. Meanwhile, the Gorosei (Five Elders) supported Akainu because he did exactly what he was told without question. They fought because only one of them could be leader, but it was fundamentally a battle of ideology. The winner would determine the fate and direction of the Marines, as well as the kind of justice they would enforce.

Kayanolive

Im just gonna pretend like brook sanji and kinemon being weird isnt real

1804

I like Momo but he was mischievous for that bath scene lol

Enma

Doflamingo is the second antagonist (the first being Caesar Clown) to have his own original soundtrack, the theme is called "Donquixote Doflamingo".

Marcus D

Jack has absolute faith in the animation after episode 1033😂😏

Marcus D

Kin’emon’s fruit would be the most sort after fruit in our current real life 1st world era. Get the fruit and never have to pay for clothing ever again and where whatever you like instantly.

Kayanolive

Imporant context imo: 42:22 unless im misunderstanding mckay oda is not the one saying that a certain arc should be animated very slowly like they did with all of post timeskip and especially with dressrosa. When Jack then says that dressrosa was really bad aswell as the other arcs he means the adaptation that had filler planted into them by Toei. And for One Piece going seasonal, they took a huge ass break to come back with the current arc still only animating one chapter per episode. So even with the seasonal model we are still at a chapter per episode. And since yall asked what was so dragged specifically? Just imagine seeing the same flashback i think 58 (not kidding btw) times? aswell as these stand off moments like with Kuzan and Doffy but for every little thing, with landscape and reaction shots spliced in between them. Its what HALF A CHAPTER (0.67 to be exact) per episode does to an anime adaptation when the standard is 2-4. Wano is almost as bad since its also post time skip and covering the longest arc. AND YES the manga is basically what yall love about one piece 80% of the time. Even the manga can drag at some parts ofc but i truly think that Toei stopped One Piece from being the greatest story ever told, its why i have been so annoying (sorry for that) about One Pace since Manga Piece is so dang good

SavDog23

The mystery of the Mini Merry, greatest plotline in all of One Piece ✍️🔥

Marcus D

Toei One piece is seasonal now. 26 episodes per year at most

Marcus D

The One Piece Manga’s 29th anniversary was actually last week(19th of July). So almost 30 years of (mostly) weekly serialisation, crazy.

Enma

Aokiji wasn't "randomly" nearby Punk Hazard to save Smoker, that mf was sitting there so that the ice wouldnt keep melting from Akainu's (big dog) lava. Bro just trying to keep his aura up 😭😭✌️ #notslander #truthpiece

SavDog23

The way Doffy used Conqueror's Haki was so extra lmao

Dontsop Keran

Smoker put in all his PTO after this arc

Kayanolive

Mckay u are very correct about Kizaru and his reasoning we pretty much know Jack just wasnt sure what he could say

SavDog23

Legendary animator Naotoshi Shida once again COOKING with the scene of Aokiji pulling up on Doffy to save Smoker. Shida honestly hard-carries the big animation moments in Dressrosa.

HaoHao 9

Ngl, the manga pacing is also not ideal. But since you can control the reading, you can skim over some stuff which makes it feel better.

Enma

Another question from the QnA Oda does for the manga: Question: Tell me the name of the penguin Mr. Kuzan was riding! Is he related to the Galapagos penguin?! Was he treading water under the surface the entire time he was waiting for Mr. Kuzan?! He's so cute, I can't help but want to know more! Tell me!! Oda: Yep, that's a big penguin. He's a member of the "super penguin" species, which is very adept at treading water. He fits well with Kuzan's Hie Hie (ice ice) Style, and has been accompanying him since he left the Marines. His name is Camel. Also, he's a hardboiled dude, so don't call him cute or you'll get burned.

Dasha

"this is the first time we heard about kings since alabasta" THEY ERASED IT they erased fishman island from their memories

EmlovesOP

Soo good I literally just want to rewatch everything again.

Douglas

I was wondering if we are gonna get an Avatar Aang reaction? It’s out now.

Michael H

I’ve seen it recently, and it’s a great arc. The person I watched with thought it was a great arc. Every reactor I’ve seen cover it thinks it’s a great arc. I’m not saying the pacing isn’t rough in some parts, and I’m not saying not to take advantage of One Pace. I’m just saying people go overboard with the hate on the pacing, especially calling it “unwatchable” which is pretty dumb considering how many people love the arc despite watching the OG version.

J3

Maybe I am underestimating one pace. I remember the rough parts being REALLY rough SPOILERS—— (the dwarfs entire plot line, when they infiltrated the smile factory, the fact that Caesar is with them the entire arc etc). The peaks are really peak but I remember it taking a long time to get there. The entire gladiator arena was also slow with not so many likable moments nor people (except for when that person shows up). The villains are horrendous, which I guess makes them really good villains since you hate them so much. I can go on forever but I personally dislike a lot of dressrosa and I’m pretty sure the geks will feel the same (at least McKay 🤣🤣).

