Damn. You actually managed to make Salem sympathetic, I didn’t expect that. With the lore revealed I’m even more curious about that hidden pocket dimension with the city of Yokai? Faunus? Something else? Not sure but I’m very interested

Sounds like something future Jauncifer did

Alice

See this is the level of writing I wish RWBY had, that was a great chapter thank you

Having Salem's first appearance basically just being all of the needed exposition to make the next part make sense, but is a little awkward. I understand why its needed, but would ave been better split up between Salem reminiscing and her interacting with parasites that took up residence in her home. Her seathing at one that mocked her for having children, for example. I am looking forward to Jauncifer pulling an Odysseus returning home.

Edits to the part that -> to the point was ready to begin anew -> wasn't having trying once -> tried

PublicLee Speaking

That's fair, I might rework this a little, I'm just trying to avoid 'As You Know' dialogue.

Seraphi

Ooh, drama.

GAMB42

... damn but you actually managed to make Salem's backstory actually really good. Freaking hell but Vale is about to be hit and Cinder has absolutely no idea. Hell, I suppose we are hitting another world soon because the MC is just not ready and needs a less problematic training ground before setting the "Nemesi" right about who is top dog. Also Weiss and Cinder are very much screwed if the MC does not manage to get them out.

Dragonhulk

Oh my. This calls back to the Grim Tunnel arc. I mean if you hadn't done so much worldbuilding already, enough for an entire series of novels, I'd be more upset at the exposition dump from Salem. Still, it brings several mysteries that have been simmering in the background to light. So now we know what will make Juncifer go all out, and because this was supposed to be a multiverse travel story we will finally get to that six years and X amount of months down the line. Because what you just described will not let Juncifer and his loved ones say in this world without being eaten. So I can see a jump after this upcoming attack. Though I really hope Roman and Neapolitan get eaten. Though knowing how MHA played out I wouldn't be too surprised if Weis and Yang die. Maybe even Pyrrha just to show Juncifer that fate does have it out for him.

El Lando

Nah, Weiss and Pyrrha have anti-bad ending plot armor. Ruby likely has it as well. Basically, the author is willing to kill anybody that won't make the story too tragic.

It was established by one of the Steves, the one from Howling at the Moon. That Steve had both Glory Girl and Lazerdream Were-Wolfed in his harem.

And the edging continues!

1. You are technically correct, given how I hate Bad Ends. 2. Is that such a bad thing?

I'm guessing you are working off canon timelines for the tournament but one fight a day is crazy. Most fights are a few minutes, 10 at most really. So everybody shows up to the arena watches for a few minutes and calls it a day? The stuff with Salem is pretty depressing to be honest. I mean the original story was pretty grim, this version is just morbid. This isnt really meant as a complaint, just a reaction. Maybe I'm mixing stories, but I thought Oz thought she killed their kids but here she says he did it and seems to imply that his memories are messed with in multiple ways. Is this just self delusion? I know its meant to be unreliable narrator on one or both sides, but to be honest i hate that trope. 99% of the time I see jt used, its an excuse for the author to lie to the reader so they can setup a 'clever' reveal but are too lazy to actually be clever so they just lie to the reader via unreliable narrator. I don't really think that is what you are doing here but thats why I'm not a big fan of it. This definitely worked to make Salem sympathetic though. Good chapter overall.

Dragonhulk

Well after MHA I wasn't too sure. Lots of people were beginning to love mushroom girl. I was even hoping that she'd ask out Menta. So the main 8 survive, that's nice to know.

So, like a lot of the stupidity from RWBY, I'm pulling from Canon, because there's the canon Yang vs. Mercury fight... And then enough time for several different plot points, seeming taking several days, before the Pyrrha vs. Penny fight. And as for the unreliable narrator, that, too, is me fitting in Canon because Oz suddenly snaps, tried to steal the kids, they start to fight, and we hard cut to the end of the fight, the house destroyed, and, by implication, their kids dead. Then suddenly out of nowhere Oz is blaming Salem for every Grimm attack ever with no explanation. On my end, the last Oz chapter had Oz's thoughts being slightly fucked with with the messed sections in the color of the God of Light, though that was last year, I think.

Everyone has already made all the insightful comments I think this chapter can supprt so I’ll just add my two cents that Salem weirdly gave me wine mom vibes. Anyone else feeling that. Edit: To be clear that’s not a criticism just the vibe I picked up, like I was weirdly expecting the next line to mention her sloshing wine in glass in her hand every other line.
