they literally decide to upload when i’m at the gym everytime

Mia Malvik

My no.1 anime of all time. So excited !

Riya

Get ready for the mind games!

David Herrera

Finally! I'm so excited to watch this show again with you guys, let the mind games begin!

Cookie

LFG!! 🔥

metalgearbear

SO GOOD. This anime is such a fun ride. It also plays around with the morality of decisions like AoT does.

DeeHasApples

Aaaaah nice! The day it was cancelled I was so upset, mostly cuz I haven't seen Vinland Saga, but I am sooo hype!

GB3

I was gonna cancel my Patreon membership after AoT but, well I guess I have to stay now

A

I’ll check it out again through your reactions. I didn’t get past episode 1 when I tried watching it. Let’s see how this goes.

Dio

Wish they would have watched it in dub, since the dub is really good! Wonder what the reasoning is for the sub? but no problem, hope you guys enjoy :D

YourGirl

why snap the AI when u could snap me 😪😩

YourGirl

not the dragon fruit refreshers 😮‍💨

Sara SizzCake

I know I'm gonna enjoy watching yall's reactions to this!! Buckle up guys!

YourGirl

1:20 - 1:34 🤠 cannon's in a good mood today

T heFearlessAbsol

Next episode reaction is going to be awesome!!!!!

YourGirl

long live cowgirls, huh 😌🤠

Kaez

Yesssssss

Bibi

I NEED THE NEXT EP PLEASE

Christa

Looking forward to the moral debate that’s gonna be cookin

Kaylee S

So hyped almost everyone is new to the anime ‼️🙏🏽 the next episode is gonna be lit 🔥

Riya

There is only darkness when there is no light. FYI, the dub was great too! Both versions are great. If you think you’ll be fine watching in sub and catching all the info, then go for it!

Sean Carroll

Light took one episode to go on his eren yaeger villain arc and I can’t wait to see it again

Iris

I think most people would recommend the dub on this since its actually very good and you can focus on the visuals more

Bibi

I have a feeling ep 2's password will be "L" 😂 Also I would like to recommend the anime 86 (which is underrated imo) after death note/vinland saga!

Tiga

A
>>107019081

I’ll see for sure! This isn’t my kind of show/anime vibe but I’ll watch it

DeeHasApples
>>107019864

If they continue in subs, it'll be the first time I watch it in Japanese. Which is weird cuz I generally prefer subs. It's probably cuz Death Note was my first anime I watched in continuity. That and FMA are pretty much the only ones I watch in English.

Melizé

This was such a good surprise. Can't wait for next week's reaction!

esie ♡︎

I’m so shook that Jack and McKay haven’t seen it!! Wahhh i’m so excited for all of you! Also so glad you watched the subbed!! Mamoru Miyano’s (Light) voice acting is PEAK in this. He’s also Doma in Demon Slayer. 🤭

aubrey !!

WOOOOO IM SO EXCITED

Jian

YESSS! FINALLY!

aubrey !!

this whole show is definitely inner monologue BUT its still crazy monologue lol

Ziwen

please give dub a try! there isn't the "trying too hard" voices that you guys heard from the AOT dubbed

MeekikZIN

OMGGG What a surprise!!

ssj4rit

Also all those names Light had before killing the motorcycle dude aren't different people, they're different spellings of the same name (since he only heard the name spoken and didn't want to risk misspelling it)

Joie Dianzon

I am surprised that they have not seen the Netflix version (I am glad). 😂 I laughed at that yearbook comment because it makes sense if you are that kind of kid who hates everyone. BTW, if they really grow to like this then I have no doubt that they will like Monster and Death Parade. All these animes explore the human psyche and mostly about mind games.

luffy

comments saying dub is better are straight up lying lmao

Nonos

Please can you guys watch at least some of the episodes in dub? This one of the few anime like dragon ball z where the dub is iconic and how a lot of people first watched it. But both are good regardless

Fátima Quintero
>>107019871

OMG I love that you mention 86 because it is SO good! The main reason I watch it is because I read that the soundtrack was made by Hiroyuki Sawano, the same as AOT... it only took me two seconds to search the first episode and watch it after I read that

Iris

@luffy Dub is better

Krii

very excited for this

ssj4rit
>>107023634

@McKay Tbh just react to whichever one you like more, not sure how far you’ve gotten but it would probably be odd to switch to dub after you’re in so deep.

