Most Lou fireside chats consecutively ever

Benedict Lelijveld

Steel is very sensible and nothing will go wrong. 100%

ZeeDodger

What a 'sode. This was, tip to tail, an incredible start to this arc and this TalkBack only makes it better. Love this show so much. Best $5 a month I've ever spent.

Benedict Lelijveld

A hoo hoo, grackle grackle, running a temperature looks like you got quest fever. Give you balls a tug Suvi. These words are art.

GC

Very very awesome!

Sanna G.

I meant to say this in earlier episodes but never got around to doing it: the Citadel and the Empire remind me of the British Empire, so I’m just waiting for the episode when Suvi discovers how the Empire has used the Kehmsarazan equivalent of opium to enslave and subjugate some distant nation. And in more current news, I very much enjoyed this episode. Particularly the gift of old saltwater taffy.

Queerly Victorian

This arc is already set up to be my favorite yet

Dead Lee

I would like to point out your brain automatically comes pre-installed with the justification machine there's a study that people saw part of a sign that said stand up and they sud up automatically and every single person when asked why they stood up came up with a different reason because the brain filled in a reason . so really steel saying this actually is falsehood and it's just to pump up suvi

Ryan L.

You guys are amazing! Such an incredible episode 🤩 So glad to catch this episode of fireside

Genna

I appreciate the insight on the fact y'all had heads up on the curve balls - and of courseee Aabria is clicking her heals with joy I don't appreciate how this hour of chats felt like 5seconds

Magerdamage

The letterkenny quotes at the end got me. Love finding out my interests overlap with these beautiful people.

WWMSudoku

COUPLE OF WITCHES COME ROUND THE NORTH POLE THE OTHERRRR DAAAAAAAAAAAAY

lil guy

Honestly I really understand Steel's logic. What I don't like is her priorities and approach. Ma'am don't do this to your daughter!! Be careful around those witches!!! Ma'am!!!! I really love it storywise though, I think it's really interesting for her character, and that whole interaction was incredible. Aabria and Brennan did an amazing job!!!

RNietzsche

The feeling of "oh shit the DM solved my character's biggest problem waaaayyyyyy too early" is very real to me.

The Spirit of Vicious Inspiration

omg, the fact that Erika & Lou didn’t know about the double-secret super nested doll of a plan that Aabria had to play out has me sooooooo amped for the rest of this arc. I mean, I was already crazy excited but this somehow adds more onto that. shenanigans

Gthetree

I’d love to know what the Atlanta situation is with Lou, and how his sea-doo restoration is progressing.

MeltedMochi

I can’t believe Lou came to the fireside!

Josh

"You don't collect interest at the bottom of the bog" incredible.

Drewbacca

"Give your balls a tug, Suverin" was not a phrase I was ever expecting to hear, but I'm 100% for it

Melody Snow

Right?? And like, *knowing* that means that we can take a closer listen every time Aabria speaks. Because *WE* know that Erika and Lou DON'T know what secret she's holding. They probably know there *is* a secret but we know what to listen for and they don't. It takes an incredible amount of player to player trust to be able to do this and not all DnD groups can. It's so exciting to watch this play out.

eve

Letterkenny reference in my fireside chat? Yes please 🙏🏻

Haepenny Works

I LOVE hearing about the different types of instruments that taylor has attributed to different schools of magic - ive been testing out the witch class with a guqin-playing bard witch and I feel validated in my choices haha

Ecceptable

Steel is a problem? Steel's not chill? Ame's "sisters" set her up to be murdered so they could get the go-ahead to murder all wizards. They've been trying to murder all wizards for decades and Ame's mother knew this and never told that to any wizard. Steel ain't paranoid enough.

Ren Dara

Thank you!! I seriously questioned myself after arc 2 for believing in Steel when re-binging the series because most of the fandom on Reddit say she’s sus af. Definitely agree that she was sus in this episode for using this dangerous situation as a way to orchestrate an infiltration into the coven. But also she’s such a badass. I get what Brennan is saying because unlike most wizards, Steel doesn’t underestimate witches— but did she become motivated after finding out about this coven while interrogating the trouble troika? At the same time, if I remember right she knows this coven is aging into extinction or at the very least knows they’re even fighting amongst themselves. So how small a threat do you need to pop off, ma!! To be fair there’s fuckery around a bill that legalized warrantless surveillance in the US so I’m triggered 😂 regardless, I could trust this choice cuz her kid & co believe this coven wants to kill Ame. So they’re at least a danger to her kid & co. So… dunnoooooo. She sent her daughter into a lions den but she sent her with a war ship full of soldiers because Suvi was going to go anyway and Steel can’t leave in the middle of war with whatever nation they’re battling I can’t remember the name 😅 Saw some theories that Steel had a hand in Soft & Stone’s deaths and 100% dubbed that theory. It’s clear she genuinely loves Suvi, loved her parents more than anything and is even somewhat misaligned with the general pompous perspective Empire folks have about witches, wild ones and other comms. I could see this dynamic getting so complicated as Suvi sees more of the impact this Empire has on others cultures (should she ever start to admire other cultures/should this Empire prove to be anything like the US in terms of orchestrating wars to justify power grabs for resources). Like yes Steel is the empire’s war hero/ head of “defense” but aside from the wild one menagerie, we don’t know their impact on the rest of the world yet… They could be Wakanda 😅 but if it’s anything like this country, then Steel is probably a monster 😭 I wanna believe she’d choose Suvi over Empire should that scenario ever come up as Suvi gets older. Maybe naive. I still see her as a potential hero unless/until seeing the empire treating its own citizens badly/committing war crimes and justifying that. Regardless I love these guys so much. These characters are amazing.