J3

I feel the same about whole cake island. AMAZING arc but the beginning is rough, it just is. Same with Wano but the animation upgrade makes it more bearable 🤣

Faradyn

I just want to say that I really enjoyed One Pace Punk Hazard and it gave me a much greater appreciation for the arc. I am really hoping to have the same experience with Dressrosa. I was caught up watching the anime week to week during Punk Hazard & Dressrosa, so the pacing really got to me. I know a lot of people talk about how great Dressrosa is and I think my perspective was jaded by the week to week slog. The bad pacing in Dressrosa and during this era of the anime is just a lot of scenes like that stand off with Kuzan & Doflamingo where they aren't doing anything and it just keeps going on and on. Or people running forever and getting no where. They were really trying to not catch up with the manga, so they were slowing down the adaptation, and it really suffered for it. This is also an era where the Toei fan service gets pretty bad with respect to drawing some of the female characters, which is annoying. Anyway, I genuinely think you guys are going to LOVE One Pace Dressrosa and I am super excited to re-experience it with the boys!

SavDog23

I'll do my best to explain One Piece pacing. Lengthy post but worth the read to really understand why. The production problems with Dressrosa (and a lot of Post-TS) mainly come from Toei having poor creativity and direction with extending episode content to fill runtimes. The animation department was also severly lacking outside of the GOAT Naotoshi Shida and a few others. In other animes, if a normal episode is 24 minutes, usually it's structure is 2 minute opening, 1 minute recap, 1 minute ending, which leaves 20 minutes for actual canon episode content that adapt usually 2-3-4+ manga chapters. Toei with the majority of One Piece were unfortunately always only 30-50 chapters behind the manga, so were heavily limited in how much of a chapter/s they could adapt as a weekly show, so that they don't catch up to the manga. Yet they would have to still fill out a 24 minute runtime every week. So a normal One Piece episode would usually have a 2min opening, 2-4min recap, 45 second preview at end, leaving around 18-20 minutes for episode content. But since it only adapts around 1 chapter, canon content might only fill up 12-18 minutes of an episode (depending on the density of that chapter), which still leaves 2-8 minutes of runtime to fill up. The difference between an episode that flows well and an episode that doesn't flow well, usually comes down to how the episode director handles that extra runtime. If they fill those few minutes with creative and entertaining fight sequences, good character interactions and humour, and nice visual scenery or art direction, then the episode has "GOOD" flow. But if the episode is instead filled with MINUTES of long still frames, excessive panning or reaction shots, repeated cuts (usually of running) repeated flashbacks or recaps, then the episode is considered "BAD" flow. The pacing in both episodes is still the same (1 chapter - 1 episode), but the flow of the episode is different. Dressrosa tends to cop the most criticism because Toei had it's worst production scheduling/budgeting during this time which limits the creativity and freedom of directors, but also a lot of the staff was just not up to standard, and we would get those factors that contribute to "BAD" flow (panning, reaction, flashbacks/recaps) more often than other arcs. The anime also would get too close to the manga so it would be more common to have episodes with LESS than 1 chapter per episode, to let the manga go ahead. So that 2-4min recap would become a 4-7min recap, meaning that 18-20min of content would be cut down to 13-17min of content, which results in only 10-15 minutes of a 24 minute episode being actual canon chapter content. Combine this with the episode directors usually filling the remaining runtime with "BAD" flow, and you get a very slow/dragged, painfully inconsistent and chore-like experience for a lot of people. I personally don't have issues with poorly paced media. But I do understand and will notice when the pacing/flow is poor, it just has never bothered me in a negative way thankfully.

Dontsop Keran

ATP you might just not like one piece ngl😭

jrnoodles

Thanks! I agree with Mckay, Momonosuke's voice is cute, too bad he's revealed as a perv

J3

It may not sound like it but it’s my top 1 anime of all time lmaoo 😭 Just because I like it doesn’t mean I can’t be critical of it 🥸 some of the things Oda cooks is questionable, even if you like the series or not

sakeniku

I saw this random youtube comment that said "the fact that doffy had to use haki on his ass just to sit on smoker is so funny to me" I hate that it stuck in my head, now I can't take the scene seriously 😭😭😭

sakeniku

im so happy i caught the reference

Dasha

I’m so happy you did

sakeniku

momo being an innocent kid for 5 seconds was wholesome 😞

DonDuh103

Momo is that kid that was called on the stage with Nicki Minaj😂😏😂😏

DonDuh103

Poor Smoker he’s been are Navy guy since the beginning. Hate seeing him getting diff like that plus having to fight with Law to beat Vergo😭😭

