Now I have to look up who owns Sea World San Antonio (where I went to ocean camp as a kid twice) like what they own some but not all?? Ok Blackstone does not currently own SeaWorld San Antonio. 2009: Blackstone acquired SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment from Anheuser-Busch InBev. 2013: Blackstone took the company public. 2017: Blackstone sold its final 21% stake to Zhonghong Zhuoye Group. 2024: SeaWorld Entertainment rebranded to United Parks & Resorts

As someone who grew up where 80% of my high school worked at Sesame Place… this does not surprise me at all

Insomnia Cookies near bars and college campuses they specialize in hot cookies (kinda little Caesar’s of cookies). My sister can’t have any of the cookie delivery brands they all use palm oil which gives her hives.

Sophia

I was listening to their back catalog on YT & he's mentioned having a sister baby-sit for them occasionally. But yeah, for all the talk about either of his parents individually, he's rarely mentioned much anecdotes about his family life growing up (perhaps simply for privacy). Wonder if she'd ever be a possible guest on the show for a holiday or game episode if she's not into presenting or chatting about a deep-dive topic 🤔

Ross Rolled

Thanks for justifying my buying 600 random cds off eBay.

Chelle.Yeah

Me listening casually until I hear ROVER 😭 I left my prek-5th grade art teacher job from burnout and have been pet sitting and dog walking with rover ever since! I get to stay at other people’s houses tho- so I can get space from my unmedicated schizophrenic brother who moved in with us 🌟 (not the main reason- our family dog doesn’t do well with other dogs so couldn’t have it at home anyways)

Brain_Too_Full

i was a hilton employee for 5 years and yall hit the nail on the head with how theyre run, theres a whole industry of hotel management companies that sign contracts with hilton and other brands and how well a hotel is run is entirely dependent on who that management company is not the actual brand name on the building but its near impossible for a guest to find out what company runs it especially since most employees dont even realize they dont work for hilton directly

Pelicans are my favorite dinosaur

Donald Trump famously didn't pay his contractors. I would love a video of them smashing Trump gilded shit with a hammer. That would be so satisfying. Sadly, Trump probably had thugs throwing the contractors out a window

The Trans Agenda (Bucky)

I still have a handful of episodes on Patreon and a chunk of early episodes to listen to. I don't recall a sister mention but it's totally possible I just forgot about it haha I remember certain stories only because they told them on more than one episode and/or they were memorable. But yeah not a lot of sister talk. Could just het privacy which I totally respect! It was shocking to me because I guess I was always just assuming only child energy 🤣

As an ex Mormon who lives in Utah, and has deep roots here, it’s starts to make a lot of sense that canonically salt lake is the capital in the hunger games 🙃 Mormons also LARP the persecution every year, as part of the youth program. It’s called trek, and you dress like a pioneer and are put into ‘families’ to do a week long hike with, while pulling handcarts in the middle of nowhere. There is also the tradition of a women’s pull, which is supposed to represent when the men got called to war and the women had to survive alone. It’s usually the largest hill of the whole thing, and they make all the guys stand at the top and watch the girls pull all the shit up this big ass hill. It’s wild.

Chelle.Yeah

Bumble doesn’t surprise me because dating apps have changed drastically since post covid. It used to be free for so many messages, likes etc- now you have to pay memberships and shit to even scroll thru options. So lame

Firing employees has been pretty sketchy for decades. When the steel mill closed down for good in my family’s hometown in the 1980s, there were several rounds of layoffs in shutting the plant down. My papaw was one of the first workers to be laid off. He was a safety inspector. Yes, these people got rid of their safety inspectors first. At that point, I think they may have deserved to go out of business as much as it economically devastated that area.

Then again, this man’s bloodline also caused me to be something like 4th cousins with JD Vance soooo……

Knoebels Amusement Resort is *not* owned by private equity and is still free entry. We go multiple times each summer because not only do you not have to pay to enter the park, but you can also BYOB/foods and your dog! It's in Elysburg, PA.

Miss Moonbear

I’ve lived in Ohio for 30 years, and this podcast is how I found out we had a sea world.

Mormons also own Marriott! There is a book of mormon in every nightstand. Every time I stay at a Marriott, I write above Joseph Smith’s photo “this man was a pedophile!” Oh and the mormon church was in the Epstein files.