John Ferreira

Brooooooos, this is the anime to watch in Dub

mariah

The music in this anime is some of the best

mariah
>>107023634

They are both good like they could be considered almost equal in my eyes

LovetheDove

Now I'm team sub for almost all the animes I watch, and I only have a few I would watch in Dub but trust me when I say the Dub version is way better lol the VAs for this and FMA are really good.

Fátima Quintero

😭😭😭😭✨✨✨✨ nací por mi madre pero vivo por studio gek ✨✨✨✨😭😭😭😭

Xio’♡

Omg so excited for this, I was bummed when this was put on hold. Also fun fact the director of Attack on Titan also directed Death Note

Xio’♡

I will say , the dub for this anime is so good and alot of people prefer it. You might want to give the next episode a shot in dub before you get too deep into the series. Just in case you end up finding you actually prefer the dub to this show.

kiiturii

lets gooo, 3rd time I'll be watching but still so hyped for this

Audreyldo

Ngl i’m not a fan of death note but i’ll watch with you as always 🤌🏼

Justin Callang

Always loved how the Gregorian chants set the mood for the show

Bernie Luke Nang'ayo

Just something interesting... which you guys may or may not have planned. you guys have 37 episodes of Death note and 37 episodes of Vinland Saga left (to the end of season 2)

Bernie Luke Nang'ayo

Also let me just say it early on READ THE MID CARDS!!!! or you'll think there's plot holes. theres like 20% of the story in the Midcards!! some are long so just pause for a couple seconds

Xeons

just finished watching! so glad Carter was so dialed in, this show is such a treat for them all. Jackson already seems to be on team Light lol we love to see it! Cannon was so sus on Light lol

Xeons
>>107019081

This is how I felt about Vinland Saga, but watching their reactions made me a fan of it lol

Xeons

This is my first time watching the sub version of this show, have always seen the Dub bc it's so goated and nostalgic for me. Definitely one of the shows where the Dub is actually good and not too extra.

Audreyldo
>>107027865

I mean it’s good but i have no attachment with this idk, i also don’t like light but i like the second character 👀 however the music are great!

Bernie Luke Nang'ayo

McKay loves anti-heros and villains! Already know my dude was team Thanos lol.

CT
>>107023513

Yo they would love Monster, that anime is amazing

Studze Kisiel

I think this will be my first time watching it with sub and not dub

shmaimeee

so i don't necessarily think the dub is 'better' but ive watched both and i think for the type of show it is the dub definitely makes information easier to catch - especially if youre reacting and maybe not be able to catch all the subs AND i do feel like the dub VAs fit really well and add i think certain emotions/vibes just hit better in the dub for this one . im obv still gonna watch whichever one u do tho lmao

rosa_gris

Wow I’m realising how odd the Sub ver. sounds to me, because I’m so used to the English voices. My first experience with Death Note was Sub, but I’ve seen it way more in Dub. Mainly because the Dub was more accessible (back when you could watch anime episodes in three parts on YouTube; when copyright was more lax 😥). I can’t believe I’m saying this (because Miyano Mamoru supremacy), but I think I prefer the Dub slightly more. Especially for a certain character that has to be introduced.

rosa_gris

“Shinigami”, quite literally, translates to “God of Death”. So they’re the Japanese version of a death god, or Grim Reaper.

anna

i'm not against dub, but not being a native english-speaker i always naturally gravitated towards sub versions since i'm pretty used to it, but i just find it wild how so many are disappointed about them not choosing dub. I mean both are equally good it all depends on what you got used to, yes it's weird watching the other version but damn, aren't you here for their reactions? It's not you watching the show, you're ultimately here to see what they think, even though rewatching the thing with them is inevitable. Edit: i would like to add that what takes a lot from the general quality of the dub is the butchered Japanese when it comes to names. It's a show set in Japan made by a Japanese production team, the cultural background is also Japanese, for multiple reasons the original language is the most fitting, like in the case of any show. They are generally more carefully curated, work together with the author often, hence the whole product is closer to the source material. I find that it's just a very anglo-centric view of the entire thing. I get that the guys are American and the English might make it easier to pick up on stuff, but the "dub being better" is not the objective truth, but the view of the western fandom, who obviously prefer the language they speak. Another aspect is that people generally like the dub because of it's understandability while not taking anything away from the oriignal, but I think the Japanese version just does a better job conveying feeling.

James

I never watched Death Note, but I’ll jump on the band wagon and binge this anime sometime this week.

