Mr. Mrs Perlmania really disappointed me on his comment abour "melted clocks can only be clocks" because ir comes from a place of lack of knowledge of art history, what the surrealiat movement meant at the time and place. No doubt Dali was an A-hole, but art much like politics, has a bunch of history and studies and ppl tend to have certainties about it based in (mostly very biased) opnions

Fun tidbit about the gross VD illustrations that killed Dali’s libido: his *Dad* specifically showed him the book to scare him out of wanting to have sex, since young men his age were known to go carouse with prostitutes for their first sexual experiences, which Dali’s Dad believed was immoral. Way to go, Pops!

You mentioned Un Chien Andalou and slicing up eyeballs, and my weird ass began humming Debaser by the Pixies (which was written about that film) 🖤 Great episode! I was a big fan of Dali's art in my teens and early twenties. I blame that phase on the drugs. I still have a lot of the prints I collected then. My teen has asked me on more than one occasion what the hell was wrong with the person who painted them 😅

One of you should do an episode on Ana Mendieta and Carl Andre. They were famous artists with very different art styles who were married to each other. In 1985, Ana fell out of the window of their apartment and died. Carl was arrested for her murder and tried buy found not guilty. A good half of the art world has given him the side-eye ever since. Right after I finished this awesome episode, a headline popped up, saying that Carl Andre died this week.
