In which the gang talks about soup for one (1) hour.

[Producer's note: LOVE all the praise that the sound design has been getting, but I (Taylor) do not make the show alone! Our INDUSTRY LEADING, GLOBE STRIDING sound design should also be credited to the great Jared Olson! The sausage spinning in slow-mo effect, for example? All Jared, baby. Love that man.)

Very fitting to talk about soup for an hour after the trailer for Gastronauts came out on Dropout

Splashie Ashie

Ahoohoo crackle crackle. Plhyueym sounds like the gunk they squeeze out of a smokers' heart valves. 💜

Brandon Carbaugh

The quote Brennan was reaching for was "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends on his not understanding it."

Jake the Cake

god i LOOOOOOVED Suvi finally snapping back at Ame without the sort of proper citadel tone

vvitch

ITS NOT HIS NAME????

Ammar Khalid

“She was a DC 25” BRUTAL BRENNAN DAMN

Ryan L.

Amazing episode! Can't wait for all the Bone Cone leading up to the next Arc!

BethKF

Brilliant fireside chat. About to relisten to Arc 3 from the get go and this particular fireside feels like the smell of bacon when you’re really hungry 🤤 Can’t wait to stick it on and sit back 👌😌 Also: Really? Really?! We all - and Erika most of all - have to go forth in the knowledge of how close that roll was?! 😭😂😭 And, after EVERYTHING in Arc 1 - maybe even some stuff in Arc 2? - the Fox’s name isn’t ‘Fox?!’ What?!!! That’s as enticing as it is maddening! When it was ‘Fox’ that was great, now it’s unknown it’ll nibble away at me for however long it is between now and Brennan having the decency to put us out of our misery! Agony! Oh, if Suvi rolled high on an identify spell on the Fox could she discover his name or, at least, come closer to it?

Archon of Commoragh

Yeah. It's the practically impossible but I am giving you a chance roll.

bushpusherr

Y'all are some of my favorite people on the planet and this is absolutely a weekly highlight for me. I would really love if more of a priority was placed on having better audio quality for the firesides. It's a pretty stark contrast to something like NADDPOD, where their remote recordings sound just as good as their studio ones.

Emmmmok

Someone make that Costa mini game RIGHT.NOW.

Alex Kennedy

Erica's attempt to distract everyone by asking about birds was great

Chase Boggio

Kindom-> Plhyueym-> Class-> Order-> Family-> Genus-> Species

bluebluebutton

You're telling me another Eagle's Splendour from Suvi could have stopped the Coven going to war with the Citadel?!?

Ecceptable

I've been dropping in and out of the narrative because, although I love the world and the characters, sometimes I feel disturbed by the characters moral reactions. For example, obviously Naram, the Great Spirit, the man who saved Ursalon as a baby, his capture and torture are important to the characters. But Straw getting ripped apart by a witch is just a couple of sad remarks at dinner. No one gets emotional because she's not special enough. I so often feel frustrated by the characters being like, "The Citadel is going into the Spirit world! It's wrong and imperialist! That village that got razed to the ground and all the people who got turned into murder vines to serve Orima? Never heard of it and wouldn't care if I did." I don't know. I feel like I can't keep pace with the story as it unfolds because I keep looking back and thinking, "Didn't any of that have even emotional consequences? Why isn't anyone mentioning it? No one's more than a little sad that that happened?"

Ecceptable

I would feel so soothed playing that.

Ecceptable

I think it's Upton Sinclair? I've heard it a lot but I don't know which of his books it's from.

Cody Zimmer

I totally wasn't yelling at Luis to add a silent B at the end of that name...

Jaylon Solaris

Look I know the coven of elders has some bad people but if the witch of the waining moon as one supporter it’s me. She just wants connection and support from those who are around here but they fear her station even when she doesn’t do anything towards others. Plus she got to be a hot goth behind the mask, and is an intelligent witch who’s looking at a bigger picture. just a little green in the wisdom for the approach.

Kael McDonald

Lmao everyone wants the fox to have a name so badly! He's a fox! Don't shackle him down with human things, unless those human things are soup and risotto and trash, thank you.

