Peak has arrived. It is not uncommon for someone to have this as their favorite episode in all of Jojo's. Very beloved episode with everything that makes Jojo's great all in one episode. Absurdity, high stakes, an intellectual back and forth, and a unique fight where not a single punch is thrown. ✋😐🤚

Absolute peak episode. So good. Anyone who loved this episode should def give Kaiji a try too. It's basically this episode for the whole show, based on this idea of gambling, cheating and tricking others. Literal top 5 anime and maybe THE best mindgame show out there, the strategies the characters come up with are all so damn clever it's insane. After Jojo that will be my next hypest reaction to hope seeing some day.

Yes I think so. DN's author wrote clever plays but a lot of it is also Light being a demon and manipulating people with the help of his acting skills and the power of the Death Note. In Kaiji the characters don't have the Death Note or police force ressources acting as a sort of crutch, the strategies the author comes up with are completely reliant on their minds and out-of-the-box thinking.

Jotaro's always been a menace throughout this part but I think this is the point where the character definitely gains credibility and respect by most viewers as being the real deal instead of just some aurafarming character. The reason is that the danger feels very real. It's easy to empathize with this situation and think about how overwhelmingly nerve-wracking it would be. Reason why Jotaro's victory feels so satisfying and deserved. The character completely lives up to what the author hypes him up to be.

I think what makes D'Arby so compelling as a villain is that he's so well characterised as a gambler that you start believing that he'd do this shit to the guys if they saw him without meeting DIO.

Our chief animation director, Masahiko Komino, directly managed the episode. It's a part of the story he particularly appreciates and he's effectively put everything in it. I liked Daniel's transformation, who's all bleached at the end of the game. Also there's the ending where Iggy then looks from the corner of his eye, that's him all right. He's really well made for this, it's easy to use this dog to punctuate a scene as we like (laughs). Daniel's ability is really fearsome. Had he not bent to Jotaro's bluff, he would have annihilated the group in one move with a disconcerting ease. It's a really powerful enemy. There wasn't a Stand fight properly speaking, but the situation was more critical than ever. A struggle that has taken a form different than usual, but where the tension was real.” - Naokatsu Tsuda
