Interesting episode!! Speaking of quacks- you should look up “Jilly Juice” on Wikipedia, the woman who created it had a cult following and she claimed it could cure so many things. A former friend of mine was sucked in and tried her “protocol”, which mostly just resulted in raging liquid shits, because it’s fermented cabbage water! She did some real harm to people that stopped taking their medicine, thinking it was a magical cure all. I think she was even on a Dr. Phil episode once too. Wild stuff!

When y’all started talking about how he was a fake Quaker on his patent medicine show it reminded me about hearing how a lot of companies used to engage in what I am going to call “Stolen Quaker Valor” because Quakers were considered good, honest businesspeople. There's an ad that plays on Spotify and every time I'm skipping through cuz I know you guys don't get paid for it I always hit one part where it says "small town dicks" and I still don't want to listen to it but just to let you know like that's been popping up. I searched my university's library for material on Fishbein, and one book is called Charlatan: America's Most Dangerous Huckster, The Man Who Pursued Him, and the Age of Flimflam So now I've got: charlatan, huckster, and flimflam The description described Fishbein as a "QUACKBUSTER extraordinaire" Quackbuster is my new favorite word. I am so happy I'm going through the quack eps😆