Trish Shirley-Temple

Regarding the question on whether Ame could have convinced Indri, I'm convinced that her position - since she couldn't reduce the number of members - is to deprive the coven of the power of unanimity until she has her way

Cody Zimmer

Not to get too personal here, but the priest not wanting to leave the church after questioning because it's their whole community resonated with me and made me think of how I lost all of my community leaving the church. Good shit.

Amy Elizabeth Reinhart

Don’t know if our Costco in Dallas is just trying something or if it’s a nationwide change, but ours got rid of the giant muffins and now have 8 packs of regular sized muffins for $7. When we were there last week, they were blueberries and cream, lemon raspberry, pecan praline, and triple chocolate.

Erik Hanson

I now fully expect Brennan to always introduce plot twists into his games, regardless of what the players decide. Whether it's the wizards of the Citadel, the witches of the coven, or the spirits of the Spirit World - not a one of them is of a unified mind. It's perfectly set for every faction to have its flaws, which every player will have to face in-game.

Ecceptable

I think that this is a great point. I was expecting to be more a witch stan than I turned out to be, but I think your point of view on her is a great one. Also, Erika's love that she was petty enough to keep the kitty mug for decades only to smash it at the right moment was right on.

Jaylon Solaris

Absolutely like she was the youngest before amai and her sister never tried to connect with her so when she with the witch of the wind and star’s plan it was under a lie that would’ve also saw her destroyed all because she was seeking acknowledgment from someone she looked up to. I hope Erika makes the effort to bring her to her side so she actually gets the meaningful connection she has been longing for. Her station is lonely and feared because it is mysterious and she is being taken advantage of by the man in black. Though I do love his Americana western style character, reminds me of Sam Elliot in the ghost rider

One Punch Max

I disagree. They can't be hung up on everything for ever. There is so much happening and the characters are having the reactions that feel appropriate to the players in that moment. What's important to understand: The events that take place are shaping the identities and informing the actions of the PCs, but that doesn't have to show in them verbally referencing those events all the time. Straw being killed is having a huge influence on the way everyone acts and their understanding of what these witches are. And that doesn't require them constantly saying "I feel that because they killed Straw".

The_Man_Carlos

I feel like we haven't had an update on what Lou has been up to in a while, I love these guests, but Im missing him

Emily C

The description really bait and switching us. Lmao "sorry for calling back to previous arcs, that's on me" Ba-RENNAN Not the DC25 Oh man the leveraging Suvi's parents is such a clutch discussion.

Moosemade

False advertising. I'm livid.

Noam Gumerman

Fascinated by how the love forged in childhood is all that is holding our trio together right now. Feel like in a movie or book we’d cut away and come back with the gang on opposite sides of a conflict but it’s special to be in a medium where the story being told will on some level need to be our three heroes coming together to interrogate their relationships between each other and their relationships to their own pasts.

Zac Felton

It’s very clear who they want you to think are the “Bad Guys.” Even in listening to this you get that sense.

Morgana Evenstar

So deeply delighted by everything y'all are doing ❤️ These characters are so beautiful and watching them grow into people who might just save the world is exquisite. The richness and nuance of y'all's work is a great and bountiful source of joy.

Andrew Gribat

When did they talk about soup? I can't find one time stamp, let alone an hour's worth.

Aviva

Bring on the bone cone! It gives me time to revisit some WWW content. 😂

FootnoteLovenote

Such good stuff. And absolutely I felt for Mirara! Her throwing the mug was so emotional. She is the steward of the domain of isolation, of the WANING moon, of things always already ending. And she stole the mug -- we don't know why... but now I wonder if she stole something cute and silly and beloved and warmed by the comfort of that place, and wanted to keep a slice of that for herself? And Ame threw it back at her as a theft, so Mirara threw it back, but in her anger she let it break. Petty, sure; sad for Ame, yes; but also... lonely.

Michael Joseph Rosenthal

Really expected Ame to achieve unanimity by proposing a vote to put the resources of the coven towards a verifiable end to the subjugation of great spirits, and for that to maybe backfire due to the difficulty of verification

Matthew

I think the best answer is one you're going to find unsatisfying: It's just not that kind of story. If they were plotting this out as a novel there might be more of that, but as a more extemporaneous performance and as a game, that's just not the focus.

