[Lucifer] Ch: 21 [A Kiss to Remember] (Patreon)

[Morning]
Alexandra stretched both arms above her head while a sleepy smile crossed her face.
For a few peaceful seconds, she felt warm, rested, and strangely comfortable beneath the soft sheets. The mattress seemed to hold her body like a cloud.
Then the ringing inside her head began.
Her smile disappeared as pain pressed against both sides of her skull. Every drink from the previous night seemed to return at once, lining up inside her brain before kicking her from every direction.
'Oh god! Why did I drink that much?'
Alexandra groaned and pressed both palms against her forehead. Her mouth felt dry, her stomach felt unsettled.
Memories returned in broken pieces.
She remembered sitting next to Lucifer at the bar. She admitted that she wanted to kiss him, then she actually kissed him before climbing into his arms as if all her sensible thoughts had vanished. She also remembered the elevator. His hands beneath her thighs. Her legs around his waist. His lips against hers while she pressed him against the wall.
Then... She couldn't remember anything.
Alexandra sat upright so quickly that the room tilted around her. "Damn!" She grabbed her head and waited for the spinning to slow before looking down at herself.
The blanket covered her body from the waist down.
Her heart began beating faster as she lifted the sheet and looked underneath. She was still wearing the same blue dress from last night. Her underwear seemed untouched, and the only missing pieces were her shoes.
'Did we not have sex last night? I can’t remember anything after the elevator. Ah! Don't tell me I passed out.'
She tried to search through the empty section of her memory, but the effort only made her headache worse. She closed her eyes and rubbed her temples while panic and embarrassment fought for control of her thoughts.
Before she could decide which feeling should win...
Lucifer entered the living area carrying a silver tray filled with breakfast. He wore a deep red robe tied loosely around his waist, while his dark hair looked perfectly arranged despite the early hour. His classic smile appeared the moment he noticed her sitting upright beneath the sheets.
“Good morning,” he said warmly.
Alexandra stared at him, then looked at his robe before quickly checking herself again.
He carried the tray toward the bed and placed it carefully across her lap. Eggs, toast, sliced fruit, pancakes, coffee, a large glass of water, and two painkillers had been arranged with far more care than Alexandra expected from him.
She looked down at the breakfast before lifting her eyes toward him again. Lucifer stood beside the bed with one hand tucked into the pocket of his robe, looking entirely too pleased by her confusion.
Alexandra picked up the water and swallowed several mouthfuls before reaching for the painkillers. After that, she lowered the glass and gathered enough courage to ask the question circling inside her aching head.
“Did we do it last night?"
Lucifer’s eyebrows rose as a slow smile spread across his face.
“Do what, precisely?” he asked. “You’ll have to be more specific, darling. We drank, flirted, solved a murder, watched a detective stubbornly deny the existence of celestial powers, and caused several men near the bar to experience severe jealousy.”
Alexandra narrowed her eyes at him, though the movement made her headache pulse again. She pressed two fingers against her temple and gave him an irritated look.
“You know exactly what I’m asking.”
Lucifer allowed the silence to stretch while his smile grew increasingly unbearable.
Alexandra’s cheeks warmed as she glanced down at the dress still covering her body. “Did we have sex?”
Lucifer placed one hand against his chest as though deeply wounded by her lack of memory.
“Alexandra, I assure you that spending the night with me would leave a considerably stronger impression than an empty space in your memory.”
Her face turned even warmer.
“That doesn’t answer the question.”
“It answers it rather beautifully,” Lucifer replied as he moved around the bed and sat near her feet. “No, we didn’t have sex. You mounted me at the bar, kissed me through half the nightclub, climbed into my arms, and nearly devoured my tongue inside the elevator. Then I placed you on the bed, and you immediately began snoring into one of my pillows.”
Alexandra closed her eyes as the missing memory became painfully obvious.
'I passed out.'
She slowly lowered her face into both hands, wishing the luxurious mattress would open beneath her and swallow her completely.
“Oh, God.”
Lucifer glanced toward the ceiling with faint amusement. “He had very little involvement in your performance, as far as I’m aware.”
Alexandra groaned behind her palms. “Please stop talking.”
“I’m merely providing an accurate account of events,” Lucifer said as he leaned closer. “You were exceptionally passionate until sleep defeated you without warning.”
She lowered her hands and glared at him through her embarrassment. “Did I really start snoring?”
Lucifer nodded with grave seriousness. “Within seconds.”
Alexandra looked toward the pillow resting beside her and noticed faint marks from her makeup across the white fabric.
Her eyes widened.
