It's a book Club Episode! And this week Mrs. Pearlmania read a novel that the listeneres have been requesting ages, The Hacienda by Isabela Canas. This novel is set in the Hacienda San Isidro where the newly married Beatriz confronts the family history of her new husband, Don Rodolf Solorzano. It is through the help of Padre Andres that Beatriz is able to ward off the evil that resides inside her fix'er up'er estate. 

As always, we are going to spoiler this book, while enjoying laughs and tasks along the way. Maybe the Pearlman's will even get haunted through the use of touchscreen laptop technology! OOOOooooh, spooky.

I came to comment in the middle of listening to the ep, and I was like “whoa! How did they get from this book to ‘DEI keeps planes in the sky’??” This book sounds like it’s a ‘Setting’ doorway, and Mrs. P is a ‘Character’ and ‘Plot’ reader.

DEI keeps planes in the sky! From what Mrs P covered this feels like it was written by someone who really admires works like Like Water For Chocolate [book and film] and Pan's Labyrinth, where sometimes having a character be a little one-note can work because they're a paper cut-out in a fairy story or a folk tale. The trick is blending the edges enough so the audience doesn't immediately twig to the fact that the characters are paper cut outs.

DEI keeps planes in the sky 😭 I kept putting off listening to this because I was reading the book- MAAAAN I really wanted to like this story because it has a setting in Mexico and that's part of my heritage. But the pacing was too slow for me and the "hints" as to who the culprit is was too obvious. I think what further turned me off from the book was when Adres was talking about "the crier" when it's "La Llorona" which is a big part of Mexican folklore 😫 (I'm being picky about this translation lol). Unrelated: Doña is pronounced like "dough-nyah" (y'knoy, nyah :3)