Jonathon carr

I get to this strange place where I find myself siding with Suvi more and more and wonder if this is conservative middle age creeping up on me :-)

Chris Kagamine

I was less shocked by the fact that DC 25 would have gotten Indri and Hakea, and more shocked that Indri was the lower DC of the 2 (was there are roll so bad that Indri would say yes?), and that they barely even mentioned Indri in the fireside chat. Was Indri trying to repay her debt? Does she find a use in the lenses? Is Ame more convincing than Wren in getting her to not fight the Citadel?

Carrie Mook Bridgman

It's also clear that this is not a story of Good vs Evil. This is a story of complex people in a complex world where *nobody* gets to always be the Good Guy.

Carrie Mook Bridgman

Well, drat. Ichabod said "lava cake" and I immediately wanted to get one and put actual chocolate inside rather than ice cream, and *then* microwave. I suppose I could do that will regular-sized muffins just as well.

Carrie Mook Bridgman

So Erika's only response to Ame's lie was wondering why Ame did that when "I could have said *anything* else!" Wow, even Erika has no idea why Ame did that.

Ashley Teatum

Story soup???? 😅🤷‍♀️

Hazel Sherwood

I think it’s more that her domain isn’t as effected by the war, so she saw they already weren’t going to have unanimity so she cut her losses

Jinxster99

Thank you for the muffin advice gang, you've changed my life🙏

Lael Newton

needs more soup. what's everyone's favorite soup? the players, the characters, the taylor? would talk about soup for an hour with any of you

Rachel W.

real talk: does indri have games on her phone

Mara Johansen

Every episode, I think “Oh is this the season finale?” because each episode is so freaking monumental. Props to you all

worldsbeyondnumber

No, it is all productivity apps, day trading, and Co-Star. But, Hakaea has Snake.

Alanna Grace Carroll

And then to cut off Brennan discussing Ame’s approach at length to talk about a freakin bird. I feel like he was *about* to make sense of it for them

Lou Wilson's big toe

I agree! Literally my only criticism of both the story and the fireside is that it's quite light on lou/eursulon and his character is so awesome!

Ecceptable

Max, I agree with you that they can't be hung up on everything, and part of why I like the series is the complex world, but I don't entirely think you're right. Let's put it this way. A wizard grabs Naram, rips into him, uses his blood. Steel says that she wants to respond by punishing the wizard responsible, setting Naram free, formally apologizing, and trying to repair the damage to him. (She may be lying, but that's at least what the emotional stakes of this act call for.) It's still not enough. Bunch of wizards die to free Naram immediately. A witch grabs Straw, rips her apart, consumes her blood. No apology. No punishment. No trying to make things up to her friends, family, or the Citadel. And the characters don't even seem to expect or want one. She was just a wizard. He was a great spirit. It's like, for the characters, the wizards are ants compared to witches and great spirits. You don't like someone who crushes ants for fun, but you don't punish them or attack them or expect them to apologize to the ants.

Ecceptable

Zak, I do get that sense. The Citadel is Bad, and wizards are Bad (except a few good ones). So we don't have to feel any moral horror or demand justice when a witch kills and consumes the blood of a wizard the way we do when a wizard traps and consumes the blood of a spirit. We should feel horror and anger and there are fights among the characters when the wizards have a gallery of trapped spirits, but no one is that bothered by a witch with a corpse statuary. That's just atmosphere.

Beau R.

AWW I HEARD WIZARD SUNNY! I hope they are doing well :)

2026-09-08 21:00 Fun fact: In Finnish, the aurora borealis is called "revontulet," which literally translates to "fox's fire." I don't know how you can fit this into your world building here but there's some kinda something about oh the stars see all in the aurora at the north pole, and also the fox sees all cuz he's a sneaky li'l guy

If you’re reading this comment, it means you’re by the fire side. Hey bud, right on

KSolstice

I dont understand why people complain about the quality of mics when we can clearly hear everyone. I guess others are just more sensitive to that stuff, but it always comes off so up tight and snobbish 🤣 I just had to comment to say I love the quality we get, I dont mind being able to tell someone is on zoom or a different mic. Gives a more raw talk back feel to me personally. More casual and laid back. Plus I love how it shows the players dedication to getting together to discuss the show.

mguin

on this planet, at this time, talking about soup for an hour sounds like the exact thing. I think I've finally pieced together what the ending music from the fireside evokes for me: some of the mini-game music from Spiritfarer. In the best, bittersweetest way.

