I’ll answer what I can without spoiling things.

First, I’m not why what you believe the point of using it on a mundane creaturewould be. Secondly, all it allows him to do is give out Commands. Basically, he can Command others to do something they are capable of. He might have been able to figure out a way to use it on an unintelligent creature and have it report back some way, but it’d be to a very limited extent as it’d only be able to report back what it’s capable of naturally processing, and only in a way it’s capable of naturally conveying. Moreover, it’d cost him chroma the entire time, and there are limitations with regards to range.

Now, there are many other uses to the skill he hasn’t found yet. Problem is that in his current circumstances, most of them aren’t readily obvious, and the obvious ones aren’t of much use (it scales off badly against target’s at higher soulsigns, and it’s also very poor against chromal beasts). I’m pretty glad you’re coming up uses for it, though, and I in the following arcs, we’ll be exploring realmskills as a whole in far greater depth.

I’ll say this, though. The current (Redsoul) form of Absolute Will Command, called Absolute Mind Command, is similar to an underpowered (more limited in terms of raw power, that is who it can target and the upkeep) but more flexible (can be used repeatedly, can be used on himself) version of Lelouch’s ability in Code Geass, if you’re familiar with it.
