I started asking family if they had heard of a “Roman Salute” before Elon’s speech. I was a Percy Jackson kid and never heard it before, so it gives them the space to admit they didn’t and plants the thought in their head on why. I have followed a lot of people on Substack lately and it has been very nice, actually. A lot of folks from TikTok/insta etc. have joined. It seems to be giving some of the creators I liked from other platforms a little bit longer form situation to get more in depth into things and therefore tends to attract a more intelligent crowd. There are exceptions, but it doesn't seem to be overwhelmed by bullshit yet. (I'm still not reading it at bedtime though you are right on that)

Grad from public school in 2000 here.... health teacher was a really rough looking ex coach. He did the same thing with the birth videos except there were 3 different films! Slideshows with cancers, diseased livers, parasites...it was like health shock class and traumatized everyone for the one quarter (10wk) requirement to graduate.

P.s. if you’re looking to dip your toes into community service try volunteering with your local community theater. Personally I started volunteering with costumes ended up being on the board and now I regularly interact with local government officials and local businesses trying to put on shows and obviously discussions on other issues arise. Theater also attracts many older folks so we are making cross generational connections. I also found a church through the theater since they gave us a rehearsal space which shockingly walks the walk and I will help with their bi-weekly food/dinner necessities and clothing events for the needy.

I had my PE coach/health teacher shame me about smoking cigs in middle school(I did not) because the adult who did my laundry smoked when folding clothes. He would not let it go for days because I let shit go and then I blew up and had him call my house to confirm.

Catching up on the backlog of warm-ups since joining! This episode reminded me—my dad is a die-hard Eagles fan, even though we’re from the South. We just so happened to be at Disney the week before the game, and my son and my dad had a challenge going to see how many people they could get a “Go Birds!” back from. Every time they saw someone in Eagles gear, they shouted at them. We had entire crowds going at times! 😂😂😂