lil guy

I see what you mean! I definitely don't trust Steel or agree with her choice here, and with some parts of her worldview - but I understand her reasoning and logic. Like I understand a lot of Suvi's logic behind beliefs and choices that I don't agree with!! I think it's really cool that these characters are presented in such a way that even if you don't agree with them, you can understand them. It makes the world feel so rich and real and it's one of my favourite things about the podcast :)

The Overthinker

The Golden Compass energy was strong with this episode. Also, I was today years old when I found out Svalbard is a real place.

Anonymous Developer

There's a Whiteboard of things the PC's wanna see? Where pic Show pic Show board Give Pls

Anonymous Developer

No i changed my mind, if they've been crossing things off it's spoilers cursed knowledge, let the tome stay shut

Sean Endress

As far as final lines for the chat go... nothing surprised and delighted me more than that one

Warlock

I love these fireside posts

Elizabeth Boskey

I love listening to Aabria and Erika tease each other. I have such a friend crush on this whole team

Chip Roush

I hear the strum of the guitar, and the sound of the fire, and my whole body relaxes in pleasure. Like Pavlov's dogs, I have been conditioned. I'm not mad about it; it's just remarkable to experience. Thanks all

argylsocks

Thank you for the new grandma! (Also I almost choked on my fruit cup Aabria)

polpoulet

I wish Lou spoke more in these 😔

Joshua

We can see it after and see what was planned from the beginning the whole time.

Genna

Wait did I miss something? Is there a canon plot about how all the witches are trying to murder all wizards?? And Ame's mother knew this? Have we ever heard from Ame's mother? Or do you mean grandma Wren when you say mother?

Baauer0

"F you, Suvi. You got legs on you like redwoods. You could box-jump a bungalow."

deliriumparadox

Fox has big, my dearest Pan, energy. Pantalaimon- his dark materials

Karen Hainstock

End of the laneway, don't come up the wizard tower

Ecceptable

Yes, I was referring to Grandma Wren as Ame's mother. I thought that they revealed, when Ame returned to the cottage after the Citadel and went into the well/stream under the house, that the whole thing between Wren and Merrara was that Merrara was working with other witches to vote to destroy the Citadel and the wizards. The Stranger said something about being out to get the wizards as well, when he was talking to Ursalon.

Joel Coxhead

Unexpected Shoresy reference!

Belkira

Thanks for posting this! I meant to look it up but kept forgetting. Interesting to note that Greater Restoration could "cure" this, and that is a spell that Witches have access to.... It's a 5th level spell so Ame wouldn't have it, but I imagine the Coven of Elders has a few high level Witches knocking around in there....

Grace Coleman

I’m curious of why their is a picture of Will Smith, this comment is before I watch the episode

Morgana Evenstar

I had JUST started to conditionally trust Steel...

SmileyGuy

Nobody wants to say “…because I’m a lemming.” 😆

Bryan

Even the leprechauns are digging up peat bogs, what has the world come to

Matty Z Naps

Baklava is really making the rounds in the Brennan Lee Mulligan DnD universe recently

John Clontz

Ame didn't bring ketchup. Ame brought capital 'C' Catsup.

K C

Will the other three witches in the coven ALSO be intensely fuckable?

Trevor Fingler

As a Canadian, gotta love a Shoresy reference! Gotta set the fucking tone, boys!

Candlelighter

I think it's interesting that being found out through witchcraft is not the only fail condition for the geas. I mean, if Suvi gets knocked out for a long time, that's one way. I feel like the most plausible way might even be relationally with Ame and Ursalon - heck, someone could even just see her placing the music box.

Ecceptable

They could make me do a few things to Steel, but not hate her.

Mehmet

"Piece of mom cake" shirt please

Genna

Got it, jeez I gotta go back and listen to that convo between grandma Wren and Merrara because I absolutely do not remember what was said and at this point in the story, everything we know about witches could be important!!

The Wizard Cyan

I noticed that too! Also both latest episodes of WBN and D20 are the same length! 2hr 13m. Well both episodes that mention baklava anyway. I just remembered there's a new ep today.

