There's a clear difference in power between Espada 5 and 4 (without taking Segunda Etapa in consideration) because of the hollow class the top 4 are. The Espada from 5 and down are Adjuchas class. It's never really confirmed Ulquiorra is Vasto Lorde but he looks very humanoid when he was a hollow, which is a Vasto Lorde trait. Also, Kubo meant to have Ulquiorra's fight with Vasto Lorde Ichigo be less of a beat down but he couldn't because of time constraints his editor and Shonen Jump were giving him. You can watch a short version of what Kubo envisioned in the intro credits of the Hell movie. I will fight tooth and nail that Ulquiorra is the strongest of the Espada with Segunda Etapa.

Alex Ramirez

Uryu as an archer was not having a good time against Ulquiorra 💀

oh my goodness

Justin ⟢

Ulquiorra is my favourite villain in OG Bleach. Such a well written character.

ThirtyStik

2010 was a sick year for the big 3.. bleach had this, Naruto had the pain assault arc, and I’m pretty sure OP marineford

Luker

we are 270 plus episodes in and yall still suprised soul reapers can float my goodness lmao

TB0796

I’m not sure if your planning to watch the hellverse movie but if not there is a minute long reanimated segment of this fight that I highly encourage you to watch

Vlad

This is from “King and horse” fight like 100 episodes ago should explain Ichigo new form

kuza

man that panel is so damn hard

NextLuna

Ulquiorra before he dies. His eyes seem to return to their normal appearance, and I think there's a deeper meaning behind that. Throughout the fight, Ulquiorra constantly questions the existence of the human heart and emotions. He believes they're meaningless because he can't physically see or understand them. Yet, in his final moments, when Orihime reaches out to him, he finally begins to understand what having a heart truly means. Ichigo temporarily loses his humanity by becoming a monster to protect someone he loves, while Ulquiorra, who has always been portrayed as an emotionless monster, begins to discover his own humanity right before disappearing. The irony is that Ichigo becomes more Hollow despite being human, while Ulquiorra becomes more human despite being a Hollow. Whether the eye changes were intentional symbolism or just an artistic choice, I think it's a really interesting detail that makes the ending of their fight much more meaningful.

blacklung sanji

it's crazy that this fight, marineford, and pain arc all aired at the same time in 2010 bruh

tami

Ulquiorra tries so hard this fight to understand why Ichigo fights even in the face of despair. His whole character arc of trying to find heart and meaning while being such a nihilistic character is so beautiful. And I agree with Carter in that yes there are a lot of fights in bleach but the fights are a vehicle for the themes and character relationships. Ichigo’s fights are always a conversation with his opponent through the sword and I love it so much

Alex Ramirez

Vasto Lorde Ichigo foreshadowing when Ichigo was training with the Vizoreds

tami

Generational poem from kubo Ulq finally finding his heart, all the chapters of this volume are the seven deadly sins with the ulquiorra fight being the lust chapters

tami

It really ties back to kaien’s speech to rukia about heart. That the heart lies in your bonds with others. Ulquiorra finally forms a bond at the end with orihime and also ichigo.

Rajni Brown

One thing you might have missed. In the beginning, white (the hollow side of Ichigo) stated that when he is close to death, that is when he would take over and that's exactly what he did when Ichigo was on the verge of death.

genuinely think the sound design, imagery and ost of ulquiorra’s segunda etapa is some of the sickest stuff ive ever seen in anime. love that scene

La Distancia Para Un Duelo playing in the back after he transformed

Jack

ABSOLUTE CINEMA, I haven’t felt this way during an arc in a minute. Can’t wait to watch more and figure out exactly what’s going with Ichigo

Jack

So confirmed Ichigo is a Vasto Lorde or is that a spoiler?

Jack

BRUH I WISH IT WAS UNCENSORED LIKE CMON

Jack

Makes sense. It’s his hollow side evolving to the point where he isn’t in control and it goes insane

Jack

Dang that art is sick

Alex Ramirez

[Original reply deleted to include the image] It's not a spoiler, Vasto Lorde Ichigo is a name the fandom has given this form. Remember that Ichigo is fighting his inner hollow. Vasto Lordes are humanoid looking hollows + are incredibly strong.

monsterhead

have we seen power of this scale on the channel before?

Jnasty

How you like them apples?