Genna

Crackle crackle friend 🔥✨

bushpusherr

"Uptight and snobbish" isn't remotely how I would have described the tone of my comment—I'm not asking them to release their episodes on vinyl, but if that's how you want to read the mildest of criticism then alright I guess lmao. The gain on Aabria's mic is fully blown out in this episode and it made it difficult for me to listen to is all.

Tijay Arnie

Brennan stated that they only blew up one planet and never brought it up again, when in fact they blew up 5 more planets and never brought it up again, again

Katlynn

That DC 25 is going to hurt even more as things play out.

bails 🌀 witch of the what the fuck

i’m too tired to elaborate on this thought very articulately, but y’all it makes so much sense that Ame’s reactions to things at WitchCon are so subdued. she is overwhelmed because she was deeply underprepared by Grandma Wren. i would also have a healthy respect for what witches consider acceptable when they hold court — see: Gramore straight up murdering a wizard with zero repercussions — and then promptly have a trauma response and dissociate for a week once i was a safe enough distance from the coven. hell, just knowing about retributive curses is enough to make me smile and nod alongside someone who makes my skin crawl. Ame is doing her utmost to fly under the radar while still politely voicing her opinions around her sisters in a way that manages not to step on their witchy toes. and considering how underprepared she was, i think she’s doing a pretty swell job of it. that’s why Erika doesn’t know why Ame is making the choices she is… Ame doesn’t know either. because Ame is terrified. witches are SCARY. plus, think about the difference in upbringing/training between Ame and Suvi. Ame was taught broad concepts of her station and what it represents, and vague opinions of her sisters in the coven through the lens of a woman who spent a lifetime being a mediator. Suvi was taught the intricacies and particulars of magic, consequences and detailed rules, who to report to and when. Ame’s not good at the things that would have made her more effective in this meeting because she never learned how. i wish she had recognized those strengths in Suvi and leaned on her friend for help 😔 anywayzzzz so excited/anxious for next week 🫡🩵

Charlie

The idea of "it's a DC25 to stop a war" got me thinking that maybe World War 1 was actually started when Gavrilo Princip rolled a nat 20 on a perception check & clocked the Archduke Franz Ferdinand through a window. These story rolls matter. I actually love that it was possible & didn't happen.

Stevie

Oh fireside chat. Carry me through these times of strife (washing dishes)

Extragarb

I think in retrospect, Indri and her domain really does align unexpectedly well with the concepts of wizardry, more than any other station in the coven. Beyond any debt Indri may be paying to Ame or any coven political gain she gets from betting on the underdog Ame (or any disdain she may personally have for Mirara or the Man in Black), I feel like all the similarities and appeal Suvi spots in Indri's palace, life style, and domain go both ways. Indri has a giant star library sanctum and is highly meticulously put together, and that sounds a flavor that overlaps well with the citadel. Indri may not be jazzed about the interpersonal structure of the citadel's hierarchy, but she probably aligns well with wizardry as a pure pursuit of magical understanding and exploration.

Extragarb

Yeah, i feel like Ame missed a chance to genuinely reach out to Mirara (since Mirara was definitely genuinely reaching out to her). Sure Ame was probably never going to sign up for team Stranger, but I feel like she could have been warmer to Mirara's greatest attempt to reach out. Mirara made valid points about being a *good* witch of a very uncelebrated domain, and even some reasonable complaints about how Wren navigated elements of her station. I get that Mirara had conspired to "solve the World Heart unanimity" problem by killing Ame and the station, but it feels within Ame's duty to understand the reasons why Mirara felt that was her only choice. And I bet Mirara wouldve returned that mug intact if Ame conceded any meaningful ground to her as a sign of respect for her station (even though Mirara's station fully backs up taking the mug originally and destroying it after the failed conversation). With everything about Ame realizing there's a real human under that mask, it feels like a missed opportunity to extend some kind of a hand towards Mirara (in a moment when Mirara was doing her very best to meet Ame in the middle)