Dio
>>107023634

The dub is better, sorry if that hurts your feelings

Dio
>>107034205

I think people want them to get the most enjoyment out of the show. When the dub is as good as it is, there is no reason not to watch it.

jul ☽

Brig.. Ik exactly where you stopped because same HAHAHAHA

Stefan
>>107020049

As a European the butchered pronunciation of Japanese names, and English speaking characters in Japan really doesn’t do it for me. It’s the same when I watch a US show or movie, and they visit Germany where everybody somehow talks English. It kills my immersion. I think US cinema is partly responsible for people in English speaking countries not picking up on the absurdity of it. Generally me and people in my surroundings watch stuff in their native language. If possible I use the audio of where the show takes place if its dubbed well. FYI Germany is also very guilty of dubbing literally everything. Even news interviews…

Ziwen

I think the dub recommenders would also agree for you guys to try the dubbed early so that you don't develop that voice association bias and can actually get a feel for how the characters sound in their respective languages

luffy
>>107023634

Ziwen i did try it out and it's one of the better dubs, but nothing could beat the original.

luffy
>>107023634

Dio it didn't hurt my feelings but i guess my comment hurt yours :(

luffy
>>107025428

light in the sub is one of the best voice actors in anime period but whatever

luffy
>>107034205

there is no reason not to watch the sub either but here yall go

milky

I've never watched this show subbed so its kind of exciting its like watching it for the first time again but I'm realizing for some reason they kind of leave out some info in the sub or maybe its the opposite and they just add key info in the dub to help non japanese speakers out. Like I remember them explaining things like how "Shinigami" means "God of Death" in the dubbed version and how for his second kill in the parking lot, there's so many names written because its the same name he's attempted to rewrite multiple times to make sure he got the spelling correct.

Ziwen
>>107034205

like Dio said, its not that we're disappointed in them not choosing dub, we're just excited from the idea that they might enjoy the dub and are asking them to try it out, but it's not like we'd oppose it if they end up not liking the dub

A
>>107019081

I’ll watch dn fully on my own and see if I like it or not

Dannie

Well slap my butt and call me Carol. Idk how I missed this post. But I’m here for it now.

Andrea Hernandez

YEEEESSSS YEEEESSSSSS (insert the meme of SpongeBob)

Dio
>>107034205

Hey Luffy, I can think of 1 good reason that you pretend doesn't exist. They speak ENGLISH and not Japanese

anna
>>107034205

It's subjective how you get the most enjoyment out of a show. I never watch anything in my first language, no matter how good the dub is (i don't even use sub with my language but that's another question). Just because their first language is English it doesn't mean they can't follow what's happening unless they hear it. Maybe it's just me, i can't generalize and say the guys must be like this too, but personally i'm weirded out by any kind of dub of any anime, it just doesn't feel natural – even with Death Note where I know people like tend to like it. So my point if that it was really their decision and I get that people were curious, but ultimately it comes down to personal preference that might not align with what the audience wants.

luffy
>>107034205

dio when he finds out subtitles are a thing and people can read 😱

Dio
>>107034205

Never said they couldn't follow along in sub. My only point is that the dub is regarded by most people to be just as good if not better than the sub. If that's the case, people want them to at least try the dub, they'll probably enjoy it more.

Dio
>>107034205

Luffy why would you not want to watch a show in your own language if it is better than the original? just curious

anna
>>107034205

that's a fair point and it is worth to be checked out, but i saw comments earlier about them being disappointed the guys didn't pick the dub and they are dropping this reacting series and that's just idiotic

Dio
>>107034205

Luffy the type of guy to watch Breaking Bad in Japanese and read subtitles while he is an English speaker 😂

anna
>>107034205

i can't speak for luffy, i'm assumming you're a native english speaker, but it's a common occurence people not liking to consume stuff in their own language if they speak English well enough. So many things get lost in translation and it ends up sounding cringy, which I am personally very sensitive about since I understand the nuances of my own language very well, I know when something sounds off despite being dramatically correct. With English i don't notice it since my brain does not operate in it – especially when the dub is in a language i don't understand at all so I don't know whether the translation is correct or not.

Dio
>>107034205

I get what you are saying anna and for a lot of anime the dub is not great. but for some, like Death Note, the dub is regarded by a lot of people to be more enjoyable to watch for English speakers than the sub. I also get what you're saying about translation and sounding cringey, but that isn't the case for this - proven by its wide support of dub.