ThirtyStik

(Unofficially) Ulquiorra is a play on “ el que llora “ which in English translates to “the one/he who cries” and his CD adds on with the streaks running from his eyes and him being pretty much heartless with a hole in his chest

Guys, I’m begging you! AFTER WATCHING EPISODE 275, read Chapter 1 of Bleach: Official Character Book 3 UNMASKED. It’s just 13 pages, and you’ll gain a much deeper appreciation for Ulquiorra. It is a key to his personality

Nefertem

Did you guys completely forget about the hollow inside of him the “white” ichigo that he had to defeat to get control of his hollow powers??

Michael H

Poor Ishida, just left to bleed out as they all have their post-battle moments and epiphanies 😂

Alex Ramirez

Ichigo's inner hollow telling Ichigo he will throw Ichigo off and crush his skull the moment he senses weakness is a spoiler? This conversation happened before Ichigo infiltrated Hueco Mundo... it's foreshadowing to this fight.

Bradyy

Why did yall switch off Disney plus again?

ThirtyStik

Yea cannon I agree with the ulq trying to save uryu and somewhat having an understanding of the situation. I think he cut the horn to knock him off that path he was going down

Zanpakuto Popularity Poll! This time instead of most popular character, it’s the most popular Zanpakuto (it was includes kido and other techniques/powers) Anyways here is the Top Ten: 1. Tōshirō Hitsugaya's Hyōrinmaru 2. Rukia Kuchiki's Sode no Shirayuki 3. Ichigo Kurosaki's Zangetsu 4. Izuru Kira's Wabisuke 5. Byakuya Kuchiki's Senbonzakura 6. Shūhei Hisagi's Kazeshini 7. Renji Abarai's Zabimaru 8. Gin Ichimaru's Shinsō 9. Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez's Pantera 10. Ichigo Kurosaki's Tensa Zangetsu

Ishida in the manga actually lost his arm instead of it just looking broken in the anime for censorship. Ulquiorra says, ‘So this is the arm?’ That is his dominant arm to shoot and aim his arrows. Which is why we see him go into melee mode cos he cannot use the bow anymore. Ulquiorra did that essentially to show that Ishida cannot win even with his battle iq, he can just end it by blitzing and taking away his main weapon to even fight.

kai

no because imagine the utter despair ichigo must’ve felt he was getting ragdolled the entire fight, and just to troll him this MF TRANSFORMS AGAIN into a whole nother form that not even aizen has seen……

kkloyd

Here is your panel 🤗

Kenji Harima

It's not impossible to believe Ulquiorra actually saves Uryu after Uryu stopped Ichigo from finishing him off when he was reduced to a stump. I mean we see this kind of thing happen a lot with the Arrancars. Like when Grimmjow helps Orihime because she healed him, or even Menoly (the female Arrancar) refusing to join in beating Orihime up for the same reason. I think it's interesting because, despite being driven by their instincts, Hollows still have some humanity left in them. And Tite Kubo ties that into the whole idea of what a Hollow is (throughout the arc) and what's actually missing from them. Like Ulquiorra's emptiness and his struggle to understand the human heart, Nnoitra missing an eye while being unable to see his own worth, or Grimmjow's hollow stomach reflecting his hunger for dominance. In between the sick fights there's definitely a lot to unpack, so this is all to say it's possible lol.

2026-10-09 08:00 So first off, I want you guys to refer to when ichigo goes into Zangetsu and talks with "Old Man" and "white" for the rest of the entirely of bleach.... I promise you it will answer so many questions for you eventually.... just keep it at the back of your mind.. Another thing, bleach 1000% does not spoon feed you information and is why its something you have to really pay attention to... (even when you think its "burger" as you like to call it)....I kid you not you will find something new that connects to something every time you rewatch it (meaning its not a anime you watch once to understand everything). This is why Kubo's writing abilities is one of the best (and im genuinely not just glazing him). Also it might be "Shonen" but it will always be "that" deep in the entire journey you get with this. The bleach universe and emotions behind everything genuinely takes you on a journey. Also protect Rukia slander at all costs. Ichigo wouldn't be awakened to who he is without her. @McKay...I'll ask you this for the second official time.... did you change your mind in regards to Nnoitra vs Ulquiorra? lmaooooooooo (I say all this not to nitpick or criticize. I just want to help you guys understand what you got yourself into with bleach haha) With love and respect x

