I just watched the discussion at the end and now I have a headache 😭😭finish the season and if you're still lost I'll help lmao. Edit: listen to Jack

Melizé

Yess let's go!!

James

You guys should listen to Jack; he has it all figure out.

Audreyldo

don't worry it's not easy to follow sometimes and remember who's what, he's danish but he's a pretender to the throne of england as Jack said 😊

Izaya

Thorkell doesn't know Askeladd so Thorfinn is the only person he has as reference for Askeladd's group. Other then Prince Canute and Ragnar.

Izaya

Canute is the son of Sweyn, King of Denmark, so he is, supposedly, going to inherit whatever property Sweyn has control over. He is the Prince of Denmark. Denmark is currently invading England to seize control over it. England's current King fled to another country whenever the invasions intensified a few years ago, so England is currently without a king. The follow up would be, naturally, for King Sweyn become King of England whenever Denmark eventually wins the war. With that, King Sweyn would become King of both England and Denmark. Wales is a different country completely unrelated to England. Wales is inhabited by descendent os Romans and Celts and is not included in the war. What Gratianus is seeking right now is to form a non-aggression treaty with Canute (supposedly future King of Denmark, and naturally, England) because they are a small nation and are afraid that they are gonna be invaded by Denmark after they conquer England. Gratianus (Welsh) offered help to Askeladd (Dane) with the condition that he would make Canute (Prince of Denmark and next in line) sign the treaty of non-aggression. I am pretty sure that's the current scenario. I know you already watched the next episode and its probably more clear but this is the context

Just wanna point out the J in Jomsvikings is pronounced with a Y

I'm really interested in their reaction to season 2. Can't guess it

Damn I feel Jack's frustration. He was right on everything except "there isn't a king of England" part. The king fled to France and his name is Æthelred II. He is fighting back against king Sweyn who is the king of Denmark. Canute is his son, prince of Denmark. And they are conquering England so that Canute can possibly become the king there (or his brother). Thorkell is more of a mercenary so he doesn't exactly take direct orders, he's just chasing Askeladd down cuz he has the prince and he wants a fight. Askeladd also is a mercenary and now he's keeping Canute hostage so he can sell him to the highest bidder. Either king of England or Denmark

Starkfern

Also the whole roman thing I don't understand what you meant. The Roman's are the ancestors of the welsh/britannia. They left the region over 500 years before this story. After them came the Anglo-Saxon who are the current English in this show. So the Roman's are irrelevant now. It's between Anglo Saxons and Norsemen for now

alex anderson

Thorkell literally just wants to fight the king and have good fights with other strong warriors. Thats literally his only reasoning for following thorfinn and askeladd. Thats why he gave canute so easily the last time he seen them. He doesnt care about canute just king sweyn.

Shiro

This is a very good explanation of the events in the show. A small addition would be that Prince Canute is also contending with his brother Prince Harald for succeeding Sweyn, as Sweyn himself mentioned in episode 9. Regardless, Canute is an important person of interest who may wield influence in the future, hence Askeladd and Gratianus are counting on helping him now to win some future favours.

Where are the episodes :(

Riya

Trust in Jackpedia!

luffy

jack usually doesn't know what hes talking about so they were quick to brush him off lol

luffy

you gotta get used to their inconsistent sched at this point lol

will saldivia

Not really the welsh align themselves with the old Romans hence the Latin name(gratianus) and he said they’re descendants of Britannia (meaning they’re more Roman than Saxon). Basically it’s just showing the cultural and ethnic differences of the kingdoms

Jack isn't always right, but he's easily the one with the most factual knowledge

Jag_227

"I already saw the title. The reincarnation of Thors the Troll." LMAO Brig

Jag_227

"The Ear"😂Reminds me of Miche from AoT. One of the few anime tropes I actually find hilarious

Jag_227

I have not seen the show beyond this point. The priests seem like important characters bringing some light to a very dark, masculine time period. True progressives 💕 Aww, Canute is so shy. He is probably very sweet and smart.

Jag_227

Askleadd wanting Thors to be his leader seems like SUCH a big moment in this series

Jag_227

I love this show so far, but it does feel a bit "cryptic" (as Carter said) a lot of the time

Jag_227

Let the negativity flow, boys! That's what makes watching the "anime haters" so different and entertaining!. AoT is so genius that you can't reasonably hate, but as for the others, let the criticism flow, haha 💕I am also confused about this show's politics. It does not explain it well.

Jag_227

I can't wait for the Death Note, videos!

YourGuy

but they did get new wifi. he said once that it takes long to upload on this new website. I think thats why and he was also editing for tomorrows YT vid so ya

The Danes, led by King Sweyn, were successfully invading England. However, they were stopped at London. At the battle of London, we find out that Thorkell (originally with the Danes) had switched sides to helping the English because he's a mad lad and wanted a harder fight. King Sweyn decided to move the main Danish army / force to somewhere else and just sit Thorkell out with a siege. He left one of his sons, Prince Canute, in charge of the London siege. Thorkell found out Canute was the guy left in charge and proceeded to stomp Canute's forces and capture Canute. Thorkell (the lovable mad lad) intended to use Canute as an excuse for getting into a fight with King Sweyn. Thorfinn and Askeladd then swipe Canute from Thorkell and flee to Wales while playing the dopest soundtrack since How To Train Your Dragon. The leader guy in Wales knew that the Danes (led by King Sweyn) were about to successfully invade England and become England's new rulers. England had always given the Welsh (Wales' people) a hard time with invasions and other tomfoolery. So Mr. Dripped Out Wales Leader (Gratinoso or something like that) was like "yo we'll help Canute escape as long as Canute becomes the next leader of England and agrees to leave us the frick alone." At this point in the story the mysterious part is how Askeladd has a connection to Wales. He's been with the Danes this whole time (I think he mentioned 40 years - the man's getting old!). But honestly you don't necessarily need to follow all of that to enjoy the ride - the heart of this series has always been in the individual characters' motivations and interactions, rather than the lore and overarching history (though that's all cool too) :)
