Yammy being Espada 0 has to be Kubo's only L. No one in the Bleach community likes it. Edit: I forgot Kubo had Ls in TYBW but the anime fixed those problems.

Yammy being the espada nr 0 makes total sense. I can't say a lot cause its a big spoiler. All i'll say is that grimmjow said he was espada number 6, ulquiorra said he was espada number 4, but yammy always said the tenth espada, not the espada with the number 10. So there were clues that yammy was different. I'll speak more in spoilers .... .... ..... Y The espadas represent an aspect of death, yammy represents rage. But also, they represent a part of Aizen, the smaller the number the most they represent. Rage being at 10, something that doesn't associate with the apparent aizen, and then turning into 0, the most pure emotion that aizen feels and keeps it hidden. As we'll see in the final fight, aizen letting his rage out in his fight with ichigo, with gin for brief moment. And most importantly with urahara, and his hatred for the soul king, the sistem that its built through him and urahara letting the status quo continue

I was just watching a clip of Hajime no Ippo, and I just can't but help to mention it to you guys. It's genuinely one of the best anime in my opinion. Regarding last drop, the geks said something interesting. Before starting they heard that bleach was just fights Why ??? Bleach has a lot of fights and it understands hype like very few shows understand. A fight is a medium in which the author can tell a story. Eveyone does this, but with bleach is slightly different One of kubo's main way to tell its story is through a fight, hence why there are so many. Sometimes hes too subtle, being more obvious in certain moments isnt bad if you just see the fight without paying attention to what the characters are saying, what the characters feel and are feeling without speaking a single word, you'll see no story just explosion anf fight. Fights are storytelling!!!!! Its those little interactions between characters that enrich the story

Wanted to say some things: The Yammy reveal is probably one of the most contraversial scenes in Bleach even till this day, and while it's pretty valid to say it feels off in how it's introduced and its place in the plot (I would say his reveal is supposed to feel nonsensical on purpose), his character isn't ruined and like most Bleach characters most of his intrigue is in the subtext. Unfortunately most of the things I want to discuss about him requires spoilers. Secondly is Ulquiorra's place in the Espada. Which is also a heated debate in community till this day. I believe you can make arguments for both sides like: 1) As you guys said Ulquiorra only stated that Aizen hadn't seen him in this form, not that he isn't aware of it at all. And some other things requiring spoilers. 2) As for the other side one of the best arguments I've heard is that It isn't out of character for Aizen to make his military force not have a rigid structure. This is the same person who betrayed and critiqued the Seiretei, a bureaucratic organization with little space for objection, and also declared to that organization that he will transcend all and stand on the heavens. He let's his underlings compete and object each other, as we saw when Grimmjow went to Karakura town without his orders and told Tosen It was unnecessary to punish him and even when Tosen disobeyed Aizen to punish Grimmjow, he let them both off the hook. Also has handed out to all the Espada a device that seals other Espadas without any restraint on It's usage, almost like he's inviting them to rebel and use It for their own gain. Lastly about Harribel and Toshiro. I find It interesting Kubo matched these two up. On one side you have Toshiro, someone who's described as a child in appearance and by other people. A character who's story arc for the most part up to this point is about maturity. He get's mocked by Aizen for his rashness and his outburst in their encounter, he hides his immaturity with a cold and stoic facade, but is ultimately still just a child whos growing. And on the other side you have Harribel (which I will talk about without spoilers through symbolism) who's very feminine in design obviously, but also has her hollow hole in her lower abdomen or uterus. And as you guys have seen (with Nnoitora and Ulquiorra) the hollow hole on an Arrancar ironically represents their most defining trait. For Harribel this would represent motherhood and femininity since it's in the womb. And In most cultures mother figures are represented with nurturing and sacrifice, tying back in with her aspect of death. Find it interesting how Kubo sets up these fights as being a battle of idealogy, philosophy or symbolism and in this case in the most simplified way It would be a fight between immaturity and maturity. Also some Buddhist symbolism about Toshiro. His bankai represents in Buddhism what is called Naraka, which is basically just hell. In Toshiro's case it would be the "Eight Cold Hells" part of it. Where sinners are punished for their cold-heartedness. Also the red lotus flowers behind him mirror the "Crimson lotus" imagery, where sinners skin in the "Daiguren" layer freeze so bad that it peels back with blood like a crimson flower.

TO BE FAIR Bleach probably has some of the long term least memorable characters in anime, partially just because some of these names are so incredibly Japanese lol. Out of the big 3 I watched bleach the most recently, but I remember the least about it out of the 3. Ulquiorra is def one of the characters you should remember tho he is def like one of THE faces of bleach, it’s like claiming to watch DBZ and not knowing Cell

I glaze Kubo for his writing a lot but Yammy being 0 is not it for me either. I already thought he was really underwhelming as a character, (top 3 has less screentime and yet they're wayy better lol) and was happy to be done with him but of course he has to stick around plus the poor pacing of the arc too. I feel like Kubo needed another impossibly strong espada for other characters to fight so there's no way for them to join the karakura town battle but that's just my two cents it's still a good reveal :)

The decades old Bleach debate regarding who is the actual strongest espada has always revolved around Ulquiorra and Stark. To this day I don't think there's anyone that takes the "tier 0" Yammy thing seriously. Even if you do decide to lend credibility to his supposed 0 ranking it's purely from a durability or physical strength standpoint and not actual combat efficiency. Someone on Twitter/X put it best. "You can tell who the actual strongest espada are from the animation quality they get". 💀

Hirviendo translates to "boiling," while the Japanese kanji Irubiendo translates to "Burning Current" hence why Toshiro's dragon melted.