Toff

im so hyped for this

Dio
>>107021145

Luffy stop replying on every dub post, go back to your basement

rosa_gris
>>107034205

Unless the comments were deleted before I read them, I didn’t see anyone saying they’re dropping the reaction series because they’re watching it in Sub. I see people being hyped for it, but highly recommending the Dub version.

anna
>>107020049

stefan thank you!! you put it perfectly – most movies and shows are best in the language they were made in.

anna
>>107023513

i've been recommending Monster for forever, but now i'm starting to worry whether the slower pace would bother them. I watched it with my brother and I literally had to beg him not to drop it (he got hooked after a while too, but damn) – but I think it's suspenseful atmosphere might encourage them to keep watching since it's indeed a very high-quality show. Might be better than AOT.

esie ♡︎
>>107034205

Agree with you anna. Personally, I prefer to watch things in their original language. If it was Chinese, I’ll watch it in Chinese. Korean? I watch in Korean. I prefer to watch it how it was originally made.

esie ♡︎

There is no better version over the other (sub/dub). Everyone’s opinions on the matter are simply that, an opinion. The debate on sub/dub is getting old. If they prefer to watch it subbed, then let them enjoy it the way they want to. I’m here for the boys, nothing else. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Zack

When Light was watching the bikers from inside the store he wasn't writing all of their names. He was writing the same guy's name with different spellings since he didn't know which was right.

Dio
>>107034205

I think when you are talking about TV shows that is definitely the case esie. but for anime I think exceptions can be made.

luffy
>>107034205

the problem is you're saying it's better than the original like it's an objective fact when the opposite is true. shows are much more enjoyable when they're being watched the way they were intended to be watched and cannon and carter clearly share my opinion so lets just leave it at that

luffy
>>107034205

and im not even a weeb LMAOOO i watch everything in its intended language from french movies to kdramas. ur a snob who's too lazy to give other languages a shot

Dio
>>107034205

I knew you'd run with me saying the dub was better and not actually answer my question lol. Yes I agree, it is objective on whether or not the dub is actually better. I originally said most English speakers people think that it's just as good if not better. You are also wrong again, I watch most anime in sub and every foreign TV show in another language I've seen in its own language ex. Squid Games, Dark, Parasite, etc.

Studze Kisiel

Did brig ever say what was his favourite show or like top 3?

bondbond53
>>107020049

Mamoru Miyano as Light is the most iconic role of this iconic voice actor and you wanna say dub is better? lmao what

bondbond53

Y'all Mamoru Miyano as Light is anime history level of iconic what are you guys on about dub

Carrie

sooo excited for the journey ya'll are about to go on! dn was my first anime & I've been wanting to do a rewatch

aubrey !!
>>107071545

literally, just because its okay compared to other dubs does not mean its automatically better??

The RZA

English dubbing will never be able to catch the nuances that the japanese va's convey. Might be easier to catch a few more things on screen if ur a slow reader but sub is always better.....except for speeches by Erwin

James
>>107034205

I grew up in a Japanese household and started watching anime when they didn’t even have dubs and I agree that watching anime in subs is a different experience culturally speaking since Japanese people have different ways of interacting with each other, different style of humor, different kind of creativity, etc. My brain notices a totally different viewing experience when watching anime in dub which seems weird to me. I am a life long Trekkie, and it’s like if I watched Star Trek with Japanese voice actors, it would seem very awkward for me. Having said that though, everyone has their own preferences and whether people watch anime in sub or dubs is not a big deal for me.

e riv

I'm excited that the geks are finally watching Death Note. Most of us stop in the same episode, just like Brigs. I'm rewatching it again since I'm writing a paper on Light Yagami. And now I can see their reactions to the show. I love how Mckay is already a fan of Light. I was surprised to see Cannon almost smiling 2 mins into the anime. And Carter and Jackson already like the start of the series.

luffy
>>107034205

your question is literally you putting words in my mouth btw don't try dictating the convo 😂

7thdilemma
>>107086689

Okay, personally I will just about always prefer the sub, especially for current shows, and I do generally agree with what you're saying with regard to conveying the original intent of the creator in the original language and the ability of the Japanese VAs to do that best. However, there are some shows that have such a good dub that in my opinion you are simply depriving yourself of a more full and rewarding first experience by defaulting to the sub. Two of the greatest instances of this for me, would be Steins;Gate and Death Note. Also, while I will respect your opinion, I do find it baffling to not prefer the sub any time Erwin is on screen given the subtly and intricacy of his character. But you do you.

