Still putting some touches on this one, but i have some questions:

1) If you’ve never played Battleship, do you understand this?

2) Should there be more red “hits” on the rat’s side to show that he is losing more?

3) Am i missing out on a better title? I feel like there should be a good pun here, but i can’t find it.

Thanks for any and all feedback. -NG

2. For sure

BATtleship? Also, yes, most needs more ships sunk on their board.

Eva Cherney

Maybe showing the "grid" of the game and more red on the rats side too. I chuckled tho.

BONUS political question: Is it morally ok to normalize kiddie war machine propaganda when our government spends billions upon billions each year on ineffective weapon systems? I’m rooting for the United States, but the money that went toward the new (and doomed) ICBM or the engine-faulty F-35 combat aircraft could have spared us from arguing about various domestic issues. If war is the name of the game though, maybe put your money into cyber warfare, virus research, and diplomacy?

It took me a while to understand that it was echolocation, maybe have sound bouncing off the ship too?

Rothiseph

Wondered initially if the bat was blind per popular belief. Clearly not the case, but could still work as a title - "Blind Luck". 😎

Like a rat from a sinking battleship... I thought this was Hilarious. Ran it past my wife who started giggling immediately. We are, however, board game nerds, so your mileage may vary with us. Adding one more sunken rat-ship might make it less ambiguous upon closer inspection, I suppose. I think the echolocation might be the thing to focus on to make the plot more obvious, though?

Jeremy Hornik

Just to echo what others have been saying: another ship, and more echo bounces, maybe off the next ship to be gotten. But frankly, I’m flattered you asked. And as for your second question, it’s hard to separate people from their notions about success and violence running hand in hand.

The number of hits is perfect. If the game were further along, the mouse would have quit by now. Bat is playing a perfect game so far (4 hits for 4 turns). From the mouse's perspective, the first ship could be luck, the second ship (which just got hit) is when he knows something's up.

Grant Birchmeier

I think you can count on people knowing Battleship. If they don't, that's their culture gap, not your problem.

James T

I agree on more red hits, and the Bat-tleship name above.

Unfair Batvantage?

Chris Frochaux

Hard to improve the title. Stupid question for the battleship experts: why should the rat’s white pins turn to red when sunk? I didn’t need the color coding to understand the bat was cheating… the rat’s expression is an unmistakable clue. Loved battleship as a kid, and never associated it with military propaganda. With the exception of the Falklands skirmish, battleships are rarely sunk nowadays - in contrast with WWII. Military propaganda is routinely being fed to kids via violent video games, rather more realistic and bloody.

Just "Batleships" with one t?

Serpent's Eden RPG

Could just use Bat-tleship or the like. I can't promise everyone will get the comic either way, but I think it was great.

John Kestner

Zag with the pun. Rattleship.

DB

I don't consider the game to be war propaganda but the original box art is famously gender stereotypical. You could add a couple raccoons doing dishes in the background as a nod to it? PS: Great comic. This Gurewitch guy cranks out bangers so often that i feel super lazy!

Kendall Day

I think more red and maybe a bit more white too would justify the frustration.

Ian Rodenhouse

What about “BATNAV” like a take on SATNAV or some other military detection technology?

Mike Skalnik

Maybe add a red marker on a ship in the last panel to show that E-5 was a hit?

Bob Dillette

Title pun: Swindler Utilizes Nature; Annoys Rat. (SONAR)

Edward Steele

Maybe move the sonar effect to one of the ships?

Tim Hofmann

I read "miss" first, threw off the dialogue order.

Pablo Ruiz Valls

More red, "Bat tell ship", it's great concept.

Gaurav

My favourite joke in this vein is the one from "The Dark Knight": Bruce Wayne: Sonar. Just like a... Lucius Fox: [interrupting before he can say "bat"] Like a *submarine*, Mr. Wayne. Like a submarine. So maybe something punny with the submarine/sonar/battleship angle?

More hits to make it clearer. Maybe even spelling it out in a phrase or shape
