Every Warhammer 40K Faction's MUST READ Book

MERCH: https://orchideight.com/collections/poorhammer TWITCH: https://www.twitch.tv/poorhammer PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/SolelySingleton In an ideal world, this episode’s description would be something like this: “Now that Brad and Eric finished reading ALL the Warhammer books that were published by GW (and some fan-fictions), they can sit down and tell us which are the best first read for each faction in 40K. We all know that all of them are very good, and that every faction, including the non-Imperium ones, have more published than anyone could read in a lifetime, but our hosts are literate and capable of an objectively impartial opinion, so let’s tune in and take notes of a few recommendations that we will definitively read in this year. Love Adrian Tchaikovsky. Children of ruin, the second book in the "children of" series has a very good hive mind/ nid equivalent PoV character. I highly recommend the whole seriese.

Given the request for new player topics, one of the major issues I've had getting back into the game (given that the last time I played was in 3e, and even that was only a little) is parsing through what I call the '...is that good?' problem. Specifically, even knowing the new rules on how wounding rolls work w/r/t the S vs. T comparison (which are substantially cleaner than the old days, I grant!), I often find that it is hard to get a grasp on how good any given statline actually IS, since that requires a good sense of what the REST of the game looks like, which requires rather a lot of reading or general internalization overall (or a lot of setting-up of general weapons profiles on MathHammer webtools, etc.) As such, when I looked at, e.g., the stats on the two flavours of shuriken catapult infantry (Guardian Defenders vs. Dire Avengers), they were definitely higher (nearly universally so!) vs. what I remembered them to be, but given that the stats on nearly everything else had changed around them, I was left scratching my head in regards to how effective I could actually expect them to BE overall. (Hence calling it the '...is that good?' problem.) I guess the topic request - unreasonable though it might be, is 'what I might reasonably expect to get out of Guardian shuriken catapult fire (or whatever), and (potentially) how can I evaluate how that stacks up against the 'baseline' expectations for 'rank-and-file schmuck's main weapon' overall?' Obviously this is an extremely amorphous question with way too many variables to concisely answer (which is part of why it seems so daunting!) - I am really just wondering if there are useful bases of comparison or expectation that you might apply to gauge units 'at a glance. Edit: enter was supposed to be a line break, not 'post!'

Thanks for the recommendations! As a new warhammer 40K’er the lore can be overwhelming.

Infinite and the divine is good but it's so overrated, you can really feel the Matt Ward-iness of Trazyn and it's grating