I feel like crumble cookies is the new cherry-berry/insert frozen yogurt trend of the 2010's here and its going to die here soon its just cake mix they've concocted into "cookies" and that's why they have so much lift compared to most normal cookies you'd make at home. (I like mine flat and crispy)

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaasoooooooooooooon

29:04 when I worked at a VERY fancy Greek restaurant in Center City Philadelphia they fired one of the managers, so naturally he went to the computer and deleted literally every reservation in the books

LiztheLionLover

Hiii! Fellow Utahan here. I always giggle a little when folks talk about Utah and Mormonism. I was born, raised, and baptized in SLC. My great grandparents immigrated here for the church, I (unsurprisingly have ties to ol' Brigham himself). Trek, baptisms for the dead, and all that seem so normal but are jaringly not the other people talk about them.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaasoooooooooooooon

Just walked down to a fishtown corner store and got a mini cherry pie better than any crumble cookie for $1.24. Is it so cheap because someone stole it at some point? Probably. Does it make it less tasty? Not really.

Mary Hatch

Oh hey neighbor! 100% hahaha I have a lot of out of state friends and especially with Mormon culture being so very to the forefront of culture these days, half the time they’re just asking me if this is all real 😅 I was also born and raised in the valley. I still have a lot of active family, my parents are temple workers 🥴 but yeah, both sides of the family were part of the initial migration west. There is even a town named after the family in southern Utah. And I am (distantly thank god) related to the crusty dinosaur of a senator we had for far too long.

a lesbian with a sword

it's more like the new private equity management team walks into the office and sees there's 3 people in IT and says there only needs to be one and they get rid of the two people that get paid more because they've been there the longest and know what they're doing and now the company is left with a single 21 year old that was still learning everything to run everything. Now Jared is freaking out and no one's getting their IT tickets resolved because he doesn't know the code to the server closet because Crystal always dealt with it!

a lesbian with a sword

the milwaukee insomnia cookies nearest UWM's campus (maybe a mile away, but totally walkable in the summer and where a ton of student apartments are located) actually takes the UWM food service card so you can use your room and board money to buy hot cookies (or at least they did when i was in college 10 years ago). it's always felt super predatory to me that they took the money the kids are supposed to be feeding themselves with for an entire year for a super over priced cookie that happens to be warm

MrsP_let_MrP_bring_the_board_back_please

So quick question… isn’t blackstone the company that CEO got shot at after the Luigi incident? They tried to blame CTE and say that he was going after the NFL, but we haven’t heard anything about it since?

Katrina_McBean_Kerfuffle_Kween

Omfg... private equity is why I got married on Valentines Day. My girlfriend's position was eliminated & we had to get married because she was going to be a type one diabetic without health insurance

lesbos4mrs.p

25 mins in and yes Utah is the home of all evil it’s true

lesbos4mrs.p

also Mormons are literally holding our state hostage idk which Mormons are saying they relate to trans people bc they’re not in Utah unfortunately 😭

Mally_and_the_concrete_duckies

That's because none of us want to live in Utah because the Bubble is a toxic culture formed by people trying to out-righteous each other. Most non-Utah Mormons are pretty chill. If they aren't chill, they either are from Utah, travel to Utah regularly, or are close to people from Utah who pull them into the competitive righteousness. Even most BYU students are pretty chill. When I went there, you could tell by the attitudes which ones were from Utah or Idaho and which ones were from outside the Mormon Corridor.

Mally_and_the_concrete_duckies

Important thing to note about Mormons and baptisms for the dead: in the 1800s, the predominant view among the many protestant US sects was that there was no purgatory and that people went straight to heaven or hell...and people were frequently told that if their family didn't join the *right* church, they'd go to Hell. Joseph Smith's childhood was fully of exploring different churches because this kind of teaching made his mother worried about which one was right. Our religion's history starts with a 14 year old boy praying in fear that he'd go to hell if he chose the wrong church and trying to find out which one was right, only for God and Jesus to show up and say "none of 'em, they're all wrong!"

I work for a tech company, and you’d think we have impenetrable security, but a ton of sensitive employee info was leaked last year. Nowhere is safe.

Came here to say the same!! It's the perfect park for any age (and especially the little ones until you know their ride tolerance levels) because you can choose exactly what you want to do, get the wristbands for all-day riding or just pay for the individual rides you want to, and no fees for parking or to get into the park. It's the perfect PA day trip!

