Hello folks! As a little experiment this week I'm dropping a video two days early on Patreon, just as a way of saying thanks for your ongoing support of both the channel and our Discord community. I could do the same on YouTube and set it as "members only" for 2 days, but I really don't like the way that YouTube's member features create a two-tiered system on the same platform. I want to give supporters bonuses like early content, but I don't want to explicitly advertise that on YouTube as a way to try to convert casual watchers into paid members. So that's why I'm only doing that here (for now, this may change in future if it makes more of you happy!)Let me know if this feels like a decent bonus for you - as you know I try not to create any paywalled exclusive content - but this feels like a nice compromise, especially in situations where I've been able to get a video finished ahead of the YouTube schedule.

I appreciated the early access to this video.

I have so many IGC videos to watch in my backlog but I watched this immediately 😅 I like the idea of game/genre necromancy. In the video at some point I was more invested in seeing MDA applied (I like this framework a lot), which made me think the title could be more interesting as "How new game genres are done" or something like that. But it made sense in the end to explain how to use it to simplify/rework another genre. Also, with all the ChrisZ advice going around about not mixing or creating new genres maybe a good hook for the video could be "How indies can create new genres". I didn't know about Cinemaware games, but you made me remember Centurio (strategy/tactics and management?), Carmen Sandiego (quiz/geography?? but it felt like a huge world) and Project Nomads (shooter/strategy/tower defense where you are the thing moving)

I was currently trying RTS with minimal mental load for the player that are not tower defense (Bad North, Death Crown, Clash Royal, Tooths and Tails, ...)

Indie Game Clinic

That's a good spread! I'm really surprised more indies haven't used CR's design setup, it's very intuitive and probably the best example of how to do a real time card game IMO. Bad North is a personal favourite when it comes to minimalist UI.

I recently saw a yt dev made a clash royal roguelike on Steam and mobile. I forgot GrimGrimoire in the list

Banger video, hope the YouTube stars align for it!

I was sad that my friends didn’t like Tooth and Tail :( I really like how everything interacts together. And the visuals (not the point of this conversation lol) OMG!

I feel special for getting the video 2 days in advance. Which is enough for me :3 Edit: also it’s cool to have a separate comment section here. Youtoube should let you choose to make the video visible to everyone or not when you do a members thing.

I appreciate this reward and think it’s a good approach.

Thanks for the early video, it is appreciated. It's nice to hear you talk about what I have been also been thinking about; around travel in some games and what a waste of time / how boring it is.
