I would be listening to this with my wife in the car on the way to Costco, but my kid is insisting that we listen to the same Rihanna song on repeat.

lesbos4mrs.p

just cheered in my car at the reminder that dick Cheney is still dead 🤗💅🏻👯‍♀️🤗

The Trans Agenda (Bucky)

So I'm almost done listening to all the backlog and I just want y'all to know I just so happened to listen to your red-lining/HOA episode today before this one so now I'm just double mad at all the rich fucks who ruin literally EVERYTHING 😭😭😂 like Mr. P, I'm not mad at you guys, I'm mad at the information

Ellie G.

I appreciate Mrs. P’s take on not wanting to potentially harm average everyday workers. At one point in my life, I was in a position where I personally received a lot of very hateful messages directed at the org I worked for. It was extremely draining and harmful for my mental health, and it went on for about a year. The worst part of it was that I didn’t even agree with the thing people were mad at us for and thought it was a bad idea. But alas, I wasn’t anywhere near a position where I could make a decision about it. People often take their anger and frustration about company policy and actions on lower level employees. Even when it is not directed at them, that is who is receiving emails from public contact lines, opening the mail, running the social media. I answered the phone one day and got screamed at for 30 minutes. I actually got the guy to apologize after I told him that, while I understand the need to talk through your emotions, I wasn’t in a position to influence anything that happened. It is extremely draining to work in an environment like that. Which is why, while I think people should express their disagreement, extremely angry and insulting language is not okay. I shouldn’t have had to read things that, through extension of my job, called me a failure and a disgrace for about a year. I obviously can’t disclose what it was about. It wasn’t anything to do with Israel.

Pelicans are my favorite dinosaur

You can still go but Sodium Chloride. It's called "salt"😅 The whole fact that Black salons and barber shops have community business made products is more proof that Black Americans would run this country better than us whities

fragilem1lk

Good on y'all for not letting a two-year-old make your pet-owning decisions! The craziest "what in the audacity" story I have is related to that. I was letting a friend live with me while she was separated from her husband, and she bought four baby chicks because her 10- and 12-year-old daughters encouraged it 🙃 Again, she was LIVING WITH ME, and I found out by her showing up with them

fragilem1lk

Long story short: She ended up keeping them at her mother's house in the basement, and thankfully, I finally was able to force her to give them to a farm, but not before those poor chicks suffered from neglect and "pasty butt". She is no longer my friend.

The Trans Agenda (Bucky)

That sounds awful I'm sorry you had to go through that:( I'm glad you don't have to deal with that now. I have had my moments where I was upset at the way a company was run but I always always check myself because it's not fair to take it out on the person on the phone. I'm also just generally not confrontational like that lol I can understand why people would take out their anger that way but I don't know HOW they can be ok doing that

The Trans Agenda (Bucky)

