Yes Daryl and Merle have a complex relationship. Their father was abusive and both grew up neglected and only had each other. Merle is such an ass but he cares for Daryl and Daryl would never abandon him. It hurts seeing Daryl leave Rick and crew but I love that he's loyal towards his brother.

In the outro, the Geks touch on the subject of how toxic relationships cannot be understood from the outside. There is a reason why Daryl and Carol got closer, because they get it. They were both victims of abuse for years, and that is why carol says she is not totally sure if her late husband was to come back and tell her to leave with him, she'd be able to say no. Just like Daryl the moment he finds Merle, he cannot leave him again. But who knows. Maybe he has found confidence in himself while away from his toxic brother, and will see differently this time? I miss Daryl already so much. Like McKay said "it should not be allowed" lol

Carter I 100% agree with you. Up until now, we’ve constantly been led to believe that Merle was never a good brother to Daryl, just because he’s generally a hateful and selfish person. Even Carol saying that men like Merle get into your heads and make you believe you deserve the “abuse” implies that Merle, in some way, wasn’t the best to Daryl. Also…Merle isn’t a moral person. Do you support blood even in immorality? So yes, this is his test. All the Geks off camera have literally told me that they know michonne is going to be epic based off all your guys comments when right now in the show, on my first watch, I had no idea what to expect and frankly I didn’t care too much for her or like her much, and I think that’s what the shows goal was at this point. Merle is such a wildcard. He seems like he's got no moral compass but he can be a vicious dog for you if your agenda aligns with his, perfect merc for the situation the group's stuck in now. I think if Rick was more stable in his mind he might have found a way to bring the brothers back to camp, but poor Rick is in his own world having PTSD episode from the baby's cry and battling with the ghost of Lori!!! Thank god for Tyrese and Sasha because they seem like good addition to the group. Also the goat of all time in this show has to be Hershel. He will be the OG GOAT forever, no character can replace him. Michonnes's got nothing on him.

Yeah basically from my point of view I had no idea what kind of a character Michonne was going to be and I have been very unseriously joking about her, but it’s been brought to my attention that she’s a very untouchable character and in multiple comment sections in a row she’s been heavily defended unlike any character we’ve seen. The first time meeting her she was very hyped up and it’s very apparent to all of us first time watchers that she’s will be a long running character that 100% becomes a fan favorite based on a lot of comments which kinda sucks because the surprise element of her character has been lost now. I know everyone has good intentions but from a first time point of view it’s very obvious to us and I think Cannon is just trying to protect our watch experience. I hope that makes sense

I agree with you almost 100% Cannon. People can’t help themselves. It’s hard. But I will say that Michonne is already showing some qualities that are likeable or badass: 1) she is sick with a sword. That’s pretty epic right there. 2) she helped Andrea at the end of S2. She didn’t have to. 3) she’s mysterious all with the silence and pet walkers and why was she by herself and how come this lady knows how to use a sword. So it’s intriguing. 4) she’s obv resilient. And that’s something to admire too. 5) she saw through the governor from the get go. We Stan a smart gal 6) she took the formula to the prison. Sure you can say she was trying to find people to help her because she was being hunted by Merle and the governor and now with Merle taking Glenn and Maggie that makes whatever group they came from automatically on her side against the gov and company, BUUUUUIT you could also make the argument that she would be better off running away. I think her bringing the formula straight to the prison buys her some good will. 7) and lastly, her sitting with the sword on her lap waiting for the governor and the the fight scene with him were I think absolutely amazing. Like a woman doing all of that is nothing short of mind blowing I think. Soooooo with all of this in mind that has happened so far, one can already have her as a favorite character and call her epic. Regardless of any possible future events. So in that sense hyping her at this point isn’t so much hindsighting. But I will say that even thought everything I mentioned is what has happened so far, the simple act of being able to truly notice it all and truly appreciate it is quite possibly mostly possible because of how we feel now about her, not how we felt then when we were at this point in the show for the first time. Because yeah, I remember liking Michonne on my first watch, but I’m not too sure I was able to appreciate then what I listed above the way I appreciate it now. Because on a first watch you aren’t usually on point, picking up all of the subtleties. And while the list I made above isn’t necessarily subtle, they’re kinda hidden by her demeanor for most people because it’s not like she has a “sterling personality ,” which is usually what we give the most premium at first. So yeah, you pretty much do have a point because even tho she’s a character worthy of hype already, one can also argue we are only able to see that now because of other things we know, so yeah, we all need to chill! :)