Extragarb

I really like the DC 25 decision for Hakea's vote. Its so cool to have an option where the world lets the Man in Black have to figure it out with just Mirara and the resources he currently has, sans Witches. Also its a good thing Ame cracked a 15 (im guessing), because winning Indri means that the crew doesnt have to navigate the war in constant fear of Indri's omni present star security cams that cover literally everywhere that's night time and outside in the whole world 24/7. It also means, Ame might be able to leverage some kind of help from Indri, depending on why she voted no. Indri's resources are vast, and she's also the only known link to the Antivalist wizards (besides Tefmet)

Wren

A souper great discussion!

Mari and James Holt

After listening to the fireside, I just realized how insane it is that The Witness was my husband’s first contact with WBN. I usually listen on my commute, but this one played on the background while we were comfort gaming. Wild ride trying to explain what was happening and why lol

The Wizard Seek

The idea that Suvi recieved practical methodical training and Ame recieved abstract conceptual guidance with Grandmother Wren is very interesting. I'm also not going to say this very articulately, that said, it feels like Ame was raised with the intention to always make big choices, but like zero scaffolding to get her there. Meanwhile Suvi was given all the steps for big problems, and the knowledge of magic, but very discouraged from making any of her own choices with that knowledge (save for, of course, ye olden justification machine citadel conditioning). Suvi was given a methodical, detailed, consequence-heavy approach to life that made a little girl like the one we met in the prologue, who desired guidance and above all knowledge, into a young adult that can only be self-assured when following the orders and ethos of the Citadel (which im sure was exactly the plan). Meanwhile Ame has been carefully wound up a trellis like a vining plant, a structure of kindness and conflict resolution always beneath her that she is trying very hard to take the shape of- encouragement and guidance given in plenty, but very little actual step by step instruction on the big stuff. No direct orders, we run on vibes only with the witches, and bless ame but she didn't unlock the social weapon kind of neurodivergent and/or trauma skill tree the way Suvi did. Also. Your comments always make me think and I love it. ✨️

yimyams

havent listened yet, here again as a Team Suvi member cuz why were her friends on her like that. like thinking about that breakdown scene is insane. there her true friends are yelling at her to let go of her home without giving her good, verifiable reason to do so directly after comforting her in a moment of crisis. rubbed me the wrong way.

yimyams

my actual real emotions while listening to this is a testament to the quality of the show as a whole, i love every second

yimyams

i dont think Suvi had enough time to process what all she had just learned meant and, despite what she just learned, the Citadel is still her home and all she has ever known. one shady thing and a panic attack wouldnt be enough to just fully shake that faith. on top of that Ame and Eursolon came in with unsubstantiated evidence and all Suvi did to "defend" the Citadel was maybe dont destroy the whole thing and that they dont have proof of this anti-Citadel mage's claims. i think it tracks pretty well

yimyams

Ame gave me more whiplash tbh

Brandon Rilling

Brennans point on you know when you have a good story when u can just stay, i had that first time recently! And it was so awesome! I love this game aaaaah!

argylsocks

I think this is the third time I've heard Brennan get caught deep in the thralls of the quest for knowledge on something he was curious about 5 seconds ago

Ashley Teatum

I'm pretty sure you just named the fox 🤌🦊 "Rev"?

Ecceptable

If Eursulon were to walk back to Suvi and Ame at Port Talon covered in Naram's blood and saying he was killed by wizards, do you think they would have the same reaction? Even Steel (who could be lying) showed that trapping a spirit was a matter for justice and apology from the Citadel even though Morrow wasn't a Citadel wizard. And you're right that in a planned narrative some characters are just there to demonstrate a function of the world, but in this free-form narrative where the characters can choose to focus on anything, they have clearly shown that they will seek no justice and make no waves when it comes to certain kinds of violent death. I don't know. It's a story that is intensely focused on moral choices and this consistent blindness gives me the ick in a big way. That being said I do love dropping in every couple of months on the Patreon to talk about it, so thank you very much for chatting! I've read some of your other comments and like them. (I too would love a little breather after this arc to see the friends hash it all out but I think we're going to get something different.)

