END OF MARCH // Progress Report (Patreon)
Content
Hello everybody! Sorry about the delay on this post :P I was a bit fatigued yesterday, and was just packing the last of my shop orders today.
Thank you SO much everybody for continuing to support me and Gloamingvale through this Patreon page! It's super appreciated, and you are a huge help. Welcome to everybody who joined recently ~
I'll keep this brief! I've made a decent amount of progress in March, even though a large chunk of the month was taken up by book-keeping, doing taxes, and dealing with some difficult things that came out of nowhere. The biggest accomplishments for this month were:
- I finally did a stylized screenshot study, and will continue to do more of those; it helped me narrow down some important workflow details for the digital comic page approach
- I started to re-work the Gloamingvale prologue thumbnails/layouts. They're quite detailed, and I just have a couple of more pages, so it is almost complete!
- Decided to execute the prologue traditionally (I will at least make an honest attempt)
Tbh I wanted to say "I FINISHED THE PROLOGUE LAYOUTS" in this update, but alas I am actually a little bit stuck at the moment. I spent 3-4 hours already trying to conclude it, but hopefully the next session will actually be fruitful. The process of doing thumbnails/layouts can be really tough, sometimes I will draw several versions of a page or a single panel, only to delete all of them and be left with nothing but a fuzzy and exhausted brain by the end of a session... but thankfully, most of it is in fact re-worked now.
The length of the prologue expanded a bit as well; I went from 12 pages in the first attempt, to probably around 18-20 pages for this one, so it's quite a bit longer, but I think the pacing is much better this time.
My plans for April:
It's my birthday on the 7th! Super excited to see some friends :P Unfortunately, things will get super hectic after that. I have to make 3 youtube videos this month, and also pack to be prepared for the move during the first weekend of May. SUPER excited to have an actual room dedicated to my studio though, it's been a long time coming!
My planned tasks for Gloamingvale for April:
- complete the prologue thumbnails/layouts
- revisit chapter 1 script and detect all missing character designs and locations, collect references and do the missing visdev (as much as possible)
- complete chapter 1 thumbnails/layouts by the end of the month
- Roughs/ideas for 1-2 promo illustrations
I'm trying to keep my expectations for this month reasonable since I do have to move quite soon and the packing is very daunting... but I hope this task list is doable! I am also going to keep my shop closed for now until I'm all settled in the new studio. I decided that I will keep my work digital until after I move to the house, it's way too chaotic in my living space right now and that really messes with my ability to relax and do traditional art, unfortunately. It would be good to get ahead on the layouts/thumbnails anyhow.
Assessing the progress from my March goals (in the previous end of month update), I did not do too badly! I did get most of those things done despite the chaotic happenings. I tried to keep this brief, but here we are... an essay in the making.
Thank you guys again, so SO much, for supporting me and this project!! You all know how important this is to me, so I can't even express how amazing it has been to finally be making so much progress.
I hope you guys have a wonderful week ~
Love
Cos
