i can't understand OP fans who dont like this arc, i was reading it in manga when it was coming out and it was SO GOOD. I really fell in love with OP during this time. It does drag a big, and the pacing of the anime has its bad moments, but the arc is so good IMO it overshadows all that. This, to me, is an S tier arc and a lot of the one piece fans im friends with. I originally watched without one pace and although the filler and repeated flashbacks were a drag it still made it in my top 10 which goes to show how incredible the story/plot points are in this arc.

Strangely enough, I never realized it had bad pacing until I caught up to the anime. I binged it one spring/summer and by the time I had caught up to One Piece, the Dressrossa arc was about to end so I jumped to the manga and kept watching the anime until the arc ended. After that, I couldn't stand the weekly stuff so I wouldn't watch episodes unless I had stacked 10-20 episodes at once. Better watch that way.

Idk if I’m weird for this but I genuinely love Skypiea, Fishman Island, and Dressrosa. I watched them all in the normal way, and I’ll admit they have their flaws and could’ve been better, but that never stopped me from enjoying them. Idk if it’s because I’ve rewatched One Piece so many times, but I feel like it made me appreciate some of the stories and characters I didn’t really care about before. So idc what anyone says, Dressrosa is such a great arc and it’s only gonna get better and better 🤷‍♀️

Even tho the Straw Hats have some insane love for Luffy, I feel like in some ways it’s different from the love Ace and Sabo have for him. It’s like he lets his guard down because of the love and protection he feels from them, and it’s so beautiful because these two were the very first people to hear about his dream and believe in him.

Been waiting for this one for so long, also for the beginning discussion you can love evil characters, my love for a character is determined mainly by how much I enjoy them being on screen, for example Doffy is charismatic, great voice and laugh, drip, aura, and the way he fights and the way he uses his fruit is so cool, plus his personality, etc., meanwhile Joffrey is just annoying, they're both good characters who are good for the story, but Joffrey is specifically designed so you can't stand him, a much better comparison would be Celestial Dragons who ofc pretty much everyone hates even if they're great villains, Doffy's my favorite because he's my favorite to watch, St. Charlos though? Nobody wants to watch him

Also I completely agree with Carter. First time I watched One Piece, the second BB got introduced he instantly became my favorite character in the whole show. Every time I say that people freak out like I just said I agree with everything he does, which is such a dumb take. Half the characters in this series are morally cooked, that doesn’t mean they aren’t interesting. What makes him cool is everything that surrounds him. He’s ambitious, dedicated, always playing some longer game, kind of like Luffy in that way except BB is a piece of crap. That’s why he’s so fun every time he’s on screen. You never know which version of him you’re looking at and its both exciting and terrifying to witness and not many characters are able to do this.

1:18:50 Some context for that yall! Dressrosa with Pace saves 1500+ minutes.. and yes it was the breaking point of SOOO many fans back when it aired. (2014-2016) It was the reason i didnt jump in back then, the horror stories and clips were too bad

The guide definitely helps a lot for the amount of eps you cover per week. It's great that OG eps are mixed in for the more story significant or emotional parts. Any time I would catch up to watching OG One Piece weekly the slow pace would kill the hype. After a while I switched to pausing the show until an arc was done so I could binge it afterwards instead. That way it was still enjoyable even with slower pacing since I could progress through the story in a couple of sittings. OG Dressrosa is still good if you can binge it imo.

Love Dressrosa, but I just can't get on board putting it above Marineford and Sabaody. Whitebeard for me, is the most well-written character we have gotten in the whole damn show so far. Just thinking about the narrator speech when WB died gives me actual chills. And then Sabaody was just so frickin calorie-dense. That stretch of Kuma separating the whole crew and Luffy's reaction is still unmatched.