The Wizard Sentiment

I have a question : Aabria performance was incredible. I just can’t stop to admire the actor’s craft and her dedication to the story. I know that you are all friend and feel comfortable with each other, When you play such a big emotional scene, do you have to debrief afterwards or are you all so genuinely comfortable that you don’t feel there is a need to adresse the out of body experience that might be playing a character that feel so hurt and in pain ?

Carrie Mook Bridgman

I can't reply for this table, but I have heard some of them talk about this before. Sounds like it depends. After sessions of Crown of Candy (Dimension 20), there was some debriefing and checking in on each other. Other times they have been able to "turn off" their characters and be OK, but Erika in particular said that was because of the deep trust and friendship at the table.

Queerspice

I would LOVE just those snippets of unedited scenes where Aabria sobbing while doing the scene.

The Wizard Sentiment

I did wrote before listening this episode and hearing about Aabria telling about her sobbing and thinking she might need to walk a bit after. ( all in good company) I guess this one was a particularly singular, powerful experience ! But I do remember yes! They did say that about checking. Before this fireside episode I though it was something they prepared but turn out it was just great actors and storytellers that just saw the perfect opportunity and let their characters drive! Truly, humans are wonderful!

Morgan Belcher

what a gift to have a podcast where you’re just as excited for the bone cone in between the seasons as you are for the seasons!!!!

Carrie Mook Bridgman

Question: were they actually in the same place, and if so, why not in the same room?

Carrie Mook Bridgman

Also, Aabria says this was the reveal for Erika and Lou about the box. So they didn't hear the library scene either? Or when Suvi did identify on the music box and saw how it was made? I know the characters weren't there for those scenes, but I thought the players were.

Liz

There’s a chance there might be some recourse regarding Straw if the players make it back to the Citadel. They’ve only been at the Conclave for, like, two days. It’s possible that the other wizards on Suvi’s ship have sent word back to the Citadel about what happened and we’ll find out more about the consequences later.

Sheila-la-la-la

Correct me if I'm wrong: Out of all three, Suvi is the only one who grew up with siblings and she fights like it.

updownbanana

Thank you so much Brennan for proving me right in this dumb argument I got into with my friend in a bar

The Wizard Slut

We still haven’t gotten fattest ass of season 3 I personally think Gramore has the lead on everyone but Induri is tall but she is petite. Maybe Heinrule or The tree spirit could be baking but I NEED THIS ANSWERED

The Wizard Slut

Also the witch week art shows mirara is massive but I dunno if she got the bakery

Sean Boyce

Oh my god. Listening to Brennan talk about the fight at 28:00 minutes, I realized why it felt so damn real: it's as the Wizard Song, Steven Sondheim, said: Old Friends. It's Merrily We Roll Along. It's Charley losing it on NBC. It's Mary losing it at Frank during the opening party. It's all the stuff you don't say.

DaphneDawn

Taking bets on what freaky beast form Mirara took in the dungeon with Ame. Giant crawled serpent?? Centipede centaur?????

Schwa

Correct me if I'm wrong. The cast records the arc during camp, then records Fireside after listening to the final cut that we all hear, reacting within the zeitgeist we all share. That thought occurs to me upon every listen of these chats. And they never tease. Not one mention of what is coming down the pike. Class act, cast.

The Wizard Strike

Because of echo. It makes sense to record in different rooms

Sean Case

“Fun adventures in social anxiety” - yes please!!

Emma41420

Maybe it's a reach because this podcast is on my mind 24/7, but I've been listening to JADE's "Angel Of My Dreams" (SlowAngelicDramatic Live Version) and am so reminded of Suvi's post-Identify sprial. The staging and arrangement of this performance compared to the original track has a frenetic somewhat dissociative pacing, similar to what the cast mentioned feeling during Brennan's Identify monologue. Jade has described this track as encapsulating the complex relationship artists have with the music industry, and the ways that dynamic can bend what feels real/unreal or true/false for both oneself + collaborators + the audience. Of course my mind draws lines between this interpretation and Wizardry in Umora☆~ A few lyrics sound even nearly verbatim Suvi: 'I will always love you and hate you, it's not fair. / It's so bittersweet. / I will always want you and need you, you don't care. / Love when you call me a star. / You let me down in the dark. ... They say I'm so lucky. / Better act like you're lucky, honey. ... I'm in heaven when you're lookin' at me.' Are there any other songs listeners by the Fireside have connected to recent character developments?