Lapp

ulquiorra's transformation having such an immense amount of spiritual pressure it physically condenses and starts to rain down. rain being such a heavy representation of pain and despair from loss and defeat throughout the show. kubo is just different. ulquiorra's writing and design (both inside and outside of fights) deserves endless glaze

Ninjinzo

Take into consideration on Ulquiorra saying ‘I haven’t even shown Aizen this form.’ Aizen ranked the espadas based on how he saw their power therefore ranking them based on it. Maybe it can question ur rankings on Ulquiorra compared to the other Espadas since he stated that he’s the only one to have a Segunda.

kai

i love this panel so much you could just feel the aura coming through the screen

LuvStarburst

I had to check to see if someone posted the uncensored version of what he did to Ishidas left arm lol.

Pats

The dichotomy of ulquiorra not understanding what a ‘heart’ is and him dying by not being able to regenerate internal organs is crazy. You can take so much meaning from Kubo’s work, whether it’s intentional or not, Bleach does a phenomenal job of making you think. So good to hear the post episode discussion. Thanks geks 🫶🏼

kuza

FOR MMEEEE, this is the best of old Bleach, especially Ulquiorra even more so when you consider how bad the pacing was and sadly will be until old Bleach ends but new Bleach is peak, and if this had today's direction, it would easily look 3 times better than it already does!!!!!!!!!

mari_b

Yessss. Absolutely.

kuza

carter said it perfectly there in that post discussion

aye bee

i feel like one thing these episodes show is how much this verse scales past naruto and one piece power wise, ulquiorra’s lanca made an explosion that was literally endgame shippuden level 😂

Enma

I really like this poem, and this volume was also really great. It’s very dramatic and emotional, the artwork is also fantastic. Just a very layerful and meaningful volume imo. One of the cool things about it is that each chapter’s title is a deadly sin. Each chapter also references and somewhat discusses their respective sin. And by now I think you guys understand that the Espada are meant to be representative about that. Anyways, I wanted to share some manga panels I thought were cool from this fight (chapters 343-354) in the replies below!

Colton McKay

When the manga was running weekly, this fight was running at the same time as the manga Naruto vs Pain fight. It was a wild and exciting time for both fandoms

Also much respect to you Cannon for digging into the deeper meaning of things this episode... thats what Tite Kubo intended with his work was for you to dig deeper into the foreshadowing... and like you said... actions speaker louder than words... they say eyes are the key to the soul.... look at ulquiorra's eyes towards the end... very happy to hear that you caught that

Enma

Ninjinzo

Definitely a possibility. Which is great that it is and the answer isn't given to us. But given to us in a way where we can form an answer from the hints we get on what we see. Kubo did a good job on writing each Espada especially Ulquiorra.

i really am giving him his roses for that he would make kubo proud

Ninjinzo

im pretty sure it's because of the annoying tv cuts they have been forced to watch especially in intense moments.

kuza

GEKS! There is a bleach movie "hellverse" where they reanimate part of the ichigo ulquiorra fight and I think thats probably the best animation or atleast one of the best animated scenes to ever come out of bleach , no need to watch the whole movie just the opening scene. It's only like 2 minutes long so if yall could include that at the start of next batch or something where ever yall would place it that would be amazing.

mari_b

Personally I've always thought of this batch of Espada fights in Hueco Mundo/Las Noches(155-272) as bookends because it beautifully brings up the idea of what/where is the heart? Answers it(Kaien in 160) and then brings it back up again this time being questioned by a Hollow(Ulquiorra). I thought it was interesting that it was questioned by Rukia & Ulquiorra in that they are opposite beings but both grapple with the idea of why am I here? What is my purpose? Etc. Its a very human concept bc thats what they(Rukia/Ulquiorra) were once.

Bethany Vaughn

i asked Mckay if he still likes Nnoitra better and im hoping he dont anymore.. (no disrespect to nnoitra tho..) but ulquiorra is different

Nick K

I've been looking forward to this since episode 1. There's of course other hype stuff coming, but this is definitely just one of those unforgettable moments in my anime history Also remember when you're trying to power scale Ulquiorra as number 4, that he said he hadn't shown his second resureccion form to Aizen even, so he is essentially ranked 4 based on his first release form. Where he would actually be placed by Aizen is ambiguous

JTUltima

Facts I think Ulquiorra is the strongest too

kuza

this animation is already great and this fight already has a perfect reanimation 😭

Floop

Oh you are completely right that he's the strongest Espada. Even his nr4 disappears

Bethany Vaughn

I honestly wish they would do 3-4 episode drops or upload three times a week sometimes so we would be able to see it before January with the current pacing...but I know they are busy...

