Part 3 had more straight forward stands since that’s the part that introduced them. Part 4 will have way more creative concepts for the stands since really started letting loose and got more imaginative.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. This episode is actually called ‘Koichi Hirose (Echoes)’ Not Reverb Ep Commentary “This is the episode where Koichi really shines on his own. The storyboard and directing were in the hands of Mr. Yasufumi Soejima, who portrays Tamami Kobayashi as a very interesting antagonist. Echoes enters the scene for the first time and with it comes the difficulty of showing a Stand that fights with sounds. Tamami’s own power, The Lock, doesn’t directly kill its targets and isn’t made for face-to-face combat. I think in that regard, this particular battle nicely represents Part 4 and what will be following. The fights until episode 5 were some kind of introduction and here we are in the development phase. In regard to the animation, we decided to shrink Tamami’s proportions from the get-go. He's much smaller, but this also reflects his personality. The second half of the episode happens at the Hirose’s. The house is quite small compared to other residences in Morioh and we had this information in mind when directing the battle in this rather cramped space. We also remember from this episode that Koichi’s sister is also very beautiful (laughs).” - Naokatsu Tsuda

The stand (Echoes) was in an egg because Koichi had the latent potential for a fighting spirit that needed to be awakened. At the time of getting shot by Keicho, Koichi was still too meek for it manifest.

My theory for why Koichi's stand started in an egg is that he was originally gonna die from the stand arrow. You only survive the arrow and get a stand if you have the latent potential, otherwise it just kills you like normal. But Josuke cheated the process by healing Koichi with crazy diamond, leading him to survive but with an under-developed stand.

to be honest, i was looking at the episodes and the first half of this season is kinda like what yall were talking abt. a bit repetitive, but its more meaningful bc it actually introduces characters and adds to the story. BUTTT 2nd half pops off like crazy and i think is one of my favs of the whole show

Agreed. I think in the end they will like part 4 but they don’t strike me as part 4 kinda guys. Part 5 I think will be better for them and it’s also my favorite (unless sbr can take it over. I’ve read the manga and liked it but I want movement and music to make it pop)

it works though, we're following the story of a small town after all. the 'mundanity" is what makes this part works. plus this foluma is way more elevated to what part 3 tried to achieve since 1. it makes sense and 2. the fights are and characters and their conclusions are way more interesting than part 3

As much I adore p3, it's true that p4 always just leaves us with something, it's constantly moving things. So yeah I hope the Geks will like it but I'm not too worried, this episode had some good reactions. Spoilers We literally have the yukako arc in 2 episodes that give us character development for Koichi, the tonio episode which is an interesting non-fighting episode with crazy animation, the red hot chilli peppers episodes with a more important villain and the introduction of a character we all know too well, then an episode that serves to deepen a specific relationship,.... And that's just how the first half continues to move until the introduction of you-know-who.

I agree, Part 5 definitely. I think Part 4 could end up tied with Part 3, or maybe a little higher. In general, I think they’ll prefer Parts 5, 6 and 7. 5 and 7 especially have a strong chance of becoming their all-time favorite. They hit a lot of what they love about JoJo and what they’re looking forward to. Part 2 might still end up being their favorite though, Joseph is just an unforgettable and unique character. SPOILERS Also the fact everything they’ve said they want to see is in Part 5: more OP stands, longer fights, less of that “monster of the week” vibe, and a constant sense of intensity overall.

agreed jean!! it’s been years since i’ve been away from morioh but it felt so tangible and dear to me and it’s all attributed to this formula and how great it serves at the end. if people want to compare the 2 you can ask yourself what did all the fights in part 3 serve in comparison to part 4 fights. we’re part 4 fights random in the first half or did they all come together and play part in the end? that’s something i cant say the same when it comes to part 3, they were random, they served nothing beyond their purpose during their specific episode

A few things: Tamami in the manga was originally as tall and buff as Josuke and Okuyasu in the manga. However, the moment he loses and gives up to Koichi he just shrinks to Koichi's height for the rest of the Part. The crazy thing is that he's not the only person to do this in this Part. Koichi and his stand are 100% a reference to Dragonball (Z). Koichi's hair sticks up when he gets serious, looking quite similar to Gohan's super saiyan. His stands appearance looks extremely similar to Imperfect Cell. Musical references in this episode: Koichi's dog is name Police after the band of the same name. Koichi's stand doesn't get name dropped but it's better you know now. His stand Echoes is named after the song "Echoes" by Pink Floyd. Sharing the same band Josuke gets his stand name from. Tamami's stand The Lock is a reference to the song "The Rock" by the band The Who
