Regarding the lack of compassion for Meghan I always saw it as he protected her and that shows strength versus if he ran to comfort her he’d show vulnerability. I believe the last time he ran to comfort her he showed weakness as he was stuck in a pit until they were saved. He was in a vulnerable situation. He probably felt weak and helpless. So from my perspective The Governor always being a persona of everything but himself he locked in or locked himself in a mindset that he never wants to leave again. He’s always talking about doing whatever it takes and this is his messed up way, illogical and logical at times, of offering what he can. But he’s still a loser. He’s still lost. That family isn’t his family and his actual family can never come back so he’s dueling with himself which is why he appears that he’s doing everything best for the community while simultaneously pointing a gun at Michonne and Hershel. He’s unstable. Completely. His body, his mind and his heart are anything but attached. He wants everything but nothing. He’s just a broken complex man who used to be in charge of his life. And then his family was taken from him. No longer in charge. Then his eye was taken. No longer in charge. Then Rick told him no. No longer in charge. Then Andrea tried to leave him. No longer in control. Even if he loved Meghan and cared about her he could never show it because nothing ever lasts. He’s a losing version of Rick. And he knows it. And he can’t sit with it.

The governor didn't lose his compassion for the girl. Instead it's his driving motivation, he cannot go through loss, he was even in denial with his real daughter (keeping her as a walker). imo the reason he didnt comfort the girl is because it wasnt needed, he assessed the situation and declared it was safe. and thats whats most important, safety is all he is thinking about. no room to be caring, only business.

I think when "Brian" saw the girl in danger, he was reminded on how he felt when he lost his family the first time? And same when he killed Martinez, they were having a convo about how he was gonna go through loss again. Brian cannot stand to lose. It is almost like he HAS TO become the devil to protect what he loves. (or he thinks he loves. I think he likes the idea of being a protector, a survivor. Whoever he is with does not seem to matter)

Maybe im mistaken but the opening scene with him talking to the girl next to the tank. Thats after he takes over, so i think he still cares for her. I think just in that moment he was cold because to get in that mode of evil he has to shut off. And so for that moment he shut off.

46:51 I feel like he just left because that confirmed that he needs some place safer (the prison), I also think it ties back to his line to Milton last season about Penny would be scared of the man he is now but at least she would still be alive. He goes to look at Pete in the pool the same way he looks at his fish tanks then drives out to scout the prison. I don't think it "killed" his compassion towards her in the sense that he doesn't care about her anymore, its more like he is a man on a mission now, he's back to his old ruthless ways.

The concept of redemption is so interesting. He has specifically ended over 100 lives in bet. But what if he actually turns things around and somehow goes onto save 1000 ppl? Makes a real town and it goes on to prosper? And he's genuinely nice while doing it. Or what if u save 10,000 lives? Or even just an equal amount? Its an odd situation.
