Hello, dear Patrons!  I wanted to let you know that I am going to be teaching Beginner Level 1 and Beginner Level 2 lessons in Ancient Greek, and I want to give you first dibs to sign up.

Beginner Level 1

IF YOU HAVE NEVER TAKEN ANCIENT GREEK BEFORE

then you can sign up for a 5-week, 10-lesson intro course via Zoom where I teach you to read basic Ancient Greek (preparatory for either Classical Attic or Koine literature) during the months of November of December.

The dates and times for these lessons will be:

Wednesdays & Fridays, 9am PT / 12pm ET / 6pm CET (90 min per lesson)

Nov 13 ···· Nov 15

Nov 20 ···· Nov 22

Dec 4 ···· Dec 6

Dec 11 ···· Dec 13

Dec 18 ···· Dec 20

The price of the course will be $150, but it gets better because you are Patrons!  Whatever you already contribute monthly will be subtracted from the total due; for example, if you are a Maecēnātiānī Tier patron ($10 a month), the course for you will discounted to $140; if you are a Theodōrēī Tier Patron ($20 monthly) then for you the course will only be $130; etc.

While attendance is encouraged, it is not mandatory; that is, if you can only attend some but not all the lessons due to unforseen scheduling conflicts, worry not!  I will assist you by email to catch up on what you missed.

During the course, we will read a beginner Ancient Greek reader, and I will engage you in spoken Ancient Greek and help you to respond and begin to speak in Ancient Greek.  This technique has been demonstrated to accelerate achieving the goal of reading fluency.

If you would like to sign up, please email me at scorpiomartianus@gmail.com today!

Beginner Level 2

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY STARTED LEARNING ANCIENT GREEK BUT ARE STILL A BEGINNER

then please let me know if you would be interested in a Greek 102 course taught by me.  The time slot for this course will be at 12pm-1:30pm US Eastern Time / 6pm-7:30pm Central European Time every Wednesday starting in January for 14 weeks (14 total lessons).  For now, all you have to do is write below that you would be interested in Greek 102, and more information will follow by direct message through Patreon.

If you have any questions, write below.

Sam Michael

Hiya, been self-taught but trying to read consistently and improve, trying to follow along with ephesiaca and interested in further study

Νὴ Ἀπόλλω, σοί γ’ οὐ χρὴ ταῦτα διδάγματα, ἤδη μόνος προσκόπτων κάλλιστα ἔγνωκας τὴν Ἑλληνικὴν γλῶτταν!

Jeff Rensch

Totally interested, Luke, but I am at the intermediate level. Perhaps soon....

Pascaline Daniel

Hello, That's a great opportunity and I would definitely be interested in Greek 102 !

David Lauer

Luke, I am very interested in Greek 102. Thank you.

Peter Gallagher

Would like to participate in a Level 2, but the time is a problem (3-4:30 am Australian time). Maybe a recorded version? Also: strong vote for "Reading Greek" taught in Latin. My favourite of your many offers in Ancient Greek. Best, P

Salve Lucii! Volo linguam graecam 102 te magirstro discere nescio autem si possim adesse quia discipulus in universitate sum neque sessiones novas anno novo adhuc legi. Quam tarde possum tibi dicere si liber sim?

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Yes, if you're intermediate, neither course would be appropriate, I'm afraid. But good for you!

Jenny

I would do 101 but it looks like it converts to 3 am here.

Kerney Rhoden

Hi Luke, I'm interested in taking a course but I don't know which one. I studied Mastronarde on my own for about 6 months which went OK until I hit the participles and Aorist Passive and realized I needed to know all 6 prinicipal verb parts and that was a wall that, with other things in my life, halted me. I also have some Latin and finished an intermediate university course as an alumni and retired employee. Both the little Greek I've learned as well as the Latin are very rusty. At my age I'm something of a slow learner lol! What's your recommendation?

chungus

I would love to participate in a 102 course but the time works out to 3am in Australia. I see I'm not the only one with this problem; hopefully there are enough of us to make it worth having an alternative time? I'd stay up for midnight lessons or get up for 7am ones.