Some lore for Ulquiorra In the Bleach character book, Ulquiorra was originally a Hollow who was born into a group of other Hollows that resembled him, except they were completely black while he was entirely white. Unlike the others, Ulquiorra felt completely isolated. He couldn't relate to them, and they couldn't understand him so he left. Ulquiorra was essentially an outsider from the beginning of his existence. He struggled to understand emotions, relationships, and the concept of having a heart. During his travels, he discovered a strange white tree like structure. Ulquiorra entered the tree which causes him to transform into the humanoid appearance you recognize. His entire character revolves around the idea of nihilism, the belief that life lacks inherent meaning. That's why his interactions with Orihime are so important. She challenges his understanding of what a heart actually is.

LuvStarburst

I'm just glad they came back, same thing with black clover and i believe it was 5 year wait for that one. Now I'm hoping for hunter x hunter to come back as well.

Bethany Vaughn

man...i NEED hunter x hunter continuation.. it sucks Yoshihiro Togashi has health issues though :(

Calvin

Fun fact, number 4 in Japanese is considered unlucky or a bad omen because it can be pronounced as 'shi', which is a homophone for death.

Jeff

I love that you guys call out so much more than the animation, fights and how it's all laid out being so good, but how the writing is also there. This was animated so long ago, but when they want to, they can make it happen for its time. Sometimes things now a days, flashy AF, are flashy and amazing, don't get me wrong, but they can lack the polish of that deeper meaning and feelings that it gives along side the exciting fight.

Thank you so much for doing this binge 💜💜💜 I hope this fight gave you hope for the show again after all the fillers and stretched scenes

mike thomas

Majority of espada lose their number in resurrection lol

Kragen

Just as Naruto taught us in the beginning not to give up and that effort always pays, just as luffy teaches us a concept of freedom and protection, ichigo/Bleach is always questioning who we are and why we do things for that very reason ichigo's only goal is to have a quiet life with his loved ones

Shlatto

They are not ready for TYBW

kuza

the noise it made when ichigo grabbed ulquiorras lightning spear was so nice

Wario Guyota

Half of bleach storytelling is in the powers, names, designs. Which is hard to depict in animation format. But I think you guys are definitely things ngl

The heart is in the connections you form. Btw lol the anime for some reason doesn’t animate a chapter on ulquiora if you guys wanna read it.

Interesting that the pattern on his shoes is a cross in the manga. First time seeing it but it makes sense. Surprised they didn't keep it in the anime

Volt

Carter said Ichigo was the one with the most heart and that caused Ulquiorra issues but I'd say that the one with the most heart as described in Bleach (connection and understanding etc) is Orihime and her involvement in this fight makes it even better even if she doesn't fight Ulquiorra physically (funnily enough she's the first person to land a clean hit on him). Also when he says his heart was in his palm after not even making hand to hand contact with Orihime his palm had already faded away.

2026-10-12 01:00 Since everyone is (rightfully) glazing Ulquiorra, I'm gonna spend some time talking about Orihime, since she is the reason his whole arc happended in the first place. No spoilers, but this is going to be a pretty long one. First of all, we need to understand where her name comes from. I've talked about this in Steins;Gate 0 before, so some of you might remember it, but her name comes from the Japanese Tanabata legend. Orihime, the personification of the star Vega, fell in love with Hikoboshi, the personification of Altair. They became so absorbed in their love that they neglected their duties, angering the Sky King, who separated them on opposite sides of the Milky Way. Moved by their sadness, he eventually allowed them to meet once a year: on the seventh day of the seventh month, a flock of magpies builds a bridge across the sky so they can reunite, but if it rains that day, the magpies can't form the bridge, and the lovers have to wait another year to see each other. Orihime's powers take the form of fairies, but when they fly around, they actually look like birds. We know that, in Bleach, powers are a manifestation of what one's soul desires. So if the magpies in the legend serve to connect the two lovers, Orihime's powers could be seen as a manifestation of her desire to connect with others. You could say this is all headcanon, but what if we look at Orihime's poem? “If I were the rain, that joins the sky and earth that otherwise never touch, could I join two hearts as well?” In my opinion, it's through Ulquiorra that this poem truly comes to fruition. Connecting the sky and the earth is something that should be impossible, just like connecting with someone who doesn't even believe that the heart exists. And yet, through her actions and kindness, Orihime manages to do just that. It's also interesting to notice that, in the legend, rain prevents the two lovers from meeting, whereas in her poem Orihime herself is the rain. In Bleach, rain is associated with pain and sorrow. So, in my opinion, Kubo is telling us something about Orihime here: she isn't going to let even the rain stop her. If connecting with others means enduring pain and sorrow, then she's willing to take it all upon herself (iykyk).
2026-10-09 07:54 Since everyone is (rightfully) glazing Ulquiorra, I'm gonna spend some time talking about Orihime, since she is the reason his whole arc happened in the first place. There were more censure than that in the anime. White (hollow ichigo) didn't throw a boulder but Ulquiorra's arm he previously cut.

