I’m so excited for Vinland Saga!!! I defo prefer it over Death Note! Btw Briggs said that the vibe feels different (unlike Naruto and AOT) because they aren’t in Japan speaking Japanese. Even thought AOT is in a fictional world, it’s hinted that they are Europeans. You can tell by their name/last names, architecture and how they are drawn (brown and blond hair).

the funny thing about this show is that the first season was made by WIT, the studio that animated Seasons 1-3 of AOT. and it was coming out at the same time as AOT S3P2. Then the second season also switched to Mappa and is now airing at the same time as AOT S4P3.

i dont think you guys have to avoid every single anime opening. it didnt really spoil anything imo and the only reason it was recommended for AOT is because that story is specifically so twisty and turny

vinland saga is quite realistic and philosophical, that's why I think it's perfect to continue anime after AOT without rushing you!! So excited for you to see more 🙌🏼

I love Vinland Saga a lot, second season is airing right now and I like it even better than the first one. The first opening is safe to watch after episode 5, it's not like has a direct spoiler, but it does hint what the show will be about and can take away some "surprise" factor, but after episode 5 is all good, no spoilers at all. The second opening tho, that's another business, don't watch that one.

I'm so happy that this show won the poll, i think you all will really enjoy it. Carter you are in for a ride just to warn you, this show is imo more graphic than AOT for frequency of it being shown. S1 was done by Wit but S2 they switched to Mappa so you heard correctly on both parts. Btw, i apologize for my impatient comment about wanting faster uploads. I had just finished drinking and gaming with a buddy and wanted to see a new upload but shouldn't touch the keyboard during times like that. I appreciate how much work it is to do this and am sorry you guys are dealing with all this bs. Love watching all of your reactions and i cant wait...i CAN wait but am excited to see more of your reactions to this show :p Few quick things-DON'T watch the intro. IRL Vinland is what is now eastern canada but we don't know exactly where Leif Eriksson landed. Translates to either "the land of wild grapes" or "the land of wine" because of how fertile the soil was.

I personally think that watching anime openings and endings is part of the whole anime experience. They're a unique thing to animes that animators put a lot of effort in that shouldn't just be experienced once you've watched everything. They're supposed to set you in a certain mood and give a little sneak peak of what to expect. Sometimes they're nothing more than trailers. I understand that AoT ops had major spoilers (with Rumbling being the worst offender, lmfao), but the first op of Vinland Saga doesn't really spoiler the plot if they have no context, lol. It just shows all the relevant characters, that's pretty much it.

thats my whole point too. theres a reason they exist. its part of the experience. every anime ever wouldnt have openings if they ruined the story and were only watchable after you finish the show lol. i understand for AOT because its specifically a story where they were prewarned to notice every single detail and keep track of everything, but even then I didnt think it was necessary to be honest outside of maybe The Rumbling showing Erens founding titan. its not a big deal to be honest but yea, just something for them to consider

Honestly if I’m starting a new anime, I always watching the opening of ep 1. I don’t have the best memory so if it looks too risky, I just skip it for the rest of the season lol. Guess it works for me because I forget 90% of what I saw that first time lmao

It didn’t win the poll death note did but they decided on this one because the company that copyrighted the aot final season uploads also has rights to death note, also I don’t think the anime has ever mentioned Vinland being specifically eastern Canada..

Either way, I love both animes but vinland is ongoing so I'm excited to react closer to same time as them. And...as far as location? This anime is based on real events. Vinland is somewhere around the Gulf of Saint Lawrence it's thought. It's context for the anime, not from the anime.

I can't wait to see you guys react to this, this was also the first anime that I watched after AOT and tbh I think season 1 of this show is just as good or maybe even better than season 1 of AOT. Btw season 1 of Vinland Saga is animated by Wit, season 2 is animated by Mappa.

AoT is an experience. VS is an anime, albeit an exceptional one with minimal tropes. I hope you enjoy it. It is interesting, but it is very likely nothing will ever match AoT. It's ok if you don't like it, I don't like anime either anymore. Very few animes are good enough to get me onboard.

So excited to watch this series for the first time with you guys! Someone pointed out in an earlier comment that AOT is set in Europe - there's an actual city that Shiganshina was based off of. It's called Nordlingen in Germany. It feels very surreal looking at pictures of it.

I binged all of Vinland Saga in the past two days when I heard y’all were doing it next and let me just say this is only the fourth story that has ever made me cry (fmab being one as well). This series isn’t always as high octane as AoT, but the characters are all so human and the moments where you can see growth are so satisfying and touching. Really excited for this! You guys always have interesting takes and are so good at picking up on and appreciating details!

I am glad Vinland Saga won, I am so hyped and interested in watching your reactions. It is a bit slow start compared to AoT, but it gets better and better. I do not know what genre you guys enjoy, but I hope this show satisfies your interests. I must note that AoT is a shounen show - meaning it is directed towards a young male (teens) audience (I know, even though the themes are mature, it was released in a manga aimed at a 'shounen' audience). VS, on the other hand, is 'seinen', which is aimed towards an older and mature audience ('seinen' is for older males, while 'jousei' is for older females). This will be reflected in the themes and tones of this show - just an FYI!

The comparisons of this E1 to AoT's E1 are very understandable - if it helps any, it might be more fitting to think of Vinland Saga's pacing to be more like something like GoT. Obviously there's a difference in episode length between the two shows so this analogy is like if you had watched only a third of GoT's pilot episode for some reason lol