Josiah Roper

I soo so wish I could take from you as I have been self taught so far and am using Lucian pronunciation. Sadly I just can’t take an hour and half outside of the middle of the work day. I hope this goes very well and that you are able to do it again in the future!

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Thanks, Josiah! Hopefully there will be a course at a better time for you in the future.

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Hi Kerney! You may benefit best from the Beginner Ancient Greek Level 1. Email me and we can discuss various options.

Bob Nardo

Hello, my son is interested in your beginner level 2 course. He has studied a substantial portion of Athenaze with another teacher, but has loved all of your LLPSI instruction over the years and would like to further develop his beginner Greek with your course if possible.

Pilte Evelyne

I studied with Athenaze Italian now at thé beginning of book 2 capitulum XVIII , I can speak just a little. Do you think level 102 is interesting for me to be more confident ?

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Whether he takes my class or not, please tell him I'm very glad he has found the materials so useful, and I wish him all the best.

Bob Nardo

Got it. I recently connected with Ryan at ALI after listening to their podcast. I will contact them about signing my son Joseph up for your section.

tracy bessire

I am interested in taking both courses.

Ryan White

I am late responding, but I would be interested in the Greek 102 course!

Shaun Dent

Hi Luke, I'm interested in both, I've sent you an email!

immoderately.foxed

I, too, would attend 101 with delight and relief, but….. This is in the middle of one library day (It’s you or 15C Chaucer, unless Michelangelo’s or Titian’s sketches are on offer, and my world ends in 1613.) and one teaching-artist day working with my favorite co-teacher and children with disabilities. If ever you plan this at different hours, I’ll register so swiftly, my hand will spark a sonic boom. Have fun with the classes! Your students surely will.

Karis Grace Riley

I’m keen for the Greek 102! I went through Athenaze years ago but I am re reading it in the Italian edition using your Lucian pronunciation in order to “think Hellenically”. I want more speaking practice to become a faster reader and sight-reader. Is this the right course for me? And do I sign up with ALI but still receive the discounted price as a Patreon supporter?

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Χαῖρ’, ὦ Χάρι! I am teaching Section G102-F at Ancient Language Institute starting in January (the last one on this list): https://ancientlanguage.com/beginner-ancient-greek-ii/ This should be the right course for you! ALI doesn't offer a discount, but you can try it for a couple weeks to see if it is the right course, and if it's not you can withdraw and get your money back. I hope to see you there!

Erik Dolson

I’d be interested in Greek 102!

Erik Dolson

Oh great I was looking into that as well! I’m not sure if I’ll do the G102 or the intermediate level, but looking forward to it either way!

James Christopher

Are there Greek textbooks we should buy for the course ??

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Nope! No need to buy any books, all the necessary materials will be provided. If you’d like to sign up email me at ScorpioMartianus@gmail.com — I look forward to having you in class!

David Griffin

Hey Luke! Is there any chance you'll be offering these courses again? Thanks for all your work!!

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Hi David! Absolutely; I’ll be offering both again starting in July. Are you interested in the Beginner Ancient Greek or the Conversational Ancient Greek?

David Griffin

Wow! Thanks for responding so quickly! Well, I'm not sure which I should be interested in. I have studied both Latin and Greek. Completed an MA in 2005 in the Classics. I've taught Latin courses and I currently teach a Koine (New Testament) Greek course online, but most of my experience is grammar/translation. I am really interested in the prospect of speaking the language.

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Hi David! I got your email too, and I replied to you there. I think you would enjoy the Conversational Ancient Greek course. The next 10-week course will begin in July.

David Griffin

Oh! If I had seen your message earlier I would have joined. Sorry I missed it. Thanks for the invite!