This will be a long comment but I was already thinking it and then Ellie inspired me. Tl;Dr: my controversial yet brave opinion is I don't support shoplifting *at self checkout* bc you're putting the attendant in a difficult position and the attendant is in the same class as you. Also you are WAY more likely to get caught! I understand and agree with Mrs. P's take on not boycotting MAC, because it's about the intent right? People shop at Target still because that might be the only place they can go. No ethical consumption under capitalism means sometimes you are backed into a corner (or food desert) and you don't have any other options, so you are forced to be unethical. That OR you have other nuanced reasons, including that you know the workers at the bottom don't have options either. My controversial opinion kind of related to this is I don't support shoplifting *at self checkout.* I used to work at Walmart and I ended up as the self check out attendent because I just kept getting put there because I was fast/helpful. I ALWAYS see people claiming shoplifting doesn't harm the employees but does emotional harm not count? The attendants are there to approve your 21+ purchases but really they are there to prevent theft. If you are intentionally trying to steal stuff by not scanning items, switching tags, or "forgetting" to scan, we HAVE to intervene. And yes, of course they can't say "hey you're stealing." You have to approach them and ask if they need help scanning. Or you can say, "hey I think you missed that by accident." But of course they know that you know what they're doing, so people would often immediately get defensive and aggressive. I didn't know at the time but I am uhh autistic and it was terrifying and SO HARD every single time I had to approach someone. There would be times where AP would be right behind me and I HAVE to intervene FIRST to give them a chance not to shoplift before AP can confront them. On reddit especially, people act like shoplifting is Godly and anyone who doesn't 100% support it is a class traitor or something. Like no, I am also very poor and working a shit job. And I can tell you that the frequent shoplifters absolutely didn't need what they were stealing. Multiple people came in every single day to steal. I have SO many stories from working there. They need help and support. The best way to lift stuff is to do but in the store and hide it on your person or in reusable bags. I definitely HAVENT ever done that. You should also be stashing stuff in aisles that don't have cameras. But be careful because they might know you're doing it and they're waiting for you to steal X amount of goods. There were definitely people who stole that needed it and sadly they were caught by AP and I felt fuckng horrible that I had to be a part of it. But I needed that job. The people who stole for fun made that job absolute hell because they knew what they were doing and they would fuck with me to get away with it. I had a lady steal money FROM MY HAND and I got in huge trouble because I didn't even notice. I had to go to the police and give a statement and everything. Luckily the cop was actually nice and didn't blame me the way my boss did. It just really bothers me the way i see people talk about this shit like they're holier than thou for intentionally making life hard for people who are in the same financial boat as them just trying to make a living. Anyways, that's my TEDtalk. I know this comment is too long to read LMAO but this is probably the safest comment section I could say it in

I thought goon was what Little Bunny Foofoo turned you into. My students taught me otherwise. I'm atheist, but immediately went, y'all need Jesus.

The bath oil path to success unlocked a 90s memory: bath oil beads. What the fuck happened to those?! As a kid, those were *peak* queen shit to see in someone's bathroom. Right up there with having a fridge with water and ice on the door and a sectional sofa. Bath oil beads in the shape of seashells? Elite.

Tatianna Garcia

I was HEAVY in the beauty world in 2016. I knew as soon as you said Estee Lauder that this was gunna be a WILD episode.

President of the Fishbein Fan Club

Do I live near Pottstown, PA? Not really. Did I already secure babysitting for that weekend so I can go there? Yes I did.

✨Hot Marta✨

The fact that Mr. P had to hold the Epstein spray bottle says a lot lol

Pariah Carey

Every secret Santa gift I got in the 90s was those dang beads!

I worked for Bryn Mawr College in their dining department for one summer in 2019 and the Estée Lauder company holds their big company meeting there every summer because they’re big donors I guess. The big fancy week long meeting is catered by the college DINING SERVICES. The way a random dude and a curmudgeony old woman who feed college students all year reach manic levels of anxiety for about a month ever summer to serve the one percent who descent on Brynn Mawr Pennsylvania deserves a reality show. They and the week with a white tie banquet held in the Harry Potter-esque banquet hall at Brynn Mawr College. Truly bizarre.

Rach

I also wonder if this will still happen post files because the people working these events are mostly lower income students and one thing about Brynn Mawr students is that they love a protest.

Lisa Paglicci

With the way the economy is going, sometimes we have no choice in where we shop and buy things, now. Sometimes boycotting can be a luxury, and not everyone is fortunate enough to do it. If you live in a tiny town and let’s say the ONLY place in town to buy from is Target? Or you have to drive out an hour to get anything, it costs more at the end of the day. (That being said fuck Target). It’s like telling people I work in pharmacy and I’m suddenly “big pharma.” Tha being said, well said Mrs P about MAC and not hurting their staff.

The fine art market is 1000% used to launder money and evade taxes. In 2013, Mexico implemented new laws aimed at preventing this from happening, requiring galleries to report sales and purchases (to their version of IRS I'm assuming) if they exceeded certain dollar amounts. The fine art market there saw a reduction of up to 70% afterwards.