7thdilemma
>>107062220

Everyone can have an opinion either way, that's fine. But that doesn't mean no one should ever try to open that discussion if there's good reason. And while not always valid, numbers can work as a good indicator for a variety of reasons.

BrianTheWoeful

This show is a shot of adrenaline from beginning to end. Absolutely beautiful, bonkers melodrama. Same director as Attack on Titan too. I can't wait

BrianTheWoeful

The dub is fine but I honestly prefer the sub of this way more, especially since they're all actually japanese characters but whatever yall choose I'm here

ssj4rit
>>107071545

Dudes Chrollo from HxH and Okabe from Steins Gate, people need to give him some respect lol

Devzy 793

My favourite anime (maybe AOT beats it by a bit)! It's been years since I've watched it so it'll be great to see it again with you guys.

Dio
>>107034205

Brian and luffy just admit you both only watch sub because ur weebs and let's move on

Christa

CAN'T WAIT FOR EP 2!!! Please watch the dub too.

anna
>>107034205

dio why can't you accept that people MIGHT POSSIBLY prefer sub over dub for the reason they like watching stuff in their original language? Why do you have to push your own agenda and tell people "oh, you watch sub cuz you're a weeb". Maybe, just maybe not everyone speaks English as their first language and developed the skill to enjoy any content without having to be dubbed for them because.

Jag_227

Loved the reaction! Glad you guys are enjoying it so far!

Xeons

(translaters note: keikaku means plan)

Dio
>>107034205

anna you seem confused. I watch and prefer most anime in sub. all I suggested was for Studio Gek to try the dub for DN and that I thought it was better. luffy deeply disagreed with me and does not want them to try the dub for some reason, so I called him a weeb, sorry. let's just end the convo. some people, including myself, wanted them to give the dub a shot because it's really good (my OPINION), but the show will be good regardless.

MaraReaper

Adding my vote in to try dub!

kiiturii
>>107043872

ik a lot of people stopped there, but they really missed out on some absolute banger episodes

Lukash

Oh I see another dub/sub battle. Ill join! My suggestion is to do it same as AoT, watch it in sub first and make fun of dub later.

Cris

You guys should watch it in dub!

Hechy

about the sub/dub, id just watch it in sub since i massively prefer it always but im biased

James
>>107279853

I watched parts of the first episode of Death Note in dub, and the va for Light is almost speaking like Eren's va in dub which these guys found laughable. I'll continue watching DN with dubs to find out what the hype is all about.

AA

Y'all should watch Parasyte 😩 one of my favorites

Taha Faiq

bros are putting out so much content i cant keep up 😭

Taha Faiq

also pleeeease dub for this show. the dub is far better than sub in a lot of ways

Taha Faiq
>>107027381

i think the dub for this show is way more dramatic and intense, plus since the show is mostly dialogue i think it makes sense to watch it in dub

Taha Faiq
>>107019871

yeah i usually check out animes sawano composed but my god do not watch aldnoah zero.. 86 they would probably like but imo it falls short of animes like AOT, FMAB, Death Note

Jag_227

"Is this the yearbook?" lmaooo

Bibi

Patiently waiting for ep 2 reaction lol hope it's released today 😔

Edwin

Do Dub for this one

giulia_ackerman

the eng subs definitely don’t do it justice

aubrey !!
>>107377791

no they obviously dont like dub. although the quality is slightly better for deathnote doesnt mean its better than sub. they just dont like the way dub sounds and it'll just ruin the experience

Dio
>>107377791

They haven't even heard the dub so you have no idea aubrey

Mr. Simpson

I laughed so hard as soon as he said "He lowkey has a god complex" knowing the literal next line that he says xD

Zena

Omg guys I left and now I’m back that your doing death note!!! OVER THE MOON THANK YOU

Zena

guys I can’t explain how excited I am for you guys to watch this, it’s honestly the best anime (though I attack on Titan has pretty much just become number one for me) but death note was my favourite for YEARS

Brittney Wright

Lol I don't know if any one actually like Light but you do respect his genius. Also, I'm so excited that only Brig has seen this! This show is like a core memory so pumped! Take notes because it gets crazy! 🤯

fatou

all hail lightttt !!

Dani G

Good choice. This show is amazing!

Dillon Lewis

we all now what happened when brig said he stopped with 10 eps left