Bruh I’m listening on my Apple pod app for this one and tell me why I got a fuckin kid rock tour ad 😭

I've always called BS when restaurants say that they won't be able to make a profit if they have to pay their servers full minimum wage. My mom owned an IHOP franchise and paid her servers MORE than what the regular minimum wage was and still made a lot of money. And, keep in mind that IHOP controlled the pricing, so she wasn't able to just make things more expensive.

StarlightDancer

When she retired, corporate took over and completely screwed everything up. They cut everyone's wages, and practically doubled the number of servers on the floor so everyone only had 2-3 tables and made hardly anything in tips. I remember the manager telling me how much my mom had been "over paying" people and I just replied "yeah but she never had to worry about people not showing up for work or quitting in the middle of a shift".

StarlightDancer

Also, I tried crumble cookies once. Wasn't impressed. The middle of the cookie was still partly raw. I got the impression that they just took a regular cookie recipe and used it to make giant cookies with no understanding of baking science.

GoblinMom

They just put in a swig (dirty soda place) near my KPOT and there were people lined up 8 cars deep at the drive through BEFORE IT WAS OPEN.

Alex and Rachel Trautman

You're most likely thinking of Insomnia cookies. They are commonly on college campuses, like MSU near me. I like them a lot better than crumbl, usually a better price and not so muffin-like. Really hoping they aren't private equity...

Shakirah Bey

I was casually browsing my Chirp app for something lighthearted to listen to while I cooked dinner tonight. Landed on Cosmic Queries by Neil Degrasse Tyson. Queue intro: "Blackstone presents, Cosmic Queries..." to which I yelled goddammit Blackstone!! Anyway, I hit my J and made some Nutella croissants to ease my annoyance. You should try them Mrs. P. Just slather some Nutella (I use a chunky store brand) onto those Pillsbury crescents, roll them up, and bake 'em. Edit: crap. I forgot about gluten. Are there gluten free crescents?

WildflowersNWhiskey

Blackstone is in the process of buying out TXNM, parent company of PNM (the power provider for like half of New Mexico 🤬) and TNMP, a provider for parts of Texas. I live in New Mexico, and an investment fund in Saudi Arabia (who provided the largest part of the fund for this takeover) is about to have influence over my power bill. NEAT. 😤 Sounds about right for 2026.

WildflowersNWhiskey

Krispy Kreme sold them to private equity in the last few years 😞

The secret YouTube link coming in clutch with a newborn. 💙 I was an audio listener only until I stared to breastfeed. Staring off into a corner gets old and weird fast.

OMG, My wife and I had the exact same fridge experience you guys had. First home, excited about the ice and water in the fridge door, four weeks after moving in it's raining in the basement 😭. I still haven't replaced that fridge (4y later) and I'm yearning for that door ice , but I'm scared to hook the water back up to a fridge.

Alright listen. As a FoMo (former Mormon) I had to cut my everything shower short after thr ancestry segment to post here. I want to be very, very clear. Utah sucks. I'm an East Coast person who ended up living here (long story) but as an East Coast Mormon have hated on Utah all of my days. But Utah is not fucking Iceland. They did NOT make an incest app. Why? Because 1) the families that settled Utah (like my mom's) knew who was fucking related to who. I was a late in life kid to a late in life kid. My grandmother was born in 1905 and I'm only 44. So I was raised old school. My mom still knows all the families and how they were related in her tiny Utah town. We're huge in CA and there was enough new blood coming in they didn't need that. Plus when people joined probably until the 1960s as adults they usually ended up in Utah. 2) it was a full genealogy play. That's. A huge cornerstone of the religion. I grew up near Lake Ontario in the 80s and 90s and my mom was one of two adults in a large congregation that had been born Mormon. The rest were all converts. Several hundred people. They built several new buildings and split new congregations bc they got too big several times when I was a kid. The genealogy was all aimed at those people. And also... They preach it a lot different back east than out west. A big deal was always made that you were yourself when you died. If you would have said "pass" in this life you would say pass in the next life. You're sitting there like well who would say no to super heaven? Well, if I couldn't say fuck like ten times a day I would. There is also a teaching that we'll be happy wherever we end up, you just need to be baptized for, lack of a better word, super heaven. I mostly left bc of the sexism and corrupt leadership. But the things I was taught as a kid and studied as an adult made sense if you were inclined to have spiritual beliefs. There was so much consent and don't take shit that we learned back East that the rest of the Mormon world didn't believe in, and that's where they lost me. (Fun fact, it was always a joke that when someone from Utah came to run a program or something back East it would only be a year or two before they were caught embezzling something and then they could "trust" the people back east to do it themselves. I also think having people join as adults brought a much more pragmatic view to things. The people teaching me Sunday School at 10 had seen and done some shit. So I always had a really different take than a lot of these other fuckers.

