Not seeing these fights drag out for so long actually makes me appreciate these side character moments even more. Like the Harjudin moment, I completely forgot about that one because I think I kinda zoned out watching these eps in og. Seeing a better edited version makes them more memorable in my opinion

The start of this arc was maybe the best start of an arc so far. I have no memory of how good the ending is and of course there's been good stuff mid arc but it's really One Piece's weakness these dragging fights. The fights, pacing and female character design have to be the biggest faults of One Piece. But the biggest fault of all is how little death there is. Like is this a kids show?

Bellamy’s concept as a character is so sad to me, but I feel like it says a lot about one of the show’s biggest themes: the strength that comes from having something to believe in. In this drop we find out why he joined Doflamingo in the first place. He literally says he comes from a wealthy place and got bored, so he decided to become a pirate with no plan or real intention behind it, simply because he had nothing else to do. This show makes a point through so many characters that fighting for something or someone helps in making you strong, no matter how well or ill intentioned you are. But Bellamy’s actions stem from an empty purpose, he’s literally weak by design, and he has been since the beginning. He’s so easily moved by Luffy, which is a great thing, but because he doesn’t have a strong desire for anything of his own, he’s just as easily swayed into staying on Doflamingo’s side again, even tho that’s no longer what his heart would want. And that’s why I feel like Luffy has never really wanted to fight him ever since Jaya. He realized how sad Bellamy’s mindset is: he’s someone who used to think dreams were pointless, yet he’s so lost that he can be moved by anything. It’s honestly so sad, but such great writing in my opinion

Baby 5’s character is so frikin depressing😭 there’s also a theory that her name is like that because her mom didn’t even bother to give her a real name and just numbered the babies she had. I actually like the resolution of her ending up with Sai because he didn’t want to “use her” in the first place, they’re kinda cute haha

I think these eps are good without one pace, it’s just that at this point they would feel so dragged out if you guys were watching it normally since the beginning and that 707 is actually a padding nightmare haha And you get Naotoshi shida’s greatness in 710 which was really cut short in one pace, but it’s ok. The G!!!oat Lao G!!! has finally been defeated, ofc his fucking insurance didn’t help him at all💔💔

Interesting catch. I never considered Baby 5 being Dressrosa Boa. I genuinely dont believe they touch on this later, but also remember how Doffy needed someone to die for him to give him immortality with the Op-Op fruit?

I just realised Doffy killed Baby 5's boyfriends because he saw her neediness as a convenience to keep her around. She was apart of his family but that genuine care about what she needed was never there, at least she found herself a healthy man. Although if she met Sanji instead it would've been hilarious to have her on the crew 😭

I'm a big fan of one piece and I love this anime but definitely the pacing can drag. These episodes were not as terrible. I really love the sai episode and I like that we are also seeing the side character fight even though most people don't care about the side characters. poor mckay tho he hates these episodes lol

Wow, Sai's line to Baby 5 "Have you been living in a world where nobody's ever told you that you've got it all wrong?" really hit. We get a small glimpse into Baby 5's depressing backstory and how it has shaped her world view. Then later on, she's surrounded by adults (Doflamingo family) that have used and abused her mindset to their advantage. Not even bothering to teach or support this child that clearly has some messed up thoughts. Sai is the first person to tell her how fucked up that is.

GUNGNIR! THAT'S BIG HAJRUDIN! 10000 tonnes is insane, that's 22 million pounds. For comparison, the Eiffel Tower weighs 10100 tonnes, so Hajrudin literally just punched the Eiffel Tower into the sky. Probably the greatest strength feat in the story to this point.

Lao G fight was so funny and surprisingly well animated. And Lao G did explain his power, he is a martial arts master. His style uses his own spiritual power, its similar to the actual martial arts technique called "qigong" where essentially he is conserving his energy and storing it up when he needs it, returning to his prime for a brief moment.

The GOAT Naotoshi Shida animated the final exchange between Sai and Lao G. His fluid and dynamic style is instantly recognisable. The sequence in the original anime is even better with the way Shida hypes up both characters techniques even more.

Oda just flexing his writing ability with Baby 5. What we thought all along was just a funny gag, he turns into something way deeper and disturbing, with Baby 5 having a deep childhood trauma of wanting to be genuinely useful to someone. The Donquixote family exploited this to a degree, but the extremely based Don Sai finally breaks her cycle of abuse.

I actually like the Bellamy plot development. I think one of the key lines is when he says he knows he picked the wrong guy to admire, which has an implication that he potentially looks up to Luffy instead now. Remember though that unlike you guys Bellamy has no interest in the larger plot here, his motivations revolve solely around him and where he goes from here. In my mind he is doing two things by choosing to go all out against Luffy here. First he's trying to show how much he's grown to the person that previously defeated him, because of his pride he wants Luffy to acknowledge his strength rather than feel like he's being pitied. Second I think he is displaying self destructive tendencies, because he thinks so poorly of himself right now that doesn't know what to do with himself and hopes that if he throws himself at Luffy hard enough to he can get taken out by Luffy and be removed from the fight, which Luffy has been hesitant to do. So he thinks he can sacrifice himself to help Luffy essentially.

My recollection is spotty, but if it was stated Doffy's plan was always Corazon for Op fruit pre-dad breakup than youre right. I also didnt factor in that she already had a fruit as a kid. I guess my theoretical head canon to make my take make any sense would be Baby 5 was a contender for Op fruit before Corazon came back from the Navy and before she had a fruit (never specified when she got it). Major cope and fan theory on my part, but arguably defendable given it's not specified when they found out about the Op fruit and it's capabilities (at least I dont remember if it was).
