Mrs. P tackles the issue of no fault divorce and how some conservatives want to get rid of it. Before it was legal a whole industry sprung up around the "Reno Cure" and traveling out of state to get a divorce. From celebrity gossip to lesbian enclaves this episode has it all.

The Trans Agenda (Bucky)

Y'all I just got through cleaning the most disgusting vomit from a sink at work. I'm on lunch with no appetite to eat. But then I got the notif for the new episode. The subject of this episode and OOOOO 👀 I can't WAIT to get back to work and listen to y'all joke about divorcing each other for an hour and 3 minutes

Tragically Optimistic Plant Lady

For the next handful of years, no-fault divorce is gonna be a HUGE safety net. Whoever gets into a primary for 2026, their position on it must be crystal-clear.

Can we please get your reaction to Goodbye Earl? It is iconic!

DredgenJedi

Goodbye, Earl – a fun song from The Chicks back when they were “The Dixie Chicks” about two women murdering one’s abusive husband and getting away with it. Starring Jane Krakowski (30 Rock), Lauren Holly, (Dumb and Dumber, NCIS) and Dennis Franz (NYPD Blue) as Earl.

Buttmunchmcgee

Ya girl buttmunchmcgee here winding red yarn to knit my LOVELY husband a melt the ICE hat (by Paul Neary, @yarn_cult), then knit as many has humanly possible ❤️💪 I would love to hear the result of the audience's collective wife, Mrs. Pearlmania, after opening too many tabs on protest hats! I learned that the melt the ICE hats were patterned after 1940s Norwegian Nazi protest hats.

OH MY GOD AYN RAND I have a story about that. Backstory I went to a very tiny k-12 school, that was like 500 kids total, in very red rural NY. In 11th or 12th grade my English teacher had us read Anthem by Ayn Rand. And admittedly, 17 year old me really liked that book purely because I just liked dystopian novels and the lead guy like had a lady friend but I honestly thought he was low-key gay with the other guy character (idr their names because they were just numbers). It was also a short easily digestible book. My teacher was OBSESSED with Ayn Rand and she explained objectivism and egoism but I honestly didn't really pay much attention to it like yeah ok whatever you like Rand that's fine. CAUSE I DIDNT KNOW! I was so young and naive I just didn't really understand what any of these ideas actually meant. And then in memy senior year that teacher REALLY tried to push me and my bestie into reading the Fountainhead for that scholarship!!! Mind you, this was like 2014. And legit the only reason I didn't is because that book was thick as fuck and I was like I'm a senior taking college level courses already and I do not have time for this shit lmfao. I didn't learn about how horrible Ayn Rand was until a few years later and I was sooo disappointed because I actually loved that English teacher because she was funny and silly and just like super enthusiastic. She was also like in her later 50s. I actually shamefully BOUGHT ANTHEM after we read it because I enjoyed it so much. I want to read it again just so I can recontextualize it in my memory but much like Mr. P, I simply just never read fiction anymore

Reminds me of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou which just makes all of the sense now in retrospect. I’m tracking down some red yarn asap too 🧶

Buttmunchmcgee

Name so fucking on point 🙌🫶 going to check that out now!!

Radish The Drunk Bard Gnome from Wisconsin

You don’t have to divorce him if you’re a widow 😂 (it wasn’t me I swear) but seriously my mom stayed in 2 abusive relationships because she thought any guy was better than no guy. I swore I would never live like that.

When I was married I tried a lot of different antidepressants. It turned out the antidepressant I needed at the time was a divorce 👍

3 Puppies in a Trench Coat

You absolutely have to listen to Goodbye Earl. Turns out he was a missing person who nobody missed at all.

No fault divorce got me in a better situation mentally and physically.

I had to walk into my husband's office to show him the Venture Bros reference.

Darcy McCusker

Same! And Jennifer Tilly played Joan Crawfords part in the Broadway revival 🎭 and the subsequent pro-shot aired on PBS. She’s the nominal villain, and gets the best line, it’s great

Katrina_McBean_Kerfuffle_Kween

I saw a clip for that revial during a PBS fundraiser & it broke my heart to have not seen it ❤jungle red❤ The 08 remake was a complete wasted opportunity (it was 🗑)

As a Reno resident, I got so pumped and disappointed when I saw the arch in the YouTube thumbnail 😂😂😂 huge love/hate relationship with this biggest little hellhole

Divorce doesn't always stop an abusive spouse. Monique and Spencer Tepe were killed by Monique's ex husband. They had been divorced for 10 years.