I decided to check where you would be without the guide and you would be 15 episodes behind if you watched 2 episodes every session. Funny enough, Carter is right, you would be one episode shy of Luffy defeating Chinjao. So a good amount has been cut, but I don't think you guys would be hating it tbh. Idk if it would be at the top for you guys, but considering that One Pace episodes are longer in length and the show has like 6+ min of opening and recap, I would guess that roughly 35% of the content has been cut so far. That's a lot but I don't think it would be immersion breaking. The back half of this arc has even more atrocious pacing though. That's where One Pace is really necessary imo.

Sabo reveal is so amazing. Trust in Oda, even if a scene switch seems "wrong", it's because Oda is saving something great for later, he's done it time after time. The switch to Luffy/Zoro/Kinemon running around in animal costumes tho is definitely one of the more absurd ones lmao.

In the manga, Sabo was actually teased to be alive in the Cover Story of chapter 668, which is in the middle of Punk Hazard. The cover was a single panel, of Ace and Whitebeard's graves, with the 3 sake cups + flowers + newspaper in front of Ace's grave, same as the final scene from ep 663. There are lots of small (and big) teases and easter eggs for the story/characters in the cover stories, you guys should really check them out at some point, especially the one about Enel's journey on the Moon 👀

I agree that Dressrosa gains so much because of the set up and how it's a culmination of moving pieces that we've already been introduced to. It is a crazy start and I'm so looking forward to what's next. I've watched the og and the problem truly was the pacing. I've seen that arcs from here on just really get longer and you feel things have started to really move in order to reach the end yknow (Luffy and Law's alliance to take down a yonko....). In general though, the arcs get longer and move more or less like Dressrosa has, so I think you'll really enjoy this second half of One Piece (not too much on FMI! 😂 I'll admit it has it lows but I'll defend it is still a good arc overall).

How far you guys are into this arc: Anime Episodes - 36/118 = 30.5% Manga Chapters - 32/102 = 31.3% So story wise it's basically the same amount in both versions, ~31% through the arc, but batch wise you guys are at 10 of around ~35 batches total. Many great things lie ahead!

I would have to disagree with 'Fishmen didn't have much build up'. It's been set since Arlong and as the story goes on you catch on to the discrimination fishermen received. And I'm ngl I hated Hordy which made me not as much like the arc BUT I can't ignore the history it told was beautifully done and Luffy asking Jimbei to join was heart-warming. We found out some great lore as we moved into the New World AND told off an emperor. I know I'm listing the peak parts in the arc, but all-together it's not a bad arc, even tho I do have it at the lowest of the post-time skip arcs. I just think it got a bad rep due to pacing, villain, etc.

I caught up to one piece during this arc. It’s unanimous the pacing was not good. I’m glad there using one pace. That being said ‘most’ people stop watching the show necessarily but I think it definitely affected the opinion of the arc. That’s being said the high highs of this arc was so good that it’s still many people’s top 7-10 arcs from what I’ve gathered. I could see why this would be a top 5 arc. that reunion always gets me, just imagining it from Luffy's POV, ever since Ace died he'd be thinking he's the only one left of his brothers and then realizing he still has Sabo, I'd be so overwhelmed with emotion I think I'd literally like pass out, I swear when he's crying it even sounds like his voice is more similar to his voice when he was little, almost like seeing Sabo again reverted him back to that little boy chasing his older brothers around I'm also very happy you's didn't forget Koala, I had been spoiled on Sabo so the Koala reveal honestly shocked me so much more, from that little girl who was too traumatized to even know how to smile properly to someone who looks genuinely happy... god this is the One Piece I live for 😭 also without spoiling anything, I don't think you's have experienced the peaks of this arc yet, well the Sabo reunion is definitely one of them but there's plenty more peak to come

I do have to say. I love one piece and I loved dressrosa when I watched it but I hated the arc further down the line. And it really is because of the pacing. But now rewatching it with better pace through you guys dressrosa is actually peak. Though you should know that every arc from her on is peak. Every single arc. Dressrosa hate is past self forgetting how good it was. It doesn’t deserve the hate. It’s so damn good.

I got spoiled that Sabo comes back to try and get the fruit, so I knew it was gonna happen, and yet I'm still sitting over here with tears in my eyes. Peak