I was watching it then alongside everyone else. People were annoyed with Michonne and complaining about her saying she was too one note. Anya, yeah because pretty much everything she’s done so far has actually been very likeable. But it’s also true, which is what speaks to cannons point and is what I said at the end of my comment with the list about Michonne, that we are (or most of us I would guess) better equipped to fully appreciate why Michonne is already likeable at this point in the show because of how we have grown to watch her past this point. Because at the time, not too many people were able to make the list I made and be like “oh yeah, she’s the best” and my guess is that that’s because even tho all the items on my list were true, they’re kinda hidden by her demeanor which people didn’t like very much at the time and therefore had difficulty seeing past it.

While I'll say the Geks throw around "hindsight merchant" too often, there ARE definitely some hindsight merchant comments here revolving around Michonne. Not to excuse these sorts of comments, but I feel they often stem from you guys casting negative judgment on characters quickly, and many viewers aren't able to discern when you're being serious or not, either. Personally, you guys call characters "rats" and "bums" so often that the words have lost their meaning to me lol. I think the commenters should take these things into account before commenting. I think explanations of characters and disagreements regarding your guys' perceptions of characters are fine, as long as they are based on where you guys are at CURRENTLY. Some of the comments here are straight up saying she will change, which inevitably shapes your guys' perception of a character's future presence in the show.

Honestly I am a first time watcher, and even without looking at comments about Michonne, I already thought she was a goat very early on! I mean, she's strong, fearless it seems, not naive, smart, bold and she has a katana! Not to mention that she doesn't look like the sussy, cowardly or malicious type that stabs her people in the back for selfish reasons! Very important point for me here. The best kind of reactions are blind reactions, die hard defending a relatively new character like Michonne kind of sets up expectations for her characters survival imo and it's not like Mckay actually hates her, they are harmless jokes. Comments like "give her time to come around" implies she is here to stay for a while and if suddenly she is in a dangerous situation next episode you're not concerned for her dying in a show that kills off characters left and right. This is nowhere near as bad but Game of Thrones comment section was pretty guilty of setting up expectations and spoilers.

I've had siblings like Merle and like, yeah, they aren't ever to be trusted to look out for anyone but their family and themselves. But as long as you can convince them that looking out for the group *is* looking out for your family? They are a force to be reckoned with. And I do agree with Cannon that making a person choose between found family and blood is absolutely not fair, even if that blood is despicable, you can't expect someone to abandon their own - otherwise, what kind of person is that? Is that really someone you want at your back? Daryl made the call he had to make in that position imo. There was a compromise there (albeit a risky one) but Rick wasn't willing to bend, so Daryl took the only other choice he had.