Enjoyer_Of_Books

I love learning history from you guys and also getting tidbits for the same time period from other creators. Cause at the same time as all this divorce history was happening and things were getting more progressive, Indiana pioneered the forced sterilization laws that the Nazi's used as a template for their own laws. During the year of that Las Vegas divorce in the 60s from this episode, the forced sterilizations in Indiana were STILL happening (forced sterilization law was on the books until I think 1974).

Haven’t listened yet but the title made me so happy, suiting up for the yummiest hot girl walk of all time.

I knew about divorce ranches from Sapphic Romances!

I love that Craig’s are universally known to be shitty men. My best friend, and separately my ex best friend, both decided to have kids with Craig’s. One is a deadbeat dad, and the other groomed a girl 21 years younger than him to have his kids and pay all his bills. And no girl, he doesn’t look like he’s 35. He looks like he’s had a ROUGH 53 years.

Silly Little Bard

God, a women’s divorce boarding house is prime for a sapphic romance novel.

Silly Little Bard

OMG I should have read the comments first. I NEED to know what these books are.

I grew up with country music pumping 24/7 so I’m shocked when someone doesn’t know it.

After being together for 12+ yrs he decided to propose so I’m “owned” by someone I trust when we fully devolve into the Handmaids Tale.

I know people who HATE country music, but still know every word to Goodbye Earl.

FUN FACT - Jesus was a vociferous anti-divorce girlie because back then, the woman would be fucked if her husband divorced her. Jesus didn't hate divorce because of divorce, he hated divorce because JESUS WAS A FEMINIST

happylauf

I swear none of the men know about Goodbye Earl, but let me tell you, my mom LOVED that song so aggressively. I am so properly earwormed by Mrs.P’s reference.

Getting a divorce was the best thing that ever happened to me! Growing up, I was socialized to believe that marriage was a lifetime commitment and that relationships are supposed to be difficult. LIES. I also fell for the sunk cost fallacy, meaning I stayed in the relationship because I had already put so many years into it, that leaving felt like a waste. MORE LIES! You know what was a waste? All the time, money and energy spent trying to get a narcissist to love me. I thought marriage would fix our relationship. EVEN MORE LIES. I thought I couldn't leave because no one would ever love me... THE MOST INSIDIOUS LIE. I am a huge advocate for divorce and I may have talked more than 1 person into getting a divorce after having a few drinks and absolutely no filter. I'm sure it was inevitable. I was just the spark to the flame. BURN IT ALL DOWN. GET A DIVORCE! LIFE'S TOO SHORT TO WASTE IT ON MEDIOCRE WHITE GUYS.

Megan

I would read a divorce ranch resort book series, especially if it was murder mysteries. 🤓📚 Ooo like how to get away with murder and it's of husbands like Earl. 😂 So school lunch for my kids is $2.60 for the main meal and $1.10 - $1.25 for something extra (chips, fruit etc.). Not bad but it adds up. I let my kids buy 2x a week. It was nice when my son was in kindergarten they had free lunch (the tail end of Covid when schools were open but had to do masks).

Darkbriar

The original movie The Women has a major plot point of the main character going to Reno, New York Society breakup of the time. Great look at the Reno divorce.

Heads up Duchess! I think you accidentally responded to the wrong comment.

Omgoddess!! How is it Alex knows about the movie Bound but not Goodbye Earl by the Chicks?!?? Ok Alex do better! 😂 btw 💯 agree Desert Hearts freakin cult classic!!

Now I’m terrified marathon grille is one of the dining establishments that mistreated Mrs P and I’ll have to go without my occasional weekday Diet Coke, Caesar, and sweet potato fries

Coco Boomslang

The hubs and I have been together since we were 16, we turn 40 this year. We have an understanding: any cheating or abuse and it's done. We also have the understanding that the only way he's getting away from me is if he's dead.....if I have to be the one to do it, so be it.

