Another episode with something from my childhood. First, Lake Lanier and this time, Zebulon. There's a town in NC, eastern Wake County, called Zebulon. My senior year of high school (1989/90) my high school, East Wake HS, merged with Zebulon high school and it increased my graduating class by 50%. We moved to NC because my stepdad worked for Glaxo which had a plant in Zebulon. The 3 towns in the area are Knightdale, Zebulon, and Wendell (which includes, and I not making this up, Lizard Lick)

Re: which department store in my area was bought my Macy’s — Meier & Frank in Portland, Oregon became Macy’s circa 2009. Then the Macy’s store closed in 2017, leaving a massive moribund abandoned storefront in the core of downtown.

Famous Barr was bought up by Macy's here in St. Louis. They had the best French onion soup, and I inherited the recipe for it somehow. Maybe I'll make it soon in tribute.

I think in Portland, OR, it was Meier and Frank (opened its flagship store in 1909 in Portland) that got bought by Macy's. Converted to Macy's in 2006.

As a BITCH names Sam, I felt the "MY NAME IS ALEX, I understand why pronouns are important." If I had a dollar for each "I like working with Sam, HE really knows how to help customers" it would be in the hundreds. I don't care, especially when it positive feedback. Where I used to live in CO, the May D & F department store became Foleys and then was bought by Macy’s. My mom used to work the gift wrap counter at May D & F. Her wrapping skills are *peak*.

At my college, employees get one free meal a week in the cafeteria. But it's not just reheated or quick service stuff. It's all made from scratch every day by the culinary students and is all you can eat. They usually have 3-4 different food varieties (Italian, Mexican, etc) at any given time. The regular price is just under $10, but if you buy a meal plan it can be as low as $6/meal... For all you can eat, fresh made food.

Our Macys used to be a Famous Barr but it went under, sat vacant for like 10 years and now it’s a Trader Joes everyone’s losing it over.

When I was a kid my parents took me to a ‘parade party’. Someone they knew lived in an apartment along the parade route, their floor lined up with the balloons. This was the 90s so the balloons were huge. It was awesome. I asked my parents why I don’t have pictures of this, because I remember it being awesome, and they said the view was at crotch height to every balloon. So when the film came back all of their photos were either a blurry toddler or buzz lightyear’s crotch was behind me. We had to leave early because my baby sister was crying too much every time the wind pushed the balloons into the building.