random rant tangent, did anyone like the Odyssey? just watched it and I didn't like it I actually left the theater feeling very disturbed. Spoilers ahead: The score was bad, didn't feel any attachment to the characters and although we're fully aware it's a 10 year voyage back home, it felt very repetitive and boring because you don't really develop feelings or care for the crew throughout their struggles. More so despite Odysseus kept saying I want my crew to live, he doesn't really display emotions or feelings that he actually cares. Or maybe that's just Matt Damon's face but I think its more the writing that is bad, Odysseus can only cry or spare shedding tears when its the mermaids song but not for his men evidently. This wouldn't have bothered so much if they didn't emphasize on his redemption arc being about going back to Hades to put to rest his crew like (Sinon who?). Even him and Penelope taking a boat in exile for that very purpose at the end of this movie. No tangible emotional pull leading up to it so the end scene just feels hollow and meaningless. This anti-hero take doesn't make me really root for him as a main character (which is important since he is in 70% of the shots in the movie), there is a lot of focus on him being selfish and making dumb decisions which honestly I'd mutiny too if i was part of that crew. So basically i don't like how his character was written About the cast, it's stellar but did we need everyone there? no don't think so. Don't know why the movie had to start with Travis Scotts' doing some singing. The story doesn't suffer from not having it. The audience couldn't care less for it. No one needed it. This takes me back to that Ed Sheeran GOT scene. Blasphemy. We also definitely didn't need Athena/Zendaya's character. If they added more gods like Zeus/Poseidon then its a different story. I actually would have preferred to have more gods in the story. In any case Athena while she is supposed to be Oydsseus strongest ally in the original poem, this take on her character felt so unnecessary. Even at the climax when the pieces are supposed to fit together, her character's presence and what she is supposed to represent felt lacking. Actually, during those Odysseus/Athena scenes at the end, I felt like I was watching a terrible and very poorly done copy of Cobb/Saito in Inception when they're piecing back Cobb's story through memories in the dreamworld. On the opposite end, I wish we had more scenes with Menelaus/John bernhal and Calypso/Charlize Theron, i liked both the characters and the actors so wouldn't have minded more scenes with them... Also I am not sure this whole hollywood cast representation is doing the story justice, even if its fiction. I just don't see why we had to absolutely have LGBT, Asian, Black, White, etc all represented in a story about Greek Mythology when there no Greek actor/actresses anywhere in the cast of the movie. Like we want hollywood to cast their prejudices aside ofc and make the process organic to allow someone's talent to shine irrelevant of how they look like, their identity, their gender, etc but this feels almost forced down our throat and kinda takes you out of the immersion in the story. In series like Bridgerton its fine even if there are many cultural elements that do not represent our history's true period pieces. Because you have many episodes to immerse yourself and most importantly there isn't a war between 2 different cultures in Bridgerton. The diversity is embedded in the story and the focus is on drama in a very specific society class. You also have like 10 hours of viewership to either enjoy it, accept it or get used it. I think that can work for that type of writing. But for story about 1 side against another where both have very specific cultures Troy vs Ithaca and in it being a Homer's poem....you're treading on shaky grounds and setting yourself for major subconscious inner struggles in whoever is gonna watch it How do you expect me to believe in a greek mythological world when there is no intentional built culture being portrayed about it in the story especially between two warring sides. There is more focus in the cast's inclusivity/diversity. I'm talking about a real world building element proper to making you feel immersed. Like when I watch a movie I want to escape reality, not be reminded of it. I want to stay in the fiction world. I don't want the process of making the movie and the message it's relaying about the cast choice to be an overarching thought in the back of my head especially in an epic folkore fantasy story. This fiction world is supposed to be my new reality for at least the 2h52 minutes Im given. Even the boat is a viking-style boat and the armor is roman empire so we're definitely not caring about authenticity and world building. There are ways to have an inclusive cast that is able to support and respect the story's world building and cultural elements, I think House of the Dragon does this very well even if its fiction, it is quite believable and almost makes you think you're watching real history with fantasy elements. But again its drama court focused more like bridgerton. that whole cersei scene don't get me started on it. Was so disturbing too, the gore is a tad too much for me same with the Cyclops scene (i was about to throw up in the theaters). I know greek mythology is not for the faint heart so maybe I am not the right audience but I think I'll pass on the way Nolan decided to direct/write this. I don't care if its shot IMAX and it's a film prowess and the process was amazing, as a humble viewer I just care about whether I will like the end result so the movie itself and I don't so very disappointed. I'm just gonna stick to reading Homer's poem (or better yet the cartoon I watched when I was younger Mission Odyssey: The Journey of Ulysses to satisfy my younger self). There are parts I liked about the movie ofc, like the Hades scene love how it was shot, also liked seeing Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway's performances, I liked that the ocean waves were shot in a way that was realistic and felt mighty, the aura of Agamemnon. Anyway, the movie is lacking and honestly almost is a stain to the memory of the real homer's story so might as well say it's a story inspired by it like a modern take and give it another name but don't call it the Odyssey.... my era of Christopher Nolan movies though might be at an end. I can see so many elements of his previous works being used in this one too (for example the way the story is told through memories and flashbacks like Inception, the moody/serious tone like the Dark Knight, the washed up despair of a ship crew at sea like Dunkirk, this anguish/regret plaguing the main character like both in Oppenheimer and Inception, etc). Although I loved Inception, Interstellar and the Dark Knight they will always be in my top 10 movies, I don't feel adding those same elements was the best portrayal for this type of epic like L'illiade and Odyssey. I just end up comparing it to his previous works and you def don't wanna be doing that in the middle of watching it in the theaters. Again, not being able to be fully immersed in a story is one thing, bad writing is another. Gotta say also his latest ones Dunkirk, Tenet, Oppenheimer were not ones I particulary enjoyed so im gotta take my leave on this and probaly won't rush to buy a ticket for his next one so eagerly