CHEMISTRY MENTIONED IN MY FAVORITE PODCAST 🩷✨ more kids DO need chemistry sets! chemistry is fun and exciting and not at all frustrating lol. my workplace sells a little chemistry set for kids in the gift shop a few floors above our actual chemistry lab. science rules, thanks for the wonderful episode and also plugging chem lol

I got to go on a full spiel explanation of The beheading of Holofernes by Judith to my husband. 😁

Also I'll always remember getting the makeup gift sets for Christmas. My dad would buy my mom her perfume for her present and then they'd give me the free gift. 2 presents in one! Lol

another_bisexual_scientist

I feel like more of the kids science sets I’ve seen in the past few years are more geared toward robotics/coding. There are some decent varieties i’ve seen at michaels. Nat geo has a decent variety

A Mountain Dwarf Miner of the Coldiron Clan

Fwiw, I read all of it and totally will warn people how not to shoplift. Dont need them getting caught by AP because stealing is bad. *cough* And also, hearing other people understand the whole backed into a corner thing helps relieve a little of my own stress about the predicament the majority of us are in. My own 'Tism makes it really hard to not beat myself up for not being able to be as ethical as I want to. So thank you 🩵

A Mountain Dwarf Miner of the Coldiron Clan

Nah been there too, with my previous job. I loved the job 90% of the time, but god damn that 10%. (It was a monthly ordeal since I worked for a subscription service)

The Trans Agenda (Bucky)

I appreciate this so much! They don't have to stop if they really need to lift, but I do want them to me more careful. AP is usually dressed as a customer and they will follow you around the store if they suspect anything. But I don't think they ever pretended to shop with a cart so it should be easy to notice. I've noticed myself being followed once or twice when I truly wasn't doing anything wrong. It might vary by store or corp., but at our Walmart, if the suspected shoplifter came to SCO, we had to try to discourage their stealing and give them a chance to actually purchase stuff. In these cases, usually they had a purse stuffed full or something like that. I just want people to be smarter, safer, and to stop shaming the cashiers who work there. Cause also the other thing is pretty much all the stealing tricks people use at SCO are not as slick as they think they are. We can see everything being scanned and it's very obvious when the expensive Pioneer Woman dishware set rings up as $7 leggings 🤣

Rockstache

Oh, no, it was a song from the some animated movie came Home.

Re: MAC Cosmetics - I completely understand that it is a complicated thing, but agree that there are compelling reasons not to boycott something even if it is owned by something/someone you cannot support. My personal favorite example of that right now: National Parks.

Peach

I save this podcast for today because I knew I’d be doing nothing but scanning and shredding all day at work. I had to pause. WHAT DO YOU MEAN HER SON IS TO BLAME FOR THIS BULLSHIT?!??

Emily

I used to LOVE getting chemistry and other science related sets as a kid. For like 4 years in a row I got a chemistry set and Limited Too gift card for my birthday and I’m so happy my parents taught me about the duality of woman at such a young age. I can be cute af and a smart science lady 💅

Europoopin

I always wanted a chemistry set!!! My brother had 2 (one from each parent) that I couldn't play with. My dad wanted to have father son time and my mom didn't want us playing with the chemicals unsupervised. Jokes on us, my mom worked a lot so we were by ourselves most the time. 🫠 Another Christmas injustice.

Please do an episode about Orban! I went to the Terror Haza in Budapest in like 2007. I would love for you both to look up the propaganda in higher education.

I (middle school librarian) have 3 guinea pigs that I bring to school with me every week. The kids love them, but they don’t get to hold them… if their mom can’t trust them to brush their teeth every day, and their teachers can’t trust them to bring a pencil every day, I’m not going to trust them with the literal life of an animal… They are great, and I love them, but I wouldn’t recommend them for a small child… they are a much bigger commitment than most people realize.

MillennialCatMom

Mrs. P just made me want to use Mac makeup. I watched something with a Canadian and they said a big issue with Americans is we have this all or nothing attitude. Boycott what you can when you can. I think the important thing is to do your best to consume consciously. Like if you have to shop at target buy a name brand over the target brand when you can. But yes fuck Target.

MillennialCatMom

This comment has me giggling I’ve read it 3 times.

A guinea pig killed my Sims family! Remember the Guinea Pig Disease??

Witch Of The Waste

Aside from her horrible son I loved learning about Estée Lauder. It was my grandmas go to brand and she’s the one that introduced me to the department store counter experience. It all lead to me getting my estheticians license so it was cool to learn some extra lore!