2026-10-10 09:00 That scene where he was standing in the air after he cut his arm was also censored. Also, White seemed to have a personal beef with Ulquiorra as he did the same moves to him as Ulq did to Ichigo and Ishida(the side had smash, the pillar hit, cutting the arm). Like assessing dominance... I can do the same thing but to a stronger beeing. Also original bleach was censored because there was an airing slot at 7 pm in Japan where it needs to be family friendly and human mutilation is not allowed. Good thing TYBW was aired at midnight (wink wink)

You guys should watch the version of this fight on the Hell movie

Aluri Anirudh

ulquiorra's end was so tragic, the moment he got out of his emptiness and started to understand emotions, he slowly withered away like dust it's insane actually, the writing is so poetic by kubo

bebe

you know, i have been here may be slightly before haikyu, i like mckay more and more as i keep seeing him. just saying.

AndrGvR

Also Kubo stated in one of his interviews that he was a bit disappointed in the animation of the fight as he envisioned it to be more dynamically. That is one, one of the movie has as the opening scene the re-animation of some part of this fight...closer to how he imagined it to be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWsuS59bc0s

Daniella

It’s so effing peak 🥹😭

Wiktor Kicki

Pierrot, worst studio in history

QUARTZ QUANTUM

I don't know if you guys caught It, but Kubo used Ulquiorra's rain imagery when he went into Resureccion to show the building up despair and Ichigo's trauma of his mother's death. He uses rain a lot to convey this message even in the poems.

Zess

Similar scene Jeff, but definitely not in scale in terms of just raw power lol HxH doesnt scale as high as Bleach power scaling wise.

Benio

Holy early PEAK. Thank you guys for the binge

DJ Pavan

The peak is yet to come 🙂

Oscar Medina

I find funny that they are okay with showing Ulquiorra loosing an arm, but not Ishida.

Oscar Medina

The first Quincy cross he carried was an actual cross so it makes sense.

Benny

Yessir

Sammy

Well, the Hollow did warn Ichigo (in the horse/king-speech episode) that he better no dies before controlling his power 😉😈 Loved the analysis at the end 👍 Carter is right, the show doesn't spoon-feed you, you gotta think for yourself 🧠 Points for noticing that the mask keeps changing 👍 As always, everything has a meaning 🙌

Gui Brawl

Currently in classes, can't wait to get to home and watch it!!😁😁😁

Gui Brawl

I really like that ulquiorra uses sins, something ugly, a flaw to prove the existence of the heart. Normally they depict the heart as something pure and beautiful. It's cool to see a different interpretation

Gui Brawl

Simbolically ulquiorra died because he became the opposite of what he represents, understanding the "heart" Physically he got destroyed by hollow ichigo.

tami

you guys HAVE to check out the start of the bleach movie hell verse, the opening sequence is ulquiorra vs ichigo reanimated and its so saucy. it's only like 1-2 minutes as well but the animation is so insane. defs in the next batch or upcoming, just the 1-2 minute beginning!!

stako

Main MC actually dies, not once, but twice. And by the same person 😭

Tea_Lover

All of your questions will eventually be answered by the anime. Just remember and don’t forget these details. Man bleach really is so amazing on rewatch and we’re not even at the peak.