Emma41420

sorry btw, I don't think external links are allowed in the comments ♡ It is available via YouTube tho!

Emma41420

I love this interpretation and felt similarly!! That kitty cat mug absolutely haunts me. It made my heart ache for Mirara emphatically insisting to Ame, "I Am Not A Bad Witch," only to be (from her perspective) further rejected and alienated. The Coven of Elders is ultimately a Sisterhood, and there was something in Mirara's pained desperation to reach Ame that reminded me of an elder sibling at her wit's end. As if she had imagined a world in which Wren's successor could instead be beside her at the Conclave rather than opposed, but the outcome shattered that possiblity. 💔

Razzy Razz

I am two minutes in, and Brennan has mentioned the Help! movie and I don’t even know how to express how much joy this brings me.

Autumnis_Prime

i just wanted to say i love your username so much

The Wizard Seek

One of my favorite Suvi songs of all time is, "The King's Affirmation" by Iniko. It spells out her status, determination and hubris in one go- making this turn of instability hit even harder. I'll have to look for one for her in this arc, but this one in particular GOT ME for Suvi! I also love your choice a BUNCH and it's going on my fan Playlist!

The Wizard Seek

They did see that scene, I believe! But didn't know about the quest of the box, they thought Aabria was just as surprised to find out what the heck it did. I may be wrong, but this was my understanding :3

DaddyDepresso

i caught i think in the last couple Aabria mentions the identify before it happens

Emma41420

Absolutely LOVE Iniko, their work is so celestial and expansive-- a perfect vibe match for Sky 🌟💖🌌 !! Yeah for me, "The King's Affirmation" brings to mind the energy she carried through her Name-Cloaking Ceremony.

Samuel Gray

Hello friends I have a question - why is Hecate mad that the pilgrim under stars has infiltrated her retinue but then votes to join forces with him?

Carrie Mook Bridgman

Consent. One she agreed to, the other she did not. I agree that I'm a little surprised at her change of mind, but maybe Tefmet did it.

The Wizard Seek

I envision it there, too! Each of the wizards' comments intercut with visuals of the journey so far... I love it! I need to work on my storyboards for this 😭

Nathan Gold

Question for the next one - where did the members of the Covenant of Elders and their retinues stay when Wren hosted the Conclave? I'm imagining a small side door on the chicken coop suddenly appearing, leading to rustic (but palatial) lodgings that still smell faintly of farmyard...?

Magnolia Eve

I always think about the fox's entire reason for joining the gang was for some chicken. Me too pal

Scordo

I would agree that gramore probably has a great butt, but I would assume it's like, muscle butt, if we're talking pure size, I think hokkaia probably has one of those old lady asses where it's just MASSIVE.

Esther Bee

Thanks for having me by the fireside, especially as I am on hour 9 of a 15 hour flight, I do feel so warmed by the crackle crackles

Dolphin

I think this was said in this episode, but are we done with the arc and on break? Or is one coming this week?

Raquel Albert

I remember they saying that the next episode would be the last, so I think there should be one more today still. Last time the ep went up a little late so I'm guessing it will happen again this week, which just means Taylor is making super special for us to have so many feelings about it

warming my little tootsies by the fireside waiting patiently for the chapter 3 finale

Brennan: It's so funny, in another world where Ame is a Machiavellian strategist she could have played it like "Oh! Yes we all hate the citadel but..." Erika: Brennan! OMG there was a birb, and he had a little birb name, you love birbs Brennan, RIGHT? Haha funny lil guy, you must have been so happy to have a birb in this Entirely Different Scene??

