Yeah, I honestly don't know why they chose to portray her the way they do, but she does have sway over the people in Woodbury. It's just the Governor and his goons who take advantage of her. Had she known from the start, she likely would've left Woodbury with Michonne, but she only learned some things after becoming invested in the town and its people.

Oh, you guys should totally react or at least watch on your own time and share your opinions walking dead bad lip reading. Some videos on youtube feature some of the later seasons. But i am pretty sure the very first video takes places primarily for seasons 1-3. I only just thought about it again when seeing the governor tap on the table. Those are such hilarious videos.

The problem is that the audience sees the governor sexually assault Maggie, get Glen tortured, and kill innocent survivors so people come to an obvious conclusion about his moral character. But then people expect Andrea to come to the same conclusion just because he looks at zombie heads in tanks to desensitize himself. I feel like in an apocalypse doing that isn’t that crazy. Not as crazy as Hershel letting the group sleep beside a barn full of alive walkers without telling them. 😂 Idk man I just feel like Andrea gets overly criticized but everyone else gets the benefit of the doubt.

Having watched this for the first time in my teens and now re-watching it as an adult, I honestly see Andrea in such a different light. Her character is really interesting and complex. She is given stereotypically “manly” traits as a character—ambition, strength, overly opinionated, and outspoken, while the other women in the show are often more “passive” (which is not necessarily a bad thing). I therefore find it interesting to see the hate that she receives and whether it is related to gender. I do find her character somewhat irritating at times, but her intentions have never been malicious or ill-intended—so why such vitriol? Is it because she is a woman? Would we feel the same if she were a man? I haven’t fully decided on an answer, but these are some questions I’ve been considering.

You're ignoring the glaring obvious reason lol shes literally with the villain currently, who sexually assaulted one of our own and is currently planning to kill our group. She's defended him more than once both when she was being lied to and manipulated, and when enough of the truth has come out about him and she still decided to go back and defend him some more. I'm sure she'll come around in the end, the show is obviously setting her up to betray the governor or something, but currently, shes still on the governor team. She's betrayed both our group and Michonne to be on the governor team, so yeah, its very obvious why people dont like her lol do you honestly think if Daryl was in her position the geks and fans wouldnt be hating him too for betraying the group? You want it to be about sexism instead of just looking at the facts.

i mean, to say it has 0 to do with that is just ignorant, but its more that a character like hers just has less of a character arc and less sauce than daryl at this point. Andrea has been on a rough arc since really early on, meaning she was kind of always aligned on the wrong side of beloved characters even tho she hasnt been malicious. The problems with Dale, the alignment with Shane while he was spiraling, and now with Woodbury while theyre at odds with our group. Her arc up until now has also been mostly about trying to find a reason to keep going (hasnt been much of one until finding woodbury) and trying to attain some kind of self agency, which has already been taken from her in this show more than once. She 100% has ignored red flags earlier on regarding the govenor but its become less of that now and more of her just trying to make peace so innocent people dont get dragged into this war. Is it obvious why people dont like her? yeah it is. are people acting like shes a morally corrupt and evil character thats on the wrong team because a guy smiles at her and has sex with her? yeah they are, and that is quite an overreaction.

I totally get the angle that Andrea being associated with the villain (the governor) is going to make her a disliked character. However, it is interesting that her morally questionable actions are often villainised to an extent that I think even Shane did not receive. I remember when this first aired, Andrea was by far one of the most hated characters. It is quite clear that Andrea has made bad/questionable decisions, but her character is complex, similar to Shane — also exceptionally interesting and complex, often struggling with his desire and loyalty. I just find the response to these types of characters interesting — it might not be a sexism thing, I am open to considering all possibilities.

Its possible the governor will try to chase them down. But its a certainty they will lose lives if they dont escape. They have the literal entire united states or mexico or canada they can run to. Also the main reason there is conflict in the first place is because of their close proximity to each other. The only real dilemma is wether or not its worth losing lives to be able to keep the prison base they have/take over woodbury/surrounding resources. Fighting because "were gonna have to fight them eventually" is just factually wrong. This isnt the modern world anymore where your enemy can track you with advanced technology/internet/unlimited transportation. Those resources are now extremely scarce if not unavailable. If in the middle of the night Ricks group just decides to pack up and drive away... literally how will the Governnor even find them? By the time they realise the prison is abandoned it will have been hours if not days. And in that time they could be in a different state if not a different country. Theres no realistic reason why the Governor would be able to figure out where theyve gone.

I don’t find Andrea as annoying as most because I don’t think she’s ‘bewitched’ by the governor. She’s attached to Woodbury. She doesn’t want to see it go down and the people are very much looking to her too even though she’s only been there a short time. This season started off with her thinking she’s pretty much dead sick after a whole winter of just surviving the outside and she’s finally in an enclosed, safe space. There’s just too much at stake from an audience perspective too though - the governor is unhinged and even though her intentions ARE pure, it’s naive because he is who he is and would never settle for peace or compromise. His ego won’t allow it. The only sexist part for me is that I’m almost 90% sure that if there was never an element of flirtation or sex between her and the governor, the hate would be drastically reduced . The worst a woman can do is sleep with a bad man. Not be bad herself. The sex usually brings about the most vitriol. That and cheating. It’s a classic social response that I’ve learnt to just tune out 😂