Jonas Teigen

Oh man, I love Bleach so much. Kubo has by far my favorite writing style out of the Big Three. His subtle writing has so much depth, and he doesn't put everything on a silver platter. I love and respect that so much. His foreshadowing and the way he builds up characters like Ulquiorra from the very beginning is incredible. And yes, it was insane on a rewatch. My favorite moments aren't even the fight or the power-up. It's the very end and the whole idea of the "heart." There is so much that can be said about that little moment alone. Also, combined with the OST, it gives me goosebumps every single time.

Tea_Lover

I can’t believe I got to see all of it growing up at the same time. It was amazing but at the same time I definitely didn’t appreciate it much as I do on the rewatch as im older. A lot of these deeper more artistic and poetic stuff kinda just flies over your head as a kid.

Rare_pvk

I appreciate the long discussion, it is so fun to hear your theories. There are still some good fights to come but also a lot of slop.

jrnoodles

Thanks Geks! I really like Ulquiorra, RIP :(

Gui Brawl

Since the main focus will be on ulquiorra and ichigo ill talk a bit about ORIHIME INOUE!! I thought i liked her but seeing her journey again made me realize how much i truly did. Theres a lot of people who dislile her. They either watched the anime and got a tainted version of her character or don't like her bacause she doesnt fight and is a women. I found the second one to be very stupid. Orihime is top 3 most important characters im Hueco Mundo, just because she doesn't fight physically does not mean shes worse that those who fight. Renji fought alot and got less attention and development than orihime. Also rukia is a fighter, and has currently 2 battles in the arc, does that mean shes better that orihime? Because she fought? In Soul Society Rukia is a prisoner and does not fight and she's a great character, same with orihime. A damsel in distress as people call it, does not mean that you are just someone waiting to be rescued and have no thoughts or initiative. Both of them do a lot in their respective arcs whilst being held hostage. I'm not saying you have to like orihime, everyone has their preferences and tastes. Just don't be someone who decises that a character is good or bad by their gender and by how many fights they're involved. Sorry for the rant, feel free to share your thoughts!

Robin

sometimes it bewilders me that uryu, ichigo and orihime were all just 15 years old. seeing your friend just die in front of you and him turning into a full hollow like the ones you have been figthing with are traumatizing. wow...

stako

Notice how the number 4 on Ulquirra's chest disappeared after Resurrección: Segunda Etapa.

tami

yes pleaseeee it's so insane

지원

onepiece and bleach is peak rn

Izaya

Is Ulquiorra trying to save Orihime?" Bro yall forgot that Orihime is probably hte most valuable person for Aizen here. Of coruse Ulquiorra is protecting her. Its his whole job. If she diesAizen is gonna fire him

kuza

u clearly havnt watched the show 😭

Jenny D

Great batch of episodes! So much emotion going on. Can't believe we are getting closer to TYBW!

Dexter Gaba

Monster vs a human, duh.

Seb

yooo we finally here

Sharandeep981

It's actually from 70 chapters before this fight!

Jubin Ko

ulquiorra's name is a loose interpretation of "el que llora", meaning "the one who cries", which is why he has the streaks under his eyes resembling tears streaming down his face

Alexander

Wtf why am I just seeing yall posted this peak a day early ???

Raama.mh

Yoo Ulquiorra is derived from “El Que Llora” which translates to “he who cries” the more Yk 🤓🤷🏿‍♂️