As Brendan said, dc was 25. We'll see what he'll say about it later

Wild to know it was 7 away from preventing a world war 😂

Okay I’m working my way through the last few episodes of this arc and tbh one thing that stands out to me is that I’m so mad by how BLIND AND NAIVE Suvi is about the Citadel. Like girl GET IT TOGETHER. It’s an INSTITUTION serving an EMPIRE 😭😭😭😭😭😭

bails 🌀 witch of the what the fuck

**SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN’T FINISHED THIS ARC YET** @Agiddysea could not agree more!! i’m relieved after the arc finale it seems like that’s what we’ll be getting because truly our trio knows SO LITTLE 😫 with Suvi’s covert mission to analyze Citadel movements/get insider baseball intel to form her own conclusions is going to be paramount to keeping the group making strategic, logical decisions (less anxiety-inducing Quest Fever lmao) AND Eursulon “teaming up” with the Antivolist in a way that feels satisfying because the trio doesn’t have to sacrifice any power/agency as opposed to forming a more concrete alliance. i LOVED Suvi’s point she made to Eursulon about Captain Emliss and the Antivolist possibly burying the lead in regard to how little information the witches actually have… and yet they’re more than willing to start a war because of their own impatience and centuries-long grudges 🙃 witches amirite

@Benny Bee EXACTLY!! the way you phrased this is exactly right re: Ame’s lack of scaffolding vs. Suvi’s lack of agency 😗👌🏻 also in regard to your comment about Suvi following orders, i have a whole new tangent i need to go on about her trauma and how it has informed ALL OF HER DECISIONS but i’ll *Brennan voice* Get In The Comments on the newer ep 😌 and omg i’m laughing SO HARD at “the social weapon kind of neurodivergent and/or trauma skill tree” because i have never been so indirectly, throughly, and hilariously called out. it is PRECISELY a trauma skill tree 💀 both Suvi and i put too many points into “never mess up and you won’t have to deal with the debilitating shame of failure and letting someone down” 😀 love that for us p.s. tysm 🥰 i love coming on here and chatting with y’all because everyone has a unique and cool insight/perspective!! 🩵

Emily C

I hear you, but she's like 20, and she's been raised in the citadel her entire life. This entire adventure has been like less than a year of her outside of her upbringing lol

Adrianna Veloz

I had literal chills during the ep when Souvie was identifying herself.

Shey

Exhausted Suvi is my favoriteeee

Ryan Leeson

You are all so incredible.

icesquirrel

I thought the wizard dropping rubies was suvi’s dad😅

Logan Rannow

Brennen's incredible storytelling never ceases to surprise me. planning a hidden, substantially heavier vote behind the already pressing one our heroes come to the summit concerned with is just artfully done.

Trey Lord

As someone who has been in a cult, it's hard to know you're in the cult until you've gotten out of it. Aabria talks about the justification machine that goes on in Suvi's mind, it's literally behavior programming.

BexNeko

On my second listen through. I know that the Ame and Suvi fight was good drama and acting, but I can’t help but feel like it’s unrealistic to expect that they remain good friends after a bust up like that while Suvi is having a panic attack. Kind of wish there had been some rolls in there to check insight

BexNeko

It was well played but I was so enjoying where Brennan was going

Drew Faber

If we’re your patrons are y’all our warlocks? I have some quests for you if that’s the case. Don’t worry, u can take as many short rests as u want <3

Ryan

Love Erika but that was fucking bizarre lmao

Lulu

Im on my first re-listen and I wanted to pop back over hear to comment on how unbelievably cool the music is! I could listen to the Coven of Elders theme 24/7! Magic is real and it exists in that music❤️

What's funny is I think Alderaan's population was in the low hundreds of millions. In a society that nominally included *millions* of *planets*. So like, statistically no one else in the galaxy was closely related to anyone that died. But Alderaan *was* a founding planet in the Republic with popular leaders that were well known for speaking out against the Emperor. So in expanded canon, destroying Alderaan was actually huge politically and may have eventually doomed the Empire on its own. But Leia never so much as acknowledges her planet in the movies after that one scene.

Weakly asking for help at the end is so fucken funny

Why does the fox need a name? He's not human, why must human norms be shackled upon him?