Nash

Agenda piece strikes again 😭😭

Kayanolive

Very interesting to see that some ppl really dont mind bad pacing. Minute long still frames/slideshows are such an immersion killing downgrade to me. I wonder if its something one gets used to after 20 years like some sort of stockholm syndrome haha. I just wish they went with the my hero route and gave us a more solid product, instead we got questionable art and shit pacing for multiple hundred episodes all cause of profit bs

Kayanolive

My first dressrosa watch was with the manga and pace and i have a completly different view about dressrosa, WCI and so on so it might be the fact u watched it in Toei's version?

Kayanolive

Well i experienced the story through the manga/one pace since the middle of punk hazard and i loved dressrosa and much prefered punk hazard that way. I can see you really liking dressrosa this time around

Kayanolive

Yup they have a guide they are following

Eni

Apart from pacing issues, it's only up from here on out

John D. Acebes

I cant recall if any are 1 to 1, but the OPLA ship sets were the closest were getting to irl replicas built as far as im aware. Maybe theres been an attraction like that in the past. I wouldnt know

Janice W

Perfectly explained👏 it’s crazy to think Shida was one of the only saving graces for the animation with him constantly taking up the fight heavy/hype portions. Now we see him pop in to animate random scenes. This was definitely a rough few years with Toei. I would say characters post Dressrosa look more on model which definitely help even if pacing is still bad. Pretty sure that’s when there was a changing in staff (trying to avoid saying exact arcs!)

EmlovesOP

yeah I remember reading it and having to take breaks theirs just alot going on.

Kurofi

The pacing is not an oda issue, it’s a Toei issue. Never blame Oda 🙃

Lowkii

That is one thing but when questioning smoker I'm pretty sure that's what he meant.

Emily Rose

McKay calling doffy zesty 🤣

Faradyn

Raise of hands for all of the people excited for McKay to finally meet THAT character... LOL

Nick K

When I think of the amount of plot points within Dressrosa... so much happens

귤🍊

Eh, Dressrosa has a bit of a pacing issue in the manga as well at some points 🤷‍♀️

Grae

Oh man I'm so excited for peak next week

JoyBoy

I think you guys should now do cover stories color walks and SBS reading.......it will help a lot to understand the story and you'll understand much more about one piece world and also you'll learn about oda himself and how he is in real life.

christopher

Actually oda has made detailed diagrams of the ship its online if you want have a look

JoyBoy

A lot of people don't understand Garp, and I can see why, especially after Marineford. But if you really think about it, he's actually a great character and an example of what a good Marine should be. Yes, he didn't help Ace, but he also never fought against him or tried to capture him, despite Ace being a pirate. After all, 90% of pirates are cruel—they pillage, murder, and terrorize innocent civilians. For Garp to help a pirate escape during such a massive war simply because that pirate was his grandson would have been wrong, especially when the entire war was being broadcast live to the world (thanks to Buggy). It would have shattered the public's trust in the Marines, because ordinary citizens look to them for protection when pirates attack. Garp wasn't just another Marine—he was a highly respected officer and known worldwide as the "Hero of the Marines." If someone of his stature had openly saved the Pirate King's son, imagine the impact that would have had on the entire world. It's not that Garp lacked the courage to fight or save Ace; he simply couldn't choose a pirate over the duty he had sworn to uphold. He could have abandoned the Marines like Kuzan did, but if good and powerful people like Garp and Kuzan all leave the Navy, then who will be left to protect the institution.

GBuckets

Guys please one pace this arc

Tyrell D. Rose

I don't have a problem with the pacing either, as long as the story is really good. Maybe it's because I've been watching One Piece for 10+ years I started when I was very young, I grew up with it and it was my first anime ever. One Piece definitely taught me patience for sure, but I'm glad I had older brothers who got me into it Because even with Dressrosa's bad pacing (and I was watching it weekly while it was still airing) I couldn't enjoy my life more, the pacing was so bad but it was still so much better than the cartoons I would've watched if I wasn't watching OP, there's a massive gap It was my first time experiencing something that different, another culture, a massive world, all these characters, a really cool story, the music, cool powers, big fights... It was like a kid tasting ice cream for the first time, I was ADDICTED. So maybe I'm forever grateful for that too What is really frustrating to me, is what One Piece could've been with a really good quality adaptation

Tyrell D. Rose

Wano's pacing is pretty bad but it looks way better and they are more creative with how they stretch things out. I wouldn't say it's worse than Dressrosa, I don't think so

Jack Dan

Jackson. Cannon. Carter. McKay. Long ago, all patrons lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when Aang The Last Airbender released. Only the Geks, master of all reaction videos, could watch it, but when the world needed their reaction most, they vanished. A hundred hours passed and my fellow patrons and I discovered the new virtue, a virtue called patience. And although our patience is short, we have a lot to learn before we’re ready to see a reaction. But I believe Patience can save the world.