“I’m never coming back here.”
“An obvious lie,” Lucifer replied. “You haven’t even tasted the pancakes.”
Despite herself, Alexandra laughed softly, though the movement made her head hurt again. She reached for the coffee and took a careful sip while Lucifer watched her with open satisfaction.
A few quiet seconds passed before another thought surfaced.
She looked down at herself again. Her dress remained exactly where it had been when they entered the elevator. Her underwear had not been disturbed, and aside from the missing shoes, nothing suggested Lucifer had touched her after she lost consciousness.
Alexandra lifted her gaze toward him.
“You had the chance to have your way with me, and you didn’t?”
Lucifer’s amusement faded slightly.
He remained relaxed beside her, though something firmer appeared behind his eyes. “You were asleep, darling. That isn’t a chance. It’s an unconscious woman lying in my bed.”
Alexandra studied his face as the sincerity beneath his answer became clear.
Lucifer continued while reaching for a strawberry from the tray. “The Devil still has standards, and consent becomes rather difficult to obtain when someone is snoring loudly enough to frighten the damned.”
She tried to laugh while saying, “I don’t snore that loudly.”
“You nearly shook the windows.”
“You’re exaggerating.”
“Only slightly,” Lucifer admitted before eating the strawberry.
Alexandra looked at the coffee in her hands and felt relief, embarrassment, and warmth. She had spent years around men who saw opportunity as permission. Her experiences with fame taught her to be careful at parties, in hotel rooms, during photo shoots, and around people who think attraction gives them rights. She still faces situations where others try to take advantage of her under the pretext of work.
Lucifer had carried her into his bedroom while she was throwing herself at him, then stopped the moment she could no longer choose what happened.
That was not what she had expected from a man who openly flirts with everyone around him.
“Thank you,” she said quietly.
Lucifer tilted his head. “For resisting your unconscious charms?”
“For taking care of me.”
His smile returned, softer than before. “I removed your shoes, covered you with a blanket, and spent the rest of the night drinking on the balcony while contemplating the cruelty of the universe.”
Alexandra raised an eyebrow. “The cruelty of the universe?”
“A beautiful woman finally admits she wants me, attacks me with her mouth, and falls asleep before anything truly entertaining happens,” Lucifer explained. “Even I can recognize divine mockery when it occurs.”
Alexandra laughed again and shook her head. “You’re unbelievable.”
“I hear that frequently."
...
[1 hour later]
The bathroom door opened, and Alexandra stepped back into the living area while running her fingers through her hair.
She had cleaned away the remains of last night’s makeup, washed her face, and tried to make herself look presentable with the few items she carried inside her purse.
Lucifer stood near the bar, already dressed in a charcoal suit. He was pouring himself a glass of whiskey despite the early hour, though Alexandra had stopped questioning his drinking habits sometime between the pancakes and his third story about an eighteenth-century royal scandal.
She picked up her purse from beside the couch and glanced toward the bedroom, where her shoes had been placed neatly beside the bed.
“I should probably go.”
Lucifer turned toward her while lifting the glass to his lips. “Already? I thought you might remain long enough to recover from the tragic disappointment of falling asleep before experiencing the full penthouse tour.”
Alexandra slipped one shoe onto her foot and gave him an embarrassed smile. “I think I’ve humiliated myself enough for one morning.”
“You’ve barely scratched the surface,” Lucifer replied as he placed the glass on the counter. “With proper dedication, you could achieve significantly greater humiliation before lunch.”
She laughed quietly while slipping on the second shoe. The headache had begun fading after breakfast, and the embarrassment no longer felt strong enough to make her search for the nearest emergency exit. Still, memories of jumping into Lucifer’s arms in front of half the nightclub continued appearing without warning.
'At least I didn’t throw up.'
That would have been much harder to recover from.
Lucifer walked toward her and adjusted one of his cuffs. “Do you have a car downstairs, or would you like me to drop you off?”
“I brought my car,” Alexandra replied while checking that her phone and keys were still inside her purse.
Both of them got into the elevator...
Alexandra glanced toward Lucifer, finding him already watching her with the same quiet amusement he seemed to carry everywhere.
“Still expecting me to throw myself at you again?” she asked.
His smile widened. “Expecting might be too confident. Hoping feels more accurate.”
Alexandra held his gaze for another second, then stepped closer.
Lucifer’s smile remained in place, though his eyes sharpened with interest when she closed the small distance between them. He expected another playful comment or perhaps a final joke about the previous night.
Instead, Alexandra placed one hand lightly against his chest and rose onto the tips of her shoes.