ThunderNuts

Listened to this on Patreon and then watched on YouTube with my fiancé. She made the comment that Mrs. P looks like Sam Sparks from Cloudy with a Chance of meatballs and we never realized how much her glasses drastically change her appearance. Also I hate Ayn Rand and the best thing that ever came from her was the fact that her bad ideas made for a good villain in the Bioshock games.

Sit n stitch

Ok but the Ayn Rand foundation still sends class sets of her books for free. I always knew when the football AP got the phone call/email bc a rando box of books no one in the English department ordered would show up. They make great props for the wonky table w a short leg.

Pearlmania500

No, never give up on their Caesar salad, fries and a crisp Diet Coke! I hope I remember to pull this for After Party and I will share war stories of that joint, not to bad, I still go there for a nice lunch lolol ~ Mrs.P

Witch Of The Waste

As a child of divorced parents I’ve always been pro divorce!

Purple_Nurple

It’s me, I’m people. 😅🤪 lol

on vibes 24_7

I’ll say it a million times - good marriages don’t end in divorce (except strategic ones for healthcare or financial reasons where the couple stays together) abusive, neglectful and mismatched marriages end in divorce. Divorce is almost always great news.

AugieLovesPenny

I stg that y’all have podded about Earl by The Chicks in the past.

MsEaVav

Mrs. P “Listen fuck Ayn Rand for life…” Me “…And Matt Bird (or Birk) SPECIFICALLY”

The movie The Women (1939) is an all female cast all about Reno divorce culture. It's so funny, go watch it

TheChaosPierogi

I need a blind react video of Mr.P listening to good bye earl 😆💀

I can't believe, in the year of our Lord, 2026, that I got Limp Bizkit'ed. I got my Bizkit Limped? It's a work in progress.

WhateverTheHeckThisIs

Goodbye Early was such a canon event for me. My cousin and I made a music video on my grandpa's camcorder acting it out with beanie babies. I need Alex's reaction.

a_bitch_named_sam

So is the easter egg for this season be "how can we slip Draft Kings" into this episode? Y'all are 2 for 2.

a_bitch_named_sam

"married her divorce attorney" so this bitch is literally Charlotte from Sex and the City?

Dan West Comedy

Me at the end: "wait, is she doing Limp Bizkit?"

Freyas Artistic Odyssey

I currently work at a bank and can 100% attest to that last bit. If you divorce someone, RUN to the bank. "Primary" and "secondary" ownership are just fucking words, literally no one at the bank gives a shit. All owners equally own that money. We warn people about this when they add a joint owner and they still act shook when their partner takes it all. It does not matter who put the money in, any owner can take it out. I have also seen a few funny failed lawsuits. Its always the husband trying to sue the wife/gf for clearing out the account after a split.

NeverMetANiceGuyNamedMatt_fuckyouMattBirdspecifically

The summer I graduated high school (2010) I actually read Atlas Shrugged for the scholarship bc I was so desperate. However, after taking weeks to read this unreadable drivel, I got the end and said, “Fuck this. $100 is not worth it”. And I’ve been a Ayn Rand hater ever since. Thanks neurodivergence for making me less susceptible to propaganda!!

Cherry_Vanilla_Coke_Supremacy

One of my favorite stories from working at the bank. This guy came in one day saying he had fraud cuz all the money was gone from his checking account. After sitting with our manager for over an hour, turned out it was his wife. She found out he had been staying at hotels and cheating instead of going on business trips. When he finally called her she told him he’ll get his portion of their money back when he comes home and moves his stuff out 😂. His walk of shame out the door was priceless.

Cherry_Vanilla_Coke_Supremacy

I’m glad I’m the type of neurodivergent that could tell Mrs. P was doing a reference almost immediately. Thank you for kicking off an afternoon of millennial jams.

Freyas Artistic Odyssey

This made me giggle because we have had basically the same thing happen. A lady came in because there were "weird" transactions on her account. Her dumbass husband had been cheating on her and usied their joint account to pay for dating sites including Ashley Madison. She cleared the account and took her name off it, but didn't close it because she wanted it to be a surprise for the next time he tried to spend money.

Elder Millennial Dogtor

Between the Goodbye Earl and the Limp Bizkit, my millennial country girl with angry streak heart is so happy.

Raccoons in a trench coat

Mr. P, if Mrs. P ever wants to go out to the lake and pack a lunch, it’s fine. Just get in the trunk.