Daniel Walker

I wanna say the long discussion at the end was really enjoyable to watch. Hearing yalls theories and what yall think was really interesting. These type of moments in Bleach are deserving of it and worth every nothing burger or filler we possibly saw prior. Also, my message might be long, but it's worth a read if you're interested in becoming aware of some stuff you possibly missed. In Bleach, a lot of things come down to existence and existential topics. Ulquiorra is just one of the best examples this franchise has to offer. You can tell that Kubo, the author, poured his heart and soul (pun intended) into this specific character's existence. The idea of a hollow without a heart, a creature of nihilism, the embodiment of despair being intrigued by a human woman all while having these talks about hearts and souls, trying to break her inside, mentally - is something worth talking about in school during literature class. During his fight with Ichigo we see him constantly question Ichigo, we see Ulquiorra monologuing about Ichigo's actions, leveling up twice just to borderline show off, show how vast the gap between him and Ichigo is. He put a hole thru Ichigo only when Orihime was there to witness it. He was subconsciously doing and saying what humans would possibly do in a competitive nature, slowly becoming one at the end when he realises what a "Heart" is. Although physically he was fighting Ichigo, mentally his fight was against Orihime. No matter how much he tried to force his beliefs on her, no matter how many times he talked down on her, her friends or belittled humans, no matter how many times he tried to manipulate, control and torture her with words ... she never faltered even once. That's also why Aizen "stopped being interested in her", because he saw that his way of turning her into a puppet thru Ulquiorra's interactions won't change her resolve. Aizen knew that if Orihime was ever gonna be useful to him, she had to do it willingly, out of her own volition. Her unwavering kindness is best portrayed thruout her interactions with the Arrancar, who treated her like sht. To be more specific while interacting with Menoly and Loly. They thought of her as a monster and Menoly even became scared of her, which makes sense if you consider Orihime revived her like it was nothing. Meanwhile Orihime is a normal being with a rough past and deep trauma who overcame her darkness, in other words... a human. It makes only sense that the counter to a demon like Ulquiorra is an angel. As a final word, I wanna mention that the anime does NOT do Orihime justice. Lots of important stuff about her has never been animated, her personality has been butchered to being a hopeless damsel in distress and the amount of "kurosaki-kuns" is halved in the manga. For comparison, in the manga Ichigo says her name more than she says his.

Tahj Gonzalez

Hopefully they see this comment but next bleach reaction you guys should react to the English dub of the demon ichigo’s voice….absolutely terrifying and haunting

shinigamiO.O

Thanks for the link! I wish I could buy the databook, but at least I finally got to read this short story.

shinigamiO.O

There’s a reason this fight was played on loop on the big screen at that year’s Jump Festa! It was the BIGGEST fight of the year, even though Marineford and the Pain Invasion happened in the same year.

Joshua Lederman

I hate dub but plz go listen to the Ichigo scream in dub. It’s insane

Daniel

i don't get the reference but i recently tried 5 guys for the first time and i don't get the hype at all

Mitch

Wow this is really cool

AzorAhai

Man these episodes were so peak. TYBW is gonna give yall a heart attack lmao.

Dre

As someone who speaks a bit of Spanish and has rewatched bleach at least 3 times, I just found out recently that Ulquiorras name is “the one who cries” someone else prob said this in the comments already but that blew my mind😭

Dre

It’s so obvious too but my brain never put it together

Syllas

Just because Ulquiorra never told Aizen about the second form, doesn't mean he didn't know about it.. its Aizen after all, he knew where they rank and whoever says Ulquiorra is the strongest espada is just wrong. Ulquiorra said himself that his greatest strength is regeneration, not fighting power.

Syllas

Also, Bleach does a pretty bad job of showing how strong the captains actually are compared to Ichigo. Right now he isn't stronger than most of the captains. Only in the hollow form.

Uncle Tsukishima

"I can't believe all these guys in the comments knew this was coming" - Cannon 😭

Uncle Tsukishima

Man what a fucking treat. FOUR episodes of peak Bleach, AND another hour long episode of Re: Zero for tonight. We eating good today boys. 🙏

Shiki

this fight hits diff on edibles GOAT reaction btw

Shiki

literally Sagisu when composing the OST for Bleach

Alex

Not the best place for this I'm sure, but I'm not putting my number in to chat on their discord. Have the Geks actually confirmed if they plan on watching Black Clover? I believe I've heard them mention it in passing but not sure. I've been a patreon member basically since the original AOT run but sadly there's nothing in their current schedule that I have any interest in. Would love to see them pick up Black Clover with the new season finally starting to air.

Aus

I have to commend yall. Ive never enjoyed a Hollow Ichigo reaction this much. Like I was watching the episode for the first time. And Mckay, when you described ulquiorra helping them and ichigo becoming the villain, i feel like that is what was actually already happening lmao

Stefan

They did say they might watch it at some point and looked away from black clover OP, on that ranking video they watched.

Hotdog

I agree with you that Aizen probably knew but I'm not sure I agree that his ranking factors that in. That ranking really only measures raw power rather than abilities. For example, do you think the top ranked espada would beat #2 in a 1v1 fight? Plus Aizen is the type of person that would let Ulquiorra think he doesn't know and rank him at 4 just so he can watch how he behaves with his "secret" that the other espada don't know about. I feel like Aizen would just watch in amusement because it ultimately doesn't matter to him what the espada ranks are. Also, matchups are what make fights anyway. Espada are ranked based on raw power rather than abilities.

