I’ll never forget my first performance for me as a security officer. I asked why I didn’t get a high score and basically the manager said nobody ever gets high score unless you save burning baby from a building or something what a fucking mindfuck. To kind of put this in perspective I worked at a corporate security, corporate security. There’s no point behind a baby from a burning building.

Oh my poor, sweet, confused American friends. It’s okay, I got you. Okay, so Vancouver is on the southwestern tip of the Canadian mainland. The confusingly named Vancouver Island is just off the coast and has the provincial capital Victoria (where I live) on its southernmost tip. Both Vancouver and the island are gorgeous and have the Canadian platonic ideal of No Snow, but the cost of living for both is eye-wateringly high and both had housing crises a full decade before the rest of the country started feeling the pinch . You don’t have to have a job confirmed to come to the island, but immigrating to Canada is actually pretty hard, and a confirmed job is one of the few ways to get Landed Immigrant status. I am deeply intrigued by ANYTHING that will lessen our glut of Maple Maga media, so please, do propose it to the government! Whatever you do, however, don’t let them shuffle you to Alberta. Just trust me 🙄

As someone who was born and raised in Vancouver and then moved "out east," let me correct your geography. The city of Vancouver is not on Vancouver Island, the city is on the mainland (above Seattle) and the island (which is very big) is a 90 minute ferry ride away from Vancouver. Both are very scenic and have great mild weather. Don't feel bad, I've had to explain this to many eastern Canadians too.

I pocket dial people too. I think my screen locks after 30 seconds instead of 10, and what happens is I stick my phone in my bra, pocket, purse or whatever, and it presses a ton of buttons. Duolingo is breaking my heart. I need Duolingo. 😔 I’m learning Spanish, French, and Japanese. How am I supposed to do that without it?