지원

onepace making next arc way better ! dw

Migge

Aokiji lost his employer-provided bicycle and now needs to enlist the help of a penguin to move around.

Poragami

Episodes wise we've had the Sunny for longer

Poragami

there's is absolutely no debate to watch Dressrosa in its entirety on One Pace

PIRATE_QUEEEN

Yes, I am in that camp. Dressrosa was my favorite arc for quite a while and I watched the OG. Maybe it was just the fact that I was a teenager when I watched it, but I still thought it was amazing. It definitely has pacing issues, but I am in the group of people that don’t mind it all that much. If anything, I’m happy to have more moments with my favorite characters☺️

wanira 11

I love his penguin ride, his name is Camel by the way. He became his travelling companion after leaving the marines

LIYOUZHI

Watch ONE PIECE Film Z!

Frank Miller

The Pacing in Dressrosa was very weird. One Piece anime already was barely adapting above one chapter (like 0.8 - 1.2 chapters per episode) after the timeskip, but in Dressrosa they slowed that down. 100 chapters into 112 episodes. It was filled with unnecessary filler, repeated scenes, repeated comedy scenes and very unintersting stuff. But this arc especially on a reread was great. Have Fun Geks :)

Mitch

Film Z is the only one I think is a must watch movie

Mitch

Wano is paced bad but the animation is so gorgeous every episode that it kinda makes up for it where as Dressrossa has both horrible animation and horrible pacing

esme

doffy just the illest villain everrrrr

Isla

"he does it in such a zesty way" LOL i meannn he is a very zesty man

Safaricat

my favorite moment of this episode is Law trying to tell them information and they kept interrupting and branching off of what he's saying. Then the storm comes and no one refocuses after that and he just sits there the rest of the evening.

Marcus D

He’s not wrong 😂

I wouldnt day horrible bro but yea definitely coulda used some work at some parts

april 🍏

1 episode:1 chapter is DIABOLICAL pacing in itself 😭 and some episodes are like 2 chapters across 3/4 sometimes 5 episodes... The entirety of JJK season 2 was 73 chapters. Dressrossa is so good but the pacing gives it a bad rap

Michael H

@april Yeah, the chapter/episode ratio is obscene, but that doesn’t say anything about the watchability of it. If it is padded in a way that is still enjoyable, then it’s all good. There are a few stretches that it is really noticeable (just like in a lot of arcs), but for the most part it didn’t bother me and a lot of other people I know 🤷🏽

Safaricat

i just want to know why the title is Drake pulled up when he didn't????? it's kinda been bothering me. Same with the arrancar reference for Gantenbainne..... whitney houston arrancar?? instead of like globetrotter or mayweather or tyson..... seemed like a odd choice whitney has no afro and isn't a man and doesn't fist fight. so like... yeah i'm just saying something that has been bothering me. i get making jokes but with out an explanation some of these jokes can only be interpreted a certain way..... anyway i agree that aokiji and dofi would be a good fight

Enma

Aokiji has ice powers and Drake recently drop an album called iceman, and I can’t speak on the other stuff because I haven’t watched it

Safaricat

thank you for clarifying because i completely forgot he still makes music and didn't know the name of his album. this is disrespectful to Aokiji. DRAAAAAKE???!?!

ahmad

DRESSROSAAA

Mahti

After getting caught up with the anime would be good.

Mahti

Until recently I had only read it in manga and now after seeing it in anime form it was far better than I expected. Still think the pacing is terrible but very watchable. With One Pace it should be good.

Maryam Ali

Toei did a good job overall... its not their fault if they have to work around certain limitations for this 20+ yr long anime journey

greyxwaren

wano was longer than dressrosa in the manga to begin with if that gives you any perspective without spoiling anything. dressrosa is 102 chapters but 118 episodes while wano is 149 chapters and 197 episodes. there's a pacing issue at the start of the arc because the anime was catching up closely to manga, then the anime took a break and the pacing got better. they do get better with their stretching technique ill give them that, instead of freezing the scene on one character jpeg or going back and forth between characters, toei started taking creative liberty and adding beautiful anime original scenes. you'd only notice "pacing issues" is if you're a manga reader and notice they're animating a chapter an episode but if you appreciate it is you'd not complain one bit

LotionedPenguin

Kuzan and doflamingo farming so hard I keep rewatching this reaction