Destiny

Love the Orihime name lore drop, she is truly a beautiful character 🥹

Alexander

Great discussion at the end guys this is some peak Bleach you witnessed. Ulquiorra is my favorite Espada you'll get a lil more info on time soon

Alexander

Hype and AURA definitely the biggest aspect of Bleach but the story telling and character moments cook so hard when it's time

Mitch

Idk bout that, I think ichigo bankai beat damn near every captain besides Yama. Powerscaling in bleach is very weird tho and we can’t go into it more without spoilers. Also Aizen is too goated and smart I think he absolutely knew about it.

Mitch

He’s clearly the strongest tho

Alexander

1000 year bloodwar completely uncensored

Soulrebel0902

Remember what white said don’t let me take over the horse and become king. Ulquiorra is also a play in words in Spanish. El que llora.

Hotdog

We LOVE that.

ThirtyStik

"murcielago? it's a lamborghini?" -cannon LMAOOO

ThirtyStik

i MISS when big fights in anime were longer than 13 minutes and only 1 episode like todays fights are :/

Zandafs

No more Lanterns?

SSana

There are some really good analysis out there about Ulquiorra, and also about Ulquiorra vs Orihime philosophy/ way of life. Even if its not canon, the depth to their interactions, how they were foils for each other, and just how angsty the whole thing was made this my favourite ship of the Big Three back in the day hahaha. Wonder if there are any other past shippers in this crowd??

did they all forget ichigo has a hollow inside him? why are yall asking what is that or is that someone else lol its been known for a long time that he has a hollow.....

Nic

no hate love the reactions lol just when i watched it i felt like i knew it was his hollow not letting him die like with byakuya

Jui K

Godh, i cried, he could have lived... should have lived 😭

Apparently my favorite characters like to disintegrate 🫩

absolutely need a Dub vs Sub for Bleach when you finish OG Bleach

The absolute silence from the crew when the episode ended 👌

AzorAhai

This is the best anime reaction in the history of Studio Gek from what I’ve seen hah…outside of the AOT ones lol

trappa

deadass delayed watchin this cuz i knew it was my goats time to go😞

GruntRule

Rewatching this fight for the umpteenth time made me put together a nice little detail: The inner monologue Ichigo has with himself right before going Full Hollow is very similar to what Nnoitra said to himself just before using Resurrection.

GruntRule

Also, notice the heartbeat sound effect plays as Ichigo senses his friends suffer, even though Ulquiorra blew his physical heart to bits; the "Heart" in Bleach is defined as the bonds people share.

GruntRule

Not sure if this has been commented but Ulquiorra's last name is Shifar, so when you say his full name quickly it sounds like Lucifer

Ashlee

This is one of my top favorite arcs and fights in Bleach mostly because of the arancars and Ulquiorra, like both his character design and development are SO interesting to me 🙌🏾🔥 i wish the anime was able to add in his backstory as well like they did for Grimmjow but you guys should def look into the manga panels on your own time when you can ^^ And yes Bleach is honestly so good when it comes to the scale of the fights, but when they tap into the philosophical and heavy stuff it will literally leave you speechless like how yall were after Ulquiorra's final line 👏🏾 awesome reaction guys!! As much as i prefer the dubbed for Bleach ill def be tapping into your other Bleach reactions ♡

Ante

Just as good as the first time I watched it.

BleachWhenPlzzz

Ulquiorra from his nature has this innate wish to understand what it means to have a bond or connection with someone, which is shown by him asking questions all the time, and even through inner monologues. He is the most loyal to Aizen because he has a logical reason for that. But then he sees humans having bonds and their willingness to sacrifice themselves for eachother, or go beyond any logical reason to try protect someone even though it means to take on an opponent you could never imagine defeating. He couldn’t understand why until the final moment when Orihime was willing to ‘give her her heart’ to Ulquiorra by reaching out with the palm of her hand to him… He finally understands this one aspect of human nature, that’s why he says “just when I started to find you humans interesting…” Truly well written.

JevCor

Yup, if you just look at bleach at a completely surface level and don't take time to think you would obviously think it has weak writing, it doesn't beat you over the head constantly with its themes like some other series' in this genre... I wont mention names.

Khadija A

I think a lot of people underestimate how much Ichigo cares about orihime

Kelz

You really think Aizen of all people truly didn’t know?