The Spirit of Vicious Inspiration

it’s his character in Men In Black with a neurolizer, a device that erases people’s short-term memories (just like Suvi did with the potion)

Shawn Tienken

Please include a Shoresy reference in every fireside from now on!

kragonaught

was rly hoping to hear more on steel’s request for suvi!! would’ve been a great moment to continue to conversation on suvi’s perception of obedience as love ;__; the ultimate obedience that is being a puppet?? or, a commentary on gifts from the citadel coming with strings. suvi may be a nepo baby, but she was given some costly resources for a personal event. of COURSE the citadel is going to exploit this friendship for benefit, why wouldn’t they!!!!!!

C. A. Whyse

On one hand, that is a fantastic element to inspect. That being said, Perhaps there's little more to say about it (for now), or maybe it's something that will be given new context later. I often feel like this aftershow is too short to unpack all the “trauma” the story instigates. (Note to cast & crew-- this is not a critique. This is a parasocial obsession I've fallen into, and that is not your job to manage.)

kragonaught

you’re right, it probably is too early to fully inspect this interaction. i’m really excited to see how the situation pans out! absolutely insane that lou and erika were truly in the dark like we are

C. A. Whyse

Big mistake. Never trust a cop XD

Morgana Evenstar

I started thinking "oh this is your narcissist-southern-baptist-mom damage and you're projection." Turns out I was half right.

David Paterson

Ursalon being invited take up finding and helping other way shadowed spirits as his sister did would make for a lovely driving quest

deliriumparadox

For team snacks~☆ A baklava Haiku: Golden layers dance, Honeyed whispers on my lips, Keto dreams take flight. Once upon a time glitter dated a vegan lass with coeliac, and learned the ways of P O T A T O baklava. With ghee. That is all. Recipe upon request. 😋 as hobbits do~☆

Gabriel Aviles

This was never said? I’m very confused where this idea came from

CoolioAsh

DID YOU JUST REFERENCE SHORESY?????

Morgan Watkins

Playing catch up here. I loved this peek behind the curtain.

Doug Fancy

Oh my I had a tear. And I'm on the happy pills. Great work guys

Malcolm Pelletier

When I listened to this episode, I accidentally skipped the entire Suvi scene - so my Chapter 3 experience was completely in the dark about the Geass just like Erika and Lou!

Bizarre Little Star

I love when artists all come together and mesh perfectly for a project 😤 💚

SRodrig93

“showing up to a fully catered event with tin foil brownies” honestly i feel like Ame would love a pittsburgh wedding cookie table, which is essentially exactly that

Zephry Wright

I haven't finished listening to this episode and im so far behind in the story but Brennan!!! HOW YOU GONNA LET HIM FIND HIS SISTER AND THEN **IMMEDIATELY ** START TO KILL HER??? BAD BAD MAN!

Alex Wood

Really odd editing choice to have players leave the room and not disclose that to the audience, everyone listening knows it’s an actual play

Morgan Gano

Was that a Letterkenny reference??

Nym

Kaliah: “I’ve been here the WHOLE TIME”

Nym

Almost! They spun off Shoresy the character from Letterkenny into his own show and it’s from that :)

Morgan Gano

Nah that same phrase started from Shorsey in the Letterkenny series and then it gets cemented in the spin off

Piper

Aabria's "brrrah, brrrah" brings me so much joy

ScoutHooligan

On my like 5th re-listen and I always get so emotional during this episode and this fireside not just because it's such a touching part of the story, but it has such a sweet moment that's incredibly personal to me. When I was 4 years old, I was at my brother's Cub scouts meeting and he met his best friend to this day, and at the same time, I helped seal our families being tied together by literally being RoRo from is ep. I just got sleepy and crawled into a nice looking lady's lap and fell asleep. She just so happened to be the mother of my brother's new best friend. This scene always makes me tear up 💜💜 thank you all so much

queer one

Yeah, cause Empires are always good, their military heads always good and just, raids and surveillance and brainwashing. Steel has always been suspect and her only true loyalty lies to the Citadel—as has been stated in canon multiple times (including by Wren). Empires are inherently oppressive State systems, and it speaks to one's character and values to be the Head General for one, especially one authoritarian. As for "until seeing the empire treating its own citizens badly"... what do you call the raids? And Namor is not a citizen of course, but what about what the Empire (for there is *no way* that it was that guildwizard alone and that his actions were not noticed) did to him? Steel said she'd handle it, but how? In what ways was she not capable of at least *starting* to release Namor before she arrived? Why should we believe it's acceptable to keep someone locked up and tortured, turned into a *material resource*, for even 24 hours? As the Sword of the Citadel, she would have the authority to at least order the Derrick to be immediately shut down. Not to mention all the times that Steel has demanded answers, information, and obedience from others—including those she has no power over, such as Ame—while refusing to give any herself when asked. All Steel does is obfuscate and change the subject when asked questions that it's not clear or reasonable to believe the inquiring party (Ame, Eursalon, or Suvi) have some information about and therefore she can't lie.