Her lips touched his.
The kiss was nothing like the desperate hunger from the previous night... It was a slow kiss.
Her lips moved gently against his as her fingers rested over the smooth fabric of his suit. Lucifer remained still for a brief moment, caught off guard by how different it felt. Then one of his hands settled naturally against her waist while he returned the kiss with the same careful pace.
Alexandra tasted faintly of mint mouthwash she had found inside his bathroom. The kiss lasted only a few seconds, though it felt longer inside the quiet elevator.
When she pulled away, a soft smile rested across her face.
Lucifer looked at her with mild surprise.
“Well,” he said, his hand still resting against her waist. “That was considerably more controlled than last night.”
Alexandra laughed quietly and stepped back, though she didn’t move completely out of his reach. “I wanted to make sure I remembered this one.”
The answer silenced him for half a second.
'Bloody hell. She caught me off guard.'
Lucifer recovered quickly and gave her a pleased smile. “An excellent decision. Memories involving me should always be preserved with great care.”
Alexandra shook her head as she looked toward the elevator doors. “There’s the ego again.”
“It never left,” Lucifer replied. “You were simply distracted by the kissing.”
The elevator continued descending through the building. Alexandra leaned lightly against the mirrored wall and glanced toward Lucifer’s reflection.
He looked exactly as confident as usual, with one hand resting inside his trouser pocket while the other adjusted the cuff of his shirt. Still, she had caught the smallest hint of surprise after kissing him.
That discovery pleased her more than she wanted to admit.
'So he can be caught off guard.'
The elevator slowed before the doors opened. The nightclub was quiet at this hour, with only a few employees moving between the tables while cleaning the remains of the previous night’s party. Empty bottles had been gathered near the bar, and chairs rested upside down across several tables.
Lucifer stepped out first and held one hand toward Alexandra.
She looked at it before placing her fingers inside his palm.
“You know I can walk on my own,” she said as he helped her over the small gap between the elevator and the floor.
“I’m aware,” Lucifer replied. “That doesn’t mean I can’t behave like a gentleman whenever the mood strikes me.”
Alexandra walked beside him through the quiet nightclub. “Does the mood strike often?”
“More frequently than most people deserve.”
They crossed the main floor while several employees greeted Lucifer. He answered with casual nods, though his attention stayed mostly on Alexandra as she looked around Lux without the crowd, music, and flashing lights.
The place felt completely different during the morning... It was peaceful.
Alexandra glanced toward the bar where they had kissed the previous night.
A faint warmth returned to her face.
'I really climbed into his arms in front of everyone.'
Lucifer noticed where she was looking and smiled.
“Reliving your finest moment?”
Alexandra gave him a sideways look. “I was thinking about how many people probably recorded it.”
“Several,” Lucifer replied without hesitation. “I imagine the photographs are already being sold to every gossip site in Los Angeles.”
She stopped walking.
Lucifer continued another step before noticing she was no longer beside him.
“You’re joking,” Alexandra said.
Lucifer turned around and studied her worried expression. “Partially. Some people certainly recorded us, though Lux has strict rules about guests taking photographs of other guests without permission. Maze is remarkably effective at encouraging people to delete things.”
Alexandra resumed walking, though her concern remained. “How does she encourage them?”
Lucifer considered the question.
“Threats, intimidation, occasional knives, and a rather convincing smile.”
Alexandra stared at him.
“You’re joking again.”
Lucifer smiled without answering.
They reached the front entrance, where one of the security guards opened the doors for them. Morning sunlight spread across the pavement outside, and the city had already settled into its usual rhythm of traffic, horns, and people moving along the sidewalks.
Lucifer walked with Alexandra toward the private parking area beside the club. They stopped before a white BMW. She pressed the button on her key, and the car unlocked with a soft beep.
Alexandra opened the driver’s door, then stopped before getting inside.
She stared at him for a moment.
“Bye, Lucifer.”
Lucifer smiled back at her. “I hope to see you again.”
“Maybe,” Alexandra replied before getting into the car.
"Drive safe."
"I will."
She closed the door, started the engine, and drove away while Lucifer watched her disappear into the morning traffic.
"Well, that was..." He wanted to jump in joy and maybe roll on the ground while kicking his legs in the air in joy and then brag around, but that'd go against his Lucifer persona. "...interesting."
His phone pinged once.
Lucifer checked his phone. There is a party downtown in 4 days, hosted by Ty Huntley, a star quarterback. Many famous celebrities will attend the party.
"Here we go. Season 1, episode 3. Poor Ally. But ain't no one dying on my watch."
