mckay, robin can "grow" different body parts whenever she wants. before the timeskip she mostly grew arms and eyes but now she can do it with larger parts like a head or a whole torso

It's also soooo crazy how One Pace cut how Robin became a toy. Especially knowing that Robin being a toy is critical since everyone has forgotten her like the straw hats. Robin tried to put the grape in the Sugar’s mouth but the girl ended up touching Robin's clone arm. Also the straw hats forgetting Robin, means Usopp/Sogeking never happened. Usopp forgot about the bravery he showed in Enies Lobby which that arc played a major role to his character. Makes sense he was running, but I was frustrated as well because of the build up for SOP and I needed him to lock in😭

An interesting fan theory about Ussop here is that when Robin was turned into a toy, Ussop's memories of her an thus the character arc he underwent during Water 7/Ennies Lobby were wiped out. He essentialy had to "redo" the same character growth and face his fears again like he did with the sogeking arc. It gives a little more reason as to why he was extra cowardly at the beginning. Ussop will finally have achieved his dreams once he realizes that he is a brave warrior of the sea every time he reconquers his fears and fights with his life on the line. He is actually the only straw hat on the ship that has already achieved his dream, he just needs to realize it

Not that it excuses Usopp in any way, because he deserves the criticism, however when Sugar turned Robin into a toy (again, the One Pace cuts are criminal) he did forget her and the arc it took to save her. He had to become Sogeking in order to save his friend. Without remembering her, he never learned that courage. Just a way I've always rationalized it.

I love Usopp as a character because he's hilarious and Luffy's best friend, and even though he has a very cowardly *personality* and talks a lot of shit, when the need is there for someone to step up and be brave in a desperate situation, Usopp always comes through. Syrup Village, Arlong Park, Alabasta, Skypiea, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Sabaody, Punk Hazard, now Dressrosa, Usopp is consistently brave and faces off against people way stronger. He might have a lot of thoughts/dialogue about running away or avoiding a fight, and he shows a lot of fear, but his actions almost always contradict what he is actually thinking/saying, and ends up always moving forward towards danger and showing true bravery by putting his life on the line, which goes back to his first interaction with Luffy where Luffy tells him "Now that you've drawn your pistol, put your life on the line". Cowardly personality and showing fear does not make Usopp a coward.

I like the take that Usopp is an anime extreme take on fear (and the overcoming of it). I would like to add that he is also the Straw Hat's default comic relief character (Luffy excluded given his crew is a reflection of him). I also just realized with this watch that you guys are right in that Usopp was putting on the mask as Sogeking before but this is him accepting himself, even if his debatably misled fans still ironically look up to him under a fake moniker. Another pro-Usopp trait is that he is the main storyteller of the Straw Hats who is capable of spreading their fame through story, fact or fiction. I will stay an Usopp apologist, but I can admit the gag where he trembles with fear even now can be exhausting.

I still think this was a strong Usopp moment. And it was great to see the Geks noticing this is development since Usopp showed his true self and didn't use Sogeking as a facade. I feel like the only problem was that Usopp's fears were really played into with going as far as to willingly sacrifice the Tontattas. Carter made a great point about maybe it being because they're facing off against a warlord + emperor. But I feel like that never stopped him before(???). At least not to the extent of actually saying he'd be willing to sacrifice other people that he KNEW were not capable. I think that was the only part about it that rubbed me the wrong way. Not saying I don't understand Cannon's frustration LMAOOO, I think Koby is a pretty good comparison. But it's like canonically confirmed that Usopp is the most pessimistic/negative/scared character ever (thank you my goat Perona🙇‍♀️) which is why it's so hard for him to be brave

I also like to think about a real life Usopp. I hate heights (a known fact with my family) but they will still schedule hiking trips. I always end up staying at the bottom, scared for my life. But if it was Usopp, that boy is climbing to the top while whining, crying, snotting and all. He'd make it and I feel like if someone was able to do that, everyone would call them brave

Usopp pissed me off so badly in these episodes; I didnt feel like him coming back and fighting in that moment even redeemed how horrible it was for him to try to flee in the first place back there. I cant believe that some people think that's normal for the average human being, genuinely impossible for me to believe it would take that much. Frankly Leo's first speech about the soldier would have convinced anyone. If this was realistic, no soldiers would fight in wars.

Guys some episodes are out of order, some scenes appear too early when they’re intended for later in the series. while others seem cut off or incomplete. I am not sure if the issue lies with the site itself or something else, but I recommend switching to a different site to watch it.

In the original the pacing was so bad that it solidified my hate for Ussop back then and still somewhat does cos planning on leaving the Tontatta's cause even when you're own crew's backing them is crazy, but now with a more well paced arc I can see what Carter was saying where guys like Ussop are needed (especially on Luffy's crew where he doesn't consider danger) in this show. His reintroduction to the fight I didn't actually remember, but I think him being honest to the Tontatta's for the first time, while still risking his life for them was actually really good especially for the 'liar' type character. I definitely agree with what Cannon was saying the most though, I think that what we saw with the two brothers in Fan Letter was better then most things Ussop has done. All in all I just wish his character would stop getting amnesia every arc and remember he is strong, because its not like this is even close to the first time he's been in a similar situation even if he forgot Enies Lobby and Robin.

I totally understand the Usopp frustrations. When I first saw this part, it drove me insane that Usopp was running away. I was genuinely mad with his character lol. At least he stood on business in the end - it almost redeems him.

He was consumed by guilt and shame, believing that disappearing from everyone's minds was the only way to stop being a beast or stain to others.

Ussop became a way more coward because he forgot everything including sogeking from saving robin and his new bravery from it. they cut everything. from turning to ussop reacting to forgetting and becoming more jittery from it. I’m sorry bro but I can’t stand Usopp as a character lol I understand he has SOME redeeming qualities, but for the love of all that is holy, how many freaking times do we have to see him being a GIANT PUSSY??? It’s so annoying. His good moments do not outweigh the rest of the time, I’m sorry. He’s proven time and again that he’s a sniveling crybaby. If it takes people begging you to help as the last possible chance that they will survive for you to do something, I don’t think that immediately forgives the entire time before that when you were just letting them die basically. I’m expecting pushback on this comment, I know people like him. This is all just a personal gripe with the character. It’s completely subjective.