MyCancerIsInRemissionMadisonRussoCanEatMyAss

Probably not for the same reason as the Jersey Mike's cheese, but every Wendy's near me now uses shredded lettuce instead of nice crunchy leaf lettuce on the premium sandwiches. Idk i just wanted to bitch about it someplace. 😮‍💨

Grumpodillo

Fully expected Mrs. P to bring back the "Dick Cheney is still dead" shoutout lol

Have you considered taking the kiddo to Knoebels? There’s free parking, free entry, the food is reasonably priced, and there’s a lot of stuff to do for younger kids! Plus it’s family owned (not private equity lmao)

pleasedontletmitchoutlivetrump

The pandemic and online/mobile orders broke kids brains in a multitude of ways. One of the ways I've had a not insignificant amount of clients 18-25 years old who have told me they do not know how to order things face to face with another human being. It becomes a lifeskill I actually have to teach them. As a case manager, many of my young adults tell me they have panic attacks, can't make eye contact and shut down when they have to converse with strangers (make appointments over the phone, walk into a store and have a baker customize a cake, order food in person) without a parent present, or at all. Then they become overly attached to me and overshare the wildest information. Tech really has changed socialization for our species. I wonder if countries besides America had issues reintroducing socialization with Gen Alpha/Beta post covid?

pleasedontletmitchoutlivetrump

This is reference to at the one hour mark where you talk about missing being able to talk to humans behind counters versus the ipads at future Jersey Mike's

Post_Potato_Snork

My company laid me off an HOUR after I spoke on their behalf at a 300+ person conference about my work and my group on sustainability. I had to spend the rest of the conference telling everyone jokes on me I don’t work there anymore. My boss said they waited until after the speech to be nice. Could have waited until I got home and not publicly embarrass me.

B_To_The_Tea🫖

Imagine my surprise when Mrs. P dropped the name of the PE group that bought up a company I used to work for and stripped it to resell. They cut the headcount at the manufacturing plants so much that they could no longer cover shifts when someone took vacation, FMLA, or was just absent. That drove all the experienced workers (15+ YOS) to other companies because they got fed up with forced OT. They’ve been struggling to find competent people to operate the lines ever since.

✨Sparkling Misandry✨

We have one family owned amusement park here in the pacific nw and it's WEIRD AND AWESOME. a lot of the stuff there was first built in the 60s so it's psychedelic as hell. And you can feel good about giving them your money! It's called Enchanted Forest 🍄

Ok, I'm mad because I live in Australia and grew up near Sydney. As long as I can remember, there has been an aquarium in Sydney , Darling Harbour, and awhile back they added a native animal zoo called Wildlife World next door and they are great. 10/10 Many animals and fishes and insects and penguins. Over the years they have felt more and more corporate and less and less about the animals. I wasn't sure if it's because I'm just older and jaded, or if it was a legit change. However NOW there is a Madame Tussauds there as well. And you can go to all 3 on one (expensive) ticket. What's the ticket you ask? A MERLIN ENTERTAINMENT TICKET (You can also go to Sydney Tower, but legit no one does that unless you are a very touristy tourist because it hasn't been updated since the 90s, but that's not the point. The point is) IVE BEEN GIVING TO BLACKSTONE FOR LITERALLY MY LIFE AND NOW IM GOING TO FEEL DIRTY EVERY TIME. What's more, we love the aquarium. It is my wife's fav thing to do. And now we have a son, he's about to turn 6m old and we are so excited to take him to the aquarium, but I don't wanna give money to Blackstone. But literally EVERY aquarium in Australia is a SeaLife and they are all fucking Merlin entertainment which means I cannot SEE FISHIES WITHOUT TITHING TO PRIVATE EQUITY and I am VERY MAD.

In Aus as a waitress I made $25/hr (so like 17-18ph USD) and they did fine. We don't rely on tips at all because we get paid enough to survive so tipping isn't A Thing here, but all the fucking online shit has started asking if I want to tip. I'm not tipping my delivery driver unless I drag them out to bring me something stupid in horrible weather and I'm sure as shit not tipping in a self serve. We talk about it sneaking in a fair bit and everyone is pretty anti it, but pretty sure that the tips go to the company, not the actual human (uber/doordash etc I know it does at least)
